    New pool owner and learning fast. I had balanced my pool’s pH level and a week later found that it had gone up to 8.1.
    I had constantly been running the waterfall, so now it makes sense!
    Will check again after not running the waterfall.

    Awesome! This podcast outlined about 3 reasons why my ph keeps going high without adding acid.

    Hi- my Alkalinity runs at about 80. PH is always high at 8 or 8.1. CyA about 140. Chlorine pool. Adding Muratic will bring down PH and TA. Adding Sodium Bicarb to bring TA back up. But PH stays high I guess because of waterfalls that I have to run for circulation reasons. Any suggestions?

      Add borates to 50 ppm. Drop the pH to 7.6 and the add Boric Acid Powder. If you Google "adding borates with boric acid powder" you will find my video on it.

      Turn down the waterfalls.

    The alkalinity in my pool is just rediculous. I dumped a whole bag of ph down in a 5,000gal intex pool over 2 days and it'll kind of go down for a minute but within 48 hours, sky high again. I'm gonna put half a gallon of the weaker acid in today. And check it and see because oh my dear sweet Lord...

      When it is over 200 it will buffer extremely well. Might need to drain some water and fill with fresh water.

    I have a 10,000 gallon salt pool and I regularly have to add 2 cups a week of muratic acid. I’m told it’s normal for salt pools. It runs at 20% - 40% and the pump runs 12 hours in a gunite finish

      I would reccommmend 1/2 -1/4 gallon of acid once a week w/ 100 Alk level should be fine.

    Great information on the strength percentage of the Muriatic Acid I've been purchasing from various stores. I've been having that exact issue of rising PH not going away. This started once I switched to liquid chlorine in-lieu of the 3" tabs about 3 years ago. We do have a water feature on our pool also.

    • @BelieverStarcraft
      @BelieverStarcraft 2 роки тому

      liquid chlorine is basic and will riase ur PH naturally.

      Try adding borates to 50 ppm to help control the pH. It is very effective.

      @@SPL I'm thinking about going back with the 3" tabs just to keep the pool's PH more stable. I'll probably have no more than two tabs in the floater at a time to avoid the CYA issues I've had with the tabs in the past.

    Adding calcium hypochlorite chlorine is always raising my pH. I had followed it with muriatic acid with 1 hour interval to lower my pH. Can muriatic acid reduce chlorine?

    • @SPL
      @SPL  2 роки тому

      Not technically. But if the pH is in the 7.2 zone it may use up the chlorine faster.

    I want to add boric acid to my pool but my CYA is at 81 do I need to get it down to 50 before adding or is it okay to add at current levels? I’m using trychlor tablets currently for my sanitizer and CalHypo for shock in a pebble pool.

    • @SPL
      @SPL  2 роки тому

      You are fine at 81. Just add the borates.

    If CYA can lower my pH. It will stay on that pH? Or will it rise naturally? Or if I add borax to rise pH it will come back to lower pH cause cya is not evaporate?

    • @SPL
      @SPL  2 роки тому +1

      It won't lower it unless you are using 3" tablets consistently. CYA will not evaporate regardless of the pH level.

    • @jaxpoolboy
      @jaxpoolboy 2 роки тому +1

      No, the cya is acidic, but this only really affects pH upon addition. Besides it's role in bicarbonate alkalinity cyanuric acid does not affect pH directly outside the addition of the chemical itself, no long term effects on pH though.

    • @petersalls4083

      Ph will always rise naturally, but it will level off at some point above 8.0.

    So obviously ph is the easiest to adjust to adjust lsi so I get your point of keeping ph in range to obtain a balnced Lsi.
    But our issue is we service a lot of new pools under warranty and if we keep our pools out of the ideal range warranty is voided.
    Do you have any other recommendations?

    • @Superbpooservice
      @Superbpooservice 2 роки тому +1

      My next question is. If you rely on adjusting ph over alkalinity or calcium to achieve a balance Lsi doesn’t adding borates to the water make this more difficult?
