    Know what'd be nice? If some of the people connected to the quests in FO76 actually survived, but just fled once the scorchbeasts attacked. Then, once the Wastelanders DLC comes out, you could actually talk to them about what you discovered.

      It's been twenty-five years. Most of them are dead, dying or too old to travel the wastes. MOST people wh get the kind of radiation poison we're dealing with are NOT going to survive long enough to come back...I'm surprised they have children younger than twenty-five.
      While WV was not directly hit and none of it's power plants had melt downs, there is still a LOT of background radiation (not just from the Scorchbests though they don't help) and more coming down every day and without a functional working society yet, we have NO active hospitals or treatment centers, which means no cancer treatments, no burn units, nothing that would actually AID anyone to survive that long.

    It's so cool how this quest acknowledges New Vegas and their casinos. However, I also feel a bit frustrated that there aren't more clues that link Shanghai Sally to this whole conspiracy. 5:47 I think that the semingly random stuff that you find in that room were hints to where you needed to find what was needed to fill up the empty spaces on the board. Example being the detective case files being a subtle hint to go look for the police station to get the package. When you think about it makes sense as to why there are two misc. items that would seem to be completely out of place, but were actually hints for where you needed to go.

      Launch really was an absolute travesty despite this and absolutely blame Zenimax studios' greed. Todd and his team were given a project that was a mutated version of their original goal, a multiplayer Fallout game. Give it a little more time and I think they will seize that dream back. @@a15godzilla it's interesting, the team has definitely had a boost in revenue with their atomic shop despite how much people hate it it feels like.
      Bethesda cited that in 2019 over a billion atoms were spent. If only half of them were purchased, that is still them grossing between 2M and 9M dollars. They also sold 1.4M copies of the game by the end of 2018 (another 41M, averaged a sale price of 30 dollars a game to be conservative). Soooo yeah, 50M in revenue with a team of 30 isn't too shabby.
      Even if they spend a smidge of money that they have made back on the game, that is some solid content.
      I'm really hoping this translates to that, would not hesitate to think so if this were 2017, but I just don't trust them enough and will believe it when I see it.

    8100³yrd × 3= 24,300³feet. I'm no engineer, so correct me if I'm wrong (anyone) but that sounds like a reasonable amount of concrete for some of the large bunkers we find in the fallout universe.

    • @ARCHarrison
      @ARCHarrison 5 років тому +4

      It's not 24,300 cubic feet. It's 218,700 cubic feet, a cubic yard is 27 cubic feet. Both invoices together equal 442,800 cubic feet, I don't have any real concept for how much that is.

    • @ARCHarrison
      @ARCHarrison 5 років тому +2

      Actually, I found a handy calculator, 16400 cu yards of concrete will make a single slab of concrete 600 feet wide by 600 feet long by 14.76 inches thick. That's almost enough space to fit eight American football fields on in a 2x4 grid, if you drop the end zones and make them a little skinnier.

    • @Dat-Mudkip
      @Dat-Mudkip 5 років тому

      But doesn't that seem a bit excessive, even for a Vault?
      You gotta remember that probably at least half of the vault would be "hollow". You're calculations are assuming this is all just one giant block of concrete, which it's not.

    • @ARCHarrison
      @ARCHarrison 5 років тому

      @@Dat-Mudkip How big do you want the vault to be? Making it hollow just means the building materials can be "stretched" further.
      Very roughly speaking, I don't have the calculations on hand that I did 2 weeks ago, 16,400 cu yards of concrete will produce something like 200 1500 sq ft rooms but that's if they only use it to make rooms and not for other things, like hallways, foundation footing, pillars, and all the other important little things that go into construction
      Also, I wasn't assuming anything, I offered the slab because I felt it would more clearly illustrate, in the most straight forward terms possible, the sheer amount of concrete in question. I could have just as easily said 360,000 1 foot x 1 foot x 14.76 inch blocks and expected anyone reading it to imagine building the Vault (Minecraft-style) out of them, but I didn't.

    For monetary context, the Fallout Universe pre-war dollar had undergone MASSIVE inflation, and had very little value. For example, the price tag for an issue of Guns and Bullets, ostensibly an analogue for Guns and Ammo, a $5 magazine, cost $33 (it's right there on the covers). Other such mags with visible price tags are similarly priced, with Hot Rodders being priced at $35, Robco Fun costing $40, and Astoundingly Awesome Tales costing $29. (Being expies of Hot Rod magazine, $8, Gaming magazine, $9, and Amazing Stories magazine, which used to sell for $7 an issue but is now more of a novel and anthology publishing company) Meaning that that 10,000 dollar fine was probably valued at more around 2k or maybe even $1500 in value. This is actually why Pre-War Money is just about ALWAYS found in STACKS... a couple of bills wouldn't buy you ANYTHING.

    I don't think Bethesda intended datamining to be the solution to this quest. I can't imagine devs discussing it like "ok but no quest markers, if they want to complete the quest they need to be able to datamine lmao"
    Datamining is just what we, the players, used as a shortcut to find the solution quicker. The quest was supposed to be like a big mystery, and Beth expected the community to solve it together (since it's an online game). Many other games have the same type of hidden secrets that people on forums or reddit discuss, share clues and figure out together. Like FF:06:B5 mystery in Cyberpunk for example. Unfortunately datamining kind of ruined the fun and the mystery of it all.
    As you see there is no reward at the end of the quest, you're not missing out on any crucial content or legendary equipment, so this was not supposed to be a generic solo side quest. More like a wink and a nod to the fo76 community to see if we can crack it together. And as a reward we get a sneak peak at the future update, which at the time was Wastelanders.

    I have to say, for as frustrated as it might've made people, making them resort to data mining, I kinda like that it doesn't hold our hand all the way through. It makes you pay a little more attention and when you stumble on stuff by pure chance, it makes me feel excited "Oh wait! this is more of that weird conspiracy crap!" and then resparks my interest.

    Perhaps, as a Theory, maybe they were building a vault to study Cryptoids... After all, the (Spoiler) Grafton monster was -put into a larger cell to wait for transportation- as did the Snallygaster from the FEV labs, perhaps it was a future site for the FEV study or Cryptozoology.

    When I saw the IF on the note, I thought it was a reference to the comany "Idea Factory," a sort of rival to Bethesda, but based out of Japan. They work with the company "Compile Heart" to produce a good number of games, one of which evolved into a massive series that's 10 years old this year. If this is a hidden reference, I would be gobsmacked that Bethesda took the time to do that

The other was "The Pandora Directive", some one mention calling help lines before the internet became a good working thing, we spent some good money on making it though Pandora on path "A". Brings back some good memories, loved the lore and keep up the good work we love your channel and gear.

    watching this after wastelanders comes out is great because i had no idea this was even in the game when i started playing, the care and attention to detail that went into this quest that most people haven't done and won't do is shocking, this would have been a really really good way to build up hype for wastelanders so why they didn't make it a quest even a miscellaneous one is beyond me. It does raise the question of if they plan on or have already done something similar to this and we haven't found it yet, these kinds of mysteries is one of the best thing about FO76 so i hope they do more. amazing video.

    Sadly, I think theyre finally listening to a reviewer that... you know how it goes. Best intentions but unintended consequences.
    A long time back a (primarily) games channel, Hbomberguy, put out a video called "Fallout 3 sucks (and here's why)". One major thing that made him freak out was quest markers. He treated them like the devil. He apparently thought that a world.filled with bad physics, random rubble and ridiculous amounts of shadow was the kind of world where tiny necessary assets should be untethered and found by intuition. Maybe he had a point, probably not, but it was his major complaint. Maybe others echoed it. And Bethesda listened. Maybe they're going to cancel quest markers. That will be a nightmare.

    Hey Oxhorn! This all seems to be linked to the Wastelanders DLC which was delayed. I suspect the reason there is no markers or quest details, is because it isn't all in the game yet. The art for the Wastelanders DLC shows a "Vault 79" with a partial open wheel door that have yellow objects in it. The theory is that the abstract art design of such means the 'treasure' is in Vault 79 (or was supoosed to be if it isn't) and we wont be seeing the inside of Vault 79 until Wastelanders has been released early next year.

    48:22 Important note here that he does not mention, you need those 6 numbers for the keypad at the cave in the next step. These numbers are unique to each player, so you need the numbers you get here. You really should have mentioned this BEFORE leaving, instead of mentioning it at the keypad. Also, showing map locations would have been helpful so we wouldn't need to check the Wiki.

      I also want to add that I am a trucker as well, all the scales i've gone over measure in the order of 20 lbs increments. As well most, and I do mean most scales close at night. That is why 'outlaw' truckers run during the night, it is easier to not get busted for rolling heavy at night.

    I gotta say that I love the lack of help given on this quest (tho yeah maybe a lil excessive in certain cases) because for me alot of the quests in fallout games start t feel like follow the dot on the compass, kill anything in your way till you hit E on the waypoint. This feels like they are attempting to move away from that so even if they get it a lil wrong as they learn I'm all for it.

    20 million dollars?!? That's almost pocket change. Consider this: if you look at the skill books in Fallout 3, the D.C. Journal of Family Medicine has a price printed on it, that price being 48 dollars. Figure that even in our time, a specialist publication like that could cost over 200 bucks a year to subscribe to, and that means you're getting each monthly issue at a discount, and it still costs over 16 dollars an issue. Prices per gallon for coolant in Fallout 4 are listed in dollars on the big numbers and cents following, and are over 100 bucks a gallon.
    I'm thinking that the gambling involved was a decidedly penny-ante game for only 20 million dollars, and the reaction was widely overblown. Someone is more likely to have said "Wait until she gets some real money...".
