Look them up, they were the best of the best. I only saw him once in San Francisco... playing as an opening band for some Country singer I never heard of. Just him and a conga player.

I love this show. I was the Front of House audio engineer for this. I subsequently released an all JJ Cale tribute CD titled Dewey Paul presents CALE (2012), 16 tracks mastered by Vinton Fountain, who was actually the monitor engineer on this show. Just an interesting historical tid bit for you. Although parts of this show were filmed by a German film crew and included in the 'To Tulsa And Back' documentary, the source of this mix was from the front of house soundboard. I remember this because of the fade in on Call Me The Breeze. This happened because the master was direct to a Tascam CDRW-5000 burner patched from the Soundcraft Series IV console. I didn't get the second disc in the burner ready on time and missed the beginning of Breeze... I faded it in after I hit record. -Dew )
That's great, Dewey! You seem to have put everything "up front" in this mix, if this UA-cam upload is your mix. The great "live" mixes always are best served by putting everything "up front". I'm not an engineer. What's great about JJ Cale is that he just did his own thing, he let it rip and wasn't interested in becoming famous. This show sounds great because everything feels "up front" so it captures the essence of a great show. When you are at a great show, every comes at you, sonically, so it makes sense to just shove everything at the listener. God bless the engineers! Rock on JJ, rock on everyone...
Unbelieveable guy and to many people don't know of him. Been hooked ever since buying Okie when it was first released. Time and moves meant I only kept the best 100 of my vinyls Okie is one of them. This live session is fantastic and the recording balance, for a live session, brilliant. God Okie was released 50 years ago and I was 25.
Eric Clapton has always openly admired JJ Cale!!! Why wouldn't he? John's music is unique as is Eric's. when they play together the ambience & synchronisation is miraculous!!! When I was an 8 year old kid in boarding school I had to be able to say 'Eric Clapton is the lead guitarist of Cream, with Ginger Baker & Jack Bruce' Failure resulted in severe beatings! Wasn't difficult to learn but at that stage in my life I handed tubbled across JJ! When I did I was enthralled.. have great respect for both musicians and associates. Fantastic that, at 60 I can still get great pleasure from what is truly heartfelt soul music e Ben tho' it's the blues & nothing but the blues!
Asher said " never get tired ", I'll say " always get high and free " by listening , and we share the same admiration for this Great Artist, this beautiful travelling musician !!!
The sound is exquisite. There is no video. Just sound. But a great concert by one of the greatest guitarists ever and his band. So pure. Enjoy the music here.
