I totally agree with you about speed reading books just for the sake of getting through them. I like to take my time and savour the language and story, also if you rush you can miss some of the meaning. I usually select a particular book, just based on my mood. Greetings from New Zealand

How great it is to find a book reviewer who is a little older than the norm. I am 81 (much older than you) and still love to read, all genres, especially historical fiction and non fiction.

So very glad to have found your channel. I live in the US and I retired this past summer. More time to read my books. I love fiction especially historical fiction. I also like to read history books because one of my university degrees is in history. I especially enjoy reading British history. I recently bought Peter Ackroyd’s book on the Tudors. I look forward to more of your content.

Hi! I used kindle for 10 years and now I’m back to normal books, so much happier! Going to the bookstore is like a treasure hunt. You also have to be more creative when you travel, taking smaller books and stuff like that.

I so agree. I have to discipline myself to one or two shelves when I visit a bookshop, otherwise I'd be there for hours!

I’ve just discovered your channel! In my very late 60s, I am really thrilled to find a senior booktuber! And I’m on the Dickens mega readalong, I took it as my last chance and provided me with the necessary discipline to really go into Dickens of whom I had a very scant knowledge after all (I’m French). I’m looking forward to your next videos!

Neither one of my parents were readers. My mom always took us to
The bookmobile in fridays. My aunt was a bug reader and we both liked true crime and had many discussions. My love of reading started with the velveteen rabbit. It’s still one of my favorites. Where the red fern grows was a favorite book even though it made me cry. Charlottes web. These 3 started my love of books. Historical fiction. Memoirs and biographies. Sine true crime and history are my genres. A little fantasy. No bloody horror or science fiction for me. I am glad I found your channel. My age group and a lot of the same interests. I love any book on royalty historical fiction and historical books.

Lovely to find your channel. A person after my own heart. I too love physical books. Well written, esp. if historical. If I might suggest an idea for a video - showing some of your parents books you have. I think people might find it interesting. I could live lifetimes and never read everything I'd like but what a joy it is to buy books & be surrounded by the next possible adventure I pick up. :)

I found your channel a couple of weeks ago and love it. I've been on the audiobook train lately but am slowly finding my way back to physical books. I especially love old, used books. That old book scent is just lovely 😊 Tilly is so cute ❤

❤📚📚❤️. Lovely meeting you, and Tilly, today!
Yes, I love fantasy, classics, and historical fiction best... but anything may grab my interest if it looks to be well written.
My library is also in alphabetical/author order.
The first books I remember setting me on the path of book love were The Borrowers by Mary Norton and Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren.
    Good luck with your channel!

Glad I’ve found your channel. I’ll keep watching as you add more content.
I came back to reading in December last year after a 10 year break. I’d always been an avid reader, and am sad that I fell away from books for so long. I’ve read 88 books so far this year though so I’m definitely back in the game (it’s harder to find time to read these days as I have 2 pre school aged children!).
I’m in my mid 30’s and have found many Booktubers are in their 20’s, so definitely nice to have representation from other age groups here.
Have you watched Jack Edwards channel? He reads a lovely range of books and is easy to listen to.

Looking forward to all your videos! And I'm also looking into your own books! I much prefer physical books (nothing like literally holding a physical book, gazing at its cover, feeling and turning its pages, even smelling it, lol) but I've been buying mostly electronic books lately. Mostly because it's cheaper, and because I have no room for more physical books LOL

  • @ObscureBookAdventures

Yep, I was wondering about that too. I know I’m a slow reader, but even for a fast reader 10 books a month is a lot. CriminOlly did a video about how he managed to read that many books which I thought was very interesting.
Yes, getting subscribers is difficult I have noticed that as well.

    • @booksfrommybookshelf
      @booksfrommybookshelf  6 місяців тому +2

Thanks. As a writer, I can’t help feeling that it’s a little insulting to race through books that an author has spent so much time and effort to create, but I am also aware that people are either just naturally slow or quick readers. But personally I prefer quality over quantity! I like to savour the prose of a good author!

I know one of the ways booktubers get through books is listening while doing other things. I haven’t tried it, I think it might work best with Kindle’s Whispersync? IDK. I’m not a fan of seeing how many books in a month I can read…I like to give a little of my time & respect to the author in my reading. It takes a lot to write a book! I do listen to audio books when I’m driving or cleaning, they make the time go faster for sure!
One idea, if you’re looking for ways to add a bit of content, would be to read some excerpts from books you are currently reading, or have enjoyed in the past. Not long readings, just something to give a bit of flavor, or writing passages you particularly enjoyed. With your history in acting, I think that would be lovely! Most of the folks that do read excerpts don’t do it well, rushing through and not really giving any inflection.
Sharon Kay Penman is one of my favorite authors. Dorothy Dunnett (?) is also good. 😊

So rnjoyable. I envy you the decade you have to read as I had then, but life' s imprevus, so I must still work fulltime and get to read the all too short commute to work. Have you read Man on a Donkey? By H.M.Prescott. i discovered her at 17 and only Last month found the Complete medieval novel at my local bookshop without looking for it! Thanks to my grandaughter asking to re-return visit! Wonderful Christobel Coeper, abbess.
