Italian inventor Antonio Meucci is indeed recognised for his contributions to early telephone technology. Meucci developed a voice communication device in the 1850s and 1860s, which he called the "telettrofono." He conducted various experiments with voice transmission over wires. While his work laid the foundation for the telephone's development, he faced financial difficulties and language barriers in promoting his invention.
In 2002, the United States Congress passed a resolution recognising Antonio Meucci's contributions to the invention of the telephone. The resolution stated that Meucci should be acknowledged for his work in the early development of the telephone, even though Alexander Graham Bell is officially credited with the invention.
FYI, Bell was a Scotsman who emigrated to the USA to become a US citizen.

To your intro Livia question, her goals: People like Livia spend the first half of their adult lives alienating everyone around them with their malignant narcissism and the second half trying to destroy those same people for "abandoning" them. To me, she is the "purest" sociopath on the show, not a single redeeming quality. I can only imagine the hell her childhood was. These people are made, not born, though they may come into the world with certain negative proclivities already in place

@@weebitreacts That is so sweet. The feeling is very mutual. I'm recently divorced, care for my Mom full-time & have all sorts of financial issues. My social circle is basically down to one very dear friend but he lives in Florida & I'm in New York (thank God for texting). So it's hard for me to put into words what you two & a few other reactors (mostly Scottish!) have meant to me over the past couple of years. I really can't imagine having survived this time with my mental & physical health somewhat intact without you. I can't speak for the rest of the world but content creators like yourselves provide more than just entertainment & a fun distraction for many of us in the U.S.- you fill a void of human connection that just seems to be eroding here more & more with each passing year, with devastating effects. Anyway, I've waffled on long enough 😄. Thank you again for the lovely compliment & know that your health, joy, peace & prosperity are always in my prayers. God bless you both! 🖖🖖🖖

Also watch the Back to The Future trilogy, it's amazing. The man character of the trilogy is literally a McFly and they make reference to his Irish heritage in the first and third. That's why Saint Patrick's day is celebrated heavily here too, A LOT of Irish linage.

You definitely gotta watch the Godfather I and II and Goodfellas, cause they get quoted & referenced all the time in the Sopranos! In this episode, Christopher shooting the pastry guy in the foot is a reference to Goodfellas where the character played by Christopher gets shot in the foot, but there were lots of other references in previous episodes too

There's a melodic quality in your speech that sort of mesmerizes me - the musical aspect, and maybe the joy of doing detective's work, because i do have to decode my way through the brogue a bit. Goodfellas and Sopranos share a lot of the same actors. But 9 years before Season 1 Sopranos. There are nods to Goodfellas constantly. The major actors in this show are small day player actors in Goodfellas. Except Doctor Melfi who is one of the main characters in Goodfellas.

Some other great but often overlooked mob movies are
Donnie Brasco- the true story of an FBI agent who infiltrated the Bonanno family.
A Bronx Tale- about a kid growing up with his dad and the local mob chieftain kind of competing to influence him.
Gotti- the 1996 version (not the horrible John Travolta version) about the rise and fall of the most powerful 1980s mob boss. It has a lot of future Sopranos actors in it.

Murder Incorporated was an group of assassins who did hits for the mob, politicians, and businessmen in the 1930's in NYC. They worked out of a candy store that had several pay phones. Assassins would be on call at the store pulling shifts and would take contract killings over the phone. Estimated number of people they killed have been estimated between 900 and 1.000 victims. Some of the assassins had known methods to show the people around the victim that this person had crossed a line. Most killings had no such message implied. One member turned them into to authorities. Several of the members were sent to the electric chair for some of the murders.

On the rustlers and gunslingers comments, most Irish immigrants in the US in the 1800s were rustlers and gunslingers. Fun fact. Bruh, America is the melting pot of the world, we have a little bit of literally EVERYTHING here. And yes, A LOT of Irish (in linage and immigrants) were gunslingers in the old west. Should play RDR & RDR 2. Main character of the first game has Scottish heritage and an important character in 2 one of the gang members you roll with is full on Irish, heavy accent and all lol. And he's great, no spoilers on either game's story.

Typical dyslectic change over the years of living in America, same with the McFlys in Back to The Future.

The first 2 Godfather films are like modern-day Shakespeare & GoodFellas doesn't have that kind of depth but is just so brilliantly written, acted & directed that you never get tired of it. It's like if the world's most exciting amusement park ride were a movie, it would be GoodFellas. Also perfect episode to state this, but there a TWINGE of the supernatural or “hyper-natural” (where the supernatural isn’t explicit, like implied/invisible or paying attention to subtle symbolisms and if you’re verse will in a lot of folklore/mythology/urban legends/religions etc.) I like to call it, in criminal shows here in the states. Might be the same for our country’s, but shows like this, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, Dexter, The Wire etc. have a fair amount of (another term for it) invisible cosmic force at play. Dreams might be foreshadowing, warnings, hallucinations, coincidences and symbolisms etc. Sopranos touches on it a tiny bit more openly at time. You’ll see.
And criminals throughout ALL of history are a superstitious lots. From pirates, to outlaws and onward.

There is supposed to be a second season of Taboo being made, but I think like many shows, has been thrown into confusion by delays from Covid. - I’ve not heard of anything happening here - in the first series Tom Hardy inherits a swath of the island that I live on. Since the storyline has the characters headed here - and the fact that this region is often referred to as 'Hollywood North' I would assume it would be shot here. Although the big studios are based on the mainland in Vancouver, hundreds of movies are shot here.
