Thank you for the review, yours is the only one out there and thanks to it I got my Ravenna. I had been searching for a plein air box and looked everywhere but nothing appealed to me until this!!!! Thank you so much. I also now follow you for the other videos and tuts. ✨

I'm so glad it was helpful! I still use mine constantly and it's as sturdy as it was the day I got it 6 years ago (even though I'm ashamed to say I've dropped it from standing height several times - yikes!). And thank you for the subscribe - I'm actually in the process of making two new videos to kickstart my channel again, since I've been gone for a while :)

Miss Yoda says thank you and we're both happy the review was helpful! I still use this easel every day and, after literally dropping it 3 times, it's held together without a single problem, so I highly recommend it if you're clumsy! :)

I don't use the entire pad on my easel (too heavy) at one time or use a large pencil sharpener, mine is a small brass one so the cons won't be an issue for me. Great review! Thanks!

Savina, you sold me! Instead of lusting after this, I'm ordering it tomorrow. The black looks nice, so I think I'm going to go with that. It will be exclusively for my graphite drawing supplies. Thanks so much for this review :-)

I'm so excited for you! I know I was so happy when mine came in the mail - it was so worth the investment. To be honest, I actually thought I was going to be disappointed with it because I'd tried so many others and they just weren't what I was hoping for for one reason or another...But this one is just awesome. And also, it's just really fun to get art supplies in the mail! lol. Have fun & I hope you'll share pictures when it comes!

Amberwing Art It's on it's way to me, via the link you provided this morning :-) I also had something similar, made of flimsier material, that I wound up never using because it was just too flimsy. I think this will do the trick.

Yay! You're going to love it - it's such a fun piece of equipment! And it's definitely not flimsy, which is part of what I love about it...Have fun with it & let me know what you think when you get it!

Hi I bought the Winsor & Newton version, and had that problem of tightening the screws and then slipping. {Mine has knurled knobs, not the wing nuts that you have on yours) I overcame this by cutting a piece of leather to fit the knobs, so that it's the leather that is gripping the wood, not the metal. Also my drawer opened on the left, which for me being right handed was really awkward, but was easily fixed so that it now opens on the right hand side. Plus have lined my drawers with leather too ;) Hopefully these little tips will help someone interested in the same easels we have.

I know this comment was a year ago, but can you please explain how you got your draw opening on the right. Did you dismantle the whole thing. ?

    • @Ian-gb8ds
      @Ian-gb8ds 7 років тому +2

Hi Jean, yes i did dismantle, but I oiled up all the pieces, just to give the wood more protection.
You can do it by opening up the easel, look behind it and you will see 4 screws that are connecting it to the runners (not sure what to call them) that are fixed to the box. Then, turn it around and line up the 2 front edges of the easel and the runners together before marking where the 2 supports go, or easier still, measure where the holes are and duplicate them on the other side..... The latch that keeps the easel closed will just about fit on the opposite side next to the drawer latch, but do that last to get its position accurate....
I hope I've explained things simply enough.

Yes I see now. I was looking at removing the runners....silly. Many thanks for easy explanation. Like you I find it very irritating. Came here looking for reviews before getting a new one but this still seems the best for me. I will be digging out the tools tomorrow, with your instructions in hand. Thank you so much...also be looking for leather!

Hey, my pleasure! Glad I could help. Have added a pic to see what I did with the knobs, just a disc of leather has made all the difference, it stopped slipping and doesn't need to be turned as tight.

Is the item in your description the same one as the one you are reviewing in the video? It looks a bit different. I was looking at this one, www.michaels.com/10132811.html#start=3 , is this the same one just more expensive? My wife just got into painting and I really want to get her something nice for Christmas, I want to buy her something nice, well made and sturdy. The one in your link from amazon has some mix reviews, some think it is a bit flimsy. I don't mind spending some extra cash, but I do mind if it is the same item :) Thanks!

+Vinnie Vin Hi Vinne - I got mine from DickBlick.com, but the one linked in my description is the same easel. I took a look at the reviews you mentioned and it looks like there are 3 of them who got a faulty product, which is unfortunate. Mine came in great shape and I've had no problems with it. In fact, I've literally dropped it on our hard wood floors twice (once was this week) and the thing didn't break (knock on wood) - I was pretty impressed. I've tried out quite a few of these lap easels and this was the most sturdy and well made one that I found personally. It looks like the extreme sale that was going on when I posted that link is no longer on, but it's still about $30 cheaper than I paid at Blick.
As far as the one you linked to in your question - it looks like the same easel renamed (which is common at retail stores). I bought mine at Blick for $90 - ouch!
I hope that helps - just let me know if you have any other questions!
