- I have finally found a touring rig that covers all bases for alternative/indie guitar styles. This video was filmed on tour and I wanted to just give a breakdown of my rig and what I’ve settled on.
Let me know in the comments what you think!

Its encouraging to see a band that sound as good as yourselves can tour with amps that dont cost £3k and pedalboars that arent like a jet cockpit. I think there is a rawness and an energy in what you do and that filters down to your gear too. It shows you dont need to spend £1000's to sound massive! Keep doing what you do!
Thanks so much mate. I think it’s probably just diminishing returns once you get past a certain point. Like I think once you’re dealing with ‘pro level’ gear anything more expensive is probably just a luxury.
Hah! Finally got the name of your band. :-) Gonna give you lads a proper listen now. By the way, I'm really enjoying your chill guitar nerdery videos and I generally appreciate your effort not to make the band a central focus of the channel. That can be lame when overdone. But I will say that I have been curious for a few weeks now. I think it's okay to mention the name every once in a while.
Ahh thanks so much! Yeah, to be honest I should probably have mentioned it in this video actually as I was on tour haha. But yeah, it’s a balance I wanna make sure I get right! 🤘
Very interesting. Agree about the importance of having spares. My spare amp is the EHX Howitzer. No spare cab though, since the Howitzer has line out.
Yeah same here, if my head goes down I can plug into the Blackstar cab from the amped one, and if the cab goes down I can xlr out straight into mixing desk.
Saw u live at Dover on Wednesday, awesome gig and love the vids
Thanks so much mate!!
Love stuff like this, great tips
Thanks so much!
I really like your channel and just recently discover your band, keep it up with the good content
Thanks mate. Ahh thanks, so glad you’re enjoying it!
Love your channel man!
Thanks mate!
What a gem of a video, enjoyed every minute of it! Great to see the legendary van featured, love the new catch phrase too 💪
Thanks so much Daria!
Quickly becoming my favorite channel.👍
Thanks mate!
excellent video mate!
Thanks so much!
A jazzmaster with a Biggs is a great idea.
The jag/jazzmaster tremolo systems have been known to not have the greatest tuning stability and are annoying to maintain. I haven’t owned one so I don’t actually know. I love all the offsets I have a fender duosonic and a squire HH mustang for simplicity and I like the shorter scale length.
Love your channel...keep it up also my origin 50 is a champ completely agree
Thanks mate. Yeah it’s a beast isn’t it.
I can definitely recommend using amp sims (with built in cab and mic sims) on stage - super compact, less potential points of failure, no mic’ing needed. Whether it’s the Strymon Iridium, Walrus ACS1, UA Dream or Boss IR200, they all sound pretty good and the venue’s sound tech will thank you
Hmmm I’m with you but… particularly in the small venues a lot of the sound can come from stage and if you’ve got a drummer I personally would rather have a full amp setup balanced with the drums before it even hits front of house PA.
And one more thing…. When I go and see bands, there’s something so special when all the amps get setup on flight cases etc that really adds to the production of a show. I think sometimes as musicians we can forget that it isn’t necessarily always just about sound!
@@thesethingsmakenoiseslol light jab.. but mate I don’t think your band ever forgets it’s not always about sound, image seems to be a huge part
Hey, sorry this wasn’t meant as a dig at all. It’s just from watching bands myself. I once stayed for about an hour after The Horrors set at glastonbury just to watch them pack the amps and pedals away and wish I could be up there with all that cool gear!
@@thesethingsmakenoises sorry I’m just being a dick lol
I would have added the Sonic youth guys ... great list, and thanks for including dinosaur Jr he's my hero
Excellent video as usual. I've learned so much from your channel. Based upon your gear set, I'm ready to HIT THE ROAD!!!!! All I need is a second Muff pedal. 😉 Where do I sign up?!?!? Cheers!!
Hahaha that’s awesome!!!
Your new Jag is 2014 Modern player with added pickguard. Originally it comes without it. Very cool guitar for the price originally and still even now. Never mind the Crafted in China... It was actually made in the original Squier China Factory
Ahh thanks so much for the info. Yeah the original owner actually made the pickgaurd themselves! And I didn’t mention but I believe they upgraded the pickups too.
It’s an awesome guitar for sure.
i’m guessing id have to buy one second hand from ebay or reverb? my favourite style of guitar is the jaguar and i’ve been looking to get a guitar with p90s for a while now, so they seem like the perfect choice
@@liape3699 Yes, I dont know why they do not make these models anymore. Honestly it is not as expenisve and they are beccoming a collectible so if you have the money I can only second your choice
The one detail you missed is that if you have a good amp everyone in the other bands you're playing with wants to use it for their set.
Hahaha literally mate! We normally just stipulate cabs and drum shells only if we’re headlining as your stuff just gets ruined on a whole tour otherwise.
@@thesethingsmakenoises The funniest thing I've had to deal with was when the person using my bass amp didn't realize it wasn't on.
@@GregBonks😂😂
As far as base sound goes, I'd argue that the amp and speaker combo are more important than the guitar( pickup) choice. If you don't like an amp, try changing the speaker, but,- if you find that even this doesn't fix the problem, -no amount of pedals will help.
I switched to small amp heads and cabs long ago; addresses weight issues, and offers broader flexibility while also providing better sound than a combo.
Yeah I think you’re right for sure!
pretty informative!! do you like/use DI boxes for connecting to the PA system?
All the guitar amps get mic’d up straight into the snake but the bass has a Di feed going to a Di box. 😊
Love your content brother, keep it coming. Nice chatting as well
Thanks so much mate ✌️
Absolute killer vids, you're probably my favorite guitar UA-camr right now
Thanks so much mate!
This video is perfect for people new to gigging
Thanks so much mate.
Origin 50 rules. Takes pedals super well, although the EQ is a bit janky - using the tilt is super important.
Yeah it’s a beast isn’t it. I was actually speaking to a sound engineer about that while I was away. You’re right for sure. Also, I think the dials feel a little cheap when you turn them, but who cares!
Holds tuning very well? I must've been using a defective Bigsby on my Eastwood Airline Deluxe. 🤔
Yeah it really does. Although the previous owner had put one on the Jaguar (retrofit) when I bought it and it was terrible. So maybe it’s really dependent?
I've heard that changing the spring helps a lot with keeping a bigsby in tune.
you have to restring and make sure the strings are perfectly straight where they go round the back of the bigsby from the bridge. then once you've got them on, turn up. Murder the tuning by pushing down the bigsby and strumming the open strings. Retune, Kill the Tuning. Retune, kill the tuning. Just rinse and repeat the more you do it you'll notice the less it pulls it out of tune. It'll never be perfect but doing this and not abusing the bigsby (nice little warbles no divebombs) and it will hold tuning quite well. Maybe add some thicker strings if there's no luck.
@@thesethingsmakenoises maybe yes it depends on the item. You're lucky you have a good one i guess.
@@ReprobateMind i don't do divebombs but thanks. Very tedious but thanks anyway.
backup power cables etc never knw when a transformer pedal power or just cables go missing or fry. de oxit, strings extras ,tools .and gaffers tape all off the top of my head ..flashlight...
All great shouts! Pretty much covered in that peli box. I forgot to mention we have a spare dc brick between all 3 of us (2 gtr 1 bass)
Why do you have a tuner at the end of the chain?
Ahh I use it as a kill switch! There’s a tuner in the wireless I use if I want to use quickly tune if I don’t want to turn all the pedals off, but to be honest even before I had that I still put my tuner in that position and just turned off the fuzz etc when tuning.
Just wanted to say you've got an impeccable taste in cola!
Ahhh yeaaahhhhh!!!! Get me back to Germany ASAP it’s honestly my favourite!
So After all Whats the Name of your Band?🌞 im Probably the Last askin That but i still didnt find it on your Channel….i know im gonna like the music already
His band called October drift my all time favorite band absolutely amazing and the nicest guys!! 💙
@@joshuajcbc5466 thanks m8!!
Yeah it’s October Drift!
@@thesethingsmakenoises really enjoyed the LP I dont belong anywhere, Great music man Hope i get the Chance to see you guys live somewhere in europe🤌🏽
Thanks so much mate! We’re playing some shows in France in November, but we should be back out next year.
Can't go wrong with a spair fuzz pedal, amiright???!
Exactly!!
😒 P r o m o S M
Not sure what this means.
"What Makes A Great Touring Guitar Rig!" HSS Strat, Helix Floor.
Haha fair enough, but you don’t get to play around endlessly with different pedals!
@@thesethingsmakenoises Yeah, actually you do, and that's the point. You have an innumerable amount of perfectly cloned pedals, amps, and cabs that you'd never be able to afford otherwise all right at your disposal. Dream Rig achieved.
@@JediCrackSmokeFair play! I have nothing to come back with except I just love how the pedals all look and feel 😂😂
