I got my first " guilty dog" pose a couple of days ago-Travis ate MY BROWNIE. I left the room for 5 seconds, I saw it was gone. I know it's bad for them, there was nothing I could do at that point. I told him " did you eat my brownie?". His eyes were wide as saucers.

Im not sure how to explain, but for a golden retreiver, she has such a _feminine_ face. Ive seen thousands of golden retreivers over the years, but I could rarely tell a boy from a girl just by looking at their face. Harper is that rare one. What a sweetheart! 💜💜💋

Well, like Harper, all golden retreivers have eyelashes, plus their heads all have the same shape. Boy or girl. Its hard for me to explain- - I guess its because her head has a much rounder shape than what I see in the breed

This is why teaching you dog "drop it" and "leave it" at an early age is important.
Even if they 100% know the commands, sometimes they dont listen if they want what they have bad enough. Dogs arent automatons.

I taught my dog "leave it" to get her to drop whatever it is. Got her to drop a June bug last summer, also crap she picks up from the Culver's across the street, usually chicken bones.
Same! I have a 4 month old golden, and it's a work in progress. She listens on her own like, 6 outta 10 times. Mostly, it's been essential because she eats..... well, she likes to chew on and eat rocks 😧 We're getting there... Hopefully 😂
Pretty sure I'm going to be teaching my dogs "leave" and "drop" for the rest of their lives 😂😂
@melindarafuse1328 True lol. I think the main thing that helps with both commands is also teaching reaction control. When they learn no to react to every little whim, the fewer things they'll pick up to begin with. Maybe. Hopefully. That's my hope, lol.
I dont even know how to teach that to my dog, she rarely has anything in her mouth that is not the food we gave her 😅

My bud does the same thing but i taught him to drop and he found he actually got praised and such if he listened. Sooo to get attention he does that but its way easier now to get things outta his mouth.
I started with treats as an exchange... sorta. Like shake hands, but he can't eat the treats without what? ..lol.. see...
So ask him to drop .... then give him a treat... then widdle it down to tiny treats and funny loving affection. Now i don't NEED to give treats... he does it for attention so i offer it. He simply drops and gets his lovings...
Btw, mine is a Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound mix. Smaller but not a toy .. more like a IG but muscular built like a chi. Like a large chi with a sleeker build and longer snout like the IG
You did verry good to teach him that, it might save his life! Most people see it as a funny thing,but when the dogs get something dangerous in their mouths and the person has no control over the dog and it's unable to help him it's not fun and games anymore, sadly for many dogs it's one fatal mistake..
