- Liz Truss has spoken exclusively to GB News to mark the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's death on September 8.
Queen Elizabeth II appointed Truss as her fifteenth and final Prime Minister on September 6 2022 at Balmoral Castle.
GB News' Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker asked the former PM: "So on September 7, there was a Privy Council meeting in the Cabinet Office. Were you, given any special indication that Her Majesty's health had taken a turn for the worst on that day?
Truss replied: "I arrived just before 6pm for the meeting and everybody was there waiting and we waited for a few minutes and then the news arrived that the Queen would no longer be able to do the meeting.
"That was the first I heard of it but clearly it was a very ominous sign."

Wonderful interview
I should imagine a very bitter sweet time for Liz Truss. The Queen was intent on carrying out her last duties, what a legend.
You KNOW the meeting and subsequent death of QEII - a world icon and one of the longest serving and greatest leaders of contemporary time - the very next day shook Ms. Truss to the core!

Harriet and Mattress disrespected the Queen while she was alive..and now Harriet wants to honor her memory on the anniversary of her death? Total low class hypocrite, he is.
Those two hypocrites should not be allowed to talk and say anything about her! They are not honorable persons and made her suffer!
Not in my view a good granson
He wants to dine out on her like he does his mother. A total bottom feeder.
He couldn't even be bothered to get his clothes pressed. What a jerk!
Harold exudes toddler energy - entitled, demanding, petulant, full of childish tantrums, my opinion. Imagine what the family has already had to deal with behind the scenes. He didn’t have time to visit the Queen when she asked him to, in the last months of her life. Hasn’t he figured out he should just stay away now, he’s burned his bridges utterly. Allegedly, my opinion.
A truly great example to all young people. The late Queen was an amazing person.
What an honour for Liz Truss, that she was the last person to meet with the late Queen in public. A unique gift that only she can boast of, even if it brought to an end the life of a magnificent monarch and the finest of persons. Much love from Malta. We Maltese have always loved Her Late Majesty and always will.
Liz, the only living PM that served two Monarchs.Nice puppies as well.
Shame such a stupid woman who doesn’t appreciate the enormity and was only there by chance.. and SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN IN THAT POSITION..

I can see why places wanted to be Republics, for example: Iceland leaving the Danish monarchy, but I don't know why Malta got rid of the UK monarchy.
@@alwilfrid We wanted our independence. Colonisation is still a form of slavery, although I have to agree with you that in latter years we benefited more from the British. Especially since Malta again opted to join the EU in 2004, which strictly speaking, has taken away our independence.
The queen's first PM was Winston Churchill, born 1874. Her last PM was Liz Truss, born 1975. So in a way her reign lasted more than a hundred years.
Yeah that's not how it works genius
It does show the span of the Queen's reign. Churchill was more than 50 years older than the Queen and Truss was almost 50 years younger than the Queen.
@@bills7595genius doesn't understand the wording in a way.
Yes because she wasn't afraid to pick Churchill's brains (and he wasn't shy to 'share')and she knew her English, Colonial and World History in great detail! She'd also been in ATS service as a fulltime active Service Woman, in 1945 towards the end of the War, which garnered a great deal of respect and meant motor mechanics knew not to try to pull the wool over her eyes! A good interviewer asks open ended questions, interrupting only when the interviewee is showing signs of reaching the end of that segment. This gives the interviewee a chance to draw spontaneously on their memories, and is more effective than closed questions.
Exactly! I was just thinking how infuriating it was that he kept giving her various 'answer options' rather than just asking the question and letting her reply. What's worse is that he is sat there with notes, so has presumably prepared the interview and probably not on his own!
You are right as he is doing most of the talking and putting in answers to his own questions .
He's clearly a rookie. I thought he lacked empathy and sensitivity. He would have got more out of her if he'd been 100% in the interview and the topic. Instead he was, possibly understandably, focused on his prep and his carefully constructed questions. People have to start somewhere! I hope he learns from this one. Should have been Dan Wootton though.
No doubt practised this in front of his mirror many times to perfect his performance. He may be the royal corespondent for GB news but they should have got someone with more experience. It was cringeworthy.
Silly interview imo. Who cares what Liz Truss experienced. It was about the Queen not her.
It's a shame that Truss was robbed of her Premiership, especially when her economic growth plan turns out to have been the correct plan after all.
Instead we 'somehow' ended up with Sunak, a politician who was rejected by quite a margin by the Membership, and who went on to fail in every capacity.
At least Truss had balls and actually gave a sh1t. It is clear Sunak hasn't and doesn't.

Beautiful post. Agreed 😓
HM Queen Elizabeth II ruled for 70 years, this takes 1st place in the history of the world. She was also the oldest monarch (96 years old) 1st place. During her long reign, she did a lot of good things, and without her exploits and efforts it would be very difficult for us now. She ruled not only Great Britain 🇬🇧 but also 15 other countries like Canada 🇨🇦 Australia 🇦🇺 New Zealand 🇳🇿 and others. Thanks to her for her hard work, she was a true example of a woman👩 and simply a Queen 👑 God bless the queen
She wouldn’t have said ‘ruled’ she would have said ‘served’ - and that’s why we loved her ❤
Louis XIV of France reigned 72 years from 1643 until 1715, so for sure she's not in 1st place. There are some examples of reigns of 70+ years in history
@@armandoyague6819you are right but I do like to point out that Louis XIV was only 4 years old when he became king, so it is quite remarkable that the late Queen reigned for so long having not become queen until she was 25
It will take King Charles, King William (guessing) and King George (guessing) combined to serve 70 plus years. Medicine could advance to the point that people might be able to live healthy, active lifestyles past 100 years of age and that would change things of course.
We didn't want her
Can someone bring her back … just for a day; to see that BEAUTIFUL smile … It’s so hard to believe she’s gone 🥹
The queen would not've liked the way Liz was got rid of. She would not have been happy with the way sunak was installed with his popularity record being non existant. The queens death would not've happened for a good few years if werent for markle n divvie, being used to get rid of her.
I doubt she would have liked the damage Truss and Kamikaze Kwarteng caused to the country either. Damage we are still paying for.
She wouldn’t have wanted the mini budget.
Very sad, she wanted to do her duty to the very last moment. There was no retirement as the rest of us have, she had to keep up with business to the end. Thank you for your exceptional service Ma'am, you are greatly missed.
What was her duty?
yes but the tax payers money she got also the wealth they stole she and the rest of them will never know what hard work is
@@DavieBee1988 The Queen was up earlier in the morning and was later to bed than you and I every day of her life. Her whole year was planned in advance for her by other people, her diary secretaries.
She was a slave to her diary. No duvet days for the Queen, if it was marked in her diary she had to go, no matter how she felt, no matter how dull an appointment. She couldn't change careers like you or me, or suddenly take off for a holiday in the sun.
When she got home from a punishing day visiting three factories in three different places, she had a mountain of official papers to sign off - not before she had read them in detail and studied them. Only then would she be free to sleep.
As for the money, it was hers, William the Conqueror conquered England in 1066 as his personal possession. He gave much away to his supporters and leased much out. The royal family still retains some of his property, won fair and square, including the Duchy of Lancaster and the Duchy of Cornwall.
The Queen promised, on her 21st birthday broadcast, that her life would be devoted to the service of her people around the earth. She honored that promise, and reaffirmed it during her coronation. She served her subjects with devotion to her core. Elizabeth II was an amazing woman. She was truly the Queen of the world. May she Rest In Peace.
Great insight into those precious last days and the immediate challenge of moving on with a new era whilst still mourning one of history's greatest people. Thoughts with HM family.

Truss was quite tactful when asked "can you remember her last words to you?". Of course she can, but she replied "no, not really". A PM must keep all these things to him or her self, for ever. Much better than saying "yes, but I'm not going to tell you", which only whets the appetite of the listener. She shut him down, firmly but tactfully.
Exactly! The conversations between PM and HMQ are never revealed. A golden rule she kept and tactfully dodged throughout this interview.
I wouldn't be surprised if she actually had forgotten. She doesn't seem to have much of a feel for history.
Either way it was the correct response. Truss isn't the most confident person or a skilled communicator but she managed to navigate the Queen's death and this interview quite well.@@Peter-ov6xh
Of course, that may be protocol, as cabinet ministers do not reveal what is said at a cabinet meeting with the PM. However, this secrecy and the veiling of HM's impending death- and even the cause of her death- is disappointing and in fact sullies my sense of loss. Allow light to fall on the institution. No-one, especially those whose living is derived from the public purse, is above scrutiny. Not even monarchs.
@@weskitten You obviously haven't heard the famous quote by Walter Bagehot in the 19th century concerning the British monarchy: "Its mystery is its life. We must not let in daylight upon magic".
That is what royalists choose to believe. Those who want to destroy the monarchy wish to portray them as "just ordinary folk". That characterisation as Bagehot so wisely commented is incompatible with the concept of royalty and social class in general.
It is merely one way of structuring society, and it works extremely well for all. People in general are no happier in republican USA today than they were in 18th century England.
The existence of royalty does not depend on the public purse. England was conquered by William the Conqueror in 1066, as his personal possession. He gave out much of the conquered land to his followers and supporters, in return for continuing service, and on a temporary basis (if the tenant died without heirs the land reverted to the crown, still the case today).
He kept much land for himself, such as what later became the Duchy of Cornwall and the Duchy of Lancaster, still personal possessions of the crown, from which substantial income is derived for royal usage. They are not dole scroungers as you seem to imply.
If you want to conquer land for yourself, you are free to do so. Raise a private army and private funding and go ahead. It's a very risky business if you don't succeed, but the potential reward is very great. William the Conqueror took that huge risk, and was successful. The royal family today are his heirs.
I thoroughly enjoyed this interview. I liked that Mr. Walker was very efficient in his approach during the interview in order to get through as many questions as possible during the window of time that was available to him. Because of this, we all were able to learn a great deal about Ms. Truss and that crucial time in history.

What an elegant interviewer! Empathic facial expressions, articulate, engaged, actually listening to her answers, and professional. A good pace. Very handsome too.
A week before Queen Elizabeth's death , My beloved dog of 13 yrs passed away and my emotions were intense and I was experiencing the same emotional heartache of losing a most beloved member of my family , I was experiencing the same emotions that the royal family and the UK ( those that loved the queen. I know not everyone in the uk does ) which made the queens death even more emotional for me . I was in england during july/August and everywhere i visited still had decorations from the Jubilee celebrations and when i visited Lincolnshire, we went into a little cafe for a coffee ( one of the best coffees I've ever had ) the cafe was rather small yet cozy and the staff were all dressed in 1940's attire, the radio was also playing music from that era ( i felt like I went back in time ) and there were many wwii trinkets to look at books to read and photos to look at , they also had a lifesized cut out of Queen Elizabeth ii and I asked one of the woman if I could take a picture with the queen and she said yes so i have a photo of me with the queen. My friends thought it was a real photo ( thats how real it looked ) . I guess my point I'm trying to make is that we were all blessed to have been given so many years with those we love , we watch them grow from infants to adults and we experience together the ups and downs of life , they are with us when history is being made , through sickness and health they have been there for us we for them , but time doesn't wait for any of us , it slips us by unnoticed until it slaps us in the face with a reality check. And that reality is we should never take for granted the time we have with our families, pets , and friends , time is valuable and we can't get it back , once its gone it's gone forever. And we lose a piece of us when someone we love passes away there is a void in a hearts and only time can help heal that void . This is why it's so important that we spend as much time as we can with our loved ones and let them know how much we love them while they are with us on this journey in life .
Don't care

I appreciate your sentiments. We do indeed need to value each day with our loved ones. I’m sorry you lost your pet and am sure it was painful, as indeed with was when I lost my own dogs. But I would humbly request that these should not be compared to the loss of a remarkable person, not least our wonderful monarch.
I lost my husband very suddenly when he dropped dead in front of me - no warning, here one minute, gone the next. You can well imagine the shock. The one comment that distressed me greatly, was from someone who said ‘ I know how you feel because I felt the same when I lost my cat’.
Really? Her cat was the same level as the loss of a beloved husband of over 30 years, the father of my children? I found it totally insulting.
Of course I didn’t say anything. It was obvious that the loss of her cat was devastating to her and she was missing it - as I missed my dogs - but what an insensitive comment to make to a new widow. How could her cat be in the same league by any means with the loss of the love of my life? I found it to be so so insulting.
Our Queen was indeed remarkable. I saw her many times in life, and queued for hours to see her lying in state in Westminster hall, and was humbled by it. I think it’s great that you value her memory so much. Thank you for that. However I would humbly plead for folks to NEVER start condolences and sympathy by comparing the loss of a human being to that of an animal, even if in truth they love their pet more than anyone else in their life. It can be devastating.
In times like these, it's common for people to reflect on her legacy and the impact she had on the monarchy, the UK, and the world. It's also an opportunity to express condolences and support for her family and loved ones.
