Stoicism is the conscious assertation of only devoting your time, energy, attention and resources to the intersect of things that are important and things within your control.
Great philosophy without any fancy concepts, but helpful and practical in every day life. You don’t even need to know stoicism in order to live like a stoic person….
This is some of the best advice and truth. We get into other peoples business and lives and we should be working on ourselves, “ up to you” If you want to see change, “be the change”

When in doubt do your job. I learned that in football. So if I'm overwhelmed in the morning with all the stuff i need to do I concentrate on my job: feed the cat, change its water, clean the litter, water the plant, shower, by then everything is clear.
Okay. Very well. But my question is that, what about if I never get to know what is actually in my control & what's the best I can do. Reaching the right decisions & choosing the best I can do needs some CRITICAL ANALYTICAL PROLONGED THINKING. Only then I can spend my time & energy to know what's really in my power & whats the best plan I can have about it.
I hope you’ll get my point and can answer this question from a stoic perspective. How does this apply on for example: seeing the future of society threatened by the Woke ideology? Should I just not pay attention to this concern which I certainly cannot solve or control by myself.. I mean it won‘t affect my personal traditional views on gender and marriage for example, they still belong to me and are under my control but what If my right to free speech is threatened? Should I just apply to their rules because me by myself can‘t handle it. Should i even regularly state my opinion or shouldn’t I ever because the whole societal problems are not in my charge and therefore senseless to care about in the first place… or am I being too nihilistic rn? Have a nice day.
One thing that I get super confused about is romantic relationships. Is it in my control or not? Cus if it is in my control, I must be doing something terribly wrong. If it’s not in my control when the right one will come along, well then that would help me feel better. But I feel like it’s a bit of both. Who you allow in is definitely up to you… but when someone may come along, is not up to us. So it’s a bit frustrating to say the least.
The problem is the line is not clear. For example, my children were kidnapped and have now been disappeared. I was in control of none of this, and am still not in control. Nonetheless, I hope that by fighting for my boys every day, "It might make a difference" to quote you. There is no way of telling if it will make a difference, and "everyone says" it's not up to me. But in matters of the heart, and basic principles of justice, one must fight even the things that are not up to you.
I think this is how government eventually corrupts… we just ignore what we view as untouchable/uncontrollable. Next thing you know, your rights are gone and you’re living in an open space prison system.
But in a life where you live in a society, you cannot but rely on others. Society is people who have specialized on something, so we all depend on each other for the good or service that we as specialized produce and consume. Society means interdependence. We nececessarily depend on others living in any society.
Excellent idea for clear cut things, but how does change activism fit into this I wonder. Wrestling with something that everyone says is immovable but your dream is creating a better world like MLK for example.
No music, no fancy editing, nothing but straight wisdom from people with more of a clue than us. Thank you, Ryan!
Yip, not like the conventional youtubers. His content is not cringey

I think it's a polish saying that goes something like " not my circus, not my monkeys". Exactly.

@Daily stoic
It would be nice if you can give examples or elaborate more about, what is up to us and what is not..
It is so simple yet so hard to follow sometimes. Just get better bit by bit.
Put the cap on that Sharpie before it dries out.
That’s not up to you
Let it go
Let's focus on our own sharpie, right in front of us.

I am new to Stoicism. This is actually a complicated dichotomy.
Clear and to the point. I love it.
There is nothing know to be up to us or not up to us
If u want it get it
Do whatever it takes to get what you want
Please make a medaillon for this!

Sounds similar to eastern philosophy
... Are you chopping invisible wood? Or cutting through the jungle with your machete?
Trying to not worry about what is not up to us is also worrying...stoicism is flawed in its basic definition
