Mother with American accent, young child with American accent, second child mentioned but not expounded on and a young baby. Not much info on the whole situation, other than the father has a chronic disability and cannot work. If that is the case then why choose to have another child? You'll know how much young children cost after having had two of them. Why is it "insulting" that you have to make a choice based on the amount of money you'll have? A tough decision, certainly, but it's not like it's a surprise to you that children are expensive. Maybe the father's chronic disability only reared its head after the baby was born, which is unfortunate, but this is surely why you build some savings before considering a third child? I don't doubt that there are some unfortunate cases of people who the system has let down, but there seems to be a constant issue of news videos like this where no questions are asked about any of the background to the whole situation. Instead, it's just someone saying they need more cash for X, without asking why X came about or what they've done about it. A "good job, the kind of job I expected to have after completing my education" could mean anything in my book! What job is it? Where do you live? Median rental cost in London (which is where this family seems to be, NOT mentioned in the report) is 53.6% of income, increasing to above 80% in the most expensive London boroughs, so 70% of salary going on rent indicates to me that you're either living in one of the expensive boroughs, or you aren't as well paid as you imply! Wouldn't hurt for news channels to ask some questions now and then.

Why was it the government’s job, using taxpayers money….your money, my money….to pay for Johnsons legal backup because he lied to Parliament ? Why are the government using your taxes, my taxes, to squander on their grotesque Rwandan refugee scheme ?
I think this is short sighted. If the average person cannot afford children, society withers to nothing after just a few generations. I am also making the outrageous claim that a tertiary educated person is considered an average person. If anything tertiary education should mean more money and an easier life
What happened to the idea of young, physically and mentally fit individuals being responsible for having kids? Both parents can work and contribute to their children's welfare. If you can't afford childcare costs, then perhaps having kids isn't the best choice. Taxpayers aren't obligated to cover your expenses. It's become a culture of constant moaning and zero shame.
Sure. But this has been going on for a couple years. New baby. Thus she would have known. Then the husband is apparently chronically ill. Doubtful but if so he still has the strength to pound her and knock her up but can't work? 😂 yeah no. Screw her and him. Losers and leeches.

I think now people see benefits as a right not a privilege.
We will have 1:4 retirees to workers by 2030. Do you think it’s reasonable to expect 4 working people to fund the entire health and social care and living costs of one elderly person? If not, we need more children or more immigrants. To the rhetoric of “why should I pay for their kids?”…you should have an interest in normal working families being able to afford kids (regardless of how - preventing the rich and from skimming extortionate rents from working people is a better option) because those kids will eventually be paying for your retirement and old-age healthcare and they will therefore prevent economic collapse.
We need more productive individuals, not more unproductive individuals. We need to abolish all regulations, welfare and taxation. No one should be responsible for anyone else's children or anyone else's retirement.
But what if ones life were stable before you had three children i.e. you Could afford them and then later on, disaster strikes. One parent becomes seriously sick, the other leaves; the sort of thing that you couldn't reasonably have been expected to foresee
That's why you need savings and insurance. Unfortunately, taxation (including the stealth tax of inflation) and welfare make it less attractive and (indeed less possible) to accumulate savings and to buy insurance.

One obvious problem with the cap is that you could be happily working and married to someone else who is, decide rationally on the basis of your dual incomes that you can afford to have 3 kids, then get hit by chronic illness and/or the death of your spouse - suddenly you need the benefits system, but the benefits system you have paid into for years refuses to support that 3rd child. If you/your spouse can’t get a job and don’t have the savings then what do you do with the 3rd child? Are parents in this situation expected put the 3rd child into care? Or are they expected to partially-starve the whole family? Also, this policy is very short-termist, a child who hasn’t enough food to eat will struggle to concentrate in class, get worse grades, find it harder to get a steady job, and be more likely to end-up on benefits (costing the system far more as an adult than they would have as a child).
@@ShitoryuGojuryu okay, what do you do with the 2 other children if the state only supports 1? If there is a humane argument then why not make it instead of claiming that it exists.

In this case not only are you still paying for their food and clothes, but you are also paying strangers hired by the state to provide the childcare that the parents would have provided if they'd been able to afford to keep their child. So not only does this not make sense ethically, it also does not make sense for the taxpayer. It is not even intended to make sense for the taxpayer if the child has already been born, it is intended to discourage parents from having that 3rd child.

Also, this policy is very short-termist, a child who hasn’t enough food to eat will struggle to
concentrate in class, get worse grades, find it harder to get a steady job, and be more likely to end-up on benefits (costing the system far more as an adult than they would have as a child).

Why should i pay for more children that parents cant afford. Do not scrap the cap.
The rest of us taxpayers are not here to pay for your kids you cannot afford.
Tia shouldn't have conceived child 3 then, if she cant afford it. Its 'insulting' to the average taxpayer to have to pay for HER kids!!
Me and my partner haven't had a child because we can't afford it. It's called common sense. Get a fucking grip of your lives, if you can't afford them don't have them! It's not the states responsibility to raise YOUR kids with OUR money!!
