Hi! It honestly doesn't matter what you use! If you're just starting out, just use what you have in hand! There are some great inexpensive watercolors out there. In fact, if you go to my video here ua-cam.com/video/OfwF8_1-MO4/v-deo.htmlsi=SZH6JS7XVHlaj5Ag I have a 15% coupon for my UK viewers that lasts until the 23rd of August. But no pressure!
@_bettina_fernandez_ I do watercolour & calligraphy mail art. To waterproof the envelopes (made from sheets of watercolour paper) I use my finger to rub in Vaseline/ petroleum jelly after adding stamps. Leave to absorb for 1-2 days or use a hairdryer to speed up the process. Cheap and effective. Doesn’t smudge inks or paints and envelopes get through postal system cleaner too.

And if there’s excess just gently rub/blot with paper towel
