The comic boarders just look like white lines placed on a background, not used well at all, unlike Comix Zone where you're actually moving between panels changing the scene.
Combat animations, movement animations need to be greatly improved. Also, the impact from blows to opponents is not felt at all, there is no impact at all.
The recommended specs for this are wild. RECOMMENDED: OS: Windows 10 / Windows 11 Processor: Intel Core i7-11700K / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Memory: 32 GB RAM Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 / AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT DirectX: Version 12 Storage: 40 GB available space Additional Notes: SSD Recommended This needs more power to run than Monster Hunter Wilds. 🤣
Funny how such an old game as Comix Zone is, looks and plays with so much more style and visual comic flair. My only beef with that game was the difficulty and never being able to get the good ending
I don't wanna rag on indie devs trying to break into the business but uh...'Comix Zone' from 1995, with all its Sega Genesis hardware limitation-glory, nailed the "comic" part of the title insanely well (and better) than this whatever unrelated "Comix" game this is.
The fact that is named COMIX zero is super misleading. Looks like it has nothing to do with the game that inspired it. The trailer leaves A LOT to be desired, mainly smoother animations and combat. Still interested to see where this project goes considering Comix Zone was such an amazing game with a killer soundtrack. These devs have some big shoes to fill to say the least.
I think if you make some kind of 2D imitating shader for 3D characters, make animations less frames with accenting frames and removing parallax effect(you don't need simulate depth on plane paper) then it will be fine. Everything else pretty nice.
If you just throw white stripes on top, like this is a comic window divider, it does not mean that the game is in the Comic Zone style. The video clearly shows that the background is uniform, there is no point in dividers. The animations are crap, especially the entire combat. Only the art design of the locations is beautiful.
00:26 Game looks interesting, reminds me of "Viewtiful Joe" for the GameCube. The sound effects could use better sound and the combat needs polishing, other than that it has potential. The icing on the cake would be to have a coop option and character selection with an upgrade skill tree system and this will be a solid title.
The art is cool, it just shouldn't try to copy Comix Zone by doing the bare minimum. Otherwise, it looks like an interesting, although quite genetic, metroidvania.
So... Not related to comix zone? Maybe as close as we'll get, but if there was ever a true sequel or remake i would hope they keep it hand drawn. This might be fun, but the animations look a bit stiff.
As much as I love seeing forgotten Sega IPs getting love this looks rough. Levels look empty, too large for single comic panels. The panel dividers seem just randomly placed more like an overlay and less like you're actually hoping through a comic book. Backgrounds give off an "AI" vibe (you know how a lot of AI art has that weird glossy look to it now?). It just seems closer to a concept than a finished game. :/
Drama in two acts: 1) Try to hype on top of a Comix Zone. 2) Get buried. Comparing to Comix Zone, non-comix zero is disgusting in absolutely everything: 1) Music is Zero out of ten. (sorry) 2) Artstyle is all over the place and at the same time out of place. It's not "comix" at all. As if there was a typical 3/10 mass-made metroidvania/platformer (like we don't already have thousands of them on a steam store shelf, sold $1 a dozen), but then authors decided that they won't earn a thing selling it (and they were right) and then they decided to invent something new (by taking whatever is lost but not forgotten). Slapping "comix" paint on top of a mediocre product won't make it better. 3) Animation (and combat) can be considered as a part of an artstyle, be I want to mention them separately. They are bad. Instead of hand-drawing each and every character frame by frame (like it was made in Comix Zone), what they are trying to feed us is just your standard model-with-animation-over-it trash. 4) What the heck parallax scrolling is doing in here? Have you seen one in Comix Zone? Me neither. And it's not a platform limitation. There was a multi-layer parallax in Sonic 3. Same platform, different STYLEs. And parallax is definitely NOT a part of a comix style. As if modern game makers are not playing games. In this case, as if there was that one guy who told dev team how cool comix zone was, and their half-finished half-baked product should be, wormtonguing them towards "better" product. Obviously noone on a team has any time to play an "inspiration". Eureka. PRODUCT. Just another one. This one - sloppily "comix" painted.
Thought this was a new Comix Zone. Now I'm salty...
@@IIIOldSchooLIII Definitely what they're trying to do here with Mortus' hand appearing on screen with the pen, and slashing the comic panels.
Same, I’m pissed
No lie
Um it technically is.. just different
Same...
I thought this was a sequel to comix zone at first
@@MR-_-LIGHTNER I did too!!
The comic boarders just look like white lines placed on a background, not used well at all, unlike Comix Zone where you're actually moving between panels changing the scene.
They're kinda going for Comix Zone, but the original still looks snappier, faster, more stylish and with way memorable tunes
Sega should have the devs behind Streets of Rage 4 remake Comix Zone or make a sequel.
Lizardcube, the people that worked on Streets of Rage 4, are busy doing a new Shinobi for Sega
@@patricknguyen7530 Saw the leaked trailer, it's awesome
@@patricknguyen7530 That sounds so amazing I'm wetting my pants for that combination of developer and legacy game :O
Those combat animations need to be cleaned up pronto.
my concern as well lmao
looks fine to me
It not even just rough looking it just looks incredibly boring. But the art is really cool
@@djam7484 no it doesn't his weapon swings are WAY to stiff.
Looks fine to me. I honestly don't know what the problem is
Combat animations, movement animations need to be greatly improved. Also, the impact from blows to opponents is not felt at all, there is no impact at all.
"We have Comix Xone at home."
The combat of Comix Zone at home:
Looks good besides the combat feels like it has no impact
Exactly. Comix zone still looks and sounds way snappier and more impactful
I thought it was just me. I want to like this too, but the combat animations seem dull
yep, they need to fix the hit boxes
Somehow comix zone from 30 years ago looks better, than this one.
Comix zone vibes
@@bellzon5386 exactly 💯
Yep, clearly their biggest inspiration. Looking forward to this.
That’s what I read it as at first
no doubt. this trailer makes me want to dig out the genesis and play right now
Somehow still nowhere near as good even after all this time

This needs more power to run than Monster Hunter Wilds. 🤣
They really need that 20-series for the AI generated backgrounds. 💀
And I thought I would be able to play it in mobile with emulator 😢
If this is going for Comix Zone vibes, it needs to add a LOT more impact to those hits.
Funny how such an old game as Comix Zone is, looks and plays with so much more style and visual comic flair. My only beef with that game was the difficulty and never being able to get the good ending
this looks like a game theyd have on in the background on a tv in a movie
Every attack animation needs to be sped up and you need to implement hit stop or this game will be doa.
Wow, this came out of nowhere. Loved comix zone on sega.
waiting for SEGA lawsuit against whoever made that parody of a game
Comix Zone: Now it’s your turn.
Comix Zero: 🥲
We need Comix Zone Remake
If this is another roguelike, i fvcking swear.
We deserved an actual Comix Zone reboot. This is neat, but a new Comix Zone would have been preferred
The actual use of Comic Sans MS is killing me. And the misspelled Mortal Kombat feels like a slap in the face rather than a nice homage.
Animations especially on hit could use some polish but this does look fun. We should be supporting more indies
So not Comix Zone… oh well 😞
I can see the references, but comix zone is really a once in a lifetime gem
Im glad im not the only one who misread this as “Comix Zone”
Handdrawn backgrounds but 3D characters... why not go full comics?
Interesting modern day Comix zone

Combat hit detection, sound effects, and added stagger to hits needs to be updated like now.
Manga Zone?
Let's have a real Comix Zone.
Im glad they are making a similar game to Comix Zone, but this needs a lot of polishment
The fact that is named COMIX zero is super misleading. Looks like it has nothing to do with the game that inspired it. The trailer leaves A LOT to be desired, mainly smoother animations and combat.

We have Comix Zone at home...
Comix zone is back!!! Hope the difficulty is easier
A spiritual successor to Comix Zone except slow looking.
this just makes me to look for comix zone, i never get to play that properly back then.
The actions need a little more snap to them. They look a little sluggish.
This looks like alot of fun!!! I would so want to play it
Please dont let it be as punishingly difficult as comix zone 😅
Wow taking one of the most stylish games of all time and turning it into a generic Metroidvania. Good job.
animations look a bit stiff but i like the inspiration of comic zone and the design of the main character
A COMIX ZONE LOOSE SEQUEL PERHAPS? COUNT ME IN!!!
For an action-oriented game, the action is hella flaccid
I think if you make some kind of 2D imitating shader for 3D characters, make animations less frames with accenting frames and removing parallax effect(you don't need simulate depth on plane paper) then it will be fine. Everything else pretty nice.
Waiting for pre-order, game of my childhood
Is this the Comic zone 2 I always wanted
No
Something fresh
0:11 that certainly looks like suigetsu’s sword from shippuden
Am I the only one that just flat out thinks that this is cool? I mean, sure, it could use some polish here and there but this rules!

I Hope Release on Console
@@M_Rangers it is coming to console its really small bottom right is where the water marks are at end of trailer
I love the effort but it doesn't go far enough in presenting that comic aesthetic.

Having 3D animations with the comic book gimmick was pretty dumb
I'll probably get this

comix zone looks even more like a comic book and its been done like a 150years ago lol
protagonists jogs like he's gotta poop

Comix Zone was the ish.
Because of comic zone .... ❤
Other than a few elements here and there, this doesn't look like a comic style. They need to go back to the drawing board, pun intended.
