Inflation is not coming down from a 41 year high. Recent inflation rates were highest in 2022 at 9.2%. The inflation rate was 9.2% in 1990 which is 34 years ago and not 41 years. The upward swing in inflation from 2020 follows the European trend which hit 8,83% in 2022 before dropping back down. It's currently 2,4% in the Euro area compared to 2.8% in the UK. The current US inflation rate is 3.3%. The 30% figure is relative poverty after housing costs have been taken into account before housing costs it's 22% of children live in relative poverty. The UK figures are relative poverty that is where the income is under 60% of the median income for that year. Relative poverty captures the share of people whose income is low by the standards typical in their own country. Comparing these figures to the EU - the EU average is 24.7% - at national levels this figure ranges from 41.5% in Romania down to 10.3% in Slovenia. What I do find perplexing and is how we have people barely surviving on income from 2 jobs yet there are hundreds of thousands of normal working class people going off to the Euros and spending hundreds of pounds, a sold out Glastonbury weekend with a capacity of 210,000 with tickets priced at £366, there are hundreds of thousands attending the 15 Taylor Swift concerts and passenger traffic at UK airports is nearly back to pre-Covid levels. This sort of expenditure does not scream of destitution. We live in a global economy. The cost of living crisis and the housing crisis is global. The same issues brought up in this report are happening in every developed country in the world.
Uk since the Empire days had pursued the strength of the British currencies. Somewhere during thecThatcher years, the price of essentials were allowed to climb. This was done with British currency kept high. Hence, the cost of labour, cthe cost of living leading to the price of produce are high. The export cannot compete both externally and internally. What goes up dont come down. The template is set. The vicious cycle is set. Nothing within the next 4 years will change UK, the entrenched is beyond any politician.
Personal responsibility goes a long way too. I have been relatively ok living in the United States - because I was smart enough to not father any children. When you are stretching your paycheck, when you are paying rent, it is probably not a good idea to have children. Gotta be financially secure first before you even think about having kids. I am more financially secure these days, but I still feel I may struggle if I have kids. Of course, if one has stability today, it's important to keep in mind that this stability is not certain. In my life, I witnesses a few great disruptions: 1) collapse of the USSR as a kid (where I am from originally); 2) long-term struggle in the aftermath. 3) Right after moving to the United States I saw the 2008 economic crisis and a few more years of struggle. 4) The virus and its economic aftermath manifesting in inflation. I do not wanna blame politicians from this or that party - disruptions happen and it is hard to adapt. My point is that one needs to ensure that he or she has both some reserve capital and valuable skills to survive and thrive not only in good times but also in bad times.
Poverty in the UK is when your family earn less than 3000 pounds But government makes sure that every family has these 3000 pounds. Well the rent can be like from 1400 to 1800 pounds... No country in the world can pay enough money to rent an apartment for free, only UK does that. Let's be honest they are not poor, they were forced into laziness. It is easier to stay at home and get nearly the same amount of money from the state. These transfers push the inflation, and of course it cannot last forever... One day or another people would face the consequences

With the economic recovery of China, ASEAN and India most of west will slowly fall into poverty. Countries without oil exports will suffer the most. Changing politicians will hardly have any effect.
All the money is being spent on rent, energy and food. But where is that money going? Shouldn’t it be cycling through the economy? “Follow the money” is cliché, but oh so worth looking into.
Doesn't it keep coming every month on your bank account? 😀
Ukrained, Epsteined Boeinged, by design. Israel.😢😢😢😢😢
So, if you leave the toffs in charge the 'lower class' get poorer. Nobody should be surprised.
UK people still say that not having India as it’s colony is not a big deal. That’s the issue.
Now looters thugs have earn own money.
Ran out of the loot so soon huh?
If Uk again try to loot uk will no longer exist at god will
Thats messed up we are not your cashcow anymore !!
If you think anything will improve under Labour you're sadly deluded....
Pathetic, the uk government has much to answer for
They don’t have our interests in mind. They’re rich and look out for their cronies. Things are only going to get rapidly worse from here on out, especially combined with the rapid decay of our biosphere.
It's happening anywhere not only UK .. bcuz of inflation 😢... it's terrible......all Europe struggling ...
Really?!?? Look at Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg. Look at how Poland GDP is going up. Spain, Italy,...
Mate you need to look at your facts again😂
Children are the future. The UK is a future developing country
😅😅😅
No no UK is already a developing country.
Modern Day Conservatism, is not genuine Conservatism.
Older Conservatism came with moral and social obligations, now it just means preserving a very particular kimd of capitalism.
So, that name should lapse.
Problem is that there will be people who aren't in genuine need using food banks too. Unfortunately wen anything is free in this world, there will always be people that take advantage therefore taking out of the mouths of genuine people in need
Inexcusable. Despicable.
This is definitely happening in America too, such a high increasing in cost of living, is this also happening in the Eastern countries too? Middle East asia etc?
US child poverty rate is roughly half of that in the UK.
UK(51st state) don't have own foreign policy.
All countries that need to follow the empire foreign policy, economy are mess up.
Uk + 50 states.
I think USA is extended state of UK. 😂
I am so over the "am a single mom" rubbish.
Capitalism alone only has one outcome... economic inequality!
Only this one? Damn you are to the left of Marx himself😁
lol…Sunak able to relate not having Netflix in schooldays. WTF
30% is absolutely ridiculous for a rich nation. Smh
How do you define child poverty not being able to cloth, feed, and keep your child warm is my idea of child poverty
That’s it in uk. Just about surviving
4 months later.. only gotten worse
Politicians are disconnected from a layman. Career politicians fail and face no sanctions
Greenwich is one of the poorest?????!?!? WHAT
Brexit Britain, the Somalia of Europe
It started with thatcher and “austerity economics” - Austerity:the condition of living without unnecessary things and without comfort, with limited money or goods, or a practice, habit, or experience that is typical of this:
The wartime austerity of my early years prepared me for later hardships.
The austerities of life in a small rural community were not what I was used to.
Brexit Britain the EU of Europe (in this context) As mentioned above, a like for like comparison shows the same poverty rates as Europe (22%)
BINGO !
Ex- colonies and other countries have to be on guard when UK gets poor they turn to their old habit.
Ukraine is the Somalia of Europe.
Greenwich is far from poor.... did you mean Lewisham, Deptford or Catford?
There are wealthy parts of Greenwich, but it is one of the poorest boroughs in London.
Things are going to be far worse,,,,,, just wait.
I wonder how Britain could be one of the richest nation on earth when i have almost never seen any product made in England,
@@groundreality5360 Services, england is not even close to an industrial powerhouse like Germany. You wont see much made in england.
Money laundering capital of the planet.
Some of my tools are made in the uk Sheffield I believe
some is attributed to the stolen wealth from less privileged nations.
The UK isn't as rich as you seem to think it is. Also, it mostly exports services, not manufactured goods.
None is willing to address ( elephant inthe room) illegal immigrants who r liabilities on britian😢
Here after the election and the answer so far is No!
There are several things Labour can do immediately to reduce income inequality via taxation.
(1) Raise the personal income tax allowance and link it to inflation
(2) Raise income tax thresholds and also link them to inflation
(3) Tax capital gains the same as Income
(4) Remove the pension triple lock, but instead link pensions to inflation
70% of children do not live in poverty though
Winter is hard, and I can't afford to tune on the heater.
Those who come with "9 ninja wives and 22 children after him", the standard of living expectations drop instantly
Yeah, blame the inadequacies of the governement on foreigners... perfect scapegoats.
😂😂😂
Yes, it seems to be the way these days. Blame others so that we don't need to take our adult responsibility for the poor state we've put our own country in. That's always the best way to solve problems, isn't it. Nice.
vote Reform to stop the statistics
It's all their fault, vote reform!
If only there were a way to strengthen business, increase our market reach, decrease trade barriers. Guess it's impossible...
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson , show their true face.
"If Ukraine loses in the NATO proxy war with Russia, it will be the end of Western hegemony”
--> They don't care about Youkrain people.
And Boris still pushing the war to continue..
The vast majority of the world has not joined the West in its new cold war on Russia.
Two former US diplomats published an article in Newsweek in 2022 lamenting that, “While the United States and its closest allies in Europe and Asia have imposed tough economic sanctions on Moscow, 87 percent of the world’s population has declined to follow us”.
It is only the Global North, or the collective West, that has imposed sanctions on Russia: North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the US allies in Japan, South Korea, and China’s Taiwan province (which is governed by pro-Western political forces).
Living on Rent is a Half-Life, i prefer living in a fraking caravan instead...
We are blessed in Bulgaria that we own our properties from communist time....
you never owned it renting
That is not Greenwich! Greenwich is a really nice area with expensive properties and a beautiful park! The area in this report might be Lewisham or another area in South London.
They use it so they don't have to pay for food. I watched recently at a food bank as some mercs even a high end range rover pulled up and got food. It's a way to avoid the food bills for some. Problem is today people have no self pride and take because they can not because they need to. I stopped donating that day.
Vive LaPen !
She will do in France what Tories did in UK
Nothing will get better under labour, more government debt is a given, more far left policies, acceleration of illegal immigration, more inflation, more working class going into poverty.
My goodness is it really that bad in the UK?
So, I would like to know how many of these children in poverty come from recent immigrants.
gary's economics man. guy called it a year ago and this idea of not taxing the rich to reduce wealth inequality was something he said the labor party might do b/c they're under the control of capital.
How can we fix it??? 😭
April 18, 2024. The United Kingdom’s 2022-23 cost-of-living crisis triggered the steepest rise in 30 years in the number of UK citizens falling into “absolute poverty” - and worse is yet to come.
And Boris still pushing the war to continue..
Stewart Lansley with the facts.
Indeed Keir Starmer's dad was a tool maker 😂
Ill wait an see. Actions speak louder than words 💯
14yrs of austerity tends to do that when social services r being slashed while ur politians r so rich that they have never even seen proverty
Anglo saxon model of government (democracy) is responsible for this situation. Amen.
Democracy system is coming from ancient Greek.
What is coming from the UK is Capitalism.
Shame there isn’t a land of economic opportunity where people could migrate to
all countries are going to turn out like Lebanon..
Lmao
@@TheUA-camUser69 A very thoughtful reply indeed.
🤣AND UK lecture HK everyday
Cutting taxes to combat inflation is like screwing for virginity.
Dying to live
Poverty in the UK is when your family earn less than 3000 pounds But government makes sure that every family has these 3000 pounds. Well the rent can be like from 1400 to 1800 pounds... No country in the world can pay enough money to rent an apartment for free, only UK does that. Let's be honest they are not poor, they were forced into laziness. It is easier to stay at home and get nearly the same amount of money from the state. These transfers push the inflation, and of course it cannot last forever... One day or another people would face the consequences
What are you talking about mate! It says on the video that majority of the children under poverty are coming from working parents.
Are you able to understand English or is it too hard for you?
To be clear the child poverty levels are significantly lower in Scotland thanks to policies put in place by the Scottish government.
It's estimated to be at 26% for this year for Scotland so it's lower but I wouldn't say significantly.
Freedom to Scotland now !
They should just declare independence tbh.
Behold the fruit of voting Conservative and leaving the EU. Time for a change.
The very nature of the UK political system prevents anyone with 'transformative policies' (whatever that means) from reaching power.
Britain thinks economics would be improved by working with G7 countries is ridiculous.
Both main parties are promising more austerity. Labour did not win, the tories lost. Less people voted for labour than in 2019. 35% is not a majority, at least not in a democracy.
People need to understand that right wing politics always has been about ignoring the poor and benefit of the rich.
While blaming the poor to stoke division so that everyone cannot see the rich benefiting themselves! Clever, aren't they.
Voters had given more than enough mandate and time to conservative party. But i don't understand why voters continue to support failed conservative policy on poverty, inflation, economy mismanagement and Brexit.
Defintition of "poverty" by UK parliament; Relative low income: "This refers to people living in households with income below 60% of the median in that year.". So anyone with less than about 2/3 of the median average is defined as "in poverty" - that does not make you POOR.
True, it measures inequality, not actual standard of living.
Countries that, according to world bank, have less poor people than UK:
Kosovo
Laos
Philippines
Cambodia
Namibia
Bosnia
Tunisia
Botswana
Jordan
Georgia
India!!!😂
Uzbekistan
Hungary
Russia
Indonesia (about 50% less poor people than UK!😁)
Belarus (4x less poor people!😁)
Morocco
Vietnam
And the big winner? Ukraine! 10times less poor people than in UK. This has to be a mistake?😂 i demand a recount😂
Ohh wait government just made up what poverty is. Sunak could solve this tomorrow by simply lowering the poverty line.🤔😁
"Oh wait, governments can just make up what poverty is"
To correct myself

30%? Thats bs.
Nobody is in poverty in the UK unless they try really hard to be, it's calculated as a percentage of annual income, when wages rise more people are in 'poverty' even though they're no poorer than they were yesterday.
And in the end they shall be led by children.
