Here's my general experience in using the eurail pass on trains - Germany, Netherlands, Czech = Eurail friendly (can show up on day and no mandatory reservations) - Spain, Italy = Not bad (Mandatory reservations but doesn't cost much and can be reserved on the day) - France (or any trains to/from france)= Crappy (Not only mandatory reseravtions, but a limited quota for eurail passes on high speed rail there)
Hi! So I was wondering, how do the reservations work exactly? Like how do you pay for them if it's one of the trains (and you're taking 3 or 4 other ones)?
Hi! Did you have any trouble when you did your reservations one day before departure? I was wondering about international trains in Spain, France or Italy for example. Also, is it common for trains to be full in those countries? I'm aware of the fact that we must pay a reservation fee, but I'm concerned about doing so in the ticket stand at the station. Paying through the eurail online service sounds like a scam. They add 8 euros to the reservation fee! I hope you can help me because I'm kind of lost with all the weird info they provide on the website. Hope you are ok
I'm basque, from Donosti (Spanish side), and what surprised me the most was your "euskaraz bizi nahi dut" t-shirt :P I'm glad you liked the basque country...welcome!
You guys are very personable and well spoken in the delivery of your information. I learned a lot of very useful info and will come back again and again. Thanks guys.. keep up the fun tours... Your friend.. The Sass
I did a eurotrip 1 year ago with interrail pass (i'm european) in the spring. I have to say that I traveled across the Alps and it was the most beautiful place i've ever seen! Also a good way to save money is couchsurfing. In Europe couchsurfing is very good way to meet the locals and get to know the culture there. Nice tips guys!
Thanks for answering these questions guys - really considering getting one now sounds like not just a cheaper way to get around but also less stress than flying everywhere.
OMG! I am ordering my 2 months for 21 days Global Pass tonight. I am heading to Ireland on June 28th and will travel through Europe and end my trip in Morocco. I am heading home on Sept. 4th!
Loved this video!! My husband and I are moving to Germany in the next 18 to 24 months and we have been trying to figure out the trains and our options once we get there. This cleared up a lot. Thank you so much for sharing all your wisdom.
Muchas gracias por la información! Este junio mi hija de 13 años y yo 32 iremos a España y Italia. Tomare en cuenta todos tus vídeos ! Saludos desde USA 🇺🇸🎄
Hope you guys had fun here :) But yeah Eurorail/Interrail is fast and easy way to go on tour in Europe and as said Its flexible and great for long distance. In Scandinavia and Swiss trains its often good for short trips as well. If you only doing one country, there some times are better offers or standart tickets are better (You can get from one end to the other in Hungary and other former east-european countries for less than 30$, often even less than 20$). You can travel trough all of Germany for 40€/45$ a day, if you are 2ppl for 50$ or 3ppl 60$ on regional trains. If you are 2 people for 29€/34$ in austria. Traintickets normally can be baught 3 month in advance in Europe, booking well in advance makes tickets often cheaper, but you are not flexible. Well and since its Europe and only 2 countries have english as first language, especially in the countryside ticket offices dont speak english. This making Eurrail better if you are first time in Europe and want to see 7 capitals in one week. Best tipp to stay cheap is through couchsurfer and if you eat between 12-3pm, many countries have lunch deals, then you can eat lighter in the evening
This reminded me of my first EuRail Trip 49 years back in 1973 October (18 th. October 1973)!. It was First Class Unlimited Travel Pass for 1 month and I had paid $ 150 ! (I was 23 Years old then) And again I had travelled by EuRail back in 1994 October for 1 month. I had paid $ 630 for unlimited travel in First Class ! (I was 46 Years old then & traveled with my wife) I have preserved All my Color Photo Memories of both my EuRail Trips) I have still preserved those passes !
Hey Vaga Bros! Just getting ready for my first rail trip Europe, and I'm beyond stoked! With the regional trains, is there anything you need to do at the station before boarding a train? or did you literally find the train that is going to your destination, and hop right on?
What most people don't realize, is that if you buy a regular unrestricted fare from say Warsaw to Lisbon, you can stop anywhere en route, and spread the travel out across several weeks -- amazing how much you can see on just one ticket...
Right on guys, good solid info. So how exactly do you get hooked up with that free Eurail pass anyway? I need to get clued into that sorta stuff so that I can start getting some more travel perks. I'm in "time to maybe think about a jobby job or else get creative" mode.
We have always done self guided/self drive trips in Europe. Now we're older - this video was a big help. Want to know more. What is a day? How many offs and ons in a day?
Great video guys. I was planning to go for a solo trip to Europe on this summer but many people told me it's to expensive on this time. Thanks for your advise and looks like I will do it on the next spring. I'll be so happy to have you here in my country oman again soon to have special trips with you guys😁.
Did you rent a portable wifi? Or did you guys use your data plan? Did you research the places you guys wanted to go ahead of time or was it just a "do you want to stop over in this town" kinda thing.
Jack Sparrow We just used wifi where we got it for free. No plan, no portable, and a good book. ;) Researched ahead of time and sometimes just stopped.
We also went backpacking to 22 cities in Europe, but we didn't use the Eurail pass though. I uploaded the video on my channel as well. 22 cities, 11 countries, in 22 days!!! Definitely wanted to stay longer. If given a chance, we'd definitely go back and explore more.
Can you take several train trips in one day/24hr period? i.e. stopping part way through a long regional trail, going for a hike, getting on another train, continuing to destination?
I thought I read one trip per day. My daughter and I are taking our first European trip next summer...18 days! I plan to get Eurail passes because we want to do Ireland, UK, France, Switzerland, and Italy. I'm confused about the on/off in one day. We've never taken a trip like this (backpacking our way). We plan to vlog/blog about the experience so friends/family can see our experience. If Eurail wants to let us have some tics, we'd love to make an advertisement for them about how easy it is to travel (even for novice travelers) using their services!
Most ICE and Railjet services don't require reservations, except services that go into countries where high-speed trains do require reservations (like Frankfurt to Paris)
hello! my friend is leaving for Europe soon and is still so confused about the Euro rail pass. is there any chance you guys will be doing a video in detail of how to use the pass; filling it out, using the app and reserving seats, etc? You guys are awesome. :) thank you
Omg... I didn't reserve my seats and I'm leaving in 4 days. So screwed :"( 20 hour train rides for me. You live and you learn I suppose. This video was super helpful!
Im going on a trip next year solo after i finish my contract in korea. This videos helps out alot, just wish i could get sponsored too haha new sub, thanks
My husband and I just spent close to $2000 AUD on these tickets and now are having trouble making reservations. If I had my time again we would not use the EU rail system and just book the trains from point to point. I have probably had the worst customer service experience that I have ever had. Don't bother.
Hi to both! thanks for the video. I'm going to europe this september (madrid/barcelona/Paris/Venice/Tuscany/Rome) Right now our main concern is Italy because we are going to stay a week over there. We(wife and I) are going crazy about these train routes and passes and if it's worth buying a rail pass or maybe just buy tickets over there separately... I don't know! this is my first time.
All the countries that you visiting are fairly crap for the eurail pass. All will require reservations (unless if you want to travel really slow trains). Italy and Spain, its cheap (10 euro for Italy for any route and Spain will vary) and you can often reserve the seats on the same day. France on the other hand, is very difficult to reserve seats (especially on TGV), because they only give out an limited quota for eurail pass holders, and can cost quite a fair bit. I went lucky reserving a seat on the barca to paris leg (i assume you going to do that considering the route), but at a 6am departure, and i reserved the seat 4 days out for my travel (the rest of the other timing were sold out for eurail passes). But do not hinge on that luck. So with France (or just simply any trains which go/from to France), book way ahead of time. Spain to France is a bit of a nightmare, but not as bad in comparison to what i heard to from France to Italy, in which eurail passes for high speed trains are limited (and some trains don't even take eurail passes).
just stumbled on your videos. you guys are such a help. planning my first Europe trip this summer. planning to get a eurorail pass. just wondering if you guys had any further experience taking night trains. would you say there are any safety concerns with luggage?
Thank you guys , I really like your channel it's awesome and had a lot of information any traveler need it ... maybe we meet some days in the road .. & I'm planning to visit 20 Europe countries next spring any advice ?
Couple of suggestions ... try keeping the background music to min. level and avoid talking over each other as combination of it both was making it bit difficult to pick some important bits. Now ... about the tickets, if you buy the Eurail ticket in advance then how do you later on purchase the seat reservations? And thanks for all the useful information.
Sounds good and everything but this doesn't help me at all. I'm from the Caribbean and there are no trains here. I went to the website and it seems so complicated. I have only ten days in Europe and I want to make the best of it. I don't mind purchasing the pass. How long does it take to travel from Paris, to Italy, to Amsterdam and back again? I'm worried that u may not see much. Do confusing.
+maria cummings What I would recommend is googling "Train (country)". Traveling from Paris to Rome using the SNCF, which is France's own railway company, would take 10h29m if you take the train at 10am. If you use a night train it will take 20h33m and is almost twice as expensive. Rome to Amsterdam from 1pm until the next day at 9am using Trenitalia. And roughly 4 hours from Amsterdam back to Paris using NS.
Another question: during my travels I've met SO many people who have done the banana pancake trail (southeast Asia) and loved it. I'm really thinking about doing it next year, any advice?
Kaitlyn O'Brien go to our website and check the writing section. Marko blogged his way across SE Asia in 2010. Really good articles. www.vagabrothers.com
Thanks so much for great video! I'm going to be in Europe for 8 months, some of the months will be in one location, but the rest I'll be traveling around, you guys were saying passes are beneficial for long distances, but would it be beneficial to get a single country pass? So if I were to travel around Spain for one month, it seems cheaper to buy a pass for less than $200 and use it 4 days of the month, rather than buying each ticket? Thanks again!
What is difference between SWISS pass and EURAIL Pass? And what is preferable if I will visit Swiss and Paris both....Does Rural pass is valid on swiss all rail network
Are there staffed ticket windows in the Stuttgart and Munich airports, where one can get the Eurail Pass valdated prior to travel? Or....must one buy a machine ticket to the main train stations in town, and then have the pass validated?
Hey guys, very informal video.. first time going to EUROPE Feb 12-24.. arriving in London 2/13 for 2 days.. then to Amsterdam 2/15-2/17, then to Brussles 2/17-2/19 then back to London on 2/19 until rest of stay.. which pass would you suggest?
I have never used a Eurail pass so a few more questions. So, do you buy a pass and it's like a small book and you take it with you on the trains and just show them the pass when they come around and all is good? I'm not getting the process. Don't you need a seat number? how would you get that? I've been in Rome and taken a train to Florence. I bought the ticket, then found the train, went to the right box car and sat in the seat listed on the ticket.
I'm travelling to europe by next week and I'm confused on the railway systems. Is it better to buy eurail pass if my destinations are france, belgium, amsterdam, germany, switzerland and italy? thanks in advance 😆
Hello ! Vagabrothers , like your video so much ! I'm planing this coming late spring 2017 to travel to Amsterdam,Sweden,Norway,Spain,France,Germany,Italy,Switzerland each country 2 or 3 days by Eurail pass ,please give info about Ticket price, place to stay, i' m a senior , thank you !
I think it's better to have seat reservation for a crowded route, otherwise, you will have difficulty to find a place to sit. I ever need to sit at the train hallway because the train is full and I didn't reserve the seat beforehand.
Hey peeps: quick question: My pass starts on August 19th and is the 2-month pass. Does that mean that it's valid for 60 days or just for August and September? I'm struggling so much to find this out!
Might be a silly question, but can you literally just step on the train without presenting a ticket? And then show your pass once on the train? What about for stations which have gates?
You guys are consistenly making excellent videos and in my opinion your subs to quality of videos ratio is totally disproportionate. Keep on being awesome, I can't wait for your summer uploads :)
RonMD Thanks! We're just trying to make the best travel content that we can, week after week. Of course, the best way to help us grow our channel is by sharing it with your friends! ; )
Eurail is more expensive if you have a limited schedule. It's only good if you're going to be there for a couple of months and have a very flexible schedule. I live in the UK and have travelled across the Continent by rail. Booked a lot of overnight first class sleepers about 3 months in advance and saved 40% on Eurail prices all things considered. If you're planning a trip with a specific time limit, book tickets yourself and shop around. Much cheaper.
Hi Im from Australia and planning to use the eurorail to travel from Brugge to Brussels and then Paris what other sites can i use as i have no idea thank you :)
You can literally book those tickets online without a Eurail pass. It shouldn't cost very much. You can even just show up at the station and buy them. Thalys runs a service from Brussels to Paris. For Bruges to Brussels I'd just show up and buy tickets on the day. All this information will come up on a Google search.
wait so does this pass give you 15 days to see all the countries or is it just 15 days in total that is taken up by traveling itself but you have other time to actually explore and enjoy each country?
I am planning a Europe trip in August, like for 2 weeks. Looking forward to land in Vienna followed by Prague, Brussels, Paris ,Barcelona and Zurich. Do you think I should buy a Euro pass. Going through the internet I found airfare are much less if booked ahead of travel. What’s your take ?
Eurail charges an insane amount of money for "Reservation fees" They make it sound like it's easily avoidable but it's 78 euros from Barcelona to Paris and the only way around it is to take a 23 hour route that takes 2 travel days and 10 different train connections. Save your money people, do a single country pass
I'm watching this way after the fact. However I'm curious. How would eurail pass's work if you have kids that you want to take with you? Would I be able to buy first class tickets for them as well or would they have to be seated in second class? Also are the sleeper cars big enough to hold a family or would it just be better to get 2?
Question! I'm a little confused about how to actually book the train. I just bought a pass, and online it says that I need to book the train like a minimum of 10 days in advance (?) and they'll mail your physical reservation? How did you actually reserve and book your train? Just by going to the ticket booth? Pleas explain, thanks!
Hey my brothers, i liked the infos you shared in your video. May i ask you how to get connected while you're travelling from country to other countries? i mean, do you got yourself a wifi portable or any provider that can help out ? Thanks
What do you mean by mifi ? any wifi on train? hehe. i'm considering about get connected while on board during my trip to other countries :) any advice ? Thanks my bro
Here's my general experience in using the eurail pass on trains
- Germany, Netherlands, Czech = Eurail friendly (can show up on day and no mandatory reservations)
- Spain, Italy = Not bad (Mandatory reservations but doesn't cost much and can be reserved on the day)
- France (or any trains to/from france)= Crappy (Not only mandatory reseravtions, but a limited quota for eurail passes on high speed rail there)
+GazzaOak pretty spot on, France is difficult with the Eurail pass and almost always requires reservations and additional fees
D

nice! just watched your video

Could you explain how you incorporated your pass with hotel accommodations? Did you have to plan your hotel stays with the days you travelled?
Finally someone knows about the Basque Country!!!!!! 😀😀😀
Woo I'm going inter railing on June 25th..so excited!!

The best way to get around Europe is with a leased 'Open Europe Peugeot'. Total freedom to do what you want and see what you want.
Antman sounds like fun!

Thanks for answering the Eurail questions.

How about a discussion on whether or not a first class ticket is worth it vs a regional 2nd class ticket?
Greetings from Vienna :) hope you have enjoyed it!

Oh, I love traveling by train.

Thank you guys , I really like your channel it's awesome and had a lot of information any traveler need it ... maybe we meet some days in the road .. & I'm planning to visit 20 Europe countries next spring any advice ?

I agree about the background music. It was so loud I had to lower the volume and put the captions on to understand what they were saying.
What about your shopping purchases when backpacking? Do you just post things home direct from a store?
+Toni Plows usually bring a stuffable bag for overflow
Excellent Video Guys
you can go to the uk now (at least with the interrail pass which is the same thing as far as im concerned)
What backpacks do you guys use and how are they small enough to be a carry on?
F-Stop Satori and Tilopa. Both fit carry on
Like the Basque Country? I can tell from your T-Shirt!
Thank you for the video, Is the app good for families too with kids ?

+maria cummings What I would recommend is googling "Train (country)". Traveling from Paris to Rome using the SNCF, which is France's own railway company, would take 10h29m if you take the train at 10am. If you use a night train it will take 20h33m and is almost twice as expensive.
Rome to Amsterdam from 1pm until the next day at 9am using Trenitalia.
And roughly 4 hours from Amsterdam back to Paris using NS.
if you want to make the best out of 10 days my suggestion is by plane (ryanair, jetstar, etc are very cheap, but beware of additional costs)
Really good articles. www.vagabrothers.com
thank you (:
Thanks so much for great video! I'm going to be in Europe for 8 months, some of the months will be in one location, but the rest I'll be traveling around, you guys were saying passes are beneficial for long distances, but would it be beneficial to get a single country pass? So if I were to travel around Spain for one month, it seems cheaper to buy a pass for less than $200 and use it 4 days of the month, rather than buying each ticket? Thanks again!
Like because of the T-Shirt! ;) Great job!
;)
thumps up for Austria!! :D
Lena Anna Love Austria! Thanks for watching!
I mean, how great is the austrian reiljet, right, right? :D
aweeesoooome!
I'm travelling to europe by next week and I'm confused on the railway systems. Is it better to buy eurail pass if my destinations are france, belgium, amsterdam, germany, switzerland and italy?
thanks in advance 😆
Do you find it's cheaper to get around busses? What do budget travellers prefer?
Hello ! Vagabrothers , like your video so much ! I'm planing this coming late spring 2017 to travel to Amsterdam,Sweden,Norway,Spain,France,Germany,Italy,Switzerland each country 2 or 3 days by Eurail pass ,please give info
about Ticket price, place to stay, i' m a senior , thank you !
I think it's better to have seat reservation for a crowded route, otherwise, you will have difficulty to find a place to sit. I ever need to sit at the train hallway because the train is full and I didn't reserve the seat beforehand.
you guys ROCK,,,awesome info,,,just what i need ,,i have a plan for two months global pass, ,Thanks a Billions,,,,,
Hey peeps: quick question: My pass starts on August 19th and is the 2-month pass. Does that mean that it's valid for 60 days or just for August and September? I'm struggling so much to find this out!
If you guys got off the train like at night in a city where would you sleep?
I’m from Liverpool if I bought the Eurail pass how would I get to France the quickest and easiest way and how long would it take . Thank you
Thanks so much! This is going to help a LOAD with my gap year!
Luke Fallon awesome! Stoked the video will help!
Might be a silly question, but can you literally just step on the train without presenting a ticket? And then show your pass once on the train? What about for stations which have gates?
Excellent INfo
You guys are consistenly making excellent videos and in my opinion your subs to quality of videos ratio is totally disproportionate. Keep on being awesome, I can't wait for your summer uploads :)
RonMD Thanks! We're just trying to make the best travel content that we can, week after week. Of course, the best way to help us grow our channel is by sharing it with your friends! ; )
vagabrothers done :)
Hello, thanks for the info. What is the cheapest way to reserve the trains at the internet?
5:36 that's one epic high five! =)
ternitamas indeed it was!
Hi
Im from Australia and planning to use the eurorail to travel from Brugge to Brussels and then Paris
what other sites can i use as i have no idea
thank you :)
Im traveling from holland to spain to ibiza. This will be done most likely over the course of 2 weeks. Do you recommend getting a eurail pass?
wait so does this pass give you 15 days to see all the countries or is it just 15 days in total that is taken up by traveling itself but you have other time to actually explore and enjoy each country?
+Christina the latter. Our Eurail Pass gave us 15 travel days over two months, but there are tons of different packages. Check their website ✌🏼
I would like to do 7days travel by overnight train with bed. Where would you recommend to start and finish?
Thanks for this video!!!
TheDecember1212 Thanks for watching!
Save your money people, do a single country pass
does this cover bernina express? glacier express in Switzerland?
I'm watching this way after the fact. However I'm curious. How would eurail pass's work if you have kids that you want to take with you? Would I be able to buy first class tickets for them as well or would they have to be seated in second class? Also are the sleeper cars big enough to hold a family or would it just be better to get 2?
Greetings from the Basque Country!
I purchased 1st class, since I am over 26 a warning to all , the rip off part is not being allowed in the 1st class lounges in the train stations.

My son and I are planning to travel to Paris, Rome, and Munich, is it advisable to buy the Global rail pass?
