    A fine example of what a high pressure hose reel can do. I've had people from the States abuse me about that, saying you NEVER fight a fire with the reel, but we do it all the time in Europe, and as you see in this example it works. A US department might spend a long time pulling hundreds of feet of hose off the truck as the fire spread, when a fast use of the reel would knock the fire down.

      I am from the states and I agree with you. If you can put foam through it that's even better. I see people pulling large lines they can't handle.

      Yes indeed most fires now can be dealt with the mordern HP reel and if needed it gives time for hoselines to be layed whilst the fire is being tackled, better having some water going onto it than none.

      We in Germany don´t use the high pressure hose (just in case of vehivle fires)...depends on the fire. In case of big structural fires the hose with more valume may be favourable....

      Well the building itself was not on fire, now was it? It appeared to me that the fire was limited to the exterior....the awnings perhaps. • @stevebailey6403
      @stevebailey6403 4 роки тому +1

      I'm not saying it was an ass kicking fire , I was just committed on what I saw , regardless of size of the fire in the u s a they love cutting holes in the roof of fire effected buildings . I think this is mental . I did 16 years as a firefighter in the u.k b t w .

    • @azul8811
      @azul8811 4 роки тому

      @@stevebailey6403 IMHO there are certainly fires where vertical ventilation is not at all required. This fire seems to be one of them. And that's because it does not appear to have involved the building proper. BTW, I also understood that you were giving us a shot... so I gave you one back.
      My point is twofold. First, that referencing this piss ass fire as some sort of a benchmark for firefighting tactics is laughable. Secondly, there are more than 1.2 million firefighters in the USA (31% career; 69% volunteers). Which were you referring to? Do you think that they all operate the same?
      Show me a fire blowing out the 3rd floor window in a fully occupied, non-fireproof 4 story tenement, with reports of people trapped on the top floor rear at two o'clock in the morning. Reference a fire like that, and then we can quibble about tactics. We can talk about line positioning, forcible entry, laddering, search & rescue, ventilation, manning, etc. Fair enough?

    :43 seconds from arrival they have water on the fire. Granted it’s not much more than a garden hose but it’s amazing what quick water will do. A lot of American departments(and yes I work for one) would take 3-4 minutes laying out lines before water ever hit the fire.

    • @MrDeleneg
      @MrDeleneg 4 роки тому +10

      hahahaha You're right, in the United States you do everything big! But in Spain the larger caliber hoses would not be functional. In Spain as in the rest of Europe, we have street distributions that derive from ancient cities, some even from medieval times. Our historic districts have very narrow streets, which brings us a narrower emergency vehicle, with smaller deposits. We cannot throw too many liters per second, since we would run out of water before putting out a fire. Those hoses fire clean water and need to deal with fires. To obtain it, we have an extensive catalog of laws and regulations to prevent large-scale fires, such as fire-retardant building materials or passive fire systems.
      A greeting from Spain!!

    Different strokes for different folks, NIST Govs Island experiment disproved and proved many things. I am now converted and think as much as you can, fast as you can, with whatever you can. And truck mounted turrets are way under used, that is now the first thing going in seconds if doable . Granted every situation is different and each job must be evaluated on its own variables, but the science behind what NIST science showed blew me away. Especially the Impact on heat and reducing temps by so much in so little time was astounding. It might take generations to,change the mindset and culture. Regardless though, all,have to,work with what and who ya got, better that than no one and as long as you get home after shift, all is good! Not hating on US firefighters or anything, but I've seen a lot of videos of them and I say this in a comedic sense, but if this fire was in the US, 5 trucks would come initially, then 50 fat firefighters would come out of the trucks, take 10 minutes to equip, draw 20 lines and then the 10 ladders would come and flatten the whole place with those powerful streams of water.

      Pumpers in the Netherlands usually have 2x 100m HP reel. For these kind of structure fires like in the video, in The Netherlands the 1st due pumper mostly will have 2 FF's with 1 HP reel line go in for fire suppression/rescue, 2 FF establishing water supply and building the low pressure lines.
      If there are reports of people possible inside, 4 FF with 2 HP reel lines will go in for fire suppression/rescue and the 2nd due pumper will establish the water supply/building low pressure line etc.
      But there is a lot you can do with the HP reel lines..
