All aboard Clifton Hicks time machine, one minute I am minding my own business in England, next moment I'm strolling through rural America.I cannot think of any other musician who can capture so authentically the true essence of another age.Remarkable.
For months this guy thought about that moment. "How will I reunite with my fair lady? The object of my heart's desire, for whom I so yearn? Oh, I know, I'll make her think I died a grisly death by cannon ball on some distant shore. She'll be hysterical. Yeah, women love having their hearts shattered with dire news. I'll not crank crouched behind yonder barrel of salt-pork on that evening, no sir." Good one, Bill. So romantic.
That Belmont sounds great, very distinct but not harsh. Great story song! Interesting how it switched to 3rd person 3 times. Love some of the language and lines, like "her parents flew upon me." Also love the last line and the abrupt ending you chose. Those were rough times back then. Glad I didn't live then. :-) Thanks for sharing this!
Man ! I really dig your whole Style brother . You elegantly bridge the past and the future in the Now . What a Divine sound you Have . Thank You for putting what you do ,out in the world. You always uplift my day with your sound . Much Respect. Aloha from Kauai.
When I was a fair and a tender boy In old Frisco I did dwell, It was there I courted a fine young lady Who lived near Shelbyville. I courted her daily I courted her nightly Until her parents flew up on me, We'll have you shipped out across the ocean We'll have you sent to sea! We'll have you shipped out upon the ocean Little Molly you'll never see! I sailed and I sailed all across the ocean Until I come to my own seaside, If Molly's alive and I can find her I will make her my lawful bride. As I was a walking the street that morning That bright and golden street, A cold drop of rain fell just as it happened Little Molly I chanced to meet. Good morning good morning you fine young lady Would you fancy one like me? O no my mind is on a young farmer Who's lately been sent to sea. Describe him describe him O do describe him Describe your man to me, Perhaps I've seen him and am acquainted For I've just returned from sea. He is tall and he is slender He's pretty as he can be, His eyes are blue and his hair is curly No man but him suits me. O yes I saw him and am acquainted He went by the name William Hall, A French cannonball passed clean through his body He's dead I saw him fall. To hear the screams of that fine young lady Was enough to make me tell her the truth, I said I am William your long lost farmer Returning to marry you. Then he picked her up all in his two arms And kisses gave her three, Yes I am William your long lost lover Returning to marry thee. Then they locked their loving arms close together And to the church did go, Today they are married to one-another Parents willing I do not know.

Don't usually see you playing a resonator!
You have a very "authentic" sound. Not enough people attempt that. It's great!
I liked the tune as soon as you started playing .
I think I heard the song in my early childhood on the radio .Well done heartfelt storytelling.
