This version of Be a Body is incredible. Darker and more atmospheric.
You're a true fan
its a cacophony wtf are you on about "incredible"
It reminds of walking on Santa Monica beach in the summer evening 😍😍😍😍
I have to agree 100% it's so much better. this video was actually my first time hearing it
Me too and its the best version.
Watching her make music is almost as fun as listening to the music
Skylar O'kane more*
way more but yeah lol
"Check check check, EHH AY EHH"
omg im laughing af
ugh i love who she was in 2012
I think it was a joke cause she actually gagged lol
I like her because she's so relatable... Like she fucks up the timing of her samples in the beginning and you and see her visibly distressed. That's so me as a musician.
That to me is a shit musician. How can you fuck up basically doing nothing?
😊
I didn't know people were capable of being this cool
New age hippy movement 😎
meatmxn that’s not true. there are so many underrated artists that both of us probably don’t know that make music similar/better than grimes. it’s ignorant to say that a whole generation is filled with wannabes.
meatmxn this shit isn’t even hipster tho?? stuff like this will unfortunately never be mainstream
Authentic
@@xchorro There’s a difference between having a lot and being full of. There are 7 billion people.
We’ll never see Grimes like this again probably, which is sad.
:(
:(
why not?
That's life, people change. I'm glad she made so many good songs in the past.
@Sorcerer I agree. The mainstream poison is seeping in.
I haven't fangirled this hard since Nirvana.
Urtė Katiliūtė foreal lmao same since Alice in chains layne days
💜💜💜
♡︎
and cc.
Ya basic
I tried to do a live performance with a similar setup and it is so insanely difficult to concentrate on looping and singing and playing. Never again. It's like a miracle when things sync up.
Loopers need a math brain. Mine is: not 😻
Hentai404 practice. I do it every day. It takes skill and dedication hahaha
you’ll get it eventually lol
no quantisation?
@@thetree9399 It didn't really exist in hardware at the time. It was doable through Ableton but I wanted to be non-laptop for some reason.
The mug, the lamp, the wires, the litlle doodle in the wall with the flasher, the collection of rugs
EVERYTHING IS PERFECT
Watching her work on the song is like watching a sushi chef prepare your food
Grimes has such a rad sound. She's inspiring like everything is so DIY and her voice IS great. It's so cute and it contrasts beautifully w her music. Try being this talented. If don't like the music or singing at least respect how she writes produces and sings her own stuff.
Dahlia Lolita yeah she like DEFINES indie music, she does ALL of the work
Watching her create music is seriously astonishing. She is one of those artists that are so incredibly sensitive to sound that you can hardly believe it.
Why is everyone saying she's out of tune? It just sounds different from the album version.. and it's amazing, at all.
👍
I love this performance...it's organic...it's lovely to see people work with their craft...we love her because she is herself x
It sounds more as if she's harmonising.
Reydson Lee she sounds fine to me idk
Nah it's just cos your tone deaf, haha
This is Grimes at her greatest: a mad fucking scientist twisting knobs and shit, making something fucking beautiful.
8:02 when she looked up at the interviewer that was very adorable, shes like completely different after the performance
she's dancing with her feet ^^
That says it all really, she was enjoying some cramped knees, stretched tendons and hamstrings and
knobbly ankles and tapping those cute black tight enclosed Grimes feet.
My Obsession is very granular and focused.
05: 05 uwu she’s adorable
i dont know if people realize this, but this is so goth. i love this.
am i the only person who really likes the vocals in this?
yes
we checked and it looks like this is the case; those thirty likes on your comment were Russian bots
It's great has a punk feel. These kids don't know shit.
I think you are
Definitely not
The way she shouts "be a body" is outta this world
I'm more fascinated by what she's doing rather than her actual singing.
It seems that nowadays she sings so much better
She's a pretty shitty singer, but her tracks sound cool as hell.
+SNOWMΛN She actually has a sweet voice... that could _definitely_ use
some training. However, in more recent performances, while she's still singing out of key here and there, she seems a lot more confident and does so with certain "punky" IDGAF attitude that suits her music quite well.
She also goes into all-out Banshee-mode more often.
+NIMRODakaNIMROD CHeck out her other live performances, she does very well. I suspect she was just having an off day here.
Well this in an old comment but anyways she has said that producing and making the beats is more of her thing and singing feels sometimes uncomfortable to her. But I have to say I really like that "punk" feeling in her singing here, no matter if its a bit off key. She takes risks and not trying to be perfect. :3
This Live performance is Way better than the studio/album version....way more real and raw...
This is so good, I hope she isn't too hard on herself still. The groove is solid and her raw talent shows in these older videos.
I'm a singer/guitarist, and never expected to be so impressed or to be so affected by a song or to be mesmerised in watching it being created in real time. I've never heard anything like this! It was as if Grimes thoughts were being heard out loud and the beats she chose with that low sound, the buttons she chose for sound input, it was all just right and blended beautifully. It was so easy to float into another realm listening to this. It was ethereal and more hypnotic than Enya's music! This girl is more than talented, she is creating feelings with colours and the vocals were placed uncannily so perfect within the realm she conjured up. Calmness, soothing and resonating, I didn't want it to stop...
And I can never listen to modern music as it's usually too predictable, but this................ this was something else! She did it all 'live' and I cannot imagine the recording being as good. Her cute angelic face just topped it off with such innocence. The sounds allowed for pure escapism and I will be playing this again and again. Surely this must be Grimes best song?
Queen of Mars - I feel bad for anyone who can’t appreciate this genius
I come here at least once a week. Brilliant! I love her old stuff soooo much!
For all who think she can't perform live; The offbeats and disharmonies give the needed charm to her songs. If you can't feel it I just have to say sorry for you...
Imperfection is an art.
She's amazing
They're missing out on the experience for sure!
exactly. i like this version better than the official album version haha
totally agree, the imperfections tune it into a masterpiece
She's so fkn lovely.
Grimes is so fucking inspiring. Hopefully I reach this level of expertise in my pursuits. Absolutely crazy shit
Be a body to this 8 minutes and 48 seconds each day and see results. Dang my heart is pumping. Thanks for the serotonin and inspiration Grimes 🙏
I wasn't into this kind of music before. GRIMES just popped my cherry.
she can influence emotions with her voice
Yes!
beautiful, amazing, exquisite, magnificent, elegant, showstopping, completely never done before, totally unique
“100 days, 1000 years” I’ve never heard those lyrics until now and I’m high, y’all. Lol. Fucking love her!! Especially the dark and haunting shit.
I'm a bit late responding to this but what is the time stamp for the part where you can hear "100 days, 1000 years"? I don't ever really think it's necessary in most music that artists have to sing their lyrics to be completely clear and understandable. But I'm just curious about Grimes' lyrics because they're often so... cryptic... But still just as evocative as if you were hearing clearly sung lyrics with meaningful poetry. Sorry, this probably made no sense. I am also high lol
@@kmdn1 hey! It’s at the 6:55 mark. I love that you can’t understand most of her lyrics and some of her songs like Symphonia IX is so beautiful but the end as I describe it, is a spiraling dark hole or Darkseid, it’s super dark OR Urban Twilight, that’s a super dark song and I LOVE it. I also love listening to her music when I get nice and stoned lol.
@@Ryanlovestobake hi! :) You're totally right! "Hundred daaaaaaays.... Thousand yeeeeeeeeeeeaars"
I do that while listening to music too. Even without any lyrics to give you a mental picture, somehow the music makes you conjure up very specific abstract mental images with a mood or feelings connected to it... Like when you see some image in a dream and for some reason it makes you feel terrified or happy or sad but you have no idea why.
I just noticed in Symphonia IX she sings the words "dark side". . or darkseid?
@@kmdn1 I agree, and something about Grimes’ music just I can’t explain it, it fills me with so much happiness but other songs like Know the Way can make me so fucking sad and wanna cry, hahha. Oooo I think in Symphonia, she’s saying something like uhhh “to be in a dark side, be in a deep mind” that’s what I think she’s saying.
@@Ryanlovestobake it reminds me a bit of some Burial songs. That low synth line with weird vocals. Gotta love living in this day and age with so much music at our disposal
brilliant. I love how her tracks evolve instead of following verse/chorus/verse/chorus..
LOVE Grimes. She is a TRUE artist.
72 people did not close their eyes until they saw....
MrWitchman1967 hahahah 😂😂😂
Those same people think Pop music is music also...
Maybe they did close their eyes and missed the like button
this is next level. i bet no one could reach this level again.
Bjork without a doubt
phew this is so energetic yet so calming i’m so confused
I love how chanty and trancey this is ☁️☁️☁️🤗😍🧚🏻♀️🛸🔮
She reminds me of KraftWerk in their early years, a diamond in the rough.
Great sound scape.
Grimes taught me how to drive.
I came across BE a body after diving into Visions album. I had no idea Grimes was on this level a decade ago. WHAT THE HELL DID MUSK DO TO HER?
Fills me with nostalgia and drive and desire to do great things.
I remember hearing this album and watching this performance for the first time in 2012. Really manic and confusing time of my life. Hearing this again provokes some painfully cathartic nostalgia. Selective memory just associates this sound with all the fun times, long nights with friends, or alone.
The psychedelics, the feeling of actually being inspired, hopeful, angry, and passionate. Not knowing what was around the corner and that not realizing the most volatile time might have been the best time of my life.
I saw her perform at Pemberton in 2014. All my buddies went to other stages. They didn't know or care for the music.
They missed out.
Thanks for the memories Claire :)
looks like she was crying because she screwed up the beginning! I wanted to hug her
She is 110% completly in the music...it's a joy to witness.
Some of her most genius and artistic work. Her older music is soooo much better than the newer stuff.
I really loved this. Claire has pure talent. And the noises she makes 😂
i love how real her performances are, i love when performances arent perfect it just is much cooler
Art for your ears
I love her vocals. The pitch perfect recorded ones, and the more raw slightly out of tune ones as well x3
This is actually not just different from the Album version but, also better in many ways - perhaps it's just the 'liveness' of it that trumps the other version.
This is the only version I know.
There are legit studies out there that live performances really do give aesthetic satisfaction to people. ♥️ Studied it for master's.
I absolutely adore her.
At first her singing is surprising but it really grows on you. It's fascinating to watch her perform !
I miss the old Grimes. 😢
Such a sign of strength and tenacity🎉🎉🎉🎉
This is my favorite video on youtube and has been for a while
La verdad es que subestimaba a esta chamaca, pero me encantó. La amo!!!
this reminds me of my other fav band , Tune Yards. The looping is amazing
a true artist.
A young lady I know introduced me to Grimes and I'm hooked. She's very talented and her voice is hauntingly beautiful. It's always great to see how she does it. Amazing. 🌹
just because some of the timing's out on the sequencer or whatever plays back the loops does not make it completely horrible. apart from that there is nothing objective wrong with it.
although you may not like the change of vocals, I think they make a much more ominous song.
God I LOVE her old stuff! I wish she’d release something a bit closer to this!
It seems like it comes so natural to her
Умничка, правда! Зауважал еще больше за правду! Молодчинка. Большой труд!
this lady has been on kexp for a while! props to her
someone help me i can’t stop watching this
i love you grimes!!!!
I LOVE grimes. i wish i had her talent
"I screwed up a bit on that one" haha how cute
Damn I recently found about this song from pandora and found out this gem released in 2012 damn I slept so heavy on this type of music
wow, amazing !!! love this performance. Thank you ! Xx
I keep coming back to this so intriguing
Love it. Could watch her all day.
Awesome !! First video I've seen of her: blown away !
I love her human limitations making music
Eu amo essa menina!

Not gonna lie, I miss this Grimes. :\

Ugh she's so awesome.
So awesome!
Wow..i absolutely love this ! Its such a unique and incredible sound, it makes me think of the origins of the universe and time travel...such talent and so cute
Maravilhosa!!!! Brasil te ama
Amazzzing.Ly Beautiful ❣️ an amazing artist, Thank You for sharing, a beautiful creation.
Awnnn her smiles is just sooooo sweet *-*
The best type of vocals!
She got skills! I luv this
I'm so....in love..
Same!
Lo que admiro a esta mina, es increible
I love her so much
What a wonderful song.
Amazing!
she's so mesmerising to watch!
This planet isn't big enough for her. She is already on Mars selling out venues. Creative genius.
I love thats she seems so timid yet outgoing...brave and bold yet reserved. I think its cool how everything with her is like an experimental type sound, be brqve enuf to feel it, ride it and explore the moment. Im definitely way late to the party but im a fan!
I'm so inspired 😍🙏
Love her so much
