Clearly they didn't hire a sound engineer to edit this for upload to youtube..
They don't spend money on youtube, it's not worth it for the income it generates.

top gear deliberately uploads clips to youtube with shitty audio. the actual series sounds fine. they also cut huge chunks of the original clip and upload small portions.
Actually, if he thought this mix was good and that you could easily hear the narration, he probably has spectacular hearing.
Some say he was born deaf.

I saw a 575 pulling out of a restaurant one day. It DID NOT sound like a fiesta.
As compared to a vanquish V12, it does.

The Aston is gorgeous. The Ferrari 575 is not. Could have purchased a 550 reasonably, but we all need to look at our Ferraris as well as drive them.
The audio is built in 5.1 but when uploaded here it only does stereo so the voices, like the commentary, when mixed into the show afterwards are on the center channel and just a little bit left and right. So in stereo sometimes it's fine, while other times it's wrong because you're getting no center channel audio.
My favorite thing about this is that Damon is just there needing no introduction
Dark blue is the most underrated colour on Ferraris. Just sublime.

When this video came out I would have the Aston. 12 years later I understand why Ferraris are special. It still looks great
Both great-looking cars with plenty of power to spare. Much as I love the Ferrari, I would happily settle for the Aston as it seems to have everything one would want in a grand-tourer.

I agree.. you can never hear the voices while the music is on, but when the camera is inside the car it's ok.
While I love James, I did like the knowledge this original cohost had when it came to prices and appreciation/depreciation.

Its cause its made to be 5.1 surround or something like that. When its encoded, it's meant to be broadcast in 5.1 surround, so you pumping it out of 2 speakers is taking what 5 speakers are supposed to push out (5 different levels of sound) through 2 speakers.

Is it my computer?, or the newest videos have a different equalization, it seems to me that in some scenes the music is much louder and it doesnt let you hear what he says properly....
It's probably been (re-?)mixed for surround and we've just got the FR + FL channels.
I'm guessing the centre channel is absent.

That's Jason Dawe. He was presenter in the first season in 2002. After the first season he was replaced by James May.

Why is the audio so broken?
If Jeremy and Richard were to rate the cars in the cool wall, the Vanquish would be in the Aston's fridge and the Ferrari will be in the Uncool section.

the audio is not screwed ... its in stereo. Get a good sound card with 5.1 definition and its pretty good. Sound Blaster 5.1 dig audio sells for about $120 USD for a decent one.

If anything, I'd appreciate more if that was the case at the moments of stupid jokes, "Tom Jones sounds" and bull talk about the gearbox and his incompetence to start drive Aston uphill...

Well he owned a Bentley T2 that wouldn't fit in his garage. So he had to ride his folding bicycle to the king-sized garage he rented some ten miles away. Not sure if he had a scooter though.

yep - can get decent SB cards and other cheaper ones for 5.1 for laptops too - external through USB is a good option as they are cheaper and dont take up valuable space

Having owned a gunmetal grey 05 Vanquish S which i still to this day regret sellingi love the front of the Vanquish but prefer the rear of the 575. And im sure the 575 drives better.
