Hey man, I'm seriously considering buying either the 2012 bmw 650i convertible or 2012 audi A7 prestige here I the US but I don't want a car that I'll have to dump plenty of money into in repairs. BMW has 64.5k miles 3 owners. Audi has 106k miles with 2 owners. Which would you advice I buy?

I'm so glad you mentioned the problem with the driver's seat. I thought I was going crazy as I could feel a slight movement or flick on some corners. No matter how many times I took it to BMW (still under warranty), they kept telling me there was nothing wrong. Three years later, I now learn it wasn't my imagination and it is a common issue. Thanks brother!
I own a 640i from 2013. Best car I have ever owned so far. No issues, alot of power with low consumption. In sports mode with manual gear selected it's like a true racing car. I don't know in which countries this is worth 25k but where I am from they cost 45k euro right now with average of 80.000 kilometres. I would absolutely advise this car above the Mercedes and audi

And the BANG & OLUFSEN Danish sound system makes this a rolling concert hall. I am downloading my favorite audio CDs into the Juke Box which can store 40,000 sound tracks. My friends are all jealous. You are 100% right about the 20” rims not working well with the run flats. I go through at least one tire every 2000 miles. If you hit a bump, you would swear you ran over a bowling ball! It sends a shockwave through the vehicle that makes you cringe and usually results in a bubble on the side of the tire. I heard changing to non run flats is a huge improvement.
No matter where you drive, a new tyre in 2000 miles is not normal - unless you have a major puncture that is. Get your wheel alignment checked. I’ve had 20” Michelin PS4S since new, 16,000 km and they have probably similar distance left in them (rears, fronts probably more)...
I have the same car and concur. Only issue I had was a warped front brake disc. Very unusual and not sure how it happened but replaced now and the car is as good as new. Only thing I recommend is to ditch the run flat tyres it makes a massive improvement on the ride.
Very detailed review (especially good tip about avoiding cars with performance upgrades - it’s an indicator of possible heavy driving). Anyone who is in the market for a 6 series, or has recently bought a used one, should watch this video. In my opinion, buyers should avoid the 650i through the 2012 model - I’d only buy a 650i 2013 or later.
I've owned my 2015 640i GC Xdrive for about 3 years. It's been trouble free. Great car for long trips. Only issue I have had to date (beside the seat moving a bit on the frame) is an intermittent "Left Low Beam Fault" message with the Adaptive LED headlights. Turning the headlights off then back on solves the problem. I have experienced this fault 4-5 times since I've owned the car.
I felt lucky to find a 640 I because around here, most people go for the V8. I was warned against it by a BMW mechanic who told me that the V8s had problems because, since the hood (bonnet) is so low there isn’t enough room for the intake system. So they put those components between the the V8 cylinder banks... where it’s very hot. This leads to a lot of problems. Actually I was delighted to hear that because I am a long-time fan of the straight 6; best naturally balanced engine design. I had an E 36 coupe, straight six for 20 years and loved that silky smooth engine. The only thing I don’t like about my 2015 640 is Gran Coupe is the run flats combined with the 20” wheels. They look great but they’re terrible for the ride. My 20 year old E36 with 16 inch wheels and regular radial tires has a better ride on rough roads. I’m constantly in fear of damaging the rims when I hit a pot hole. A nerve shattering BAM! And I’m sure I have a bent rim. Uncomfortable and nerve wracking.
Do you have any problems with the 640 gran coupe since you bought it?? I'm thinking about getting a 640i gran coupe, I know that the 650 v8 Cylinder will have more problems because it's V8.
Great video. I have owned two 650i Gran Coupes (i lost the 1st in a flood) and loved them both. The windows are definitely an issue...more specifically the auto-up function. And high oil consumption affected both of my cars. If I can go back in time, I'd buy this car all over again.
Ive had mine 6 years, and the only fault was the LHD steering column plastic cover was letting water into the footwell. I drilled a bigger hole into the cover over that and also siliconed the yellow plastic blocker, never had a problem since. I will add mine is the 640d so there was room to get to it from above. I imagine if you have a V8 it would be much more difficult to do
640d engine timing chain, tensioners and other parts related to this, should be replaced after 200kkm and oil change should be done every 8-10kkm, otherwise engine failure might occur
Thanks to this video that it cleared all my doubts which had formed by watching videos on other channels and people mentioning some issues and the other person mentioning other issues. I couldn’t rely on that information. Great video keep it up
Thanks for the tips, the one at 3:00 I didn't know about, I did it today when changing my oil & filter, and yes there was wet crap built up in there, I could see the dirt on the yellow cover, about half way up it,,,, thanks again

@@norshafiqsuperman9759 hi , i never experienced vibrations above 60 even with the run flats. it sound like you need wheels balanced and tracking set my friend. or maybe you have a cracked wheel thanks to driving over pothole with the run flats.
I had that issue with vibrations on standard m sport wheels... Ive been 2 times in tyres garage in uk to balance them but that wont help. Then finally I found one guy in Poland who checked all wheels and straight them... no issues with vibrations after that... bmw wheels are really good but soft so you can easily damage them on bad roads... especialy 20 inch on low profile..
There are a lot of issues with the 640d engine (N57) with snapping chains (which is not an easy job), EGR issues, spun main bearings (requiring engine rebuild).
I got a brand new one in 2018. 20000km on it now and no problems at all. Looks amazing, drives well. Not as fast as i would like it to be (640i gran coupe). I would not buy this car again. Very unpractical. Trunk space not big at all. Looks big when you look at it empty. Once you put a little shit it in, there you go...full trunk. Also the interior is very very tight. I`m 180cm, and nobody can seat on the back seat when i drive. If i sit in the passenger seat, both my knees hit the console. 4 Adults on a long ride would be a nightmare! Right now i`m looking at the m550i and 540i M Performance Edition. But at the same time, i`m considering Audi A6, Q8 and Mercedes E class (all 2019) Cheers.
@@Mentis-de In Nort America BMW offers free maintenance for the first 4 years/80 000km. That does not cover brakes, wipers etc, but all oil changes and filters are covered. So far i didn`t spend any money on it.
Thanks so much for this review, looking at the V8 650 and seems a fabulous car with wonderful sound. Not quite so sure now but the 650i seems also to be a fairly rare car possibly. Wonderful shape and a real head turner so I am informed.
I paid 3 year old 20k+ miles BMW 6 Series 44k+ from certified dealer. The only problem I had was that the dashboard screen went completely black after a month and it was replaced brand new for free. I have been driving the car for 2 years now and have 0 issue and love it. In fact, the same dealer asked me to trade in car to upgrade for nearly nothing since BMW 6 series demand is really high around where I live. If you are paying 30k for similar car that I have, you are going to have a lot of issues, guaranteed.
Another common issue is the premature seat wear in driver seat leather...sad my car was nearly new 2015 model with only 20k miles and the seat wear on side bolsters is crazy. 😑
that's why this models are so cheap after few years.....everyone avoids them. Just looked to buy one 2017 but changed my mind immediately after this video!
Hello, I have a 2014 650 Gran Coupe. Recently I experience a power train failure and the OBDII Ready read a P0087 code fuel rail pressure to low. I was told that the issues are the fuel pressure sensor problem. What do you advice ??
Great review. I mistakenly bought the 640d and sold it after a month as I thought it was too rough. I am now looking to buy a 640i Petrol. I have heard it and it sounds great. I only have to battle with myself if to let go of my Lexus IS300h. Decisions, decisions!
Im at the Cross Road either to buy 640d grand coupe, or porches Panamera or Masrati Diesel here in UK for business use, please advise as don't want to deal with big issues
Thanks for this video.. Getting ready to sell our 640D Gran Coupe M-Sport with just under 64,000 kms on it next month..seems like we have been really lucky, just having the driver's seat and harness replaced once.

Hi. I’m going to buy a 640d gran coupe from 2015-2016. Now my question is that i go for xdrive of rwd? Because some say that the xdrive have problems. Thanks
that depends on the maintenance and how you will use the car so if it's currently in a very good condition then you can do the following things to extend it's lifetime: -change the engine oil after max. 5 000 mi and all the other fluids according to the fluid interval chart at the end of the video -don't rev the engine past 2 000 - 2 500 RPM while it's cold, after warming up you can use it regularly (you have the oil temperature gauge on the instrument cluster so you will know when it's warmed up) -use high quality fuel and use the car on longer distances too -after dynamic driving and stopping, don't shut off the engine right away, you should wait at least 30 seconds to let the turbochargers cool down a little -don't use launch control -if you will change the oil in the gearbox and rear differential then use only genuine BMW fluids with the proper maintenance and care these engines can withstand 90 000 - 100 000 mi without major problems except the oil consumption which can be an issue
I’m debating on buying a 2013 E92 M3 with the competition pack or 2015 F13 M6 with competition pack. Does anybody have any experience or opinions on either of these cars? I’m 6’4”, 275 lbs by the way

YOUNG KING he read my mind too! I’m in the same situation
@@jsmabry357 im leaning more on the panamera because of the crazy interior.. but the 6 series wins at outside looks
YOUNG KING I heard the Porsche has engine problems
@@jsmabry357 v6 too?
YOUNG KING he’s got a video talking about them
I love your reviews! So much useful information. Great job!
Great video, I’ve owned a 645i for four years now and have been looking for a replacement. The twin turbo V6 petrol looks a good option.
first two minutes: why the 6 Series is a great car.
next eight minutes: why you should definitely not buy this
Cars have good points ,,but they are not perfect.
I watched the Phaeton video yesterday, this is looking like a way better option!
Veritas
There are a lot of issues with the 640d engine (N57) with snapping chains (which is not an easy job), EGR issues, spun main bearings (requiring engine rebuild).
Around how many miles do you typically see problems start too arise?
One of the best videos made on this car for those looking to buy. Thanks!
But at the same time, i`m considering Audi A6, Q8 and Mercedes E class (all 2019)
Cheers.
Interesting is the car expensive in maintenance?
@@Mentis-de In Nort America BMW offers free maintenance for the first 4 years/80 000km. That does not cover brakes, wipers etc, but all oil changes and filters are covered.
So far i didn`t spend any money on it.
And one more thing, for those thinking to get a gas engine over a diesel. City driving takes about 13-14L / 100km.
The 640d is the gem
best chanel on youtube 100%
This guy does so much research omg thx
Now that's a review!!!
i have a 2013 640 and was told i needed a whole new transmission
and did you get it in the end?
Question bro, how much was the warranty? I'm debating getting this and I'm wondering if I should get it with a warranty.
@@shirazpervez2405 Warranty was free for 4 years, they even pay for my Lyft ride back home while car is in repair/service.
what an absolutely amazing review. thanks for all the insights - will be looking out for those when going for mine
Your videos are always informative and entertaining. Keep up the good work.
Another common issue is the premature seat wear in driver seat leather...sad my car was nearly new 2015 model with only 20k miles and the seat wear on side bolsters is crazy. 😑
Same here, really bad wear and tear, looks awful!
@@boerboel7777 same here it’s terrible
120k miles on mine and it's like new. Be careful when you get in and out your cars.

I like the 5, 6, 7 series alot.👍
Excellent review. Thank you.
When you say "right hand drive" do you mean as in England or Europe?
Unbelievable helpful advice in this Video. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.

Thanks for this. Great presentation.
Great review! Very helpful! thanks!
Hello, I have a 2014 650 Gran Coupe. Recently I experience a power train failure and the OBDII Ready read a P0087 code fuel rail pressure to low. I was told that the issues are the fuel pressure sensor problem. What do you advice ??
Abbe Perez just replace the sensor with a new one. It's not a big deal.
High pressure fuel pump??
Can you please do a video on the active hybrid 5 and 3? Please
What a beautiful car , but I'm still not sure weather to buy this one or the older one with the e62 engine ???Thanks
Soft closing doors on the 6 may have problems after some time if not treated with respect
Can you do a video for Second Generation (E63/E64; 2003-2010)
Great review. I mistakenly bought the 640d and sold it after a month as I thought it was too rough. I am now looking to buy a 640i Petrol. I have heard it and it sounds great. I only have to battle with myself if to let go of my Lexus IS300h. Decisions, decisions!
What do you mean by rough ?
@@immigrant3221 he bought a car (the 640d) without a test drive . . ignore him
Please please please do one for the previous generation :)
Pictures rarely do this uncommonly pretty car justice...
Would you recommend buying a 2014 640i with 97,000km and Full service history?
why not? if you can pay for it why not?
just make sure it was not serviced bm long life oil changes every 20k miles , if oil was changed frequently then buy it
Thax very good and informative video. Keep it up 👊
Is worth it buying 2016 650i with 20kms done?
Great job on the video thank you
What is your opinion of the Ford Focus 1.6 tdci engine and also the Ford Mondeo? Is there any common issues?
Im at the Cross Road either to buy 640d grand coupe, or porches Panamera or Masrati Diesel here in UK for business use, please advise as don't want to deal with big issues
is 640d or 640i better, which one is more reliable, and is the diesel any more fuel efficient than the petrol and if so is it worth it?
Diesel is more efficient. That's about it. Everything else is horrible. But petrol on motorway at 58mph will give you 45-50mpg.!
the 640d has one of the world's great engines
My rear camera of my 640xd (2015) was replaced 5 times by BMW
Excellent video
great information, subscribed
Thanks for this video.. Getting ready to sell our 640D Gran Coupe M-Sport with just under 64,000 kms on it next month..seems like we have been really lucky, just having the driver's seat and harness replaced once.

great informational videos! Keep it up man!
how do you think about 2017 m6 coupe? is it reliable?
I have one and so far it has been the best car I've ever owned.
I bought a 2014 M6 competition convertible 25k miles with clean autocheck when should I expect expenses ?
that depends on the maintenance and how you will use the car
so if it's currently in a very good condition then you can do the following things to extend it's lifetime:
-change the engine oil after max. 5 000 mi and all the other fluids according to the fluid interval chart at the end of the video
-don't rev the engine past 2 000 - 2 500 RPM while it's cold, after warming up you can use it regularly (you have the oil temperature gauge on the instrument cluster so you will know when it's warmed up)
-use high quality fuel and use the car on longer distances too
-after dynamic driving and stopping, don't shut off the engine right away, you should wait at least 30 seconds to let the turbochargers cool down a little
-don't use launch control
-if you will change the oil in the gearbox and rear differential then use only genuine BMW fluids
with the proper maintenance and care these engines can withstand 90 000 - 100 000 mi without major problems except the oil consumption which can be an issue
different car review thanks, you sound very credential, what could be some major engine problems after the mileage you described?
Thank you so much, I will follow your advise for sure !
These reviews are hilarious.
N57 engine in the 640d is a fckn nightmare with the problems it has
I’m debating on buying a 2013 E92 M3 with the competition pack or 2015 F13 M6 with competition pack. Does anybody have any experience or opinions on either of these cars? I’m 6’4”, 275 lbs by the way
I had a 2011 F10 550i and it just blew up. Be carful with these cars! The N54 engines are prone to blow up
N54 is an TT I6, f10 550i is TT V8 what are you talking about
