Just wanted to say thank you very much for showcasing our gulf coast in Mississippi. You don't see many videos out there about us so it makes me proud that you've shown us down here in a positive light. Best to you.
Why are you proud? It's going to make all these dumb liberals from around the country want to move here and ruin this place like they do everywhere else.
An Arkansas resident, I've been exploring, enjoying and promoting the Mississippi Gulf Coast for 37 years. 6 minutes in and I'm very impressed with your video already. THANK YOU SIR!
I served as Radio Officer on a Fyffes ship which sailed between Gulfport and Puerto Cortes, Honduras every week. That was in the seventies. I have great memories of my times in Gulfport. I even got to see the Biloxi base. I am now retired and hopefully, I will visit again when I make my great retirement trip later this year.
Forgot to mention the time we departed Gulfport because of a cyclone warning. We eventually arrived in Puerto Cortes to find that most of the port was devastated.
My wife and I are moving to Gulfport for her job in the Spring from Greenville, SC. As a Floridian, I am definitely looking forward to getting near the water again.
Hurricane Katrina was way more Mississippi’s storm than New Orleans. It nearly wiped the whole coast off the map when New Orleans got failed levees. At least with New Orleans, most of their structures are still standing.
He wasn't lying abt the humidity for sure. At 0400, I was sweating as soon as I walked outside and we didn't even start PT yet....lol This plc will always be special to me and not too far away is where I created even more great memories: NOLA.
I always liked the line in Biloxi Blues, "Africa Hot". That perfectly explains it. Had an uncle who was a retired SeaBee and was stationed out of Gulfport most of his time in the Navy. Still have a relative or two living there and next week, sign on a house we just bought in Gulfport. Having been out at sea during a couple hurricanes, I made sure I was far enough away to enjoy the beach but not the surges. As far as the mosquitos, use the same logic you use with bears. Hang with someone you know they want to bite, like outrunning the bear. thanks for the video.
I am very impressed you nailed pronunciations of everything. Great video! Biggest reason for me to avoid the water is all the jellyfish! You will come out feeling like your legs are covered in razor burn.
2 tips.. July is the worst month for them, Bring meat tenderizer ( in the can ) , it will help pull the sting out. And a thing of baby powder to get the sand off of you when you get back to your car.
Thanks for the 4k viewing. I used the Sennheiser ear buds and your sound was crystal clear in stereo. When the traffic was on the left the left speaker picked it up perfect. When the sound moved to the right, same thing. Really great. Greetings from Colombia.
My grandmother was from Gulfport! R.I.P. Thank you for all you do! Edit: Thank you I was in the Navy and didn't know that about the Seabees and Camille. Interesting.
Wear sunscreen and sandals on the beach. Sometumes there's glass in the sand. And if the street you live on floods during a thunderstorm, then evacuate if we get a hurricane that's Category 2 or higher.
Lot of changes as I was stationed at Kessler AFB in 1969 for training and a lot of changes to the area. My wife and I lived in Ocean Springs on the beach it was great we left just before the hurricane happened. Kessler AFB was a training base for all military branches. Really had a good time there. I got back to that area one a sales trip in 1979. And there were a lot of changes back then. I’ve been wanting to to take up the coast car tour but my age and health have prevented me from this car tour as it’s in October each year. Maybe this year as my son has offered to do some traveling together because of my health. Hope to get to do this soon before I expire. Great video.
As a life long resident of Biloxi, MS... NONE of us would say that the Island View casino is the best of Biloxi. It's not even close. Just to get that out there.
YOu are right.. It's the best in Gulfport tho and better than the two in Hancock County. I use to love going to The Palace and Boomtown, but too far to drive to lose my money, betting minimum in an hour or less
The first Shaggy's is in Pass Christian, by the way. And did you go to the Palace on Senior day? You know they all have their own Senior days right? Also, you should have mentioned that the Palace is the only smoke free casino in Biloxi.. The Island View opened up it's sister casino on the beach across from the first one in Gulfport and it's a smoke free one to. Guess they call it the Beach Casino. 🤷 And people can go out to the barrier islands aka Ship and Cat, and the water is clear, it's not clean looking like that near the beaches, because everything comes in , but can't get back out. Lord knows what out there between the barriers islands and the beaches since Katrina. Water came in over 30 ft in some places and almost a mile inland.. But thanks for showing 2 of the 7 cities along the coast
I was stationed at NCBC thru the AF tho. I'm from the northeast; different type of living, attitude, vibe, atmosphere, but this plc will always hold a special place in my heart. Great memories. I wld do it all over again. Loved NOLA btw. Another sentimental place for me. Gulfport is just not too far away.
Yes I went there last month on vacation stayed at the hard rock hotel it was nice...then traveled to Panama city beach the next day I will definitely go back...I also had the wings at margaritaville...I just hate they ran out of souvier cups blenders cups...and the Sugar factory didn't have the goblets as souviers either to purchase.
Well ur hometown holds a lot of great memories in my heart. I was way far away from home. It's a different pace, vibe, attitude, scenery for me, but I still loved it and appreciated it. Not too many places I feel abt the way I do in Gulfport/Biloxi.
I definitely miss it down there. I used to live in Diamondhead back in 98/99 and it was an awesome little community. Always loved visiting Gulfport and Biloxi.
Actually the beach was made in the 1950's. but you are correct about the steps. Sadly they won't dig back down past 3 or 4 steps from the top of the seawall, which is stupid , since every time the wind is bad, they spend weeks getting the sand off of Hwy 90.
Still wouldn't recommend it to people for the flesh eating bacteria that pops up time to time here....or the jellyfish either. Was stung as a kid. The water on the south side of the barrier islands is prettier though then you have to watch out for deadlier sea life. Oh....and the bones from the fish...or broken bottles on the beach....just wear footware of some sort and you should be fine.
We don't recommend getting in the water truthful because of the flesh eating bacteria. I lived on the gulf coast all my life only put my feet in the water. But now I wouldn't come close but the beach is still very relaxing
Just trying to get peoples opinion. I like to get away from For my job I fly into Vegas for about 3 days Just to get away from work would Biloxi be a good destination for that? Also if I stayed at the big hotels would I need a car to entertain myself.
Biloxi is one of my favorite places to get away for a few days. Staying at either the Beau Rivage or the Hard Rock would put you within walking distance of some great local restaurants in the downtown area. Those two casinos are side by side. Some of the hotels offer free shuttles to other casinos, and there is a Biloxi Hopper that runs up and down Hwy 90 all day and into the night. Not sure how that is operating since COVID, but Uber is available and was less than $10 a trip for 3 of us to run back and forth from our hotel to different areas on 90. Not sure what you like to do, but Biloxi has a nice mall, and Gulfport has a name brand outlet mall for shopping. You can charter fishing or shrimping trips or tour local historical sites. Gambling, eating fresh local seafood, and soaking up the sun are my favorite activities, and there is plenty of that available. The people there are so friendly and helpful! I think you would love it if you are looking to relax and have fun in a laid back atmosphere.
Thanks for posting. I live about 2 hours away. We try to go once a month, we really enjoy it and no longer worry about going to Vegas. I’ve eaten at all of the restaurants you did all are good. It’s hard to get a bad meal there. Island View has become our home base. They have the best comps! It is also 2 casinos in one, a smoking and a non smoking across the street from each other. Super easy to get free rooms even if you are a low roller.
@@travelmanMN Definitely, December is not usually to cold yet, although you never know when a cold front may come through. It isn’t unusual to be able to wear shorts and shirtsleeves ( I don’t wear shorts, but many do).

Good old Biloxi, Mississippi... I really got to go there for a visit again because it has been a long while (since 2005).
I wish those that moved away and never came back because of Katrina would come back. It’s such a nice region.
I’m from New Orleans and Gulfport is my get away. Gulfport and Biloxi are amazing towns.
Very glad to see this video, as we will be driving through these areas. Nice to see some great places of interest!

The half shell is fabulous, haven't eaten there in many years, but last time I was there it was wonderful ❤
My wife and I was there for our 3rd anniversary and we loved it , if you go try a restaurant called The Reef omg , the food and drinks were so good.
