    Greenwashing is a form of misleading marketing that makes you, the consumer, believe companies are doing more to protect the environment than they actually are. Companies like Nestle, Shell, BMW, and General Electric have all been accused of greenwashing over the past 20 years.
    47% of American consumers are willing to pay more for sustainable products, according to a 2019 survey. So how do you look for red flags? Be a skeptic, look for certified eco-labels, and do your research.

    It really is too bad that so many companies have jumped on the green bandwagon just because it helps them sell more products. I've even seen examples where a company will redesign their packaging to literally be green but nothing has changed about the product. Thanks for bringing more awareness to this issue!

    This why I make my own cleaning and hygiene products. It's cheaper, better for environment, and my brain doesn't have to hurt.

    We shouldn't have to do all this, governments should regulate the use of terms like 'eco friendly' 'green' and 'good for the planet' on all commercial products to ensure they meet specific requirements to be able to legally use those terms. Same goes for words like 'healthy', 'diet' and 'natural'.

    • @eyalkutz4682
      @eyalkutz4682 3 роки тому

      But all of these words are subjective! You can't define them in a law

    • @Cather0n
      @Cather0n 3 роки тому +4

      Absolutely, there needs to be a consensus around the the legal definition of words of this nature used in products. Being or becoming environmentally friendly should not be the product of the consumers´ researching labor, but rather a consequence of regulations on the production of these items.

    • @masoncampbell971
      @masoncampbell971 3 роки тому +3

      @@eyalkutz4682 That is precisely why there needs to be rules on the use of these words to make sure consumers are not being misled about a product. Minimum requirements and limits clearly defined in a universal standard, that products have to meet in order to use certain terms. You can't legally claim a medicine cures something when it doesn't, so you shouldn't be able to claim something is "Eco-friendly" when it's not.

    Being careful where you shop is the most important thing. Another thing: reuse. They are advertising you something to buy brand new, but always consider if its something (like a pot or furniture) that you could get 2nd hand instead. Can even get higher quality items that way!

    Even think dirty relies on generalization, limited research, and zero context for quantity used in the formula. Research is the best method if you want to know whither products walk the talk 😊

    I mean... it seems like that is the short term solution, but shouldn´t these practices be outlawed so that being environmentally friendly is not considered "hard work" but instead the norm?

  • @Dtab22

    When referring to nuclear as environmentally safe, they mean operationally not when catastrophic accidents happen. A water treatment plant can catastrophically fail and be bad for the environment. But operationally, water plants are clean and viewed as okay. Or how about the lithium batteries in EV cars when they fail and blowup and catch fire? Are those environmental safe during its catastrophic failure or accident? However EV cars operationally are safe for the environment but aren’t during construction, accidents and scraping. Idk when thinking and speaking in absolutes became so prevalent, but it’s not realistic and is just dumb.
