  • Ham and Bean Soup Recipe below. Today I will show you how to make this quick and easy Ham and Bean soup with your left over ham from your holiday dinner or any time you have left over ham. This soup is so delicious and one of my favorite recipes to make.
Crock Pot Ham and Bean Soup
    3 cups pre-cooked ham (chopped)
    1/2 cup onions (chopped)
    1/2 cup celery (chopped)
    1/2 cup shredded carrots (chopped)
    32 oz chicken broth
    2 1/2 cups water
2 or 3 (15.5 ounce) cans Northern Beans
    salt and pepper to taste.
Place all the above ingredients into your crockpot, stir and blend together. Turn crockpot on high and cook at least 3 hours until veg are tender, if you want your soup a little thicker, in a seperate bowl add 2 tsp corn starch with a little water and blend together, add to soup, mix well, turn heat to low and let cook until ready to serve.
STOVE TOP Ham and Bean Soup
In small frying pan add 2 tbsp of veg oil or olive oil to pan, cook onions, celery and carrots until tender, remove from heat and drain oil. Place veg, ham, beans, chicken broth, water and salt and pepper to taste in soup pot, cook on medium heat for 20-25 minutes until hot and flavors are well blended, if you want your soup a little thicker, in a seperate bowl add 2 tsp corn starch with a little water and blend together, add to soup, mix well, turn heat to simmer and let cook until ready to serve.

Glenda you couldn't have timed this better, a favorite restaurant has closed till further notice, and this a favorite that they make. Now I can make this for my mom, it's one of her favorites. Hopefully the nursing home will let me bring it to her.

I made this soup. I used chicken & vegetable bouillon. I also keep dried heirloom beans. I soaked the beans overnight and cooked everything all day in my slow cooker. It came out totally yummy. Thank you for this delicious recipe.

I cannot wait to try this. When I was growing up, my mom would make homemade bean soup and the wood stove in our living room. It would cook all day at our house with smells so good I haven’t had it in years and I just purchased all the stuff to make it now I’m really excited. Thank you!

If mine comes out too thin, I usually will take an immersion blender and whip up some of the beans which make it a lot thicker. That's the way I like it

Thanks for sharing!! I love bean soup. My mom used to make it that way but made it a little thicker and my dad used to put ketchup on his. I now do the same thing. My husband likes soup beans made with pinto beans and I put ketchup on that too :)

so glad to see you used all of the canned beans... i can't understand why people always want to rinse their beans... that's like washing the fond out of your frying pan after having fried something

I made ham and bean soup recently, I added rivels. That really helps to thicken the soup. Thank you Glenda!

What in the world are rivels?

    • @cherylheming1714
      @cherylheming1714 2 роки тому +2

@@sheilahartney9777 They are very small balls of dough, made with flour and egg, you can add butter to this also if you want. They are dropped in the boiling broth.

When I use canned beans I slosh some of whatever liquid I’ll be adding-in this case chicken broth-between the cans to get all that starchy goodness from the bottoms of the cans.
