- I decided to head north and chase after a few salmon on the salmon river in Pulaski, NY. If you have never caught one of these fish out of a kayak I highly suggest it. Enjoy!!!!
Thanks for uploading an awesome fishing video. Hope I can go up there for Salmon fishing some day.
You think every boat is going to stop and wait in the estuary u have another thing coming 🤣🤣🤣 Pulaski always a laugh
Can you launch a boat with an outboard from Pine Grove? I have a small 14ft boat and wanna bring it to the estuary
You sure can!!
@@fishhuntchronicles can you go past the bridge?
This video is wonderful to watch; a way to catch fresh kings without fighting the bigger crowds. It's hard to see but it looks like you are using a float of some kind to suspend the egg sack. Can you tell us about the rig you are using? How far from the hook do you attach the float, the size hook and sinker would be nice too. Thanks and please keep these coming!
I’ll be making a video on that shortly….stay tuned!!!
@@fishhuntchronicles Great!
Awesome! I’d love to try this. I’ve never salmon fished at all but I live 45 minutes away and just got a fishing kayak last year.
You gotta try it next season.....it is a blast. The big ones will take ya for a ride of your life
great video thank you for sharing. i haven't been up there in years. i definitely would like to kayak fish for salmon but would not know where to start. this looks like the estuary with all that traffic. might consider it this fall.
I would highly recommend. It’s a lot of fun especially from the yak!!!!
Awesome video, I live near dexter so I usually kayak fish for salmon there. I’m intimidated by how wide that water is in the SR. Hats off to you!
You kayak salmon fish in dexter? Right in dexter below the dam?
I know exactly where ths spot is. I think they call it the trailer hole, its in the estuary. Years ago when you were allowed to use lures with treble hooks I rented a rowboat at Larson's just east of here. All the locals said salmon would never hit a lure. At that time they were all casting large weighted treble hooks snagging in this hole. So I worked the bank of the island you can see in this video, east of this spot. There was a salmon jumping in the same spot, time after time. I anchored and cast for 30 minutes straight. I used a copper Mepps spinner. Slam, it swallowed it. Put up a great fight. It was a coho, 16 lb male. I rowed back to Larson's to clean it and put in my cooler. Larson said you have a trophy size fish, you should mount it. I didn't have the money for that but I have a photo of it. Then a few years later fishing of the route 3 bridge I caught a king female about about 15 lbs with a Rebel about 8 am. These fish do take lures, it just takes patience. I went to Alaska once, and the salmon regularly take eggs and lures, same with the salmon in Oregon I went to once. NY allows lifting I think only because they want anglers to land a lot of fish so they keep their business. I don't blame them, but some salmon in all runs, will hit lures.
I'm looking to do this exact thing this year. Enter near port Ontario and kayak up to before Douglaston. They running yet? Also your static bump... you run it on a triple swivel? What length / power rod you using and lb line? Sorry for all the questions - I've never caught a Salmon and I pumped.
You will have a blast. Haven’t been up yet. I’ve heard there is some salmon in the river but they aren’t crazy. I would wait a few more weeks
Nice to see you actually fishing and catching salmon, maybe others will learn that it is possible!!! Looks like you have a whole system worked out, nice job 👍
Thank you!!!!! It is for sure possible. And out of the kayak is the best!!!
That's awesome!!!
Thank you!!!
Fished that same spot many years with my dad ! 45+ yrs later I still go every year
Great video!👍Great content New Friend Here 😉🤙🎣
Thank you!!!
I know it's a bit late, but was your egg drifting or stationary the entire time. I have never seen salmon caught like this, and I'm going up there this year
I do both. It all depends on the situation and how many people there are. Good luck this fall and maybe I’ll see ya on the water!!!
@@fishhuntchronicles yea I hope yo see you too! Definitely excited
Buy a Salmon net !
Do you pay the owner of the land of the trailer a fee for launch access?
No private property
Tight line rigs?
What is this stationary bump method about?
Just a sinker with a floating egg sack
Is that the dsr part of the river??
No this is the estuary. The dsr is upriver
Was that by port Ontario??
It was!!!
Wheres the best place to launch the yak? Ive always thought about taking it up for stagers instead of wading the river and battle fish. Just hit town yesterday and got some steelies.
Pine grove is probably your best bet
