I would have the villain be the opposite of syndrome. Have the villain love superheros and want them back. Have him be a villain because he wants to bring superheroes back. He doesn't care who he hurts. It could be a commentary on extremism and radicalization. Could be really cool.
I miss the kind of ominous tone present in the first movie. It has more of a sinister, mystery feel than the second... also the second one has much less of a 'retro' feel to its' overall design :c
Yeah the second one felt very generic, like any other kids movie. As an example, take the design of the new superheros. All the costumes look very cartoonish and generic, whereas the first one had costumes that looked more sophisticated and had that retro feel to them.
It's due to how when Pixar became owned by Disney, Disney focused on making sequels from classics as a cash grab - Brittney React's Video, "Disney is Killing Pixar And They Need Our Help" goes more in-depth about it and other issues Pixar is facing due to Disney's Ownership.

I disliked how Mr. Incredible was treated a bit like he'd never really been involved in his kids' raising and was completely unprepared for caring for them. Jack Jack is fine for "not prepared," but Dash and Violet should be fairly easy for him to deal with. Not that the commentary on Common Core with Dash's math assignment wasn't on point.
They’re poking fun at his character from the last movie. He was very uninvolved as part of the plot. That’s why Helen wanted him to give up on being a supe in secret. It also takes place like directly after the first one so there’s no reason to make it seem like he’d changed much in that regard
It is kinda true though, the first one he was mostly concerned for being a superhero. During the dinner scene at the start he wasn’t even listening to what happened to Dash, only getting interested in the fact his powers were developing further. Second one he realizes how important it is to be more involved with his kids and family, although a bit exaggerated, the fact he looks so worn out from staying on top of a baby and help his teenage daughter dating, and his sons homework goes to show that it can be a tiresome to be a parent but it’s such an important thing to do. That being said, first movie is still overall much better lol
While I do agree with the last two comments, I just feel like it would have been better if Bob, for two or three days, turned out to be incredibly good at taking of the children on his own. And then he realizes, as the days go by, how hard the whole parenting thing is. What I am trying to say is that a more impactful message for this movie wouldn't have been "Being a parent is hard" but rather "Being a parent EVERYDAY is incredibly hard" In the movie, Bob is already struggling during his first day. Just like Cinema Therapy said "Being a parent isn't complex, it's just really exhausting to have to do that everyday for 18 to 20 years" Just feels like that would have resonated more with audience members
My biggest peeve is always that they made Violet go from a very timid and shy girl only beginning to spread her wings to hyper hormonal teenager who has outbursts every five minutes. Especially since the end of the first movie is only minutes, or hours, away from the begining of the second. And she was already very loud and obnoxious at the start of the second film.
Violet would never act like that when Toby had her memory erased from his brain. If anything, she would just be heartbroken, she wouldn’t lash out at her dad. Also why is she so boy crazy? Toby only crossed her mind twice in the first movie, but in the sequel, she’s so Toby obsessed.
I wish they had set the film further in the future... imagine to see violet on her early twenties, a teenager dash and a young boy jack jack... all that juicy new family dynamics and conflicts that a villian could explore against the heros...
I wish they had gone this route, it would have also been enough time for the old pro-supers and anti-supers debate plat to be established as well, with people at first being lost in the nostalgia of the "old days" but then people who actually lived through it (or at least the end of the era) could be all "man, the adults at the time had a point, supers are dangerous, there's too much collateral damage being done" (said collateral damage being overblown by news outlets for drama and views. It could still keeps its message about how people spend too much time looking at their screens and paying attention to frivolous news etc.
The biggest thing I hated about this movie was how the leat scene of the first one shows how the par's are now fighting as a family, and the second one opens with absolutely none of that Also they did the worst thing a superhero movie can possibly do: give multiple characters super strength, so that it cancels out and they just become normal
I saw the second one first cause I didn’t grow up with the first and I thought it was fine. Later on I watched the first after hearing so much about it and it’s such a classic good movie even with all the super hero saturation. There is a lot of passion in the first one while the second feels so by the numbers of what you can find any basic kids movie.

I'm not gonna lie I liked incredible 2,but what I miss abt it was u could actually feel the tension, had a grey noir style feeling, and when it came to the action of the super heros you could actually feel the danger and the possibility they could get seriously injured, the best scene for me was the reveal of the amount of super heroes that were terminated like it just shows how dire the situation could get, but part 2 was just to bright the action felt fast and timid with no sought of weight and intention in it
Also that scene where Mrs. Incredible explains to the kids that these guys really will hurt you and aren’t like bad guys on tv. That made it feel so much more real

Meh. Not necessary. Even if the original's slightly dated visually, it still holds up pretty well today thanks to it's unique artstyle. Plus even if the sequel has better character models and more detailed environments, why bother spending money to reanimate the first movie with the sequel's assets? Sure it could amplify the experience of that original film, but where's the fun in everything looking perfect? You gotta have some bumps in the road every once in a while. Smoothing them out would be disingenuous. Not to mention, the lighting in Incredibles 2 is WAY too saturated and warm to work with the first film's story. Sure they could just desaturate it to match the original's more closely, but still. There's a reason why CG movie remasters don't exist in the same way game remasters do. They're simply just not needed if the original presentation still holds up. Besides, if too much was changed or it replaces the original version, imagine what the discourse would've like. If you ask me, it wouldn't be too far off from Star Wars special edition discourse and/or people complained about Tony and Andy's redesigns. And while sure other studios could benefit off of this idea and create something amazing, in Disney and Pixar's case??? Unless they play their cards right, I don't see it.
True. This film was so surface and meh. It would have been great if it was made with a purpose other than "sequel." I'd have loved to have seen college-aged Violet and Dash trying to deal with growing up. Dash is a perpetual child, while Violet is struggling with anxiety-depression. Bob and Helene want to help, but realize this is one place they cannot be heroes in, swooping in to save the day.
So many random UA-cam comments under videos about Incredibles 2, that explain a potential alternative videos about what the movie could have been, sound much more interesting than the actual It's possible that the producers wanted a better movie but couldn't because of lack of time (the movie release date was anticipated by a WHOLE YEAR because of Toy Story 4's postponed release date)

Not gonna lie, I really thought that Screenslaver was going to be Rick, the government agent. He "goes on vacation" right as Screenslaver shows up, we know he has access to mind-altering government technology, he's been set up in the first movie and has a level of mystery around him but had been established as a friend to the family nonetheless. The plot would have been way more interesting if Rick saw public opinion going against supers once more and decided to invent a supervillain for the Incredibles to defeat to keep public opinion high and thus make his own job easier. It would have shown an interesting way in which a "pro-super" person, and someone trusted as a public servant, could abuse their power--pulling Syndrome-like tactics, but in a way that is technically beneficial to the Incredibles. They could have even kept the commentary at the end where Screenslaver doesn't even really get in too much trouble for what they did--not because they're rich, but because they're a government agent with impunity. It would have worked so much better with continuing the themes of the first film.
this seems really cool, but one issue is that this wouldn't make sense for Dicker to do as he states in the first movie that this does cost so much money and affects him with loads of work. so why would he do this to himself by being the villain?
The first film had more going on in its story in general. It wasn't afraid to tell the audience of mostly children subjects that only their parents would get through Bob and Helen. It also wasn't afraid to make the situation grim and threatening as it needed to be. It's one of the only Pixar movies with a kill count, and I'd you don't get the heroes being terminated. You'll definitely understand when syndrome gets shredded in a fan blade. The second couldn't live up to that tension and commentary because Pixar figured out they didn't need to try after they made a sequel to cars and it still did decent.
ill never forget recently my nephew came over and my fam turned on the incredibles , he got bored and went downstairs to play while me and my dad were glued to the couch watching the incredibles. It seriously had such adult themes as it touched on marital issues (elastigirl thinking bob was cheating on her) and the mass genocide of supers. Incredibles two was literally targeted towards children, which is fine, but it wasnt even close to the first
When I was little, I loved the movie and thought it was so cool. I would watch it over and over, noticing and realising different things each time, slowly beginning to understand the movie better. Most children have low attention spans these days smh.
YES! Seeing a grown up Violet, Dash, and Jack Jack could have been so cool. But, nah, we got a movie set immediately after the first movie while also taking back all the development the family _just had._
I can understand why Brad Bird didn't do that. Because to him, The Incredibles isn't really a superhero movie, it's a movie about a family who happen to be superheroes. Having the sequel take place many years after the original with the children grown up would just make it a superhero movie.
The constant anger over tiny issues was distracting and felt like they were doing his character a disservice too. I think the only time Bob lost his cool in the first movie was when his boss at the insurance company was going on a power trip and made him watch a guy get assaulted right outside the window.

Incredibles 2 is the prime example of a sequel that simply was never going to match the masterpiece that came before it. Some things are simply better left alone.
you know, thinking about it, syndrome kinda has the right idea that regardless of superpowers, people should be able to become superheroes as well. he went about it in a villainous way, but he had a point, because him not having powers was the reason why bob wouldn't take him in as a sidekick (because it was dangerous for both of them). i was hoping that the sequel would actually explore that idea once again, and start with the incredibles becoming so loved and popular and needed to the point that most of their time are dedicated to the city rather than for their family, doing normal family things. thus, there could be a conflict between the importance of saving the day and being with their loved ones. simultaneously, people see the incredibles and are inspired to also become heroes, but couldn't because they don't have powers. suddenly there's a guy who is distributing a superserum that could make people superheroes. he is the villain but not a completely bad guy, just jealous like syndrome, because he wants to be a superhero to help people. instead the serum backfires and makes monsters out of the people. the serum also affects the supers, making them lose their powers completely. they team up with an underground group of people developing an antidote, and together they stop the monster pandemic and save everyone. the parr family all lost their powers in the process, but showed that even normal people can become superheroes without the superserum or superpowers, but by being themselves. they eventually retire as superheroes and become a normal family, however they never stop helping people by showing off new skills they learned while not having powers. that's honesty what i dreamed of for the sequel before the actual news of the sequel dropped. it's far off from what i imagined, but i guess the film is okay. i still think syndrome has a point, and evelyn is kinda right when she says that the city depended too much on the supers. but eh, the film is okay.
nope, the film sucks. after such a good first movie you can't do this, you just can't. after such a big and epic movie, with such a mysterious and spy-ish feel, with amazing characters, villains and twists... turn it into a smaller "adventure" focused on just one character, without the epicness, nor the spy nor mysterious feel. plus horrible villains and boring side plots. the film sucks.
@@jaski4022I agree. Pretty colors and comedy can't save a pathetic villain, weak writing and lack of direction by Brad Bird. He didn't actually sign off on it when you think about it. The score and animation is great, the story is an undercooked and almost like a mishandled remake of the original.
Imagine an alternate storyline, where Evelyn Dever is the same, but her brother Winston is the real big bad, wanting to draw out all of the remaining Supers in order to straight up kill them, or worse, synthesize something that would permanently generify ALL Supers worldwide. "No more Supers."

@@KnucklesxReala911 No, see the plot would still be about legalizing supers, BUT with a constraint, like they have to be registered with the government(/Winston Dever), which would prompt all of the remaining supers to come out of hiding and register, giving him access to every remaining super in the area and allowing him to progress his evil scheme of wiping them all out. Winston would be aware of Evelyn Dever's silly plans, but not vice versa, until the big reveal at the end.
Y'know, there was an "The Incredibles 2" game released a decade ago, for Windows XP and GameCube (and maybe other platforms), that had the Underminer as the villain, and starred Mr. Incredible and Frozone as the two playable characters. It was a pretty simple beat-em-up type game, with basic puzzles, but it was a 2P-coop game that was quite fun for a much younger me. That game is a thousand times better than the movie we eventually received.

I remember watching this and thinking “Evelyn Deavor… they wouldn’t name the bad guy evil endeavour… that would be so stupid it must be a red herring.” And then she was the bad guy 😒.
The first Incredibles has a special place in my heart and I think it's because as a child it was exciting to be treated like an 'adult' when watching a film. The darker themes weren't babied, and there were very real threats (like the kids being discovered on the jet plane as it's due to explode). I'm tired of this idea that things have to be 'dumbed down' for children, like what happened in the second film; just because it's marketed as a children's film doesn't mean you have to deprive them of a good storyline - sometimes as a child it feels rewarding to feel scared or apprehensive or to encounter more grown up themes like death. Although I'm a lot older now it just felt like a total let down in comparison to something that was so great.
I may be alone at this table, but am I the only one that thinks this movie's coloring is a f&$#ing eyesore? Everyone talks about the animation improving, and while yes, obviously the textures look better due to advanced technology, I do prefer the visuals of the first overall because of its very *intentional* artistic choices. That might sound insane, but I do think the original had a more intentional use of color. The scene where Mr. Incredible is miserable working in an insurance office, and it's almost completely grayscale and low contrast to symbolize all the color being drained out of his life, is one of my favorite uses of color in an animated film ever. In general, I remember the use of color in the original being striking and memorable, using bright pops of color contrasted against more neutral tones to help give more punch to important visuals in the film. In the sequel, every frame looks like someone made an edit of the original by cranking up the saturation too high in a photo editor. As someone obsessed with bright and punching colors, most of Incredibles 2 looks *gaudy* in my opinion, in a way I haven't seen this jarringly from a major studio in a long time. Every light skinned character looks pinkish red half the time in a way I find really unappealing, again, like they just cranked up the saturation of every scene haphazardly, even though lots of bright and colorful animated films don't have that issue? It feels like they were trying to create a comic book color palette without putting in enough effort or time to making sure the color keys of each scene were more balanced and appealing. I frankly do not care that the textures look better, stuff like that is the sprinkles on the icing of the cake for me when the colors of every frame actively hurt my eyes lol

I don't think I can say there was an amazing movie in there at all. Not with what we got, and barely in what was cut. Still mad that they cut that scene. I want that movie, not the dumpster fire we got.
I think the whole magic of the first movie comes not just from the deeper plot points but how the characters are so connected and just makes sense. Helen is at home with the kids as usual until she is called to go save her husband who’s been hiding his secret and she’s assuming the worst and they all come together as a family to defeat the villain in a bad ass fight. In the second it’s just “oh let’s make it Elastigirl based cuz women” like it just felt so cheap and a cop out. They took the easy way out instead of further developing what they already had especially for 14 years at that. I feel like anyone in this comment section could come up with a more enriching storyline
A few people already have. One of 'em suggested the Screenslaver plan could've been run by Rick Dicker and it could've gone conspiratorial. I agree with everyone else who thinks we were robbed of a post time-skip Dash, too.
It kinda twisted Helen’s character too. When she was a young hero, she was carefree and said “Settle down? Come on, ladies, settle down and let the men do all the work? I don’t think so!” When she got older and had a family, she settled down and matured because they had to lay low since superheroes were against the law. She opposed Bob’s desire to live his glory days and told him that he needs to be a father. The only reason she needed to leave the house was because her husband was in danger, not from her free will. The sequel, however, was obviously pushing the feminist agenda. Helen’s character in the first movie knew that her role as a mother was more important than being a hero, but in the sequel, she willingly goes to do hero work because Bob promised he’ll take care of the kids. It’s literally just the first movie, but they reversed the genders. Bob getting a job to do hero work, but ended up being kidnapped, forcing Helen to go out and save him. They literally just reused the plot but reversed the genders. This time, Bob didn’t think Helen was cheating on him. I’m not joking when I say that people ship Helen with that Evelyn, when they just talked and she was revealed to be the villain. It literally wasn’t supported when Helen thought Bob was cheating on her with Mirage, so why is she getting supported by fans to cheat on her husband with a woman? The same woman who turned out to be evil?? What even is going on?
It would've been so easy to make them part of a company dedicated to the research of super genes and offering a chance for supers to have normal children, but the twist is the sister is using it as a front to develop an antidote to super powers. Perfect thematic tie in to the first movie
The Incredibles 2 has such a huge misstep when it feels like the writers thought the best part of the first movie was the status quo at the *lowest* point of the movie.
Honestly there were 2 things in the 2nd I liked, the first was a bunch of superheroes being mind controlled, that doesn't happen often as a plot point, 2nd time is the different powers all the heroes have, mostly enjoyed the idea of how destructive the heroes could be in person while in the first movie it's only really told not shown
Winston being the villain would have been a better story in my mind. Have him be sort of like Syndrome was when he still looked up to Mr. Incredible, and he stages crimes to get supers to look good, but turns on them when they find out and have a problem with it.
frankly, there was a lot of setup for a sequel that takes place years after the original movie, where all of the characters are older and have their own lives. dash being a big star athlete, violet trying to balance her normal life and super hero life, jack jack going through puberty and trying to control his powers, and helen and bob getting older and realizing that they arent as powerful as they used to be, and coming to terms with that and now their kids will have to take the mantel. frankly with the real life decade between the first and second movie, it would have been great for a time skip to see how this world has changed with the return of supers and how society has to adapt! but we didnt get that unfortunately
One thing to note is that Evelyn was originally a last minute replacement for the actual villain they were going for- an evil supercomputer. They just couldn't get it to work with the story they were telling, and by then they were on a deadline, so they invented Evelyn in the middle of pre-production.
I reckon they should've done it so that it skips ahead a couple of years, superheroes are part of the mainstream again, and it sort of goes the Invincible route, maybe Dash, who is a teenager and Violet, a young adult, get their own suits from Edna as a Christmas present, and begin to carve their own identities as superheroes. Balancing that and school-life, trying their best to live up to the legacy of their parents, but also coming in to conflict with them over how they conduct themselves or something like that, or refusing to accept advice from them, until they face a threat that requires them to come together as a family as they did before. A bit similar to Bob's arc, learning that it's okay to need help, but also that youth and energy sometimes just can't beat skill and experience, the previous generations may come off as a bit un-cool, but they know stuff because they've been here longer. And learning the difficult truths, such as no matter how hard you try you can't save everyone. This could lead to them experiencing harrowing events that make them question whether or not they can really be as good as their parents. Meanwhile the sub-plot could be that Bob and Helen are fully settled now, Bob having gotten the last bit of super-heroing out of his system after his battles against Syndrome, the Omnidroid, and the Underminer, fully takes on his responsibilities as a father, and with Helen's help really gets to experience the things that he almost missed in the first film, and also maybe they train Jack-Jack in the use of his powers. Their marriage is very much revived, and now they just want make the life they have built together the best it can be, but once more they are forced to step back into the frame, to help their oldest and middle child, whether they ask for it or not. They have learned their lessons in the first film, and this time are the mentors. Keeping the darker and more relatable elements.
14 years..... Brad had 14 years and a literal endless amount of possibilities that wouldn't have even need to be that complex... but this.... *THIS IS WHAT HE GIVES US?!?!?!??*
He did not direct this film. Disney cut down his original vision and decided to release this half baked and pretentiously preachy excuse for an Incredibles film. This lacks all the gravitas of the original and even the action is a significant downgrade. Bird knew that he had to make the film more mature, his original vision was compromised. The original villain was not the Screenslaver and was a villain who was much darker and tied to Syndrome. This would have been great would have matched the dark tone of the original film. But no, instead we get a lame excuse for a villain, breakneck pacing that's so quick that we don't have time to invest in. It all, boring exposition drops and THE EXACT TYPE OF SUPERHERO AND VILLAIN EXPOSITION DUMP THAT THE ORIGINAL FILM MOCKED SO MUCH. It's not very good and is more forgettable each time. This just feels like an attempt to cash in on the original, and that it did. It feels like Bird wanted to make this film out of passion, but Disney tore down his original vision and made it completely watered down compared to everything we've seen before. It's not as bad as Cars 2 or Finding Dory, but I find it even worse than Toy Story 4, which I actually liked. Just to clarify, I liked it for a while and have never realized just how lame it actually is.
The only thing I want change is I hope they didn't go the villain reveal, instead just a villain who isn't among the cast, but someone in the background.
One thing I really hated about the movie is that the villain want superheros to be illegal forever. That really bothered me because it makes no sense. Super are already illegal to begin with. So it just makes the goal redundant.
the idea is "My brother has a chance, and I can't just stop this in an obvious way, I need to discretely ruin his plan." It's not "make them illegal" it's "keep them illegal"

It's true, remember that old Ps2 game The Incredibles: Rise Of The Underminer? That made me so excited because The Underminer seems like an epic villain and is in the game as well, and I was so pissed off that he was gone after like 4 minutes of the movie, and didn't see him after that. And I hate that Pixar only really care about modern day graphics now, no adult humor, no good story, just going from A to B and having good graphics, the last Disney Pixar movie that had this was Moana
Regarding 4:13, if the supers were simply underground, I'd think they'd still pick up for the father since they're probably close friends. I don't know if their illegality was ever stated in the movie and if it was please correct me, but I always read this scene as being Syndrome's doing. Gazerbeam is one of the phones, and the first movie made it very clear Syndrome was responsible for the death of Gazerbeam. I never had a problem with this plot point because I saw it as a really cool callback to the first movie.
My ideal Screenslaver would be this... It would have been interesting to see Winston on Evelyn's side, but their motive isn't to make supers illegal. The Deavors capitalize on the supers' comeback and try to market it whilst creating the villains/problems themselves (with mind control like in the movie). Screenslaver had so much more potential in my opinion. It would've been nice to see the supers work alongside the villains like Elastigirl and the Deavors, especially if the Deavors had staged the Underminer, too. If the villain had a deeper, more direct motive as well... again I'll say the Deavors had so much potential
Everyone always says that Incredibles 1 has more "Adult Themes" than two (Don't get me wrong, it does.), but if Screenslaver had actually been who he was supposed to be, then the second movie could have made it's own point. But, of course, Disney *had* to make it a twist villain. Also, I'm the 1000th like on this video.
I liked the idea of focusing more on Elastigirl’s heroics in this movie, since Mr.Incredible had more of the focus last time. But they went overboard. They made Robert out to be a misogynistic simpleton, and his struggles of being an at home Dad were just to make Elastigirl look even more amazing. He was the butt of every joke, and by the end of the movie it left a bad taste in the mouth.
I have a small thought to try to fix this, having not seen the movie: Evilynn and her brother? Are basically the Wonder Twins, but, ever since their father's death, they've had to hide their powers. Bro made a name for himself, and Evilynn's jealous. That's the conflict, she just doesn't want his 'reawakening of the Supers' bill to succeed.
you mention evelyns name being really on the nose, but i never actually connected the dots... however, what did tip me off during the movie that she was the villain is her design. i mean, talk about on the nose, she just sticks out amongst everyone else design-wise. if not her clothes, her hair alone does it for me. shes the only one with messy hair in a world of people with otherwise almost perfectly styled hair. i mean, its the 1960s and the style is meant to at least partially reflect that, and when did people in any 1960s media have messy hair? none that ive ever seen, though granted i dont usually consume 1960s content.
I do think it makes sense that the designs of the new supers aren't in line with the originals, I feel like that's kind of the point. Like you said, Syndrome eliminated most of the supers people knew and loved, and the media explicitly was censoring stuff about supers, so new supers who were born and raised after the glory days or older supers coming into the limelight now with no tangible way to connect to the heroes of yore just had to make do.
In a strange way, i think the best route this could have taken was for Screenslaver to mind control Elastigirl to proclaim that nobody should be super (syndrome nod). Basically the mind control should have had lasting effects, but to proclaim it on TV would have done exactly what Evelyn wanted with none of the side effects.
The problem is that they don't progress the story by tackling the theme of the original in a different way : What implies being exceptional. The original sort of established that there are extraordinary people and that others should accept them in their life. I would have found it interesting to maybe focus on the other side of the coin, the ordinary people. For exemple by making Flash or an older Jack Jack lose its powers to dive into the theme of dealing with losing our powers or what makes us special, what it implies to feel much weaker and live under our past self's shadow. That is still fully coherent with the theme of the movie, but expend on it, nuance it and make a new relatable story with the same premise. As the first story was speaking to the side of us who complains about our real talents and effort not being recognised more than mediocrity, the second one would speak to a side of ourselves who've seen our original talents getting weaker and weaker.
The saddest part is that there are deleted scenes that showcase the strengths of setting this movie right after the first one. Namely, the backstory and subsequent funeral of Gazerbeam. Really giving us that emotional gutpunch to hit home the long term consequences of what Syndrome did, of the *genocide* he commited.
Disney cut it down because they don't want to scare children. This is the same time when Spider-Verse killed off 616 Peter Parker and showed blood on it's characters. The stylization added to the adult nature of it. Anyone agree?
14 years passed in the real world between Incredibles 1 and 2, but only 14 seconds passed in the movie timeline. They literally began the second movie exactly where the first one left off. It would have been nicer to set this movie a few years in the future, with the kids now young adults, and Jack Jack learning to use his powers. Perhaps they could have explored some new villains and new conflicts, and had the entire family fight TOGETHER (remember that family was literally a main theme of the first movie - the Parrs overcame numerous conflicts, including bratty children fighting with their parents and Helen suspecting Bob of an affair, to always support each other and fight together).
I think the back story to the father dying was that the supers were battling in the city, with the father there. Then it's that the super couldn't make it in time to save the father from the bad guy, seeding hatred for supers that they couldn't save them, because the good guy can't always save everyone, but the sister just doesn't see that.
But the worst thing about this movie was how Dash and Violet realised, while sitting in the car after escaping from their house "oh, the goggles mind control the supers." Then, they go to the yacht, beat up several supers wearing goggles, and while they're knocked out... don't remove the goggles?? Like they knew? They already figured it out? And then they just... let them continue to be mind controlled?? Super weird beat for them to explicitly state it and then not act on it, just so Jack-Jack can have some special moment with his mama or something. If they really want that Jack-Jack moment to be special, then maybe don't put in a scene where they spell it out for themselves.
My only thing is with the "He called the heroes but none answered" Like dude, the robber is ~5 seconds away from killing you. Even if they answered, what could've changed?
Having watched it multiple times, I believe the failure was the advertising and hype. I'm not saying the first wasn't better, but the fact that going in, we knew literally nothing about the first film, made it 100x better. Contrast that with the sequel, and we already had months of speculation around Evelyn being the villain... which to me, killed the film. Imagine going into the first one knowing Syndrome was Buddy... knowing months of analysis and breakdown... it wouldn't have had nearly the same effect. Don't believe me? Go watch the 2 trailers from 2004... they give literally nothing away about the film other than it's about a super hero family. Contrast that with the second film and we get the same style trailers, which was fine... but also tons of additional lore... and we're pros now. There are tons of sources dedicated to breaking this stuff down, and we are obsessed with it (myself included) to the point where we ruin the movie before it begins. I'm still saying the first was better... but give the second its due... because looking at them side by side, it was almost set up to be "met expectation" at best. Just my 2 cents.
@bestaround3323 not going to disagree there. It certainly wasn't to the caliber it should have been... but "somewhat disappointed" is different than an abysmal failure, which many are claiming. While I certainly was satisfied, there were numerous instances where the scenes and dialog, and even animation felt off, especially for Pixar standards.
I have a personal theory that the incredibles 2 was a direct to DVD sequel that was made with a lot of recycled material, but was never released. Then someone found it in the Disney vault.
Personally the way I would rewrite the story of Incredibles 2 would be theme/plot. I would explore Bob and how he is rethinking on how he treats people after what happened to Syndrome. Regardless Bob is still a big factor of Syndrome’s existence. The movie would start off how the same way. Attempt to stop the Underminer but instead of getting arrested they manage to get away before they cops come. Back to Bob’s plot. I would have the store be that he wouldn’t reject his kids or wife from doing anything. Which would turn out to be a bad thing because he doesn’t want the same thing to happen that happened to Syndrome. This is more of an idea to where the story should be at.
Feels like the movie was ok but only just ok. I think some things needed to be thought on a bit more, such as Evelyn's motive as the way her dad died that jump-starts her path to be evil is rather unimpressive.

The first mistake was them setting the movie directly after the 1st one. I'm sorry, but I feel like keeping the family dynamic the same and not exploring what an adult Violet, teen Dash and a Jack Jack who had *just* started to master his powers was a *massive* wasted opportunity. Not to mention Helen and Bob dealing with the fact that their superhero days might well and truly be behind them, simply due to their age. The second mistake really was the villain. Sure, it was always going to be tough to live up to Syndrome who was and still is *amazing* . But the Screenslaver was really cool in concept, however the execution was fumbled *so badly* , especially cause their motivation was so arse backwards while having none of the menace or charm that made their predeccesor so interesting. And it would have been fixed if instead of trying to get Supers outlawed all over again, the Screenslaver instead wanted to create a threat that would ensure that Supers would be needed *forever* A complete inverse of their motivation in the movie, but also an inverse of Syndrome who just wanted the glory all for himself.
I think a more physical threat would’ve been a better idea because it would give more time to the characters while making the villain a decent amount of presence
My biggest beef with the movie is with the character "Void". A few years before this movie came out, I was part of an online LEGO building group and we had a super hero themed sub group (it's still active on Flickr). We'd create super heroes and super villains to inhabit "Bricklyn" and "New Block City". One of mine was a villain named, "The Void". He used shadows, but also short range Portals called voids; hence, his name had double meaning. Disney stole my character, and just gender swapped him and made him into a hero, but in doing so lost the whole allure of the character so that I wouldn't sue.
Dang dude that sucks I'm sorry to hear that. But that character you created is still a really cool concept one even better than the one they came up with so I would continue to work and add more detail to the character so that way maybe you could create a comic or sell the idea to a studio with your name attached

Just obvious asf as my character bio specifically referred to the portals as "Voids" as what his/her name was derived from (villain cloaked in darkness, unknown secret identity, dark/shadow powers, dark tendrils/whips, short-range portals or "voids", and can disappear into any shadow and vanish entirely) and I've never heard of anyone else refer to portals as voids, especially since mine were named such due to using shadows i.e. void of light. The Void was the arch nemesis and catalyst for my hero character PRISM's entire bio.
If I were to script doctor this here would be my pitch given the pieces of 1. A Lawyer-Type wanting to bring Supers Back 2. The Screen Slaver Villian/ Commentary on "living through tv screens" and 3. The incredibles family life. I would have the overall theming and message (as many have expressed) be the opposite of sydromes. There are special people who excell more than others but where our Villainous twist would come in is that our villain believes that those special people DESERVE to be in charge and that the "little people" should be under their boot and just leave there lives and descions to them. As well as critizing social media, Instagram culture, hero worship, devotion to pudlic figures and group think. The Incredibles would be dealing with hero worship throughout the movie, getting more and more accolades for their heroics and (like in the original) inspiring new heroes. But the difference here is that many of these heroes would be getting in for the wrong reasons. For glory, for Fame, for Money. We would have our Lawyer character going to bat for the heroes but also downplaying any mistakes that they make or criticizism put towards them and having him promot a lack of accountability. The Underminer would also be popping up throughout the movie anytime the new heroes cause too much damage or get into trouble and it would be revealed that he's been employed by the screen slaver to essentially be a punching bag to make heroes look good whenever they start to lose favour with the public. The Incredibles as a family would have to learn and struggle throughout with how the hero worship affects them as a family and individually and the strife that their inflated egos clashing would cause in the family and by the end learning that just because they have more power and abilities than others does not mean they are always right. Our ending fight would see screen slaver use mind control to brainwash the new supers and whole city to take down the incredibles with the Incredibles having to protect the brainwashed citizen while fighting them and making their way to Screen Slaver. In the end Screen Slaver is defeated and the family settles into a life of properly balancing their normal life with heroics. Helping others out of good intentions and keeping themselves grounded among those they serve.
Couple of things. One, I legitimately prefer the animation and art style of the first film. Can you tell that it’s from 2004? Yes. Do I love it? Also yes. Two, maybe I’m remembering this wrong but aren’t all of the new supers wearing Galbaki instead of suits by Edna? And all of the heroes we see in the first Incredibles are wearing the suits they wore in the 40s (the opening sequence takes place in 1947 and the rest of the film takes place in 1962). With all that in mind it makes sense that their suits would look so different aesthetically speaking. Honestly maybe the filmmakers intended for them to look bad.
What still really miffs me is how they just- didn't even address any of the events of the first movie. You know, the reason why in movie they had to actively search for supers since almost everyone else from the Golden Days had been killed during Syndrome's *genocide.* Yeah, let's not split hairs here. That infamous scene where Bob finds out exactly what Syndrome was planning on doing, seeing that screen flash and the blip that comes with it? That blip doesn't stop until Bob decides to see if Helen/Lucius are okay. It actually becomes monotonous, just background noise. It's a legitimately chilling scene when you realize that you can't even really tell the amount of people- the amount of *Bob's FRIENDS* are dead, especially when it fades into background noise because at this point so many supers are dead that Bob/you has become twistedly desensitized to it. There's a deleted scene where Bob is speaking at a memorial service for Gazerbeam and all of the other fallen Supers. Bob is giving a eulogy speech about Gazerbeam. He talks about his interactions with him and it doesn't feel awkward. There's heart, there's light humor, there's this *beautiful* scene that shows all of the remaining people from the Golden Days (which comprise *only* of Rick, Frozone and Elastigirl linking hands together) It's around 5 minutes and it's more faithful to everything The Incredibles stood for than this very film.
Watched the film for the first time recently and picked up that Helen and Bob's character was off at times saying and doing things that didn't feel right dispite it being still in the 2004 period.
I always thought it was silly how, at they end of the first movie it's implied that they are about to start a whole on war with mole people, but despite the fact that the world was clearly saved, heroes were still not made legal again after all that.
You would think they would do a time skip seeing how long ago the original movie released. Instead they picked off right after the first and literally did the same story line with Mrs. Incredible as the main, but with a worst villain. Pixar is well known for their story telling so for them to make such a generic, almost fan fiction, storyline for the sequel is shocking.
I started this comment thinking I’d just make a few small points for fun but it turned into an essay so apologies in advance to anyone reading this on what is currently a 7-month-old video As similar as Evelyn’s motives are to Syndrome’s, hers might’ve been a more compelling take had they actually doubled down on the implication at the very end of the first film that supers were legal again. The entire family look at each other and wear their masks in confidence. Cut to the Underminer fight that starts the sequel and suddenly Helen expresses reservations because oh, turns out the writers backtracked and supers are actually still illegal. I know this video lightly touched on that but it really does stick out to me as a core of the movie’s issues because it highlights the lack of cohesion. The city’s initial response to the Incredibles’ involvement against the Underminer also proves the pointlessness of Evelyn’s entire mission; governments/officials still hate supers getting involved and rely on the systems they have in place, despite the climax of the original. So who the hell is Evelyn talking to when she hijacks Elastigirl’s interview and recites an entire speech about everyone’s weakness? Does the general public still adore supers? Well they can’t because Winston’s goals are about improving the public’s perception, right? But then we see random people gawking at Elastigirl as she simply rides out?? It’s such a weird juxtaposition and the movie can’t make up its mind. At least they spell it out this time with a judge slamming a gavel so in another decade Incredibles 3 will actually have to do something new. That is if they don’t pull a Star Wars 😐 The introduction of new supers would’ve gone better if they weren’t actually “new” at all, but heroes from the past who Helen and Bob recognize. Well you could keep Voyd or something since she does represent a newer generation as a whole which I don’t really mind. Maybe Syndrome really did take out the majority of the old crowd - we knew he was slowly building up the Omnidroid to handle supers on Bob’s level - but they should’ve at least kept the new guys more in line with the retro-future-60s look and I would’ve vibed with it more. The ones who bother me the most though are the ones with supernatural appearances. Every single super we’d seen previously was extremely humanoid, which lent itself to secret identities and the premise that they’d all been forced into hiding. How the fuck is a wall of a man with hands the size of boulders and a voice unlike anything else supposed to have a secret indentity in the first place. Like at that point don’t even wear a mask dude. Bob’s initial jealousy that Helen gets the superhero spotlight is annoying considering his arc in the original ended with him coming to value his family and deciding he wouldn’t shove them aside in chasing the glory days. I at least appreciate him getting over it and actively putting that effort in. But it’s also annoying that the reasoning behind Helen’s role as the face of supers in the new age has to retcon Bob’s abilities too. His action scenes in the first film showcased his resourcefulness, wits, and stealth. Now you’re telling me Elastigirl is the best play because we can’t have Mr. Incredible making a mess of things? Again, Syndrome’s plan took into account Bob as a major obstacle of his high tech robot. He idolized the guy for a reason. Bob was essentially the super of supers, with not just enhanced strength but agility and speed, revered for his heroics as seen on his wall of accolades, but now he’s been relegated to the guy who punches first and thinks second. Leaving the kids to rescue the supers is a really cool concept imo that would’ve been more satisfying if it had tied to any themes or conflicts previously set up, but like Violet’s boy problems, it doesn’t. And half their time is spent keeping Jack-Jack in line with almost no real stakes until the suit controller is broken. It was admittedly a little more vague, but I always interpreted that the ending of the first movie also implied the family had discovered his powers before the Underminer’s appearance. Dude was masked up with the rest of em. Regardless, nothing cool comes out of that aspect besides the reappearance of Edna. And it’s a good thing the writers invented powers for him as they went along so he could just solve the heavy outmatching between the kids and adults by levitating his mom’s goggles off…? I’m not sure if this point is just me, I know Dash is meant to be kind of annoying in the original but somehow he feels like ten times more of a brat in the sequel. His acting out in school was the result of not having an effective outlet for his energy, and his clashing with Violet felt believable. I think plenty siblings of a similar age gap would agree. Poking fun at a crush, arguing over blame for little things, the misunderstanding of Bob and Helen’s relationship issues, it seemed like natural immaturity he’d soon outgrow. Now he comes across as a kid who misbehaves for the sake of it, pressing buttons because they’re buttons and completely disregarding his sister’s lashing out. Like dude that is a real, full size car equipped with destructive weaponry PUT DOWN THE REMOTE Violet also just doesn’t seem like the character she’d become by the end of the first movie, not much else on that to say that other comments didn’t already highlight The Incredibles is one of my favorite films of all time, and I can’t even call Incredibles 2 a “perfect” failure because there’s nothing perfect about it (well the music still goes pretty hard). It’s just a failure of a sequel through and through, which is a damn shame considering the director had said over the years before its reveal that he wasn’t going to revisit this world until he had a new story worth telling. This doesn’t feel like that story
It’s a shame cause ScreenSlaver was an interesting villain. It’s unfortunately squandered by the fact that they decided to set the movie immediately after the first one, when they should have stuck with the original rumoured concept of them having a big time jump to where the family is much older and wiser.
I hated Incredibles 2, it felt more like an extended episode of a weekly TV series than a sequel to a classic movie. The only good thing I can say about it, is that it made me appreciate even more how brilliant the first one was. I kinda took it for granted before, but now I see how special movies like that are.
when the Incredibles 2 was announced, I expecte The Underminer to be the main villain, and was thoroughly dissappointed when he turned into a glorified footnote to progress the story. I demand justice for the Underminer

Haven't seen the vid yet, but these are my problems with the sequel: 1. In the first 10 min it undoes everything the first one did. This is complete bs. Superheroes should not be outlawed after the Incredibles and Frozone saved ppl from the robot. And Tony being mind wiped is also pretty bs. 2. Villain. Spoiler. Evelyn Deavor is the worst. Her plan is to help her bro attempt to get heroes back, so she can cause a massive incident...to keep heroes illegal??? Heroes are already illegal - just refuse to help your bro!!! I hate the Hollywood trend of emasculating men and making women total badasses, but in this film, it was a complete bait & switch w/no reason. Her bro should have been the main antagonist. Additionally, Screenslaver is a fantastic villain. The mid-movie Screenslaver monologue was SO COOL. "You don't believe in reality, instead you watch reality shows." If Screenslaver was a standalone enemy, it would've been so much cooler and more badass. 3. Forgettable. Others have pointed this out, but it bears repeating. This film quickly becomes very standard and route fair. It's biggest crime is how inoffensive and by the numbers it is. Corporate interference ses to have it's grubby fingerprints all over the film. And one can tell because all the parts with Jack Jack were pretty damn funny and were made really, REALLY well. Brad Bird's heart wasn't in this one Edit: I do have to say that for se reason, the underminer was a much more intriguing villain than what we got with Evelyn. Which is funny, because Bomb Voyage was super memorable in the original, despite being in the film for no more than 10 minutes. If they focused on the underminer more and brought back Bomb for a final, post credit scene, it would've been so good :')
Personally I felt they were just repeating the 1st movie. Maybe have the family actually succeed at defeating the villain and eventually lead to supers no longer being illegal? 🤷
This movie has not one but TWO train chase scenes that mirror the shit out of the SINGLE train scene in the intro of the og Incredibles. That’s enough for me to call it a terrible sequel
I’ll never understand why the Underminer wasn’t the main villain of this movie. It makes the game “The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer” a more worthy sequel than the actual movie sequel.
A better sequel would be if it was actually a prequel and the main protagonist was syndrome when he was taking out all of the other supers..the disc 2 of the original was so interesting and really made that universe bigger
I would have the villain be the opposite of syndrome. Have the villain love superheros and want them back. Have him be a villain because he wants to bring superheroes back. He doesn't care who he hurts. It could be a commentary on extremism and radicalization. Could be really cool.

I miss the kind of ominous tone present in the first movie. It has more of a sinister, mystery feel than the second... also the second one has much less of a 'retro' feel to its' overall design :c
Yeah the second one felt very generic, like any other kids movie. As an example, take the design of the new superheros. All the costumes look very cartoonish and generic, whereas the first one had costumes that looked more sophisticated and had that retro feel to them.
It's due to how when Pixar became owned by Disney, Disney focused on making sequels from classics as a cash grab - Brittney React's Video, "Disney is Killing Pixar And They Need Our Help" goes more in-depth about it and other issues Pixar is facing due to Disney's Ownership.

I disliked how Mr. Incredible was treated a bit like he'd never really been involved in his kids' raising and was completely unprepared for caring for them. Jack Jack is fine for "not prepared," but Dash and Violet should be fairly easy for him to deal with. Not that the commentary on Common Core with Dash's math assignment wasn't on point.
They’re poking fun at his character from the last movie. He was very uninvolved as part of the plot. That’s why Helen wanted him to give up on being a supe in secret. It also takes place like directly after the first one so there’s no reason to make it seem like he’d changed much in that regard
It is kinda true though, the first one he was mostly concerned for being a superhero. During the dinner scene at the start he wasn’t even listening to what happened to Dash, only getting interested in the fact his powers were developing further.
Second one he realizes how important it is to be more involved with his kids and family, although a bit exaggerated, the fact he looks so worn out from staying on top of a baby and help his teenage daughter dating, and his sons homework goes to show that it can be a tiresome to be a parent but it’s such an important thing to do. That being said, first movie is still overall much better lol
While I do agree with the last two comments, I just feel like it would have been better if Bob, for two or three days, turned out to be incredibly good at taking of the children on his own. And then he realizes, as the days go by, how hard the whole parenting thing is.
What I am trying to say is that a more impactful message for this movie wouldn't have been "Being a parent is hard" but rather "Being a parent EVERYDAY is incredibly hard"
In the movie, Bob is already struggling during his first day.
Just like Cinema Therapy said "Being a parent isn't complex, it's just really exhausting to have to do that everyday for 18 to 20 years"

My biggest peeve is always that they made Violet go from a very timid and shy girl only beginning to spread her wings to hyper hormonal teenager who has outbursts every five minutes. Especially since the end of the first movie is only minutes, or hours, away from the begining of the second. And she was already very loud and obnoxious at the start of the second film.
Violet would never act like that when Toby had her memory erased from his brain. If anything, she would just be heartbroken, she wouldn’t lash out at her dad. Also why is she so boy crazy? Toby only crossed her mind twice in the first movie, but in the sequel, she’s so Toby obsessed.
the sequel happens 3 months after the events of the first one. that's plenty of time for her to come out of her shell and gain confidence.

I wish they had gone this route, it would have also been enough time for the old pro-supers and anti-supers debate plat to be established as well, with people at first being lost in the nostalgia of the "old days" but then people who actually lived through it (or at least the end of the era) could be all "man, the adults at the time had a point, supers are dangerous, there's too much collateral damage being done" (said collateral damage being overblown by news outlets for drama and views.
It could still keeps its message about how people spend too much time looking at their screens and paying attention to frivolous news etc.
The biggest thing I hated about this movie was how the leat scene of the first one shows how the par's are now fighting as a family, and the second one opens with absolutely none of that

I saw the second one first cause I didn’t grow up with the first and I thought it was fine. Later on I watched the first after hearing so much about it and it’s such a classic good movie even with all the super hero saturation. There is a lot of passion in the first one while the second feels so by the numbers of what you can find any basic kids movie.

I'm not gonna lie I liked incredible 2,but what I miss abt it was u could actually feel the tension, had a grey noir style feeling, and when it came to the action of the super heros you could actually feel the danger and the possibility they could get seriously injured, the best scene for me was the reveal of the amount of super heroes that were terminated like it just shows how dire the situation could get, but part 2 was just to bright the action felt fast and timid with no sought of weight and intention in it
Also that scene where Mrs. Incredible explains to the kids that these guys really will hurt you and aren’t like bad guys on tv. That made it feel so much more real

Meh. Not necessary. Even if the original's slightly dated visually, it still holds up pretty well today thanks to it's unique artstyle. Plus even if the sequel has better character models and more detailed environments, why bother spending money to reanimate the first movie with the sequel's assets? Sure it could amplify the experience of that original film, but where's the fun in everything looking perfect? You gotta have some bumps in the road every once in a while. Smoothing them out would be disingenuous. Not to mention, the lighting in Incredibles 2 is WAY too saturated and warm to work with the first film's story. Sure they could just desaturate it to match the original's more closely, but still. There's a reason why CG movie remasters don't exist in the same way game remasters do. They're simply just not needed if the original presentation still holds up. Besides, if too much was changed or it replaces the original version, imagine what the discourse would've like. If you ask me, it wouldn't be too far off from Star Wars special edition discourse and/or people complained about Tony and Andy's redesigns. And while sure other studios could benefit off of this idea and create something amazing, in Disney and Pixar's case??? Unless they play their cards right, I don't see it.

True. This film was so surface and meh. It would have been great if it was made with a purpose other than "sequel." I'd have loved to have seen college-aged Violet and Dash trying to deal with growing up. Dash is a perpetual child, while Violet is struggling with anxiety-depression. Bob and Helene want to help, but realize this is one place they cannot be heroes in, swooping in to save the day.
So many random UA-cam comments under videos about Incredibles 2, that explain a potential alternative videos about what the movie could have been, sound much more interesting than the actual
It's possible that the producers wanted a better movie but couldn't because of lack of time (the movie release date was anticipated by a WHOLE YEAR because of Toy Story 4's postponed release date)

I think missing the adult tone perfectly describes what was wrong with this movie. In the first Movie, Helen says, to Paraphrase "These guys aren't like your Saturday Morning Cartoons", wheres this one did feel like that. Which was a shame, because I was hyped for it
Not gonna lie, I really thought that Screenslaver was going to be Rick, the government agent. He "goes on vacation" right as Screenslaver shows up, we know he has access to mind-altering government technology, he's been set up in the first movie and has a level of mystery around him but had been established as a friend to the family nonetheless. The plot would have been way more interesting if Rick saw public opinion going against supers once more and decided to invent a supervillain for the Incredibles to defeat to keep public opinion high and thus make his own job easier. It would have shown an interesting way in which a "pro-super" person, and someone trusted as a public servant, could abuse their power--pulling Syndrome-like tactics, but in a way that is technically beneficial to the Incredibles. They could have even kept the commentary at the end where Screenslaver doesn't even really get in too much trouble for what they did--not because they're rich, but because they're a government agent with impunity. It would have worked so much better with continuing the themes of the first film.

this seems really cool, but one issue is that this wouldn't make sense for Dicker to do as he states in the first movie that this does cost so much money and affects him with loads of work. so why would he do this to himself by being the villain?
The first film had more going on in its story in general. It wasn't afraid to tell the audience of mostly children subjects that only their parents would get through Bob and Helen. It also wasn't afraid to make the situation grim and threatening as it needed to be. It's one of the only Pixar movies with a kill count, and I'd you don't get the heroes being terminated. You'll definitely understand when syndrome gets shredded in a fan blade. The second couldn't live up to that tension and commentary because Pixar figured out they didn't need to try after they made a sequel to cars and it still did decent.
ill never forget recently my nephew came over and my fam turned on the incredibles , he got bored and went downstairs to play while me and my dad were glued to the couch watching the incredibles. It seriously had such adult themes as it touched on marital issues (elastigirl thinking bob was cheating on her) and the mass genocide of supers. Incredibles two was literally targeted towards children, which is fine, but it wasnt even close to the first

When I was little, I loved the movie and thought it was so cool. I would watch it over and over, noticing and realising different things each time, slowly beginning to understand the movie better. Most children have low attention spans these days smh.

I can understand why Brad Bird didn't do that. Because to him, The Incredibles isn't really a superhero movie, it's a movie about a family who happen to be superheroes. Having the sequel take place many years after the original with the children grown up would just make it a superhero movie.

Incredibles 2 is the prime example of a sequel that simply was never going to match the masterpiece that came before it. Some things are simply better left alone.
you know, thinking about it, syndrome kinda has the right idea that regardless of superpowers, people should be able to become superheroes as well. he went about it in a villainous way, but he had a point, because him not having powers was the reason why bob wouldn't take him in as a sidekick (because it was dangerous for both of them). i was hoping that the sequel would actually explore that idea once again, and start with the incredibles becoming so loved and popular and needed to the point that most of their time are dedicated to the city rather than for their family, doing normal family things. thus, there could be a conflict between the importance of saving the day and being with their loved ones. simultaneously, people see the incredibles and are inspired to also become heroes, but couldn't because they don't have powers. suddenly there's a guy who is distributing a superserum that could make people superheroes. he is the villain but not a completely bad guy, just jealous like syndrome, because he wants to be a superhero to help people. instead the serum backfires and makes monsters out of the people. the serum also affects the supers, making them lose their powers completely. they team up with an underground group of people developing an antidote, and together they stop the monster pandemic and save everyone. the parr family all lost their powers in the process, but showed that even normal people can become superheroes without the superserum or superpowers, but by being themselves. they eventually retire as superheroes and become a normal family, however they never stop helping people by showing off new skills they learned while not having powers.
that's honesty what i dreamed of for the sequel before the actual news of the sequel dropped. it's far off from what i imagined, but i guess the film is okay. i still think syndrome has a point, and evelyn is kinda right when she says that the city depended too much on the supers. but eh, the film is okay.

@@jaski4022I agree. Pretty colors and comedy can't save a pathetic villain, weak writing and lack of direction by Brad Bird. He didn't actually sign off on it when you think about it. The score and animation is great, the story is an undercooked and almost like a mishandled remake of the original.
I can't express how disappointed I was when I was watching this movie.
Imagine an alternate storyline, where Evelyn Dever is the same, but her brother Winston is the real big bad, wanting to draw out all of the remaining Supers in order to straight up kill them, or worse, synthesize something that would permanently generify ALL Supers worldwide. "No more Supers."
That’s actually what I thought was going on at first. I was like, “Evelyn would be way too obvious, they’re not gonna do that!” And then they, y’know. Did that.

@@KnucklesxReala911 No, see the plot would still be about legalizing supers, BUT with a constraint, like they have to be registered with the government(/Winston Dever), which would prompt all of the remaining supers to come out of hiding and register, giving him access to every remaining super in the area and allowing him to progress his evil scheme of wiping them all out. Winston would be aware of Evelyn Dever's silly plans, but not vice versa, until the big reveal at the end.
Maybe connect them to Sansweet and/or Huph. One last bit of revenge.

Y'know, there was an "The Incredibles 2" game released a decade ago, for Windows XP and GameCube (and maybe other platforms), that had the Underminer as the villain, and starred Mr. Incredible and Frozone as the two playable characters. It was a pretty simple beat-em-up type game, with basic puzzles, but it was a 2P-coop game that was quite fun for a much younger me.
That game is a thousand times better than the movie we eventually received.
I played it for the Playstation 2. It was my favourite game as a kid and it was AMAZIGN!

I remember watching this and thinking “Evelyn Deavor… they wouldn’t name the bad guy evil endeavour… that would be so stupid it must be a red herring.” And then she was the bad guy 😒.
The first Incredibles has a special place in my heart and I think it's because as a child it was exciting to be treated like an 'adult' when watching a film. The darker themes weren't babied, and there were very real threats (like the kids being discovered on the jet plane as it's due to explode). I'm tired of this idea that things have to be 'dumbed down' for children, like what happened in the second film; just because it's marketed as a children's film doesn't mean you have to deprive them of a good storyline - sometimes as a child it feels rewarding to feel scared or apprehensive or to encounter more grown up themes like death. Although I'm a lot older now it just felt like a total let down in comparison to something that was so great.
The original also seemed like a love letter to superhero stories to me. Smart and witty, I loved it. c':

Everyone talks about the animation improving, and while yes, obviously the textures look better due to advanced technology, I do prefer the visuals of the first overall because of its very *intentional* artistic choices. That might sound insane, but I do think the original had a more intentional use of color. The scene where Mr. Incredible is miserable working in an insurance office, and it's almost completely grayscale and low contrast to symbolize all the color being drained out of his life, is one of my favorite uses of color in an animated film ever. In general, I remember the use of color in the original being striking and memorable, using bright pops of color contrasted against more neutral tones to help give more punch to important visuals in the film.
In the sequel, every frame looks like someone made an edit of the original by cranking up the saturation too high in a photo editor. As someone obsessed with bright and punching colors, most of Incredibles 2 looks *gaudy* in my opinion, in a way I haven't seen this jarringly from a major studio in a long time. Every light skinned character looks pinkish red half the time in a way I find really unappealing, again, like they just cranked up the saturation of every scene haphazardly, even though lots of bright and colorful animated films don't have that issue? It feels like they were trying to create a comic book color palette without putting in enough effort or time to making sure the color keys of each scene were more balanced and appealing. I frankly do not care that the textures look better, stuff like that is the sprinkles on the icing of the cake for me when the colors of every frame actively hurt my eyes lol

I think the whole magic of the first movie comes not just from the deeper plot points but how the characters are so connected and just makes sense. Helen is at home with the kids as usual until she is called to go save her husband who’s been hiding his secret and she’s assuming the worst and they all come together as a family to defeat the villain in a bad ass fight. In the second it’s just “oh let’s make it Elastigirl based cuz women” like it just felt so cheap and a cop out. They took the easy way out instead of further developing what they already had especially for 14 years at that. I feel like anyone in this comment section could come up with a more enriching storyline
A few people already have. One of 'em suggested the Screenslaver plan could've been run by Rick Dicker and it could've gone conspiratorial. I agree with everyone else who thinks we were robbed of a post time-skip Dash, too.
It kinda twisted Helen’s character too. When she was a young hero, she was carefree and said “Settle down? Come on, ladies, settle down and let the men do all the work? I don’t think so!” When she got older and had a family, she settled down and matured because they had to lay low since superheroes were against the law. She opposed Bob’s desire to live his glory days and told him that he needs to be a father. The only reason she needed to leave the house was because her husband was in danger, not from her free will.
The sequel, however, was obviously pushing the feminist agenda. Helen’s character in the first movie knew that her role as a mother was more important than being a hero, but in the sequel, she willingly goes to do hero work because Bob promised he’ll take care of the kids. It’s literally just the first movie, but they reversed the genders. Bob getting a job to do hero work, but ended up being kidnapped, forcing Helen to go out and save him. They literally just reused the plot but reversed the genders. This time, Bob didn’t think Helen was cheating on him. I’m not joking when I say that people ship Helen with that Evelyn, when they just talked and she was revealed to be the villain. It literally wasn’t supported when Helen thought Bob was cheating on her with Mirage, so why is she getting supported by fans to cheat on her husband with a woman? The same woman who turned out to be evil?? What even is going on?

Honestly there were 2 things in the 2nd I liked, the first was a bunch of superheroes being mind controlled, that doesn't happen often as a plot point, 2nd time is the different powers all the heroes have, mostly enjoyed the idea of how destructive the heroes could be in person while in the first movie it's only really told not shown
Winston being the villain would have been a better story in my mind. Have him be sort of like Syndrome was when he still looked up to Mr. Incredible, and he stages crimes to get supers to look good, but turns on them when they find out and have a problem with it.

I remember watching this movie when it came out. When I saw it again a month ago I literally couldn’t recall anything in the movie.
frankly, there was a lot of setup for a sequel that takes place years after the original movie, where all of the characters are older and have their own lives. dash being a big star athlete, violet trying to balance her normal life and super hero life, jack jack going through puberty and trying to control his powers, and helen and bob getting older and realizing that they arent as powerful as they used to be, and coming to terms with that and now their kids will have to take the mantel. frankly with the real life decade between the first and second movie, it would have been great for a time skip to see how this world has changed with the return of supers and how society has to adapt! but we didnt get that unfortunately
One thing to note is that Evelyn was originally a last minute replacement for the actual villain they were going for- an evil supercomputer. They just couldn't get it to work with the story they were telling, and by then they were on a deadline, so they invented Evelyn in the middle of pre-production.
I reckon they should've done it so that it skips ahead a couple of years, superheroes are part of the mainstream again, and it sort of goes the Invincible route, maybe Dash, who is a teenager and Violet, a young adult, get their own suits from Edna as a Christmas present, and begin to carve their own identities as superheroes. Balancing that and school-life, trying their best to live up to the legacy of their parents, but also coming in to conflict with them over how they conduct themselves or something like that, or refusing to accept advice from them, until they face a threat that requires them to come together as a family as they did before. A bit similar to Bob's arc, learning that it's okay to need help, but also that youth and energy sometimes just can't beat skill and experience, the previous generations may come off as a bit un-cool, but they know stuff because they've been here longer. And learning the difficult truths, such as no matter how hard you try you can't save everyone. This could lead to them experiencing harrowing events that make them question whether or not they can really be as good as their parents. Meanwhile the sub-plot could be that Bob and Helen are fully settled now, Bob having gotten the last bit of super-heroing out of his system after his battles against Syndrome, the Omnidroid, and the Underminer, fully takes on his responsibilities as a father, and with Helen's help really gets to experience the things that he almost missed in the first film, and also maybe they train Jack-Jack in the use of his powers. Their marriage is very much revived, and now they just want make the life they have built together the best it can be, but once more they are forced to step back into the frame, to help their oldest and middle child, whether they ask for it or not. They have learned their lessons in the first film, and this time are the mentors. Keeping the darker and more relatable elements.
I actually like the concept of the kids becoming their own superheroes. Violet’s hero name would be Ultraviolet and Dash’s…well, Dash.

He did not direct this film. Disney cut down his original vision and decided to release this half baked and pretentiously preachy excuse for an Incredibles film. This lacks all the gravitas of the original and even the action is a significant downgrade. Bird knew that he had to make the film more mature, his original vision was compromised. The original villain was not the Screenslaver and was a villain who was much darker and tied to Syndrome. This would have been great would have matched the dark tone of the original film. But no, instead we get a lame excuse for a villain, breakneck pacing that's so quick that we don't have time to invest in. It all, boring exposition drops and THE EXACT TYPE OF SUPERHERO AND VILLAIN EXPOSITION DUMP THAT THE ORIGINAL FILM MOCKED SO MUCH. It's not very good and is more forgettable each time. This just feels like an attempt to cash in on the original, and that it did. It feels like Bird wanted to make this film out of passion, but Disney tore down his original vision and made it completely watered down compared to everything we've seen before. It's not as bad as Cars 2 or Finding Dory, but I find it even worse than Toy Story 4, which I actually liked. Just to clarify, I liked it for a while and have never realized just how lame it actually is.
The only thing I want change is I hope they didn't go the villain reveal, instead just a villain who isn't among the cast, but someone in the background.
One thing I really hated about the movie is that the villain want superheros to be illegal forever. That really bothered me because it makes no sense. Super are already illegal to begin with. So it just makes the goal redundant.

The fact that this doesn't have a main villain with POWERS is crazy. Wouldn't someone with powers born in the Era with no rights to show them be pissed?? Wouldn't they want revenge and become a villain on a world that didn't want them?

It's true, remember that old Ps2 game The Incredibles: Rise Of The Underminer? That made me so excited because The Underminer seems like an epic villain and is in the game as well, and I was so pissed off that he was gone after like 4 minutes of the movie, and didn't see him after that. And I hate that Pixar only really care about modern day graphics now, no adult humor, no good story, just going from A to B and having good graphics, the last Disney Pixar movie that had this was Moana

Regarding 4:13, if the supers were simply underground, I'd think they'd still pick up for the father since they're probably close friends. I don't know if their illegality was ever stated in the movie and if it was please correct me, but I always read this scene as being Syndrome's doing. Gazerbeam is one of the phones, and the first movie made it very clear Syndrome was responsible for the death of Gazerbeam. I never had a problem with this plot point because I saw it as a really cool callback to the first movie.

It would have been interesting to see Winston on Evelyn's side, but their motive isn't to make supers illegal. The Deavors capitalize on the supers' comeback and try to market it whilst creating the villains/problems themselves (with mind control like in the movie). Screenslaver had so much more potential in my opinion.
It would've been nice to see the supers work alongside the villains like Elastigirl and the Deavors, especially if the Deavors had staged the Underminer, too.
If the villain had a deeper, more direct motive as well... again I'll say the Deavors had so much potential
Everyone always says that Incredibles 1 has more "Adult Themes" than two (Don't get me wrong, it does.), but if Screenslaver had actually been who he was supposed to be, then the second movie could have made it's own point. But, of course, Disney *had* to make it a twist villain.

I liked the idea of focusing more on Elastigirl’s heroics in this movie, since Mr.Incredible had more of the focus last time. But they went overboard. They made Robert out to be a misogynistic simpleton, and his struggles of being an at home Dad were just to make Elastigirl look even more amazing. He was the butt of every joke, and by the end of the movie it left a bad taste in the mouth.
I have a small thought to try to fix this, having not seen the movie: Evilynn and her brother? Are basically the Wonder Twins, but, ever since their father's death, they've had to hide their powers. Bro made a name for himself, and Evilynn's jealous. That's the conflict, she just doesn't want his 'reawakening of the Supers' bill to succeed.
you mention evelyns name being really on the nose, but i never actually connected the dots... however, what did tip me off during the movie that she was the villain is her design. i mean, talk about on the nose, she just sticks out amongst everyone else design-wise. if not her clothes, her hair alone does it for me. shes the only one with messy hair in a world of people with otherwise almost perfectly styled hair. i mean, its the 1960s and the style is meant to at least partially reflect that, and when did people in any 1960s media have messy hair? none that ive ever seen, though granted i dont usually consume 1960s content.

I do think it makes sense that the designs of the new supers aren't in line with the originals, I feel like that's kind of the point. Like you said, Syndrome eliminated most of the supers people knew and loved, and the media explicitly was censoring stuff about supers, so new supers who were born and raised after the glory days or older supers coming into the limelight now with no tangible way to connect to the heroes of yore just had to make do.

In a strange way, i think the best route this could have taken was for Screenslaver to mind control Elastigirl to proclaim that nobody should be super (syndrome nod). Basically the mind control should have had lasting effects, but to proclaim it on TV would have done exactly what Evelyn wanted with none of the side effects.
You can just pretend that the incredibles just ended with the first movie and make up your own version about what happened after that.
The problem is that they don't progress the story by tackling the theme of the original in a different way : What implies being exceptional.
The original sort of established that there are extraordinary people and that others should accept them in their life. I would have found it interesting to maybe focus on the other side of the coin, the ordinary people. For exemple by making Flash or an older Jack Jack lose its powers to dive into the theme of dealing with losing our powers or what makes us special, what it implies to feel much weaker and live under our past self's shadow. That is still fully coherent with the theme of the movie, but expend on it, nuance it and make a new relatable story with the same premise. As the first story was speaking to the side of us who complains about our real talents and effort not being recognised more than mediocrity, the second one would speak to a side of ourselves who've seen our original talents getting weaker and weaker.
The saddest part is that there are deleted scenes that showcase the strengths of setting this movie right after the first one.
Namely, the backstory and subsequent funeral of Gazerbeam. Really giving us that emotional gutpunch to hit home the long term consequences of what Syndrome did, of the *genocide* he commited.
Disney cut it down because they don't want to scare children. This is the same time when Spider-Verse killed off 616 Peter Parker and showed blood on it's characters. The stylization added to the adult nature of it. Anyone agree?
14 years passed in the real world between Incredibles 1 and 2, but only 14 seconds passed in the movie timeline. They literally began the second movie exactly where the first one left off. It would have been nicer to set this movie a few years in the future, with the kids now young adults, and Jack Jack learning to use his powers. Perhaps they could have explored some new villains and new conflicts, and had the entire family fight TOGETHER (remember that family was literally a main theme of the first movie - the Parrs overcame numerous conflicts, including bratty children fighting with their parents and Helen suspecting Bob of an affair, to always support each other and fight together).

I think the back story to the father dying was that the supers were battling in the city, with the father there. Then it's that the super couldn't make it in time to save the father from the bad guy, seeding hatred for supers that they couldn't save them, because the good guy can't always save everyone, but the sister just doesn't see that.
But the worst thing about this movie was how Dash and Violet realised, while sitting in the car after escaping from their house "oh, the goggles mind control the supers."
Then, they go to the yacht, beat up several supers wearing goggles, and while they're knocked out... don't remove the goggles?? Like they knew? They already figured it out? And then they just... let them continue to be mind controlled?? Super weird beat for them to explicitly state it and then not act on it, just so Jack-Jack can have some special moment with his mama or something.
If they really want that Jack-Jack moment to be special, then maybe don't put in a scene where they spell it out for themselves.
My only thing is with the "He called the heroes but none answered"

Having watched it multiple times, I believe the failure was the advertising and hype. I'm not saying the first wasn't better, but the fact that going in, we knew literally nothing about the first film, made it 100x better. Contrast that with the sequel, and we already had months of speculation around Evelyn being the villain... which to me, killed the film. Imagine going into the first one knowing Syndrome was Buddy... knowing months of analysis and breakdown... it wouldn't have had nearly the same effect. Don't believe me? Go watch the 2 trailers from 2004... they give literally nothing away about the film other than it's about a super hero family. Contrast that with the second film and we get the same style trailers, which was fine... but also tons of additional lore... and we're pros now. There are tons of sources dedicated to breaking this stuff down, and we are obsessed with it (myself included) to the point where we ruin the movie before it begins. I'm still saying the first was better... but give the second its due... because looking at them side by side, it was almost set up to be "met expectation" at best.

@bestaround3323 not going to disagree there. It certainly wasn't to the caliber it should have been... but "somewhat disappointed" is different than an abysmal failure, which many are claiming. While I certainly was satisfied, there were numerous instances where the scenes and dialog, and even animation felt off, especially for Pixar standards.

I have a personal theory that the incredibles 2 was a direct to DVD sequel that was made with a lot of recycled material, but was never released. Then someone found it in the Disney vault.

Personally the way I would rewrite the story of Incredibles 2 would be theme/plot. I would explore Bob and how he is rethinking on how he treats people after what happened to Syndrome. Regardless Bob is still a big factor of Syndrome’s existence. The movie would start off how the same way. Attempt to stop the Underminer but instead of getting arrested they manage to get away before they cops come. Back to Bob’s plot. I would have the store be that he wouldn’t reject his kids or wife from doing anything. Which would turn out to be a bad thing because he doesn’t want the same thing to happen that happened to Syndrome. This is more of an idea to where the story should be at.
Feels like the movie was ok but only just ok.
I think some things needed to be thought on a bit more, such as Evelyn's motive as the way her dad died that jump-starts her path to be evil is rather unimpressive.

The first mistake was them setting the movie directly after the 1st one. I'm sorry, but I feel like keeping the family dynamic the same and not exploring what an adult Violet, teen Dash and a Jack Jack who had *just* started to master his powers was a *massive* wasted opportunity.
Not to mention Helen and Bob dealing with the fact that their superhero days might well and truly be behind them, simply due to their age.
The second mistake really was the villain. Sure, it was always going to be tough to live up to Syndrome who was and still is *amazing* .
But the Screenslaver was really cool in concept, however the execution was fumbled *so badly* , especially cause their motivation was so arse backwards while having none of the menace or charm that made their predeccesor so interesting.
And it would have been fixed if instead of trying to get Supers outlawed all over again, the Screenslaver instead wanted to create a threat that would ensure that Supers would be needed *forever*
A complete inverse of their motivation in the movie, but also an inverse of Syndrome who just wanted the glory all for himself.
I think a more physical threat would’ve been a better idea because it would give more time to the characters while making the villain a decent amount of presence
I like the darker and more adult tone the first one had. To me the second one isn’t bad but I wish they kept the same vibe as the first.
My biggest beef with the movie is with the character "Void". A few years before this movie came out, I was part of an online LEGO building group and we had a super hero themed sub group (it's still active on Flickr). We'd create super heroes and super villains to inhabit "Bricklyn" and "New Block City".
One of mine was a villain named, "The Void". He used shadows, but also short range Portals called voids; hence, his name had double meaning. Disney stole my character, and just gender swapped him and made him into a hero, but in doing so lost the whole allure of the character so that I wouldn't sue.

Powers and name. Design bears no similarity. Just obvious asf as my character bio specifically referred to the portals as "Voids" as what his/her name was derived from (villain cloaked in darkness, unknown secret identity, dark/shadow powers, dark tendrils/whips, short-range portals or "voids", and can disappear into any shadow and vanish entirely) and I've never heard of anyone else refer to portals as voids, especially since mine were named such due to using shadows i.e. void of light. The Void was the arch nemesis and catalyst for my hero character PRISM's entire bio.
If I were to script doctor this here would be my pitch given the pieces of 1. A Lawyer-Type wanting to bring Supers Back 2. The Screen Slaver Villian/ Commentary on "living through tv screens" and 3. The incredibles family life.
I would have the overall theming and message (as many have expressed) be the opposite of sydromes. There are special people who excell more than others but where our Villainous twist would come in is that our villain believes that those special people DESERVE to be in charge and that the "little people" should be under their boot and just leave there lives and descions to them. As well as critizing social media, Instagram culture, hero worship, devotion to pudlic figures and group think.
The Incredibles would be dealing with hero worship throughout the movie, getting more and more accolades for their heroics and (like in the original) inspiring new heroes. But the difference here is that many of these heroes would be getting in for the wrong reasons. For glory, for Fame, for Money.
We would have our Lawyer character going to bat for the heroes but also downplaying any mistakes that they make or criticizism put towards them and having him promot a lack of accountability.
The Underminer would also be popping up throughout the movie anytime the new heroes cause too much damage or get into trouble and it would be revealed that he's been employed by the screen slaver to essentially be a punching bag to make heroes look good whenever they start to lose favour with the public.
The Incredibles as a family would have to learn and struggle throughout with how the hero worship affects them as a family and individually and the strife that their inflated egos clashing would cause in the family and by the end learning that just because they have more power and abilities than others does not mean they are always right.
Our ending fight would see screen slaver use mind control to brainwash the new supers and whole city to take down the incredibles with the Incredibles having to protect the brainwashed citizen while fighting them and making their way to Screen Slaver. In the end Screen Slaver is defeated and the family settles into a life of properly balancing their normal life with heroics. Helping others out of good intentions and keeping themselves grounded among those they serve.
Couple of things. One, I legitimately prefer the animation and art style of the first film. Can you tell that it’s from 2004? Yes. Do I love it? Also yes. Two, maybe I’m remembering this wrong but aren’t all of the new supers wearing Galbaki instead of suits by Edna? And all of the heroes we see in the first Incredibles are wearing the suits they wore in the 40s (the opening sequence takes place in 1947 and the rest of the film takes place in 1962). With all that in mind it makes sense that their suits would look so different aesthetically speaking. Honestly maybe the filmmakers intended for them to look bad.

What still really miffs me is how they just- didn't even address any of the events of the first movie. You know, the reason why in movie they had to actively search for supers since almost everyone else from the Golden Days had been killed during Syndrome's *genocide.*
Yeah, let's not split hairs here. That infamous scene where Bob finds out exactly what Syndrome was planning on doing, seeing that screen flash and the blip that comes with it? That blip doesn't stop until Bob decides to see if Helen/Lucius are okay. It actually becomes monotonous, just background noise. It's a legitimately chilling scene when you realize that you can't even really tell the amount of people- the amount of *Bob's FRIENDS* are dead, especially when it fades into background noise because at this point so many supers are dead that Bob/you has become twistedly desensitized to it.
There's a deleted scene where Bob is speaking at a memorial service for Gazerbeam and all of the other fallen Supers. Bob is giving a eulogy speech about Gazerbeam. He talks about his interactions with him and it doesn't feel awkward. There's heart, there's light humor, there's this *beautiful* scene that shows all of the remaining people from the Golden Days (which comprise *only* of Rick, Frozone and Elastigirl linking hands together) It's around 5 minutes and it's more faithful to everything The Incredibles stood for than this very film.
Watched the film for the first time recently and picked up that Helen and Bob's character was off at times saying and doing things that didn't feel right dispite it being still in the 2004 period.
I always thought it was silly how, at they end of the first movie it's implied that they are about to start a whole on war with mole people, but despite the fact that the world was clearly saved, heroes were still not made legal again after all that.
You would think they would do a time skip seeing how long ago the original movie released. Instead they picked off right after the first and literally did the same story line with Mrs. Incredible as the main, but with a worst villain. Pixar is well known for their story telling so for them to make such a generic, almost fan fiction, storyline for the sequel is shocking.

I started this comment thinking I’d just make a few small points for fun but it turned into an essay so apologies in advance to anyone reading this on what is currently a 7-month-old video
As similar as Evelyn’s motives are to Syndrome’s, hers might’ve been a more compelling take had they actually doubled down on the implication at the very end of the first film that supers were legal again. The entire family look at each other and wear their masks in confidence. Cut to the Underminer fight that starts the sequel and suddenly Helen expresses reservations because oh, turns out the writers backtracked and supers are actually still illegal. I know this video lightly touched on that but it really does stick out to me as a core of the movie’s issues because it highlights the lack of cohesion. The city’s initial response to the Incredibles’ involvement against the Underminer also proves the pointlessness of Evelyn’s entire mission; governments/officials still hate supers getting involved and rely on the systems they have in place, despite the climax of the original. So who the hell is Evelyn talking to when she hijacks Elastigirl’s interview and recites an entire speech about everyone’s weakness? Does the general public still adore supers? Well they can’t because Winston’s goals are about improving the public’s perception, right? But then we see random people gawking at Elastigirl as she simply rides out?? It’s such a weird juxtaposition and the movie can’t make up its mind. At least they spell it out this time with a judge slamming a gavel so in another decade Incredibles 3 will actually have to do something new. That is if they don’t pull a Star Wars 😐
The introduction of new supers would’ve gone better if they weren’t actually “new” at all, but heroes from the past who Helen and Bob recognize. Well you could keep Voyd or something since she does represent a newer generation as a whole which I don’t really mind. Maybe Syndrome really did take out the majority of the old crowd - we knew he was slowly building up the Omnidroid to handle supers on Bob’s level - but they should’ve at least kept the new guys more in line with the retro-future-60s look and I would’ve vibed with it more. The ones who bother me the most though are the ones with supernatural appearances. Every single super we’d seen previously was extremely humanoid, which lent itself to secret identities and the premise that they’d all been forced into hiding. How the fuck is a wall of a man with hands the size of boulders and a voice unlike anything else supposed to have a secret indentity in the first place. Like at that point don’t even wear a mask dude.
Bob’s initial jealousy that Helen gets the superhero spotlight is annoying considering his arc in the original ended with him coming to value his family and deciding he wouldn’t shove them aside in chasing the glory days. I at least appreciate him getting over it and actively putting that effort in. But it’s also annoying that the reasoning behind Helen’s role as the face of supers in the new age has to retcon Bob’s abilities too. His action scenes in the first film showcased his resourcefulness, wits, and stealth. Now you’re telling me Elastigirl is the best play because we can’t have Mr. Incredible making a mess of things? Again, Syndrome’s plan took into account Bob as a major obstacle of his high tech robot. He idolized the guy for a reason. Bob was essentially the super of supers, with not just enhanced strength but agility and speed, revered for his heroics as seen on his wall of accolades, but now he’s been relegated to the guy who punches first and thinks second.
Leaving the kids to rescue the supers is a really cool concept imo that would’ve been more satisfying if it had tied to any themes or conflicts previously set up, but like Violet’s boy problems, it doesn’t. And half their time is spent keeping Jack-Jack in line with almost no real stakes until the suit controller is broken. It was admittedly a little more vague, but I always interpreted that the ending of the first movie also implied the family had discovered his powers before the Underminer’s appearance. Dude was masked up with the rest of em. Regardless, nothing cool comes out of that aspect besides the reappearance of Edna. And it’s a good thing the writers invented powers for him as they went along so he could just solve the heavy outmatching between the kids and adults by levitating his mom’s goggles off…?
I’m not sure if this point is just me, I know Dash is meant to be kind of annoying in the original but somehow he feels like ten times more of a brat in the sequel. His acting out in school was the result of not having an effective outlet for his energy, and his clashing with Violet felt believable. I think plenty siblings of a similar age gap would agree. Poking fun at a crush, arguing over blame for little things, the misunderstanding of Bob and Helen’s relationship issues, it seemed like natural immaturity he’d soon outgrow. Now he comes across as a kid who misbehaves for the sake of it, pressing buttons because they’re buttons and completely disregarding his sister’s lashing out. Like dude that is a real, full size car equipped with destructive weaponry PUT DOWN THE REMOTE
Violet also just doesn’t seem like the character she’d become by the end of the first movie, not much else on that to say that other comments didn’t already highlight
The Incredibles is one of my favorite films of all time, and I can’t even call Incredibles 2 a “perfect” failure because there’s nothing perfect about it (well the music still goes pretty hard). It’s just a failure of a sequel through and through, which is a damn shame considering the director had said over the years before its reveal that he wasn’t going to revisit this world until he had a new story worth telling. This doesn’t feel like that story
It’s a shame cause ScreenSlaver was an interesting villain. It’s unfortunately squandered by the fact that they decided to set the movie immediately after the first one, when they should have stuck with the original rumoured concept of them having a big time jump to where the family is much older and wiser.
I hated Incredibles 2, it felt more like an extended episode of a weekly TV series than a sequel to a classic movie. The only good thing I can say about it, is that it made me appreciate even more how brilliant the first one was. I kinda took it for granted before, but now I see how special movies like that are.

Tbh, if anything, the villain should have gone after the politicians that made Supers illegal in the first place. You know... since Supers being illegal is why no one answered her dad's calls.
Haven't seen the vid yet, but these are my problems with the sequel:
1. In the first 10 min it undoes everything the first one did. This is complete bs. Superheroes should not be outlawed after the Incredibles and Frozone saved ppl from the robot. And Tony being mind wiped is also pretty bs.
2. Villain. Spoiler. Evelyn Deavor is the worst. Her plan is to help her bro attempt to get heroes back, so she can cause a massive incident...to keep heroes illegal??? Heroes are already illegal - just refuse to help your bro!!! I hate the Hollywood trend of emasculating men and making women total badasses, but in this film, it was a complete bait & switch w/no reason. Her bro should have been the main antagonist. Additionally, Screenslaver is a fantastic villain. The mid-movie Screenslaver monologue was SO COOL. "You don't believe in reality, instead you watch reality shows." If Screenslaver was a standalone enemy, it would've been so much cooler and more badass.
3. Forgettable. Others have pointed this out, but it bears repeating. This film quickly becomes very standard and route fair. It's biggest crime is how inoffensive and by the numbers it is. Corporate interference ses to have it's grubby fingerprints all over the film. And one can tell because all the parts with Jack Jack were pretty damn funny and were made really, REALLY well. Brad Bird's heart wasn't in this one
Edit: I do have to say that for se reason, the underminer was a much more intriguing villain than what we got with Evelyn. Which is funny, because Bomb Voyage was super memorable in the original, despite being in the film for no more than 10 minutes. If they focused on the underminer more and brought back Bomb for a final, post credit scene, it would've been so good :')

This movie has not one but TWO train chase scenes that mirror the shit out of the SINGLE train scene in the intro of the og Incredibles. That’s enough for me to call it a terrible sequel

I’ll never understand why the Underminer wasn’t the main villain of this movie. It makes the game “The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer” a more worthy sequel than the actual movie sequel.
A better sequel would be if it was actually a prequel and the main protagonist was syndrome when he was taking out all of the other supers..the disc 2 of the original was so interesting and really made that universe bigger
