That’s my jam Mikey,I am a pro spey caster and then bass fisherman, keep at it Mike it will help with bass fishing and vise versa. It’s all focus brother!!!
Mike that was awesome! I love the old coach keeping you in tacked with your excitement. That's what makes you Mike. Love it. Best is you getting on your knees like your on the boat when you fight the fish. Make more steelhead vids Mike.
Love ya mike... big fan! Love to see ya fishing the SR especially up in altmar were the men fish. A dude with your means could be fishing the DSR ( DOUGLASTON SALMON RUN ) but you keep it reel. You gotta get up there during the craziness that is the salmon river salmon run...its insane but something a lunatic like you would love! My wife , son and i go every year and count the days till were back in the river...hope to see ya up there one day! May your feet stay dry and your lines tight!
Hell yes, welcome to my world. There’s so many things to land a fish in that river and don’t worry usually it’s one fish for every four hook ups after he ripped the line for 15 minutes, the hook hole gets pretty big, normally falls right out at your feet. Hopefully he’s in the net or on land when that happens some days you can’t land them because of how they feel when you feel that from the steelhead and salmon, you’ll be hooked for life
When I was a young man we used to drive the shoreline of Lake Ontario and hit all the creeks that fed the lake. After we fished this area we would hit them all on the way home. Good times.
Lake O used to host the biggest fish in the Great Lakes. Michigan/Huron has takin the title in the last decade. SR is an absolute shit show. Yea the guide needs to stfu.
Well I can say it is fun no matter where they are and also I don't know Michigan but here in ny it is the salmon and trout prime destination for people all over the world. Also some of the biggest and prettiest steelies in the world. Now I'm about to go look for my target buck in the snow sorry Ike I gotta go
Once you hook up on a steelhead on the swing or downstream, walk and keep on walkin... once they gain down yards theyre impossible 😅 always easier to net them if you get below and let the current push em in the net and have your drag looser. you guys must have had a good fly setup because you had good action. Great job hookin up!
I don’t know why he has you chasing the fish like that into them rapids down below I fish that spot all the time I never chase them into the fast water land em where you stand
Trout basics on the fly are not to let the fish get below you. Always get below the fish and keep some side pressure and get low on the scoop. This was taught back in books from the Catskill and Adirondack fly fishing. If you stay still and just horse them in you are lucky, have really strong tippet and leader for much larger fish, or just don't wanna walk and take pressure off the fish which is good for them for healthy release anyway.
Growing up doing this kinda of stuff it’s cool to see a guy who has influenced the sport so much, be a student of the sport.
Awesome! Love fishing the SR, Oz, and other tribs for fall, winter, and drop back season trout.

Steelie fishin is a blast, glad you got to do it!
I do tons of steelhead fishing here in Northern California. There’s nothing like steelhead fishing. Love to see it Mike!

“He was in the chompers “. Spoken like a true snagger.
This type of fishing is going to make Mike rage more than bass fishing, whole different ball game of fishing.

SR is always a blast
I really felt your excitement ike
Yeahh!!!!
That’s a great steelhead run!
Mike you’re right up the road from your home lake,Oneida !
So glad you got on the fly !! It’s so difficult

I live where there are steelhead all year and they are my favorite fish to catch, the hardest fish to land hands down.
Great outing.
I did a double take when I saw this. So glad to see you on the river.
Mike try a centerpin! Changes the steelhead game forever
Thanks for the cameo!
You bet!
That guide was kinda annoying like calm down old man 😂Looks fun but Michigan steel is better👍🏼
I concur.
Very annoying dude...

I wanna check out spots in MI or PA for steels. Hated the salmon river
When ike is fishing your exact spot 😂😂
come to the real salmon river over here in Idaho, we’re not so loud and bossy and the fish are bigger… lol
Idaho's full, stay out!!!
The famous Pulaski River!! Nothing better than having a stream like this in our back yards!
Don't you get tired of having a million people fishing near you though?? Solitude is a nice part of fly fishing and the salmon river is pretty chaotic
@@shad3128 never fished it, I stick to the Finger Lakes :)
Wow your up in my neck doing what we do out here. Nice bro

what WT 2 hand rods were you guys using?
What fly rods were you using?
Nice steele!
People hire a drift boat and they fish the launch 😂
Part 2 we are in the boat!!! Snow melt caused most of the river to be blown out so we held tight for the morning!
Never give up
Good to see your fishing different species instead of bass ...
Come on up to Michigan next. I got spots👍
fixed weight or sliding? lets go over setup
Great video What were the flies used?
Theres nothing better then walking the dog down stream. Thats what we call it anyway.
hardest fighting fresh water fish and its not close
altmar pool parking at Bridge St?
Yup
Nice Fish!
I never did this kind of fishing ....or ever fished with a fly rod
I don’t know why he has you chasing the fish like that into them rapids down below I fish that spot all the time I never chase them into the fast water land em where you stand

Was this early spring of 2023? Def not from this year fall/winter 23' We literally just got snow 2 days ago. Jan 6th and 7th
Guides are so annoying. The guy knows how to fight a fish, stop telling him like a child
He was yappin at him quite a bit!
What brand is that 11' 6 rod???
Adrian has those rods made by Bart rods, a local guy that does nice work.
You don't keep and eat any??
I would have left if that was my guide. So negative. Every other word was "don't".
We need Mike on a pin! Also steelheaders do not take handoffs! Do better!
