Problem is, the Genesis Flashback was a really good budget system and they just shut it down for no reason. Bigger, with a working cartridge slot and support for Game Gear and Master System games, and a better selection of built in games. The only real argument against it is "Wah wah wah, the sound pitch is low like playing on a PAL system." It is an underrated plug and play console.

The opinion that they should take the secondary market into account when selecting the games is really strange. The entire point of a system such as this to have the most iconic games on them so why would they include rare and obscure games that most people have never played?
Because ultimately those are games that will never really get played outside of real hardware or ISO distributions. And the only people that will bother with either are collectors, hardcore gamers, and archivists. So being able to see a few of these rare and hard to come by games outside of those owned by private collections and archives is always a treat and can bring a lot of value to interested buyers.
The way I took it, with Ryan talking about he only knew a couple people who had it and never got to play it for any length, is that all of the games are relatively obscure and most people haven't played any of them so to those who do know anything about the system, those rare and hard to find games would be a massive reason to get it.
lordxmugen Sorry but have to disagree with you. A company doesn’t make money by only catering to the collectors they want to cater to the massmarket. That is the only way they make their money back and anything else would just be bad business.
Thanks Cinemassacre for introducing Turbografx 16 to me. Because of that I found Castlevania Rondo of Blood and it's immediately became my favorite Castlevania games.
I just want to point out the Motoroader back in the day, with a few friends, was a laugh riot! Some of the fondest gaming memories i have are having huge sessions with 5 controllers in my room with 4 friends crammed in there, always one guy complaining about warping because he couldn't upgrade his car. It was flawed, but could be damn fun at a time when that type of fun was rare. Same goes for Dungeon Explorer, except game is more widely regarded as a fantastic game anyway. Was more in depth than Gauntlet.
Thank you for saying this! I have alot of siblings and my Uncle had the turbo tap so five players for motor rotor, dungeon explorer, Bomberman and some wrestling game I can't remember the name but great times.
I remember there being a Motor rotor 2 that was only in Japanese and my uncle had this crazy converter device for the turbo graphics so we were able to play it had cars, tanks, and hover cars along with some insane power-ups if I remember correctly
I love River City Ransom on the Turbografx 16. For me, it has the most catchiest Double Twins theme. It start sweet and adorable, and then the guitar kicks in!
Great video as always guys, I bought it the TGx16 mini. Im the 36 year old kid that just does not have the time to get in to the PVM game. Wish I could. Heard a ton about TGx16 as a kid and always new someone who new someone who had one. Rarely got to play it. So far some really good games. Wish you could play Snatcher in English. Keep up the good work fellas.
Neutopia, Cadash, Splatterhouse, Rondo of Blood, Ys, Ninja Spirit, Military Madness, Ghouls & Ghosts, Ninja Gaiden, Bomberman 94 are ALL great non shooters on this mini system. Still lacks Legendary Axe 1 and 2
There is a secret command to play the "arcade" versions of Fantasy Zone, R-Type and Gradius on the Turbografx mini by just holding the Select button while booting the games.
Ive always wanted to get a TurboGrafx but i've never even seen one in person in my life. This is the most plausable way I see for me getting Rondo of Blood and Splatterhouse so just for that this thing would be totally worth it for me.
For those of us who don’t have any modern consoles, and don’t have the money for the kind of collecting that comes with pc engine/tg-16 this is a cool facsimile.
For me the biggest let down is not having Bloody Wolf. I played the shiiiiiiiiiii out of that. It's outstanding. Oh and crater maze was also tons of fun.
I had this console and man the memories...I remember it was very expensive and it took my parents, grandparents and my uncle to get this for Christmas..so it will be nice to get myself one for this Christmas. Amazon has it post for a December 2020 release.
JJ and Jeff! I can remember playing a demo of this in my local Radio Shack as a kid! I liked playing it, and would stop in when I could to play, but I had no idea what it was call and I never got a TG16. I’ve always gone back and tried to find it later but nobody ever knew the game I was describing! Now that I know what it is, I can’t wait to find it again!
I'm glad they included Dungeon Explorer. I remember having a lot of fun with it and its sequel on a friend's TG-16. It and Military Madness are my two favorite games included in the mini. I've always preferred RPGs, strategy, and Action RPGs to most shooters.
Wait, the TG16 Mini is out? I thought it got delayed. Anyway, this seems like a good system. Some of the game choices are strange, but still seems like a good value.
Let’s be honest, this is a pretty piss poor moaning over nothing review. Anyone on the fence about buying one, don’t listen to this tosh, get one and you will not be disappointed. I have most of the mini consoles and this is my second fav, after the Snes one, and that only has about 22 games on it.
Dude, even happyconsole gamer said one game was unplayable due to lag. I watched Electronic playgrounds too. It definitely has a least a few issues people should understand.
Back, when I was in middle school, I had the original Turbo-Graphic 16 & other teenages would visit my dilapidated domicile just to play the game system because no one else had one
Hmm. The R-Type on this system was pure joy. Ninja Spirits is an underrated gem. But yes, the exclusion of Legendary Axe is a head scratcher. If one can find the translated texts for the japanese games, then this is a must buy
"J.J. & Jeff" is named "Katochan Kenchan" in Japan and it is based on 2 comedians very popular there, Cha Katou and Ken Shimura (who recently died because of the virus, rip...) The name of the game and the look of the characters were changed for the western audience because those 2 comedians are not very famous outside of Japan and some asian countries. I think the whole point of the game is to be like a giant joke, kind of the Penn & Teller game that AVGN made a video about it.
A lot of people dislike any video with Ryan. I like Ryan's comments he sounds excited about every topic he talks about. He's not the best orator but he sounds like that friend you had who was really into games and it perfectly fits the vibe of this series.
Review aside, I respect the effort in having a wide-shot with a real video call while Mike records his side with a real camera and then green-screening out the iPad for the close-up to cut in the clean feed and still synching it to the wide. Nice.
22:35 Me ( Doing my best impersonation of Boomstick from Death Battle ) : Hold on everybody, I'm ... getting a premonition. He's going to say "You should play Zelda!" Everyone : ... ... ... And a cow eats grass ... no sh*t Detective Pikachu!
It's weird, I've bought most of the official 'Classic' line of consoles, and while I liked the TG-16, it wasn't my favorite. And yet...I'm looking forward to this one, most of all. Likely because I haven't had the opportunity to explore a lot of these games fully. The NES Classic and SNES Classic felt like a reunion tour where I'd heard most of the hits. I will be very happy to finally get my hands on this.
I'd love a new model tv made for retro gaming, CRT, but as light and thin as possible, and mini consoles with those analog connections, although I guess maybe it's still not the same, if it's not the old console itself, but than still, I'd want a new retro TV thing in any case
I preordered a long time ago and still waiting to find out when it will be released since COVID-19. I wasn’t lucky enough to own or know someone who owned one. I am excited.
I *loved* Moto Roader! My mom used to live in a party house when I was a teenager and I often brought my TG16 with the multi-controller hub when I went over to visit. Playing 5-player MR matches were some of the fondest gaming memories I have.
Thanks to both of you. This is the best review of the Turbo Graphics Mini I have seen because your passion for it really comes through. This convinced me to get one!
How did you manage to get a US release version? I preorderd mine last year but now they said the release was now delayed for an undetermined time cause of corvid-19.
Disregard any purist speech made by game Divas on youtube. Out here in the real world, the TG16 Mini is one of the best minis hands down. Very well made and a great experience overall. That being said, I eagerly hope that it gets hacked so I can remove the shitty games and add the games of my choice.
When I was a kid, a friend of mine had the portable TG that took the same games as the big system. A quarter century later and we never saw that again.
Harsh review. I love mine so much I bought all 3 iterations. If they do a “DUO” version (and I think they should) then they should add in the omitted games like Legendary axe 1 & 2, Gate of Thunder and the Rayxamber games.
The great part about the PC Engine is that it had so many hardware iterations that kept quality games and new games coming regularly, you could do another follow-up mini and still have a substantial library for the next one.
You don't need one, as your TV has several USB ports to power it by...personally, i've got an extra 3-4 of those things i'll prob never use, as it is (this would be number 5, if i ordered it). The second CONTROLLER is what they should've included (as both the Genesis and the SNES did, at $20 LESS).
What do you get for a 100 dollars in this day and age? the problem with society is we all want top of the line Shit but wont rub two fucking nickels together to buy anything.
I had a friend who had a Turbo CD back in the 90's, I still kick myself for not trying to get it off him. Having played Neutopia and Dungeon explorer , it was a little hard to listen to them shit on them, especially since I really think that they were both really good games. Neutopia was a good parallel to Zelda, but had more story(Beyond what's in the manual) and Dungeon explorer was interesting because there was more characters than Gauntlet ever had and again, more story. I am a little disappointed that it doesn't have Legendary axe, I've seen more than a couple channels list Legendary axe among the creme of the crop, for the HU card games. The game JJ and Jeff is a bit of an odd one, it's based off of some Japanese TV show(I think) so a lot of the game is going to fall flat for non-Japanese players.
Disagree about Bomberman. It’s a Hudson Soft game and was more at home on Turbografx than others.
It's just their opinions, of course. But it's my opinion that their opinions are stupid.
So wrong about Dungeon Explorer. Gauntlet + RPG elements. it's amazing.

lordxmugen Sorry but have to disagree with you.
The original Japanese PC Engine was more mini than this TurboGrafx-16 Mini. I can't wait to see a min of that!
it already exists, its only slightly smaller than the original, kinda ironic
Awesome treat for this evening to watch this, I love Ryan he’s just so likable.
Mike "I own that, its one of my rarest games" Matei
I love River City Ransom on the Turbografx 16. For me, it has the most catchiest Double Twins theme.
It start sweet and adorable, and then the guitar kicks in!
Awesome, I never knew there was a Turbografx version of it
@@RBIBaseball76 Japanese exclusive on CD with arranged soundtrack.

Still lacks Legendary Axe 1 and 2
Don't forget about Legend of Valkyrie, Parasol Stars, and Jaseiken Necromancer.
and Bonk
I didn't know Ghouls & Ghosts was on there. I thought it wouldn't be because its Super Grafx.
I hated the passcode system on neutopia, so many times I had to start and stop the game only to have the code wrong and have to start from scratch
@@AlecMeyer94 I'll give you Parasol Stars :p
There is a secret command to play the "arcade" versions of Fantasy Zone, R-Type and Gradius on the Turbografx mini by just holding the Select button while booting the games.
yes yes i was looking to see if any1 else knew about the hidden games
I’m pretty sure MetalJesusRocks covered this on his video.
Ive always wanted to get a TurboGrafx but i've never even seen one in person in my life. This is the most plausable way I see for me getting Rondo of Blood and Splatterhouse so just for that this thing would be totally worth it for me.
You can play Rondo of Blood on the Castlevania: Requiem collection on PS4. Much easier
I've never seen one in person either
@@brianmcdonald7017 The box had a handle on it.
my cousin had one growing up. Has some really solid games on it. Wish I had one
For those of us who don’t have any modern consoles, and don’t have the money for the kind of collecting that comes with pc engine/tg-16 this is a cool facsimile.
Thought this mini was delayed. Preordeded one off amazon and there still isn’t a release date
Scott Swank I ordered from amazon japan and cancelled my original preorder
Damn, being in quarantine actually makes me glad to see Ryan! Sorry for what I said about you in the past Ryan, you're a legend 😎
You can't suck up to him, he's not not giving you a heart
For me the biggest let down is not having Bloody Wolf. I played the shiiiiiiiiiii out of that. It's outstanding. Oh and crater maze was also tons of fun.
My buddy got a TurboGraphx, and we played the hell out of Bloody Wolf. Great game, even when I accidentally reset it. :P
I remember AVGN said the turbo Graphic 16 was The one nobody gave a s*** about lol
He should have said, "no one cared about it where I lived." My family were big Turbo fans.
Lol ok BigSnipp I’m sure your family can cover an entire state in the U.S

I had this console and man the memories...I remember it was very expensive and it took my parents, grandparents and my uncle to get this for Christmas..so it will be nice to get myself one for this Christmas. Amazon has it post for a December 2020 release.
Not translating the PC Engine titles was such a stupid move. That wouldve made it a must buy.
it would have been a great move but I don't think Konami thought it's worth the investment to do that
@@Protoman85 Or if they're clever, they'll pull an SNK and release another version with translations. I have much doubt that they're clever though.
Love this system. Underrated for sure
It is but you can order it off Amazon Japan
You are abso-fucking-lutely wrong to complain about Dungeon Explorer. It is a great game, a blast with friends and the music is amazing.
Exactly. The review was not really good and the tg16 mini has the best game selection after the SNES mini.
But they said at the end it was worth it?
Dude, even happyconsole gamer said one game was unplayable due to lag. I watched Electronic playgrounds too. It definitely has a least a few issues people should understand.
I had a couple minor complaints. Mostly that bonk 3 and magical chase should have been on there, since you cant play them otherwise really.
Back, when I was in middle school, I had the original Turbo-Graphic 16 & other teenages would visit my dilapidated domicile just to play the game system because no one else had one
My middle school friends would want to come over and play TV Sports Football on my TurboGrafx-16 all the time…
Delapidated domicile 😂
I'm glad. As your talking about the games you showed game play and main screen of the game big thank yous!!
Hmm. The R-Type on this system was pure joy. Ninja Spirits is an underrated gem. But yes, the exclusion of Legendary Axe is a head scratcher. If one can find the translated texts for the japanese games, then this is a must buy
"J.J. & Jeff" is named "Katochan Kenchan" in Japan and it is based on 2 comedians very popular there, Cha Katou and Ken Shimura (who recently died because of the virus, rip...)
The name of the game and the look of the characters were changed for the western audience because those 2 comedians are not very famous outside of Japan and some asian countries.
I think the whole point of the game is to be like a giant joke, kind of the Penn & Teller game that AVGN made a video about it.
I’m glad someone mentioned that cause I was sure about to myself. Thanks 😊
The reason China Warrior and some of those other weird games were on there is because they were cinsidered big classics for the PC Engine.
You understand.
My neighbor had one back in the 90s. Loved it.
Sorry guys, you're really out of touch for the most part.
Who's not out of touch when it comes to the turbografx
@@DSan-kl2yc Happy Console Gamer
PC Engine being mostly about Shoot em Ups I was like wat, I remember it mainly for RPG games
@@DeathmanElf Not sure about PC engine but TG16 had like no RPGs. SNES is about RPGs.
A lot of people dislike any video with Ryan. I like Ryan's comments he sounds excited about every topic he talks about. He's not the best orator but he sounds like that friend you had who was really into games and it perfectly fits the vibe of this series.
3:16 it’s the guy who becomes propellor slaw in Raiders of the lost ark!
Pat Roach?
Review aside, I respect the effort in having a wide-shot with a real video call while Mike records his side with a real camera and then green-screening out the iPad for the close-up to cut in the clean feed and still synching it to the wide.
Nice.
22:35 Me ( Doing my best impersonation of Boomstick from Death Battle ) : Hold on everybody, I'm ... getting a premonition. He's going to say "You should play Zelda!"
Everyone : ... ...
The fact that the entire collection of games in the package is rated "M?"
WHAT???
I'd love a new model tv made for retro gaming, CRT, but as light and thin as possible, and mini consoles with those analog connections, although I guess maybe it's still not the same, if it's not the old console itself, but than still, I'd want a new retro TV thing in any case
I was thinking the same thing. I wouldn't care if it's a bit pricey, but having a top of the line CRT made for gaming would be great.
I really want one!
Anybody else ever play Military Madness? Such a great game, a bit difficult too.
Loved military madness such an underrated gem!
That's my favorite game of all time.
I spent many a late night...one of the best games on the system...probably started my love of tactic games
I preordered a long time ago and still waiting to find out when it will be released since COVID-19. I wasn’t lucky enough to own or know someone who owned one. I am excited.
Ryan hairstyle looks amazing!
I *loved* Moto Roader! My mom used to live in a party house when I was a teenager and I often brought my TG16 with the multi-controller hub when I went over to visit. Playing 5-player MR matches were some of the fondest gaming memories I have.
Wished they would've add a translated version of Snatcher.

Nintendo Switch?
Harsh review. I love mine so much I bought all
3 iterations.
Ys!
I'm in the same boat. I bought all 3 versions and would jump on a mini-duo in a second.
@@secretysecret1551 SUPER GRAFX mini FTW!
One game I played the hell out of back in the day was “Parasol Stars”. Loved that game...
honestly i found this to be a very useful review, thank you guys.
Thank you for reviewing the console!
As much as I want one since I never had a TG-16 growing up, at $100, they could have thrown in a power adapter. Come on, Konami.
DeathToTheDictators If I had to pick a power brick or second controller, I’d definitely take the latter.
What do you get for a 100 dollars in this day and age?
the problem with society is we all want top of the line Shit but wont rub two fucking nickels together to buy anything.
That's it, I'm calling Reggie.
I ordered one just for castlevania. Great bonus that it should have a handful of other fun games!
I still remember back in 1992, a bunch of TurboGrafx-16 systems were popping at garage sales for $10 to $20. I regret not buying one back then.
I traded my TG for a Koss portable CD player, not a bad trade at the time, but horrible in the long term.
So much misinformation, and I know you know better.
Bonk 3 is one of my favorite games and it's 2 player co-op.
