I completely relate with the experience of scary heart symptoms upon re-feeding. This episode was really spot on. Definitely follow their advice and GO SLOW, listening to your own body. (I’ve had a full cardiology work up recently and am supposedly “fine” but I’m tachy (120-130) with high BP and chest pain with the slightest emotional or physical stress so I know I have to go even slower while working my way up to giving my body what it needs). I think the lack of good hormone production has a lot to do with this as well. My symptoms feel connected to adrenaline and cortisol production as well.
Great episode! Would love to hear from yall or Kathleen about what to do if we missed warnings and did go to fast and gain weight(maybe a subsection of another episode or its own episode). The warnings to go slow are definitely appreciated but hearing tips for the other side would be great!

I would love a better understanding on how to safely lose weight. I gained weight on carnivore, and I’ve tried to safely get it off this year by slightly cutting back on calories, but it’s not working (I’m mid 40s, female, so that may be why!). Last week, I finally decided to go ahead and do a 36 hour fast, and then I cut my maintenance calories in half while focusing on low fat, high protein to try to get as much protein as I can, and liver, since it’s so high in nutrition, and finally….. I’m _finally_ losing weight. 😅 I’m hoping that as long as I have some extra fat on me that my body can tap into that it’ll be okay. I’m also doing one day a week where I eat normally/feast so my metabolism hopefully doesn’t slow down. As soon as I drop the pounds, I’ll go back to my maintenance calories. EDIT: 3 weeks later-I am still losing weight (and inches in my waist), BUT I’ve discovered it’s not from lowering calories-it’s only after a 36 hour fast that I drop weight. I have since upped my calories back and am continuing to do a 36 hours fast about once a week (sometimes twice).
At what point should a person stop the recovery phase. I was low carb, keto, fasting for 2 years and gained weight back. I'm 300lbs and and what point can I lose safely. I've been In recovery for 8 months with not much progress.
@@tropicaoptica Hi! Yes, during this drastic calorie cut, I’m making sure to get in carbs as well (at least 50g but most days it’s closer to 100)-I don’t do well without them. Thanks for asking!
I can offer rice diet of walter kempner and croissant diet of the guy from the channel fire in a bottle. Those diets help manage weight even after a long time of undereating. The best food for rapid growth or rebuilding of body tissues theoretically is breast milk. It has very little protein and a lot of carbs (lactose is carbs.) So the rice diet and croissant diet mimic the composition of breast milk a bit. They all have things in common like low protein, high carb, some saturated fat. I would look at Mcdougall Diet as well. Low protein diet for some reason is important when the body has to build a lot of tissue. Like children have to. Weird.
@ElwinRobinson Why CO2 is an essential Nutrient that most people are deficient in: oxygen can only be delivered to mitochondria with the help of CO2. Lack of CO2 results in lack of oxygen (about blue lips and hands).
I wonder if someone who looks over-fat, but really had a lot of edema got a Dexa body scan (how much fat vs lean tissue), I wonder how edema would “show up” on the scan.
I think It really depends how your body responds. Just my two cents but increasing calories consciously by tracking is unintuitive at best, as I really do think when we intuitively eat which is all unconscious it is our body's way of maintaining energy balance i.e. being in caloric maintenance without having to track consciously. And if you lift weights at a moderate intensity this signals to the body to build muscle assuming the body is in a state of low stress to begin with i.e. eating intuitively, no over exercising, no pufa, eating nutrient dense foods, being in the sun, and when the body builds more muscle what does that mean? Yes your body slowly ramps up its metabolic rate and you'll naturally and intuitively eat more food throughout the day. Ps. I forgot to add proper and sufficient sleep and active relaxation throughout the day also helps with keeping cortisol, adrenaline low also helps build up that metabolic rate. Hope this helps
@@michaelcueva530 I think that would definitely be ideal - but a lot of people are really not in tune with hunger signals and tracking and recording some data can help ensure they are moving in the right direction.
What about someone who ate many calories but mainly junk foods? Now that I am eating healthier it’s very difficult to get to the desired calorie intake. Should I go slow too? Btw I never really dieted.
@@StrongSistas That's a good point, i think it'd be beneficial during such a process to try and learn right then and there also to try and tune in with ones own signals and hunger cues etc. i.e. stopping when your full, eating when hungry, and perhaps honoring cravings in an environment where it is setup so that you eat still nutrient dense food (so that you dont feel like you are imposing it on yourself), while doing the aforementioned things that lower stress
from this video I got this: so most fat people are those, who never finish refeeding process fully? they keep under eating until they start refeeding (overeating), and the repeat the cycle multiple times (jojo), never finishing full refeeding and never recovering fully.Thank you for very good podcasts.
I wonder what's the point you stop refeeding and recovery from LEA I've gained weight and its really concerning me it's been 8 months since I've started this approach. I'm 300lbs and very concerned
Yes exactly that. With each calorie restriction they damage their metabolism and so they get more and more obese with lower and lower metabolism. For example bodybuilders to the same thing, but they understand this process how the human body works. So after their diet/show is over they know how long they have to be in calorie surplus so their metabolism will go back to normal speed.. THey also don't overeat all the time. Those who know what they are doing they slowly decrease their calories during the diet so their metabolism slows down as little as possible and vise versa when they start eating again they add calories slowly to prevent excess fat gain.. Basically if I couach some obese person with slow metabolism first I would make sure he has plenty of good food coming in. I would add some exercise to build some muscles and for cardiovascular health and over months maybe even year their body will slowly end up for them on ideal weight without crazy stupid low calorie diets. THey will realize that it is not about some crash diet, but it is about changing life style for long term results.. Moving your body, eating whole food good quality diet etc.. Simply people who JoJo diet have no idea what they are doing.

Im averaging around 2500 calories a day and not sure if im seeing results. Lot of stretch marks on stomach and bloating. Been at recovery for 8 months and i feel like its not working
At 2,500 calories, I'd say no. It could be related to inflammation. Have you removed all PUFAs from your diet? It could also be certain types of fibers.
