I love how every single guitar feels different. And you can test 3 of the same model, but they all might feel slightly different.i have 4 at the moment, and my cheapest $500 Jackson dinky (roasted neck, and I wired in an old Seymour),and it has a magic that I can't explain 🤣

Yeah, it's funny that my "cheapest" guitar, is the one I play the most. It just has a sound and feel that makes me want to play.

I definitely feel you about having the one guitar that you would call your "me" guitar. I have tons of guitars but I definitely have one that speaks to me the most and its my black Gibson SG Special with a checkerboard pickguard. It was my first guitar, and since I learned on it, its the easiest one for me to play because I just "know it" so well.

So true about the guitar taking to your heart! I guess that’s something we discover over time and after having played so many instruments and feeling the music come through them. The guitars I feel connected to and which I feel sound like ‘me’ have so changed from the guitars that I always wanted when I was younger (signature models and pickups etc). I don’t gravitate to those anymore, I gravitate to the guitars that feel like hey convey my ‘voice’. Have an awesome day man!

I had a carvin custom built 30 years ago and it has been my main guitar ever since. Always wanted a Tom Anderson, but this guitar did exactly what you described it just spoke me and there was no need to go much else and I have other guitars and I like them but this guitar always brings me back

My main guitars are a McCarty 2004 with rosewood neck, also wrapround bridge and a LP tribute 2018 with electronics modded for vintage clapton style. Not much of shredder instruments so i struggle a bit to play fast stuff but the tones are glorious.
always loved your PRS SC and your playing, Leon. Thanks for showing us.

Bought my first prs about a month ago and it immediately became my favorite. 2021 se 245 standard. It is the best guitar ive ever played. So comfortable and great tones. Its the kind of guitar that pushes me to want to learn to play better because it deserves it. And being drop dead gorgeous doesnt hurt either.

Main for cover band is Sunburst Fender EJ Strat (mid 2000’s). Best recording guitars: rhythm = 1981 Ibanez AS-50 with Lollar Imperial Low Wind pickups and coil-splitting, and for 70’s Marshall lead tones (especially harmonized) = 1971 Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop (stock) and glorious Thin Lizzie tones. Certain tones are great with 1963 Gretsch Tennessean (totally stock), and Strats and Teles. Great Fun.

That PRS suits you well. It has a wider and deeper sound, perceived as a scoop in the midrange compared to traditional humbucker equipped guitars. Something PRS are known for. My personal experience has been that I end up with a very similar sound with every guitar. The first thing in my guitar chain is always an EQ. I've found that I shape the tone of every instrument towards the same "target" that I hear in my mind, guided by how I want the instrument to respond to my touch. For ergonomics, modern headless guitars are it for me.
I've been wanting to get rid of most of my guitar collection (15 guitars) to have one instrument I play 95% of the time. The headless instrument I have is it, but the issue for me now is whether to leave that one guitar as an HH (with single coil splits) or make it into an HSH configuration for further versatility. Either way, there are gains and losses in the tone options. I love the clean tones from both configurations!

Had custom 22 and ce24 before. Bridge pups had some annoying upper mid frequencies I was struggling with. Can’t hear them in your sc245. But what I really love in prs are their neck pickups. They sound godly!
Switched to esp eclipse and horizon. Both sound amazing on bridge, but eclipse is quite dull on neck. Horizon though is more responsive on neck.

I have a 2009 SC 250 that I traded in for a Les Paul. Although I prefer slightly thinner necks and the 250 has a wide fat neck, I can't keep my hands off it because the tone is so awesome.

I used to work at a high end guitar shop and have owned a variety of instruments but never really had a #1. I’ve liked elements of my Suhr moderns and PRS guitars that I’d have to go private stock to get the marriage between the two that I would really want. I’m really hoping PRS does a core custom 24 with the 594 control layout. Even better would be a Floyd rose as an option on that for a bridge choice. That would really be what I’m looking for at this point but I can’t imagine they would make that a standard production model as I feel it would be incredibly niche.

Recently managed to score a pristine case queen 2011 SC-245 25th anniversary and I have been SMITTEN with it ever since. Classically I'm an Ibanez locking trem 24 frets boy, but after getting a CE-22 last year I've really been pulling more and more towards PRS. It's got the 57/08 pups, which sound good, but I found an original 245 treble humbucker I'm gonna have put into it soon and putting a Wolfetone (Seattle based pickup maker) in the neck, can't wait. I can hardly put the thing down, I've found a whole new love for playing. It's great! Heck, I've let friends play it and they hardly want to put it down or give it back haha. The short scale is so much different than what I am used to but as soon as I took it out of the case it felt right. Just straight at home. I think I've done my best playing ever since I got it.

My go to guitar is a 198? Yamaha SE 1212 HSS double locking tremolo. It's stock except that it has a Semor Dunkan Pearly Gates in the bridge and I have a couple DiMarzio Area pick ups that I intend on installing. I was at the music store for strings and picks and tried it and had to have it. I had to sell my 79 Gibson The Paul Standard to a friend that still owns it to afford the purchase.

I always wanted a Les Paul custom because so many of my favourite players use them, but I always somehow ended up with a bolt on. My main guitar for a few years has been a Music Man Axis, for example. Recently, though, I nabbed a Greco CEG-220, one of their more recent models made in 2010. Good lord, this is my new #1. I finally have that thick sound I was always looking for but could never tease out of the Axis.

That is a killer guitar and it sounds great.. The pickups sound pretty hot.. Maybe it's just me, but they soud really good.. I love short scale guitars personally.. I saw an experiment a guy did with a strat and he moved his hand back as far toward the bridge as he could and was using a humbucker and it sounded sorta like a short scale guitar, and then he did the same with a single cut with a single coil in the neck and moved his hand forward and it kinda sounded like a strat.. So, it was interesting, but there's just something about a single cut I love. They always seem to fit me better. They have a neck that slants toward my body and don't just go straight from the body and it fits me better..
Great guitar brother and it always sounds good, but that's because you'd make anything sound good my friend.. Very cool!
    Great video sir!

Very Cool, Thankyou. Awesome Guitar, and can see you shine when playing it. I probably have too many guitars to make a decision(If that is possible lol) but I would have to say "My Guitar" Would have to be my Gretsch G5248T, Chambered Body, 'Gold Top' Double Jet with Bigsby as it amazes me everytime I get it out of it's case, which is really not often enough. I also have a Gretsch G5215 simple single cut, single pick up Rock Machine, that I probably love more and at half the price is totally amazing. I also have a 'collection' of Artist Guitars that are all SO Amazing, excellent quality and playability. Then my Yamaha Pacifica and Sterling by Music Man Silo 3 are battling it out as my favorite 'Strats' at the Moment, both purchased as second hand bargains that have totally impressed. Better stop there before I depress myself as I realize I have too many guitars. (again Is that possible? Cheers All.

I have a cheap bolt on strat copy that's a light natural wood weighs hardly anything and you can feel the whole body resonate and sustain endlessly without even being plugged in ... And a couple more that are juicy in their own way .. a 90s HSH teal metallic Floyd Jackson that you can breathe on and strings touch the fretboard instantly fast and effortless without a buzz, and another perfect feeling neck on a Jackson with active fluences and Floyd that feels so solid you could run a tank over the neck .. the perfect neck / PUP'S.. bout time for the show mate , wonder what you will be playing for us tonight.. The SC is definitely more chunkier than both the Greco and C'24 but its also a darker sounding guitar and has less clarity/cut than them. I'd tonally preference the C'24 myself but when considering its versatility it makes it even more the 'swiss army knife' of a guitar. Thanks for the comparison.

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  Рік тому

You nailed it. The SC245 is less versatile but has a real definitive "character" that makes it great for playing the original music we make, whereas the C24 is a better guitar for gigs where we're playing covers or a a mix.

If it were all about the science of sound, you'd compare guitars by having a robot pluck the strings. But it's the art that matters, I think, and that's about your connection to the instrument. And you are so obviously very connected to that 245.
