  • Exclusive RFA footage shows North Koreans panning for gold in North Korea's South Hwanghae Province. They do this to sell to the elites at a lower price to make a living during the starvation months of the barley harvest between April and May. One gram of pure gold is equivalent to 400,000 North Korean won (approx. $50 USD). Personal gold trading is illegal in North Korea.
