  • Liz Truss has spoken exclusively to GB News to mark the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's death on September 8.
Queen Elizabeth II appointed Truss as her fifteenth and final Prime Minister on September 6 2022 at Balmoral Castle.
GB News' Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker asked the former PM: "So on September 7, there was a Privy Council meeting in the Cabinet Office. Were you, given any special indication that Her Majesty's health had taken a turn for the worst on that day?
Truss replied: "I arrived just before 6pm for the meeting and everybody was there waiting and we waited for a few minutes and then the news arrived that the Queen would no longer be able to do the meeting.
"That was the first I heard of it but clearly it was a very ominous sign."

She'd also been in ATS service as a fulltime active Service Woman, in 1945 towards the end of the War, which garnered a great deal of respect and meant motor mechanics knew not to try to pull the wool over her eyes! She had a greater understanding of the suffering of the British and Colonial public than most and that was obvious.

Of course, that may be protocol, as cabinet ministers do not reveal what is said at a cabinet meeting with the PM. However, this secrecy and the veiling of HM's impending death- and even the cause of her death- is disappointing and in fact sullies my sense of loss. Allow light to fall on the institution. No-one, especially those whose living is derived from the public purse, is above scrutiny. Not even monarchs.

@@weskitten You obviously haven't heard the famous quote by Walter Bagehot in the 19th century concerning the British monarchy: "Its mystery is its life. We must not let in daylight upon magic".
That is what royalists choose to believe. Those who want to destroy the monarchy wish to portray them as "just ordinary folk". That characterisation as Bagehot so wisely commented is incompatible with the concept of royalty and social class in general.
It is merely one way of structuring society, and it works extremely well for all. People in general are no happier in republican USA today than they were in 18th century England.
The existence of royalty does not depend on the public purse. England was conquered by William the Conqueror in 1066, as his personal possession. He gave out much of the conquered land to his followers and supporters, in return for continuing service, and on a temporary basis (if the tenant died without heirs the land reverted to the crown, still the case today).
He kept much land for himself, such as what later became the Duchy of Cornwall and the Duchy of Lancaster, still personal possessions of the crown, from which substantial income is derived for royal usage. They are not dole scroungers as you seem to imply.
If you want to conquer land for yourself, you are free to do so. Raise a private army and private funding and go ahead. It's a very risky business if you don't succeed, but the potential reward is very great. William the Conqueror took that huge risk, and was successful. The royal family today are his heirs.

I thoroughly enjoyed this interview. I liked that Mr. Walker was very efficient in his approach during the interview in order to get through as many questions as possible during the window of time that was available to him. Because of this, we all were able to learn a great deal about Ms. Truss and that crucial time in history.

A week before Queen Elizabeth's death , My beloved dog of 13 yrs passed away and my emotions were intense and I was experiencing the same emotional heartache of losing a most beloved member of my family , I was experiencing the same emotions that the royal family and the UK ( those that loved the queen. I know not everyone in the uk does ) which made the queens death even more emotional for me . I was in england during july/August and everywhere i visited still had decorations from the Jubilee celebrations and when i visited Lincolnshire, we went into a little cafe for a coffee ( one of the best coffees I've ever had ) the cafe was rather small yet cozy and the staff were all dressed in 1940's attire, the radio was also playing music from that era ( i felt like I went back in time ) and there were many wwii trinkets to look at books to read and photos to look at , they also had a lifesized cut out of Queen Elizabeth ii and I asked one of the woman if I could take a picture with the queen and she said yes so i have a photo of me with the queen. My friends thought it was a real photo ( thats how real it looked ) . I guess my point I'm trying to make is that we were all blessed to have been given so many years with those we love , we watch them grow from infants to adults and we experience together the ups and downs of life , they are with us when history is being made , through sickness and health they have been there for us we for them , but time doesn't wait for any of us , it slips us by unnoticed until it slaps us in the face with a reality check. And that reality is we should never take for granted the time we have with our families, pets , and friends , time is valuable and we can't get it back , once its gone it's gone forever. And we lose a piece of us when someone we love passes away there is a void in a hearts and only time can help heal that void . This is why it's so important that we spend as much time as we can with our loved ones and let them know how much we love them while they are with us on this journey in life .

I appreciate your sentiments. We do indeed need to value each day with our loved ones. I’m sorry you lost your pet and am sure it was painful, as indeed with was when I lost my own dogs. But I would humbly request that these should not be compared to the loss of a remarkable person, not least our wonderful monarch.
I lost my husband very suddenly when he dropped dead in front of me - no warning, here one minute, gone the next. You can well imagine the shock. The one comment that distressed me greatly, was from someone who said ‘ I know how you feel because I felt the same when I lost my cat’.
Really? Her cat was the same level as the loss of a beloved husband of over 30 years, the father of my children? I found it totally insulting.
Of course I didn’t say anything. It was obvious that the loss of her cat was devastating to her and she was missing it - as I missed my dogs - but what an insensitive comment to make to a new widow. How could her cat be in the same league by any means with the loss of the love of my life? I found it to be so so insulting.
Our Queen was indeed remarkable. I saw her many times in life, and queued for hours to see her lying in state in Westminster hall, and was humbled by it. I think it’s great that you value her memory so much. Thank you for that. However I would humbly plead for folks to NEVER start condolences and sympathy by comparing the loss of a human being to that of an animal, even if in truth they love their pet more than anyone else in their life. It can be devastating.
