      witch basically means you so much as throw in one os those useless uniques , even ubber uniques and you can kiss 13k armor good bye, this dev team has to take the door seriouslly, they suck, (15x crit damage to vulnerable enemies while beserking) is ridiculous

      When you look at this graph, think of it this way 85% to 42.5% is taken damage drops by half, 42% to 21% is 50% damage reduction, 21-10.5% is 50% damage
      Level 17-25 cuts damage in half, Level 25-37 damage in half again, 37-57 damage in half... then its slower where the game is harder.
      Honestly, the entire thing is just scaling the characters to be weaker while you optimize your gear. Designers could have just focused on technique changes & tactics and added content to make the end game longer. Like ability to expand castles and towns, support units. Need a much larger map though.

      This is great.
      But I'm at 78% poison resistance and the poison in tier 100 dungeons is still ripping me faster than I can heal, even when I trigger iron skin it still rips me so hard.
      Is there no way to stop this from happening?

    Thank you! A handy rule of thumb I picked up from this and a few other similar vids: You'll need ~9.2k armor to hit the cap against lvl 100 enemies (NM Tier 46), and you'll need ~13.3k armor to hit the cap against lvl 154 enemies (NM Tier 100). As you work your way up NM tiers, scale up your armor a reasonable amount between the two to stay in a comfortably tanky zone.

      To leapfrog onto this, it seems like adding roughly 80 more armor for every further Tier of Nightmare sigil after Tier 46 (i.e. where you first encountered level 100 enemies) should be the rate to go for, in order to reach this 13.5Kish cap by T100
      In other words: if you are currently completing a Tier 66 Nightmare Dungeon, that is 20 more Tiers of an increase above the beginning T46. So you now need around 20x80 = 1,600 more armor from the beginning total of 9.2K
      This is achievable from either good “+Armor%” rolls on your gear affixes, simple Royal Skulls slotted into your jewelry sockets, or even just the grey +Armor Elixir which I believe boosts something like 900? points at the highest elixir quality

    hardest part to choose when u find new 920 gear with bigger armor but old armor was with more Damage reduction from ranged etc

      ideally you want both, this is why we need a loot filter that allows item power and stats to be chosen and that autoflags such items as Favorite, so we spend less time in inventory management

      ​@corpsefoot758 there is a setting you can turn on that tells you all kinds of extra info, including that. It's not default so you have to go turn it on.

    I needed this this! Thank you. I’m running around at lvl 100 with 7394 armor and doing “ok”. Solo killed all the bosses, but nightmare dungeons at 75 and above have been tough. I’m running Disobedience with stacks to 60%, but didn’t know why sometimes I could take a hit and other times get a one-shot kill to my dude. Now I know why!

      Make sure that your Disobedience is on your Amulet.

      It depends on your character/build, but generally you want your “multiplicative” damage aspects on your amulet and two-handed weapons in order to get the largest boost out of them (since the assumption is that Armor won’t be too difficult to amass for you even with base-level legendary aspects)
      A very common legendary aspect on amulets for ranged rogues could be the “Edgemaster’s” aspect, for example

    My favorite part of this video is the timing where he says "you don't have to get one shot from off screen by a crossbow" as his rogue literally almost gets one shot by a crossbow from off screen.

    Does it apply before or after armor calculation and does it apply on the total damages you take?

      I did the math and since it is both percentages it actually doesn't matter which one applies first.
      Still I wonder if damage reduction applies to all the damage in put...

      1000*0.8= 800; 800*0.5= 400.
      That's how I calculate it but of course I can be wrong

    I can say only one thing for high tier nightmare dungeons... I hate snakes... Cap or no cap, these beings are no joke. Damage Reduction is also a must, not only armor. At least it says reducing damage after armor.

      No issues with snakes, the off screen Arrow attacks are the worst

      @@fredsmodel3n192, nah... They rarely hit and are very slot... On top of that, if you listen carefully, you can hear them aiming and shooting their slow projectile and you can evade it. Train this on lower tiers. Not hard to understand and achieve. Also check your dodge chance... They may even not damage you when they hit you.

    This type of information is super valuable for all players. I'm a HC exclusive player in all games that have it (always have been). Most all other videos just cry damage damage damage damage, but none of them are Hardcore players.
    Unless you're building for HC endgame (even in soft-core), you're running a gimmick build exploiting one thing and ironically, eventually get one-shot.
    Anyway, thanks for this... seems like they to model defenses after PoE's system to a large degree.

    Everyone is referencing this now. This is foundational stuff. I have 13.4K armor via Total Armor While in Werewolf Form, so now I know I can dump Disobedience for Vigorous. Thank you for all your research!

      @@metalskelly They are 99% of the time not rewards, and there are too many of them if you play high level content. It is not about lazyness, it is about tediousness. If I knew that in every inventory there would be a good reward I would be happy to do it, but there is one in 50 or 100 inventories.

    I didn’t read all of the comments but the resistances attached to amulet and rings has break points related to item power, so you want at least I believe 900 or above item power on those in order to obtain the most resistance out of them as possible.

    Trying Necro for the first time this season and running a minion, deathspeaker pendant, thorn build I've thrown together and having fun with it. This gives me great info to help build towards (my dude's usually in the mix with the skelly party) so thank you very much.

      There’s a build that will make your minims beast mode and strong, you will also need that unique ring for minions. Good luck with your build. I started a new Necro myself but I’m not going minions yet.

    Super helpful video dude! I hope to see more content like this from you. Even in regular build videos, I would love to hear your rationale on why you choose some aspects over others. I've been wondering why I hadn't seen Disobedience in your Death Trap build vs Twisting Blades, and hearing your logic at the end was very insightful!

    I figured Armor was more valuable this season but I didn't realize just how much. I personally think they should un-nerf Disobedience; It feels like a wasted Aspect at the moment especially for Barbarians. It was completely busted before and needed nerfing, but now that it only provides physical defense it should be safe to restore it.
    Also protip: Total Armor is a wasted affix on Barbarians, but extremely good on Sorcerer and Necromancer as they are both INT based; Bsrb and Rogue (much more so Barb) will naturally stack STR givinf them more armor anyway, and I'm not familiar with Druid but they must have some stuff that boosts it.

      @@corpsefoot758 Generally yes, but STR isn't completely useless to them since it does affect their resource gain on top of boosting armor.
      To be perfectly honest though I'm seriously at how the blue stat nodes on Paragon Boards are only +7 and not +8 (means you have to waste a point on those 25 thresholds) and it's NEVER a mainstat.

      I’m currently aiming for both a +All Stats and +Dexterity combo on both my bow and my sword (the other blade is Condemnation), so STR and INT hunting isn’t too stressful outside of the +7 Paragon annoyance that you mentioned
      But yeah, I don’t chase STR outside of that situation and my resource gain is much more heavily assisted by jewelry aspects and affixes anyway 🤷‍♂️
      Now I’m just trying to figure out which damn aspects to slot onto Helmet and Pants, since the Andariel/Temerity combo is a lunatic’s fantasy lol

    Explanation is very clear. What messes me up is on top of the hell of affixes we have, we now have to be even more lucky when getting gear, to try and max out resistances. It's a bit moronic in my opinion...

    Strength buffs armor value and skill damage. If you're a barbarian, you should have one aspect of each armor piece directed at improving strength. Easy way to buff both DR and damage output.

    @wudijo I am a sorc with Shako, Melted Heart of Selig, and Temerity.
    That means I'm getting an outrageous amount of mitigation and stay healthy nearly 100% of the time. Do u still recommend armor cap just to make sure I never lose barrier or mana?
    I can do Uber lilith and 100s at 94

      @@fredsmodel3n192 thanks! It's between the 100 and 150 gap. I can check when I'm back on. The build is focused on staying healthy and uses the damage while healthy glyph to take advantage of the fact that this is one of the only good willpower glyphs. Also max mana nodes to give 50% crit to ball for 2 casts via elemental mastery (over 150 mana)
      All other non unique aspects buff damage with a barrier which has 100% uptime. may post a guide because w paragon bc I think it's near perfect.

    Just to clarify. This requires bonus health stat on rings and at least 1 piece of armor. Minimum 2 (usually 3) bonus armor and/or specific resist stats (depending on class). Extra damage reduction stats on gear. Them gem your rings to fill the defensive you're lacking. Plus all 3 defensive gear pieces are required to have armor and usually health as well as the remainder other defensive stats. Then required to have defensive aspects. What's the point in having uniques for these slots??? The only notable one with defense on it is the helm. And whats the point in having all the non defensive stats on these 3 pieces of gear (helm, chest, pants) when the defensive are basically required to survive late game even when you take the majority of additional defensive from your skill tree and paragon boards. The balance is so off. You either CC and delete everything before it had a chance to do anything or you scramble to stay alive. This game (and blizzard games in general) are either one extreme or the other. They've always been so bad at balancing incoming and outgoing damage

    I have 15,850 armor, 13k life and all resistances maxed on my Sorceress and still getting 1 shot in T100 dungeons. I can face tank Uber Lilith and Duriel but get one shot by a normal mob, non-elite, usually by elemental ranged. I have various types of damage reduction that, if stack, would put me at 80% -100% damage reduction, depending on procs. -24% burning, -24% chilled, -18% elites, etc... Not sure what else to do.

    I have a good chest and legs but they're sacred, the lack of armor is something I've noticed. Can't wait for for higher base replacements, though idk how different damage reduction affixes affect my overall survival, like would a bunch of armor be better than like 15% DR from close/distant etc.

      So DR is applied after Armor is. So that 15% from close/range is applied after the DR from Armor. So both is very helpful. Just make sure you are getting the 85% from Armor for the content you are doing and then work on the DR conditional affixes.

    I am combining these 2 builds currently, and it's really fun but I am a little confused which unique's and aspects to go for (also skills/passives). And also Paragon board is a bit of a struggle to figure out as well.

    Interesting. They fixed the tooltip with 1.2.1. I have 9500 and am level 100 and it now shows 85%.

      Hi, I'm in the same situation and it doesn't matter if I have armor 10600 or 11.960 - it's still level 85,
      I just hope it's a bug that gets fixed quickly because now the armor protection is significantly weaker.

    So for an aspect would you rather have armor gain or 15 to 20% dmg reduction?

      It depends. Gotta know that identical sources of DR stack multiplicatively. So the first instance of lets say distant damage reduction is insanely strong, the second portion is significantly worse and the third usually sucks. So if its between a %armor roll and the first instance of one of the good DR affixes, go for the DR instead. Otherwise, take the armor.

    funny how this video came out today, and today they finally fixed the UI bug when mousing over armor value on your char inventory screen... now it shows 85% cap instead of the bugged 100% it has been showing in-game since the alpha/beta... just serendipitous timing that Wudi released an Armor video the same day Armor UI bug got fixed lol

    first video in of diablo 4 creators to mention why you get destroyed in T100. most videos are "look at my build, look at my uber uniques, look at my dps" not one video explains they dont die because they have twice the armor you do.

    Total Armors = Helm + Chest + Pants + Amulet BUT S2 builds require too many Uniques! esp. Amulet's Total Armor + Movement Speed is rarest combination for my rogue.

    So where does damage reduction % fit in? Is that calculated after armor/resistance is considered? And does regular DR% stack with DR from close/far? I had an amulet with all 3 and wasn’t sure the lower plain DR did anything

      Order of operation doesn't matter, since armor/resistances are basically also %damage reduction at the end point and they're all stacking multiplicatively with each other, meaning that you'll get the same end result regardless of which one comes first.
      Yes, they stack multiplicatively with each other, so if you have, let's say, X "plain DR" and Y close DR, enemy in close range will deal damage times (1-X)*(1-Y) to you.

    Great video. Blizzard needs to rethink the way the display these resistances. Why show 70% as max if it is actually 85%. And why do they show 100% physical reduction if the cap is actually 85%. This is the type of BS UX design that only software engineers can love. Give us the correct numbers please. Same thing with nightmare dungeons. Show us the how much the EXP bonus is when we rollover the item. We should not have to go to the forums or third party websites to kinda sorta get the answer we need, sorta.

      So the Armor DR does need to be reworded to reflect what's actually going on but the Resistance caps are self explanatory. The Res cap on GEAR is 70%, however if you drink an Elixir of Poison Res, you can go beyond 70% but only up to 85%.

    PSA: The latest patch (31-OCT-2023) seems to have adjusted the tool tip when hovering over armor. It went from telling me: "Reduces Physical damage... by 100%" to: "Reduces Physical damage... by 85%". I doubt anything fundamentally changed, just corrected a display issue.

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Best video ever and now I know why my Sorcerer isn’t too Tanky at level 100 and I can not survive Tier 100 as much. Now I know what to improve. I should roll for plus to Armor. Now my Attack is 18,000 or so but I heard attack isn’t right. Also does the Health need to be specifically higher? What would be ok like 13,000 health?

      Did the same on my druid some time ago since I have werewolf armor on boots and amulet, cleared the T100 much faster this way.
      If you stay in shit and face tanks many elites you will die no matter how much armor you have, no elite has only physical damage.
      I didn't know about 13.3k max armor DR, I was running around 14k, I can optimize somehow around that number.

      Literally the same way he does, by opening the Stats and Materials tab when you're in your Character tab. It's right underneath the red Profile button. Press whatever the button shows for your console and then d-pad/control stick down to Armor in the Defensive category.
      If you've played this game for any amount of time and have never opened that tab, not only do I feel sorry for you but you also deserve to be slapped. 😂

It also doesn't even matter because even if it did show, it only shows it for up to level 100 monsters. The only Armor DR values that matter are against level 101+ monsters, which NO ONE can see, not even Wudi. Nobody should be caring about Armor DR against monsters level 100 or below. What he's showing is Armor DR against level 100 monsters and below.

      @@eagleotto2527 How would it be useful? It literally only shows the DR when fighting monsters EQUAL to your level. So unless you are going to spend the rest of your time ONLY fighting monsters EXACTLY at your level, the information would be useless to you. He is level 100, so that DR value is ONLY for level 100 monsters. No one can see any value beyond level 100, not even PC players.
      There is no way to calculate DR for monsters lower than your level, higher than you level or higher than level 100 monsters. All we know is the goalpost, which is 13.3k Armor if you plan on going to T100 NMD. So, instead of whining about a feature that PC players have that doesn't even do much for any of them pushing beyond T47 NMDs (Level 101 monsters), just be thankful that you know what to aim for, 13.3k armor. 13.3k armor is the only value that you need to care about.

    IMO D3 still has the best mechanics for resistances and armor: the more you have, the better your EHP. Itemization for armor is crappy there though, but the core concept is much better than these noobtraps with caps.

    Question for Wudi and community. 😊 If at 12k armour you’re already at 85% damage reduction cap, why is there a need to go up to 15k armour? I thought when it mentions “85% capped” damage reduction, any armour more than 12k that you have are redundant?

      the tooltip shows dmg reduction against monsters of your level, for higher level monsters you need more (there's a formula for it but not displayed in game)
