Peahi are bulletproof, from the lenses which are jaw-dropping durable and the hinge system. The print on the inside of the arms is the only thing that rubbed off in over 2 years. It's not super light. it fits like a custom italian suit (for me anyway) I have had and worn many top-tier sunglasses, and MJ is hands down the best for everyday use
Maui Jim sunglasses are overpriced garbage. They use some kind of cheap coating on the inner lens that will eventually peel away. Sent a pair back for repair and less than a year, same problem. It gets better, though. Their sunglasses are literally impossible to keep clean. Whatever kind of garbage coating they use on the lens turns them into a smeary mess whenever you try to clean them. I specifically addressed this issue when I sent my sunglasses back for repair. You know what was done? Nothing. Got the sunglasses back with the same exact issue. Don't waste your money on these things. Overpriced junk made of cheap materials.
I’m so sorry to hear about your experience! I wish we could offer you some advice on why this happened based on our experiences with Maui Jim. Despite you having issues twice, this seems anomalous based off the feedback we receive from our Maui customers. In fact, the feedback we get about Maui's is so far from negative that we don't really know where to begin. There are the standard things that come to mind, which you likely did - being careful of extreme heat like leaving them in the car and being sure to use an anti-reflective-safe lens cleaner or just water and a mild soap and only a 100% clean cotton or microfiber cloth to wipe them. There is a backside anti-reflective coating, but we haven’t heard of issues like you’ve mentioned here. If you ordered them from us, we would be more than happy to take them back for a full refund or exchange!
@@sportrxeyewear These are relatively older sunglasses, and to be honest, they have no value to me at this point. They're way out of any warranty, and I'm not paying to have the lenses replaced again. As a consumer, I have no faith whatsoever in the Maui Jim line of sunglasses. I seriously question the quality of their products. Once I get my prescription worked out, I'll probably give the oakley flak a try, as they have a solid reputation. Do you guys handle full prescription sunglasses for the oakley flak 2.0 XL?
@@Sagittarius-88I've had my Maui Jims for three years, and have not had any problems with them. My Oakleys scratched much easier. I will be sticking with Maui JIm.
My Ho’Okipas are cracking at the corners and they scratched easily at the lense left the first month I bought them. MJs warranty is worthless because they don’t cover these issues.
Agree on the issues...my pair keeps loosening up and won't stay firm on my face anymore....can't look down, or they fall off. Never had this issue with oakley, which I've always only worn for the past 3 decades! Lol
Hookipa are just like the Banyan, what the hell? Had Banyan for 2 years awesome but rubber nose on one side broke when I had them on my head got up hit the top of my truck. Now I'm rocking Carrera Bounds I bought 2 and 2nd was half off, I bought 2 Carrera Bounds sunglasses for way less than the Maui or Oakley or any other, plus they look way better, Carrera Bounds style are the best look.
Hey there! Sorry to hear about breaking those shades, that's always frustrating. Even though you have already found a killer new pair of shades, I thought I'd offer the difference between the Ho'okipa and Banyans for the sake of it! Many sunglass brands will offer popular style in multiple "eye-sizes", to offer multiple fits in popular models. Maui Jim does things a little different, and releases frames like the Banyans, Ho'okipa, and Sandy Beach which all look very similar (if not identical), but all have a different fit. In this case, the Banyans have an SFW of 138, The Ho'okipa a 134, and the Sandy Beach is 131.
The Onshore's SFW (SportRx Frame Width) is 140mm making it a solid mens large, just shy of XL. It's a good frame to consider for big heads but if you're unsure what size you require, it's good to measure the width of any frames you have from inside hinge to hinge to get an sense of your SFW range. Learn more about SportRx frame width here! 👉ua-cam.com/video/MGTuNILZVzE/v-deo.html 🔥
There isn't another that is quite like it, but check out the Island time, Southern Cross, and Byron Bay for a similar aesthetic but larger frame. Also, you can always reach out to our friendly, knowledgeable opticians for more tailored assistance at 888-831-5817!
I originally subscribed to your channel because of the Oakley love you have always given. However I've stayed and am a lifer because of my complete devotion to Maui Jim sunglasses. Absolutely the best sunglasses in the world.
Hi Tim! ALL of Maui Jim's authentic sun lenses come polarized. Unfortunately there are no tinted non-polarized options produced by Maui JIm. However, Oakley, Smith, RayBan, as well as many other brands offer up terrific non-polar options OR customize your own! www.sportrx.com/shopby/frames_for-male/product_type-sunglasses.html?show_full_attribute=1
Hi Rob. Thanks for all your great videos. Been a fan of Maui Jim for years and love the Rose lens. Currently wearing Backswing (grey glass lens and metal frame) but looking for something lightweight without too much wrap - want to try something more rounded at bottom but hard to find a pair that aren't completely round or square/rectangular or have glass lens. Any recommendations would be appreciate. Thanks.
HI Dermot! Thanks for watching and commenting. It looks like the backswing has a frame width of 142mm making it a solid mens XL fit. My question is , do the rimless ones you showed fit a sporty kinda rough on his glasses person , because my experience with rimless glasses hasn't been great so far . Also , are they available in Maui rose in RX ? Cheers Rob .
Late response, but I've been using MJ rimless for years and I have broken 1 pair because I put them in my pocket while hiking and climbing over a fallen tree. But they're surprisingly robust. Bigger concern is scratching them, so some care should be taken. But I've taken mine backpacking, parasailing, fishing, jogging, on whitewater, and never had any problems except the 1 time I messed up.
