  • My attempt to show how to replace a door actuator on a BMW E46.
    This was done on my 330ci Clubsport.
    Hope it's informative enough.

    Good video, I’m just about to tackle my cab passenger door… very helpful. Pretty sure bmw weren’t smart enough to think
    Of the window trick when building these 😂

    Thank you! Just did this today. Took about an hour to do. Trick with the key lock, is to remove the lock from the outside first by loosening a bolt hidden under the rubber upper corner trim.

      Glad to have helped and happy you got yours sorted. I have to do my other door now :) So I'll be doing a video on that one too. Maybe I'll remove the window and regulator this time. We'll see.
      I also have a box of replacement clips :)

    you absolutely must remove the keylock the neck that engages the actuator must be reinserted after the actuator is installed. Good video.

    Im about to attempt this. Just wondering does the reverse torx bolt need to be removed/loosened or the window regulator arm wont move/jiggle without it? Asking because i dont have the reverse torx socket

    Thanks for the video, it helped a lot. I had done the passenger door a few years ago, but this helped highlight the differences with the driver's door. A couple of notes:
    - You don't need to pop the mirror control out, you can just pull out that connector.
    - One thing that really helped create space for getting the old actuator out and the new one in is popping out the piece that holds the wiring harness in place so you can move them. That extra 1/4" really helped.
    - Putting at least one screw in to hold the actuator in place when getting the outside door cable clicked into place helped (that was still one of the more challenging parts of the job). Having the old unit there to help visualize what needed to happen also helps.
    - As you pointed out, taking out the lock barrel before removing the actuator is a good idea.

    BMW’s version of the rubiks cube 🤣 Great video, without it I definitely planned to removed the window. With this manual it is made in one hour. Thank you very much man!! Greetz from Munich

      Yeah. Wish this video was out back then changing the door. Had to use the present gunky lock, and leave my old as I could never find out how get it out without remove the windowsm so I gave up. Cleaned and lubricated the new one instead. But it have alway worked since.

    Just did this on my E46 M3, worked a charm following the instructions in this video. The part about pushing the window regulator up and forwards was the real key to getting actuator out and the new one in, was very easy once you did that.

    *How do you replace it if it’s stuck on both sides so the door will not open, thus not allowing you to get to the bolts to unscrew it on the door jam?*

    • @bimmerclubsport
      @bimmerclubsport  2 роки тому

      Good question. If you can still take off the inner door panel, I would start there. then you can maybe release the actuator to open the door from the inside.
      If the door panel doesn't come off with the door closed, I dunno. Let me ask a friend of mine and get back to you.

    Yep, Great video! Pain in the butt job made easy, did mine in 45mins after watching this very helpful info 10/10
    One tip for anyone else doing this job is to remove the door lock which is very simple, will take you longer to find a 4mm allen key than remove the lock, one bolt with easy access. Reason to remove is that it slides into the actuator which is probably what broke your lock when removing the old part & also makes it a lot easier to relocate the actuator when putting it back.
    Another tip is when reconnecting the outer door handle cable use a long cable tie to hold the actuator half way up the inside of the door, turn it horizontal & thread the cable into locator from the bottom, this way the arm will stop swinging & you can get it in easy. The interior door handle can be fitted before you attempt to put the actuator back into the door.
    Thanks again

    Thanks a million mate. I searched it up on e46 fanatics and found a guide on it but it wasn’t that good. Watched other videos and those were long steps. I didn’t even think that my actuator had gone because it just suddenly stopped working. Watched your video and bang it was fixed. Putting it back together was much longer tho and I spent 40 mins swearing about it but it was finally done. Thanks mate great video. Passenger one on mine went but these steps were good

    Thanks for sharing, just replaced my actuator, did not have to remove the reverse screw, just the 2 bolts holding the window actuator and moving it to make space for the removal. After watching the video, i think took me about 1.5 hours.

    I just did mine tonight and this video is the reason I was able to do it successfully! Thank you so much. One tip I will throw out there for future people is the e7 torx bolt doesn't have to be removed. Simply loosening it and keeping it sill threaded into the back nut is all it needs. This also helps mitigate the window coming out of alignment as well. Again, THANK YOU!

And you're window may be loose because the o ring that is on the bottom of the window clamp has came off. Mine was dry rotted and hanging by a thread. Also, loved your analogy that doing this job is BMWs version of the rubix cube.

      C hi C - need your help. As I was replacing my door actuator on 2004 M3 passenger side, I found my O-ring was broken inside the door. No wonder why it was making noise while driving. My question is - where exactly I put the new O-ring, i just cannot find the clear diagram to see it. BMW gave me a diagram with small pictures that is impossible to see where exactly the o-ring goes. Thanks in advance

    Did the glass come out of adjustment at all during the fix? I know by removing the torx bolt that clamps the window, there's an adjustment that can be done so the window seals correctly.

    • @bimmerclubsport
      @bimmerclubsport  3 роки тому

      Not really but I do find it a little looser than before. But there is no issue with it sealing.

    Mate, your video is a lifesaver. I just did the job in two hours - and while it was still a royal pain - you saved me many hours and hundreds of dollars. Funny story - after i got it all done i was testing it - and almost took it back apart because it wasn't working. Then I realized the door needed to be closed to test (DUH!!!). Next time you're in the states, beer and wings is on me!
