Some of these are just embarrassing. Some people know absolutely nothing about the vehicle they are controlling and are on the road with you and your loved ones.
@madog1, I have to believe that these kinds of things are done by those same individuals we've seen videos of called "People of Walmart."🤣🤪😵I can't believe that some people actually do things like this... You want to believe "Nohhhhh.... They did this just to make us laugh and cringe, they didn't really empty a can of grease, smearing it on their vehicle's suspension to 'make squeaks go away'...." or "drive a new car 90,000 miles without ever changing the oil...." x_x Reminds me of Paris Hilton who was being followed by the paparazzi and suddenly she stops on the side of the road. They approach to ask if she's ok and apparently she's telling a friend on the phone that her Bentley Coupe has just "died" and the paparazzi has a look and says "Your vehicle ran out of gas...." to which she replied "How is that, it had gas in it before?!?!" He explained "You have to put more in it as you drive..." So he went to the store and bought a gas can and got some fuel for her.... It seems as if she didn't realize "stopping at a station to refuel a vehicle" is a general requirement of driving a combustion engine vehicle.
Back when cars had points, their inherent need for regular attention caused the rest of the car to be looked at on a regular basis. Cars were needy compared to today so, there was the side benefit of learning about how cars worked. I remember, as a kid, my Dad taking the car to the gas station to get the valves done. This was back when gas stations often had garages. I still remember riding my bike by the gas station later, going up, and seeing Curtis (station owner) doing the valve job on the flathead inline six (I knew that much). So THAT'S what valves are! Fascinating to me as a kid. I was so impressed. Yes, the car ran so smooth after Dad picked it up. The good ol' days. Today, cars have computers and long life components so, the vast majority of people just drive until the computer can't fake it any longer. Everything suddenly fails and the owner has no clue why.
Worst thing that ever came into my old shop was a kia soul with 96k on it, we told the lady she needed more frequent oil changes after she waited 25k last time, this time she came in and said “the engine has a weird noise” the engine was completely empty of oil and destroyed itself due to excessive heat, we told her, “welp what should have been 20$ every 3 months is now 12k for a new engine” 😂 she looked pissed but we warned her

Once again I failed the "head shake challenge". I simply can not watch these videos without shaking my head. The depths of stupidity people are capable of never fails to astound me.
I’m so glad I’m smart enough to actually know how to fix stuff. I’m going into the automotive field and I have been learning a lot since I got my first vehicle at 14 years old. I successfully swapped the engine in my ranger, currently working on swapping the transmission in the truck I bought for my first vehicle that I rebuilt after a wreck. And it’s been about 5 or 6 months since I did the engine swap on the ranger and it’s still very good, had to daily drive it while my f150 was down since the transmission messed up, wouldn’t shift out of first.
Confession time. I worked on the oil rigs and pretty much all the diesels are equipped with an emergency intake shut off valve. the reason for this is there can be gasses in the air and they can cause your engine to start over revving and won't shut off. SO you hit the switch and a spring loaded valve shuts off the air intake. Three of us couldn't get a truck to start. screwed around for hours checked the switch it was in the run position. Finally had a mechanic come out. He opened the hood reached over and reset the valve. they have to be manually reset we all knew that. 20 years ago so now I can tell the story and laugh.
apprentice heavy equipment tech here. Thought I broke a machine one time doing a simple check-over on it because when I tested the PASO, I couldn't get it to start even after flipping the switch back. Then learned that they do indeed need to be manually opened again, but that some newer models have a solenoid in them that you can't open until you take the PASO apart.
Don't feel too bad. Had a customer tow a vacuum truck to our shop for the same reason. It wouldn't start when the morning crew came on at the plant. I got in, heard the telltale "no compression" spinning engine, and knew right away what it was. Pretty hefty tow bill just to reset the valve.
I love how casually the narrator describes some of these. Like i wouldn't be able to speak most of this stuff without dying laughing. And the casual nature of the narrator actually just adds to how funny this is to watch.
10:19 A leaking pinion seal is a whole lot cheaper to replace than the entire differential. It reminds me of another video where a pickup owner declined to have the u joints on his 4x4 pickup replaced which resulted in the u joints ruining both the transfer case and transmission. What is it that some car owners ignore things that are easily fixed and don't cost that much which would result in more damage and a far bigger repair bill?
i think its because people think they get scammed with too high costs on car repairs. the markup they make on parts is insane when the parts are already overpriced before markup and we all know what cheap shit the sell. so we decline repairs we think are not necessary right now because why should i change a leaking air conditioner condenser in the middle of the winter? and why should i pay 400€ (cant remember the real price) for a aluminium block that is very cheap to produce and is produced in huge quantities. Maybe they should have told me that running a air conditioner dry is bad thing and that it runs in the winter to dehumidify the front window when you press the button. ;)
RTFM @@MagnusReinhardt Pretty sure your owners manual will tell you that your AC runs in defrost. Been a pretty standard feature for about 30 years, if not longer (my 1986 Chrysler was like that).
Twisting insulated wires together never gets old. To bad there isn't a source of information like UA-cam or the internet to inform special people how to do repairs.
Never mind the internet, when you buy a head kit or stereo it comes with very clear install instructions which tell you to strip the ends of the wires.
Whenever I get upset that my mechanic is too expensive or takes too long, I just watch one of these videos and realize why I should just shell out bucks and be patient and NOT try to fix it myself. Really, though, as clueless as I am with cars, some of the people in these videos make me feel like a mechanical genius.
Customer: "My sunroof won't open" Mechanic: "It's because you don't have a sunroof, ma'am." Customer: "oh, thank you." Mechanic: "No problem. Here is your diagnostic bill."
0:46 This situation happened to me. My car got hit earlier this year and after I got it back I told the shop my back up sensors didn't work. After they disassembled it and finally took it to the dealer, the dealer said "It doesn't have backup sensors." D'oh! To be fair, I'd only had the car for 6 days before the accident so I wasn't fully aware of what it had. I'm an idjit. I'm a moron. lol
A sensor which sees how close objects are behind when backing up, so when reversing you hear beeping to tell your how close you are to hitting something@@likebot.
5:05 I worked on a car once that was full of cigarette butts, I mean thousands of them. It was like sitting in a giant ashtray. Everywhere you could think of stuffing a butt was full of them, vents, console, cup holders, glove box, armrest, etc. it’s like they had been chain smoking in their car for years and never got rid of a single butt, like there was some kind of f’ed up prize for it. I have worked on lots of hoarders cars and ones full of trash but this thing was in a whole separate category of wtf. I had to make sure everyone came over and looked at it. If I had a picture you still wouldn’t believe it. Undoubtedly the most wack interior I’ve ever seen
we had a car like that come in. the carpets were sticky and the windows were literally coated in brown goo from the nicotine. every tech refused to get in it. the kicker is that it was one of our salesman's car.
I can only imagine the smell. The other day I delivered to a building that smelled like an ash tray. The thing is, the building was open at the bottom where I could smell it and there were obvious mounted ash trays down there. I guess the building (looked housing commission to me) had a lot of smokers.
The one with the Iphone that wasn't charging in the car, he 100% went in there hoping it was a problem with the car because it would have been cheaper to fix whatever was wrong with the car than if his phone needed anything replaced.
The customer not having the kick to open tailgate feature I understand in some scenarios. In 2020 you could order a BMW X3 with a kick-to-open handsfree tailgate as part of a convenience package. If you opted for a tow hitch, the sensors for the tailgate "kick" feature were removed. The car still came with the convenience package (which includes the hands free tailgate), and even a nice note that shows you how your new BMW hands-free tailgate operates with a photo of someone opening their tailgate with a foot kick and a smile lol. I may or may not have looked like an idiot doing leg sweeps under my car trying to trigger the sensor, not knowing they were removed from the factory.
honestly this channel makes me glad I live in the UK, where most of these issues would be picked up on an MOT, and then would need to be repaired for the car to be road legal
That is true, however the stupidity epidemic is just as raging over here, the MOT only proves it was safe the day of the test, 364 other days are available for people to do awful work or ignore serious issues and drive on bald tyres!
Surely that Mustang isn’t much over its oil change interval at 12,000 miles? Very few European cars, including Ford, have shorter that 10,000 mile service intervals these days and have no early first oil change either. The majority have between 12,000 and 15,000 mile oil change intervals.
12:38 I knew a couple of guys that went on a road trip in a brand new Subaru. It was due for its first oil change so they decided to do it before driving and they did exactly this. Needless to say it broke down in the middle of nowhere. Surprisingly enough Subaru covered it on warranty
I'm not ashamed to say I did that as well. Except I immediately knew it wasn't oil and spent the $200ish dollars on a box of cvt fluid and a handpump. The oil drain plug is kind of hidden, tucked away in a small hole in the plastic rock guard.
5:18 kinda hurts. I was leaving a state park one day and noticed a big oil stain under the back of my front wheel drive car. Since there's nothing back there that would leak oil, I confirmed that it wasn't gas, and that it looked really new, and just figured somebody was having a really bad day, with an oil change gone wrong. Two days later, I saw the same thing in a different parking space. Weird, but my car doesn't have any fluids back there except the gas tank, and this clearly wasn't gasoline. About a month later, I had a flat, and went to get the spare tire...I'd done another tire change a while back and after getting it fixed, I tossed the spare back in, on top of a full jug of Castrol. It had split the cap and dumped 5 quarts into the spare tire well, where it had been leaking out when the car was parked just right. Took a whole bottle of Dawn and a couple hours to clean up the spare and a few tools that had made their way down into the oil bath.
I used to make a killing doing side work for cheap people so they wouldnt do it themselves and possibly lose control and kill someone or their family. Now i stopped because im tired of not getting paid.
@@volvo09 my favorite story I have is when I had to change a door on a Nissan rogue. Backed up with it open. Once the work was almost done he said he didn't have the money to pay me. (No paint, just used door swap) I purposely left the outside handle disconnected and then left the inside handle cable off. Slammed the door and said get the f out of here. He calls me 2 hours later saying the door doesn't work. I said it will when you pay me. 4 days later he comes with the money but I said it's now 5 times the price. He paid me and I fixed everything in 5 minutes and told him our business is done forever. All I was asking was 50 bucks........ 6 years later he randomly asks me to work on his cars.....NOPE.
@@KenBoberYep, I used to do repairs for co-workers, only charging $20/hour. I got tired of chasing down people who never had $40-60 to pay me but always had cigarettes or new tattoos. Probably 80% of them paid right away or when we agreed on, but the 2 or 3 who didn’t messed it up for everyone else.
My brother was a security guard at a automobile factory for a while. They'd make him take out the trash too for some reason, he said the bags in the bathroom were always packed full of hypodermic needles.
Some people just shouldn't own a vehicle, some workshops should be closed down. I do all my own work, that way I know the work is actually done and done right.
I can't exactly say that I "enjoyed" this video, but I did go through a wide range of emotions. 🤣😵💫🤐😮💨🤦 I'm not sure what's worse. These people drive among us or they're allowed to vote.
I had to unlock somebody's car because they couldn't figure out how to unlock it because they locked the keys inside even though the windows were down. They paid me $150 to unlock their vehicle for them all I had to do is reach in and grab the keys. That's how I know this generation is doomed.
Had an old lady driving a Toyota Corolla manual coming in for the third clutch replacement in just under a month, the second replacement we covered as we thought it could be fabrication issues with the clutchdisc. However I asked the old lady about her driving patterns, and she told me this was her first manual car, she lived in a mountainous area, the pedal to the right she pushed down to make the car sing a high tune nicely and then adjusted the speed with the far left pedal -.- gave her a little driving lesson on how to operate a manual car, and she happily paid the repairs (all three of them) as it clearly wasn't warranty covered :)
Sometimes im really suprised what people do with their own stuff. Like why do you not take care of it? It hurts my soul seeing cars like this sometimes.
Same here. It’s a point of pride for me that as my cars get older they’re still clean and well-maintained and look it. On one of the rare occasions I had one break down on the road, after the tow truck driver got it loaded, he asked me how old the car was, and was shocked it was ten years old because it was in such good shape. He said he’d hauled expensive cars less than a year old that were already pretty much trashed.
The shoes and Lysol bottle were priceless, i once bought a spare tire and rim for a S 10 i had, used it, wheel would not turn. The yard sold me a 4x4 rim that was wrong for 2wd

I enjoy watching these. It makes me feel a little bit smarter and not so bad at this stuff
the lottery ticket to fix the battery made me chuckle even though I saw it before! happy birthday to your son! enjoy the day!

I loved the flashlights in the headlight. That's a new one.
The lack of awareness people have with their surroundings will never cease to amaze me.
There are specialists for that, so I can turn off my brain now...😅
I love how casually the narrator describes some of these.
Just dumb !!
They are penny pinching fools. They refuse to realise that repairs of minor defects are far less expensive replacement of ruined major assemblies.
i think its because people think they get scammed with too high costs on car repairs. the markup they make on parts is insane when the parts are already overpriced before markup and we all know what cheap shit the sell. so we decline repairs we think are not necessary right now because why should i change a leaking air conditioner condenser in the middle of the winter? and why should i pay 400€ (cant remember the real price) for a aluminium block that is very cheap to produce and is produced in huge quantities. Maybe they should have told me that running a air conditioner dry is bad thing and that it runs in the winter to dehumidify the front window when you press the button. ;)

Pretty sure your owners manual will tell you that your AC runs in defrost. Been a pretty standard feature for about 30 years, if not longer (my 1986 Chrysler was like that).
Thank you for video.
This video explains a lot about other things going on outside of automotive industry.
Twisting insulated wires together never gets old.
To bad there isn't a source of information like UA-cam or the internet to inform special people how to do repairs.
I think they had wire nuts on there and the mechanic removed them, but still
Never mind the internet, when you buy a head kit or stereo it comes with very clear install instructions which tell you to strip the ends of the wires.
@@ikillstupidcomments LMAO. That's true, all the ones I've bought have the ends cut and pushed back a little so all you have to do is twist it off.

Really, though, as clueless as I am with cars, some of the people in these videos make me feel like a mechanical genius.
I find it funny that a huge part of the general public thinks mechanics and technicians are dumb and yet these are the mess we have to deal with.

0:46 This situation happened to me. My car got hit earlier this year and after I got it back I told the shop my back up sensors didn't work. After they disassembled it and finally took it to the dealer, the dealer said "It doesn't have backup sensors." D'oh! To be fair, I'd only had the car for 6 days before the accident so I wasn't fully aware of what it had.

what's a back up sensor?
Its funnier when the customer isnt crazy and the body shop didnt put the right bumper back on

That's about how smart I'd expect someone to be who has underglow on their truck.
So doing a nutcracker kick doesn't work on all of them, can you charge my phone on you wireless fliplid, whilst I attend to my foot?
I wonder if all these customers combined would even hit 100 IQ
Does that mean their money is no good?

honestly this channel makes me glad I live in the UK, where most of these issues would be picked up on an MOT, and then would need to be repaired for the car to be road legal
Really? Then I'll be moving there... tired of customers trying to fix it themselves without a clue od what they're actually doing!

Same here. It’s a point of pride for me that as my cars get older they’re still clean and well-maintained and look it. On one of the rare occasions I had one break down on the road, after the tow truck driver got it loaded, he asked me how old the car was, and was shocked it was ten years old because it was in such good shape.
