Should child benefits be extended or scrapped? Feat. Wilfred & Nelufar | Storm Huntley

  • Labour are coming under fire for refusing to scrap the two child limit on benefits if they win the election.
The cap restricts child tax credit and universal credit to just the first two children in most households. If it was axed, families could claim about £3,200 a year per extra child.
But shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting said But Labour say dealing with child poverty is about more than so-called 'handouts'.
Rishi Sunak is also sticking with the limit, arguing that families on benefits need 'to make the same financial decisions' as working families.
However, in recent days former Conservative Home Secretary Suella Braverman and previous prime minister Gordon Brown have spoken out against it.
Mr Brown told Sky's Sophy Ridge that Labour must help children who've grown up under Tory rule.

Parents are punished mothers are not allowed to bring up their own children, they are forced to go out to work to hand their children to a childminder and end up with no financial benefit because they have to pay most of their wages to the child minders. Then our children grow up disconnected from their parents and then we wonder why families are falling apart. It’s crazy!

The less time mothers/parents spend with their children the worse the crime and anti social behaviour appears to be in society. Wilfred seems to think that there is no benefit to society in helping parents to be able to afford to have kids. Doing away with any help for parents will further reduce the birth rate which is already a problematic issue going forward. We need children for our society to thrive.

All our industries have been sold off therefore we don’t have enough well paid jobs for the majority to survive on. We paid our State Pension via National Insurance and taxes. I believe we need a new system where we pay money to the Government over our working life to get a pension that we can pay extra into this will also allow us to be free from the benefit system and then we could decide when we wanted to retire and not have our retirement date determined by the government.

My thing is, when are parents ever ever going to be held accountable for their very poor family planning skills? Child benefit isn't a right you know. You blame the gvt instead of the parents for bringing kids into the world when they can't afford . That's the problem . I assess a lot of generational benefits users who prefer to stay on benefits than to work, and as much as people hate it and don't want to acknowledge it, 72% of users iv assessed ,it has been a lifestyle choice. Sadly Britain is broke caused mainly by unrestricted migration and the absurd rule that migrants are entitled to benefits healthcare and a home as soon as they set foot in the UK. I am not against giving help, as long as it’s balanced and does not as it has adversely affect our economy and the lives of citizens domicile in the UK. Unfortunately the citizens of the UK are being forced to pay the price of this unrestrained Migration. Through cuts to welfare, benefits for the sick and disabled, Senior citizens State Pensions and now child benefits? It feels like those at the bottom and in most need of help are having to pay the price of Government failures. Slowly but surely this country is becoming more like a third world country. We are becoming a dictatorship. That’s not a fair way to treat people, they didn’t vote this government in to destroy our democracy or our economy. We desperately need a change of government and policies to get this country back on track. There are so many things that have gone wrong ,and that needs to be prioritised. If we don’t get organised as a country and start working together for the benefit of all then we are all doomed. You can’t get blood out of a stone, and we can’t fix the economy by printing anymore money. We all need to wake up to the reality that we are a broken society.

People who come to this country they themselves might not be entitled but when they have children in the U.K. the child who is born here will get child benefit. The child born or not in this country should only be entitled if their parents are legally entitled to life in the U.K. not just to come and breed. Also if you are having children then you should only have them if you can afford them, I personally believe if it’s capped after 2 children then people who sit and breed just to rely on benefits will stop!
