I just got one, but now that it is made or owned by Kering, we are all paying nearly $400 for $30 glasses. Kering is just another Luxotica after all . Hopefully their support remains intact for a bit more. Ultimately, we will be dealing with no support or generic support (where it is better not to call than to call and get non-helpful answers)
Kerring handles things VERY differently than lux, and isn’t a license owner but actually owns and operates each brand individually. Much more like modern skunkworks Ina the automotive world, or the fashion house model in this one. No matter than brand your cost of actual materials in production is low, so you’re kidding yourself if you think that’s what separates the good from the bad. The processing steps and marginal increases in cost of parts make a big impact (TBT pennies per frame)small batch and master artisan craftsmanship increase these costs dramatically however, and a single frame can cost hundreds (or more). to produce at the higher end of the scale.
All that said, the Mauis I’ve seen since Kerring acquired them have only been better than before. But it’ll be 3 years or more before we really see how this plays out. Here’s hoping!! 🤞🏻 watching the same game as thelios took over Vuarnet recently. Hoping that one is for the better as well, but in their case the customer service can’t possibly get worse. 😂😂😂
I wish they had more classic, iconic styles and less beachie frames.
I know its Maui Jim at the end of the day, born in Hawaii, made for people on the beach in Hawaii but still...
They would be the ultimate brand for me if they also had similar styles like Oliver Peoples or Persol have.
I think with the new partnership with Kerring we’ll start seeing more iconic lifestyle looks. We’re already seeing a little of that take shape with the likes of likeke, valley isle, and aloha lane 😎
