    Eli Wallach was almost killed in real-life doing this movie. When he was laying on the side of that train track with the chain on the track, when the train went past, a wooden step on the train just missed his head. When the bridge was blown-up near the end of the film, Sergio Leone went mad because when the bridge was blown-up not a single camera was rolling so the bridge had to be re-built and the later scenes were filmed while the bridge was being re-built.

    What a stupendous effort by a group of volunteers to restore what had been nothing more than an abandoned cow pasture a few years before. I need to watch the documentary on Netflix to get a better idea how they managed to pull this off. Unfortunately, at age 74, a visit to Sad Hill isn't in the cards for me. so the video is a great substitute.
    BTW, Eli Wallach died in 2014 at 98 years of age, and his one and only wife of 66 years, Anne Jackson, died in 2016 at age 90, just a month earlier than the fiftieth anniversary of the theatrical release of the film in 1966. Eli Wallach never drank and never smoked. Their marriage was one of the longest among Hollywood stars. I rather doubt we'll ever see it happen again.

    Looks a lot more believable now that ALL of the mounds are overgrown. In the film, every single grave was fresh, which didn't match the age of the stone circle and other funeral statuary. Nice. Mucho thanks to those who did the restoration.

    I would love to know just this one thing: Who's idea was it to let a dog 🐕 loose on set when Tuco was going into Sad Hill? It seemed to have scared Tuco as well as the dog, but it was just a nice touch for that moment! Or was it by accident 🤔, and Leone just kept it to look authentic because he could have just retook the scene...🤯

    • @manofharlech5775
      @manofharlech5775 4 роки тому +4

      From what I've heard, it was Leone's idea, just to add more spice to the scene. He wanted Eli Wallach to look authentic, thus he kept the dog as a "secret surprise". Wallach's reaction is genuine as he was scared of dogs in general...

      @@manofharlech5775 Thanks! This scene with the dog ALWAYS made wonder: Why is there a stray dog in the scene? What's its purpose? Did it just wander on to the scene, and Leone just decided to keep it in the filming because if it just wandered in to ruin the scene then Leone would have called, "Cut! Cut! Cut!" Anyway, it was a nice touch to make it look real
