OMG! I just got my Soho Pochade box today (a birthday present from my husband) and it is AMAZING!! It's so much better than I expected. I'm going to do a full review of it on my channel, but for those who are on the fence, here are some answers to concerns that I had before ordering it: 1) It's very sturdy on the tripod. I just have a regular, cheap tripod and my box is staying level perfectly well - I haven't had an issue with it leaning forward. If you find that your box does that when you get it, it's an issue with the tripod, not the box. First try tightening the tripod's long handle before getting upset; that long handle keeps the tripod's head level. 2) I've only had it for one day, mind you, but so far, the easel is staying up very well when holding both sizes of watercolor sketchbook that I use for plein air (9"x12" and 6"x9"). They're both heavy, compared to a panel, so if it stays up when holding them, I wouldn't expect it to have a problem with panels. I'm going to try my watercolor block next and I'll update this comment. Since the knobs used to tighten the easel use screws, it's possible that they'll get stripped over time, so if that happens, I'll probably get a bracket to secure the easel when it's up. 3) Fellow lefties will be happy to hear that you can put the brush holder tray on the left side and it stays very securely. This made me especially happy, since it's impossible to find art supplies and equipment that's lefty-friendly. 4) I can't begin to say how much I love that towel holder (I use cloth towels, but it's meant for a paper towel roll). It holds cloth towels also and it's not too long, like I was concerned about. If you use a cloth towel, you can use the box's carrying strap instead, which hangs at the same height as the towel holder, if you want something thicker to hold your towel. 5) It's heavy (6 pounds empty & almost 7 pounds fully loaded with watercolor supplies - I weighed it :) ), so you'll only want to use the handle when you're going short distances. But when you use the thick strap to carry it on your shoulder, it doesn't feel heavy on the shoulders at all - it feels lighter than my plein air backpack. 6) The only downside that I've seen so far is that it came with a nick in the wood. It was packed really well inside of the box, but it's this gorgeous cherrywood that feels very delicate. So it's really beautiful, but it's going to be a bummer when it starts getting easily beaten up on plein air trips. I'll probably shellack mine before I start taking it out to protect the wood. So far I absolutely love it and I highly recommend it!
I got one as a gift from my son... beautiful to behold but out in the field and on the tripod not practical... This type of pochade is good for table top ... buy an old fashion French easel , that is better... and if you can find one that was manufactured “pre- Chinese made “ about 1968 or before...That is the best...QUALITY IS REALLY GREAT...especially those made in Spain, France, or England...👍🏻. BTW this Soho, Meeden are all made in China... oh, BTW, those European French art boxes are now all made in China... SAD the quality was sacrificed. I hope Art Suppliers here in USA would manufacture Quality art supplies made in USA again... Just A-wish on my part.
Cool! I ordered one of these boxes, & it will hopefully arrive by the end of this week. I'm happy to have watched this video so that I know what everything is for. As someone who's starting to paint again after decades of not painting, it'll be good to have a decent place in which to store all my supplies, both when I go out & when painting at home, as well as when they're just sitting awaiting my next painting session.

My apologies for the last response. The weight of the SoHo Pochade box is 6.17lbs empty, making it lightweight and super portable. This Pochade Box is specifically designed to be used on a tripod or a table, and the weight is balanced/distributed to be exceptionally stable when tripod mounted (please see our page in the link below, we also feature the box with a tripod kit that is perfect for it, at a significant cost savings over buying it separately). Love this item and have bought Soho products before and am very satisfied with them. My question here is how does the tripod attach? would love to see a demonstration of that. Plus is it using a camera tripod or does Soho sell a tripod to use with this pochade?

Sorry about my last question. I'm looking for a video on the scout pochade by SoHo. I'm trying to find out if the easel only locks in one position. I can't quite understand that this box doesn't have the same sliding brackets as on the larger box in this video. Thx
Thank you for contacting us. We have not released a video for the SoHo Scout Pochade Box yet, but we plan to upload that video in the future. Compared to the original SoHo Plein Air Pochade Box, the SoHo Scout has many different features, and one of them is the sure-lock angle hinge. You can not set the Scout Pochade lid at different open angles; it has only one open setting. The sure-lock angle hinge ensures a comfortable working angle that won't change or move while painting. You might want to consider the original SoHo Plein Air Pochade Box if you need a pochade box lid with an adjustable angle.

I will design a supply box that can mount to the tripod and then the box I have will fit onto that, perhaps the pochade easel could be a lid itself while mounted. Thx

Hello, is it a bad idea to leave the easel standing all the time? As in everyday, every hour, and every minute. Will it damage it or will it have the same effect if you continue to pack it up every time you're done painting?
Dear Nhi- Unlike a traditional French Easel that will have issues with the legs moving or lowering over time if it remains set up, The SoHo Pochade Box and Tripod are incredibly compact by comparison, and perfectly calibrated to remain stable for work, whether inside or outside. Because the box is only 6.17 lbs empty, even with the storage compartments holding supplies it would still be light enough to remain on it's tripod set up, constantly. I think the biggest issue would be ensuring your tripod is adjusted and tightened tightly (the angle of the box can be adjusted, so you would want that nice and tight so it would not slope or slip), and check it for tightness at the end of every session to ensure nothing has loosened up with use. Please note that this rugged tripod was designed specifically for use with our SoHo Pochade Box, and use with another brand tripod may have different results! "Fell for the shinny box"! bought this rubbish about a year ago. stored it at room tempeture and when I took it out to use it all the veneure had lifted and split, plus cheap chrome brass fittings"!

You would think if you are in the business of selling products you would invest in a few studio lights to actually get your products out of the darkness. They are really cheap now with the whole youtuber culture. So many of your productions leave the products completely in the dark. It's an easy fix.
