After a severe attack of back pain, the rehab medicine doc wrote me a number of medications that would have effectively ended my career if I started taking them. Luckily I went home from that appointment and found your videos on line and am glad to say that after 2 weeks of doing them, I have not needed any medication at all. Thank you very much.

I love how you said "Don't be lazy"... it's funny but sometimes we make up our minds and exercise but only do it halfway...I don't know why, seen as if we're taking the time to do it we might as well do it right, but oh well... I'll try this vid, thanks Esther!

The reason you have the deep arch and it's uncomfortable is because you have a weak core. Take it easy and slowly, building up each day. This sequence might be a bit advanced for you, so an exercise that physiotherapists recomend to clients in your position would be to lie on your back with your hands under the arch and press your back down onto your hands. Eventually you will be able to press your back into the floor without using your hands. Be careful not to strain your neck, perhaps propping

it underneath a pillow. I would also look at trying beginner's Pilates and using an exercise ball to help you. Beginner's usually do well using props or tools. You will achieve a lot more using props and when you have mastered sufficient core strength a sequence such as this will be a cinch. I'd give it 2.5 weeks (if you exercise your core daily) and you will be much stronger. Good luck! :)

There can be a natural curve, but only if that feels ok to the lower back. If the abs are quite weak I would suggest keeping the lower back on the floor..

Thank you for your answer =) I was just asking because when we do abdominals in my aerobics class, our instructor always insists that we keep our lower back firmly flat on the floor so as to protect the spine. Some people seem to find it hard to keep the lower spine touching the floor all the time while doing abdominals. In my case, I find it harder when my legs are closer to the floor.

In addition to personally benefiting from what Esther teaches, I keep wondering how old she is, approximately, because I think she's probably older than she looks. My point is that Esther seems to be a living example of how yoga practice and fitness in general, if pursued diligently enough, can maintain an attractive shape, muscle tone and even beauty well beyond what would normally be the case.

Hi Ester, I started yoga a few years back after i had n microdisectomy of the L4 and L5 disks. Had no formal training, but i downloaded your video's and it helped me tremendously. I heard on one of your video's that you was in South Africa and was wondering when you would come again? I'm in Cape Town...southern suberb and this side is very little yoga class and the one's that is here are not very eager to take me as a student when i tell them about my operation. I want to know from you what can i do to help myself improve? Thanks for taking the time to read my message. Regards Everyn

Ok, i would love to do this exercise, but every time i do something that involves this kind of hip motion, i hear the loudest crack, and can feel something snapping on my hips... and i usually stop for fear of hurting myself, this also happens when i do conventional abs, if i lift my upper body too much. Is there any alternative exercise i can do instead?

hi Esther..I love this video of yours to strengthen my core ..but,I am fearful about doing the first posture of exhale legs up and inhale legs down ,as it hurts or strains the lower back ..I have heard about the same in videos of other instructors ..pls confirm on this ..
note : I am a IT employee, who sits whole day and this may aggravate the strain on lower back.
