@@jasonsantiago6308it really does. a MML collection would not be enough for me to forgive capcom for canceling MML3 but it'd be pretty nice nonetheless
I have the port of Dolphin Blue for Dreamcast, CD Disc with artwork, it’s awesome. It’s like having a really cool arcade machine as a home console. Riding dolphins on the waves with hella fire power blasting away all the enemies is fun.
Wow! This looks amazing! Love that 2D sprite on 3D background thing, but thia goes above and beyond with the animations. Adding this to my list of games that need ports to modern consoles. Also, I give you a nod of respect for the Mega Man Legends quote. RIP to that fantastic franchise.
It's so cool, isn't it? I'm still clamouring for Sega/Sammy to give us some Naomi and Atomiswave collections on modern platforms! Glad you spotted that reference, haha - I love MML so much!
Played this earlier this year and loved it, Funny that instead of the scraggly Metal Slug prisoners you got support from various cute military women, burst out lauging when I realised each had bespoke animations one was 20 seconds in total the artists really had their own priorities that's for sure hahaha.
So Sega-Sammy have their own version of Metal Slug but they decided to leave it hidden as one of their many arcade exclusives? I'm not exactly surprised at this point but this just makes me want them to port all of their hidden gems even more.
It's such a shame it didn't get ported to the DC back then. I remember seeing a glimpse of this game in a magazine and waiting for the Dreamcast release that never came.
I never was a dreamcast guy but I just bought a friends. Didn't know anything about burning disc for it, so this is cool. I'll get my hands on some cd-r's and try this out!
I've known about this game for years but somehow still haven't been able to run it on any emulator I've tried 😭 I'm glad it gets attetion every once in a while. It truly looks like one of those cool game concepts made by pixel artists you see on twitter every once in a while.
It runs smooth as butter on Redream so it might be worth giving that a shot! Agreed though, it almost looks like an indie game love letter to old SNK stuff
For me this is the best way to tell a story in a game. I wished we could get more of these today . Environmental and expository is the way to go. I love how the devs did in Metal Slug and here as well
I don’t want to sound like a console warrior but it’s crazy that even though Dreamcast and the Wii U which were considered failures due to sales, still had more unique games than Xbox 1 and series S/X have had since their inception. Generation 5 and 6 was the crème de la crème of pixel art design and I’m so happy those games from that era, are starting to get more attention.
This looks like it has a similar art direction and runs on the exact same hardware as The Rumble Fish Which is a high compliment, that game looks great even now
revealing my zoomer status here, but i always love finding out about gorgeous 6th-gen gems like this. thanks for raising some awareness, im so happy that games like this wont be lost to time
No shame in being a zoomer, my friend 😊 And hey, this one was even obscure to me and I'm old! Really glad you like the look of this one though and I totally agree we're lucky to have these gems preserved by the fan community 😎
I have read about this game before, but never seen video-footage of it. Pastel dolphins carrying anime-soldiers to battle against an evil empire in a Waterworld Metal Slug fusion is so delightful that I'm baffled they haven't at least tried to convert it to modern platforms, like not even an Arcade Archive release?
03:56 you said that with such cunning, it almost sounds like an insult. “you’re a stinkin’ load o’ horizontal SCHMUP” anyway I loved this video and thanks for letting me know of this gem ;)
Dolphin Blue is amazing. My only complaint is when I tried to play a version of it on Dreamcast. It was insanely laggy with *awful* load times. In the arcade it was perfect though.
@@DreamcastEnjoyer last time I tried playing this game emulated was like 2012 and a lot of the 3D assets were glitchy. Im sure it emulates better now a days, but with digital distribution, this would make for a good port to play.....again if Sega-Sammy ever bothers which I don't think that division of Sega cares about anything but Pachinko these days, at least Arc System works bought the rights to Guilty Gear back from them.
Me who just decided to repair my Dreamcast (surprisingly in very good conditions) and discovering there are STILL games being ported (and even made, I saw once) some 20 years later is crazy. This one is especially great, I'm sure the friend who helped me repair would love this game. I'm from Europe, and I assume the port is Japanese only? Will I need a freeloader, or are there new rules/tricks to bypass the zone-locking from old?
Oooo I'm not sure as I was emulating this one (so I can upscale) If you do a search on "dolphin blue megavolt85" you should get the Dreamcast Talk thread where he explains set-up and compatibility
This is a fan port so it's free to download. The original game is arcade only so you'd have to buy a Sega Atomiswave, which I suspect are pretty expensive
The idea that ""Dolphin Blue" was ported to the Dreamcast, making it accessible to a broader audience" is asinine. What is the point? Why not port it to a system a "broader audience" owns?
This is a fan port, not official from Sammy, so I suspect it is probably that the hardware similarities between the Atomiswave and Dreamcast made this an easier choice than wrangling with newer tech. If you really want to know though, you'd be better speaking to Megavolt85. I'm just a dude on the Internet reviewing the game.
Within seconds i'm loving the art style.
I felt the same - fell straight in love with this one!
It's gorgeous! I love the use of background and foreground. And those 3D effects like the ship? 😗👌
"a world covered by endless water" reminds me of mega man legends
Haha that's what I was quoting! Glad somebody spotted it 😊
That needs a remaster

That's where that quote was from! I knew it was familiar but my brain was only serving up that Waterworld movie.

I miss this era of anime, I always loved this style. The Dreamcast had so many Japanese games in this style and they were all top tier.
I love that 90s anime look too. This game captures it really well!
Wished i heard of this sooner
Hot damn a new Dreamcast Enjoyer video about a game I’ve never heard of and it’s GOT AMAZING VIBES?? Helluva way to make Monday great.

Hahaha I know, right? A lot of care in the animation here, and definitely a big improvement from the Metal Slug prisoners!
I know where my priorities are! Adding this game to my todo-list
So Sega-Sammy have their own version of Metal Slug but they decided to leave it hidden as one of their many arcade exclusives? I'm not exactly surprised at this point but this just makes me want them to port all of their hidden gems even more.

Totally agree with you there! Sometimes I love a game to have a few cutscenes (especially if it has hammy voice acting), but usually I prefer this way
I don’t want to sound like a console warrior but it’s crazy that even though Dreamcast and the Wii U which were considered failures due to sales, still had more unique games than Xbox 1 and series S/X have had since their inception.

I think that's a perfectly reasonable take 😊
I'm mainly a 5th & 6th gen guy, myself
The only Metal Slug like to perhaps outdo it! In it's own more Miazaki like artstyle, of course. + Lisa Frank
This looks like it has a similar art direction and runs on the exact same hardware as The Rumble Fish
Which is a high compliment, that game looks great even now
You're right there - both this and Rumble Fish run on the Sega Atomiswave. Although not sure if there is any crossover in artists on the dev team.
This looks absolutely awesome!
I can confirm it's well worth a play 😊
This looks rad! Although it is originally an arcade game, this just screams Dreamcast vibes
Totally agree there! The Atomiswave arcade machine was largely built on Dreamcast hardware, so it makes sense too
A world covered by endless water + blue/pink dolphins.
Its a one piece x dave the Diver crossover

Same here - I bet lots of people would love to check it out!

I'd heartily recommend it 😊
Will happily check this out. Already tempted to say this one might be in the running for best looking 2d game ever imo.
It's a real thing of beauty!
Why hasn't this game been ported to modern consoles and PC yet?
Exactly what I keep thinking! There are so many awesome games like this stuck as arcade exclusives and it seems crazy to me
So it's basically an aquatic metal slug

I think the soul still burns in the indie scene, and some smaller studios, but I agree most mainstream games are very bland these days

Absolutely! Some of my favourite pixel art in this one
