Hi, i am super new to this and just bought a oled switch for my son, watching a bunch of videos trying to figure out "how to", just wondering if i have to install a chip like i read in other forums? Thank you your video is awesome and i had to subscribe!
So you now have to use a computer to boot your switch every time it is shutdown or rebooted in order to inject hekate. That's a bit of a pain. Thanks for showing the process from the beginning and how it works.
Actually you can use your phone with a usb-c cable. There's payload injector apps for android and iOS. Or you can buy a RCM injector tool. So it can be done without a computer. I try to keep the switch on sleep rather than shutdown so I don't need to inject frequently.
@@GrownUpGamingGUG thank you for the options! Knew about the basic rcm jig, but didn't know about the injector. If I can have one of those in my case when I travel then I don't have to worry about rebooting thoughtlessly. I don't always have C to C cables with me as some of my older chargers are still type A to C.
I prefer c-c cable, just put one in the switch carrying case. I had a RCM injector back from sxos era, they require power so you have to charge it from time to time and obviously when you want to boot up the switch it is always out of power.
I have a unpatched switch and was wondering after the step by step is done can I update my console in stock mode or leave it un updated and will I still be able to play online
Their website has been down for some time now. There's alternative apps like goldleaf or you can try harder to find tinfoil (nothing is really taken off the internet 😉)
Thanks for this very good tutorial, i love your tutorials, they are simple explained, that is what i love. I get my switch with a mod chip, i think it will works the same as with the RCM ? THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT VIDEOS
I've put hours trying to figure out what's wrong with my switch not installing games or apps, and turns out it's the sigpatches that you mentioned, so I'm very grateful.
Thanks for doing this i had some issues tho cuz i was doing it with an rcm loader but i fixed it but i still have a question. if you go in launch you have 4 options right like stock and fusee but what are the other 2 for?
I think some people may have use for different launch options. For me, I just use stock sysnand for online play, and cfw fusee emunand for other stuff.
File based is easier to backup and transfer to another SD card if needed. People were afraid Nintendo can see the contents of the SD card if it were file based and ban you but I've not been banned. Also some say partition is faster than file based, but I don't feel any difference.
If it's patched, doesn't matter the firmware, you still need a mod chip. If it's an unpatched switch, even if you updated to the latest firmware it's still moddable.
Any proof of this? I prefer SD file as it's easy to backup. So even if I get a corruption (which I've never had before and I've been using it for a long time and swapping out games frequently), it's very simple to just restore it.
You know, I'm planning on getting another Switch (basically the OLED), alongside my unpatched Switch I got from Christmas 2018, so I can transfer all my unpatched Switch datas to the Switch OLED, and delete my main user with my account from my unpatched one, just to be extra 100% safe. But with this video, I'm thinking about it, since I bought an RCM jig, but I don't have a PC, so I'll have to use my Android phone and order a USB OTG (C-Cable). Just have to be extremely careful not to get my Nintendo account ban. -.-
@@GrownUpGamingGUG Thanks, but gotta need more than luck, because I'm afraid I'll accidentally brick my Switch or instantly get banned lol. 🤣 Also, today's my birthday! 🎊😊🎉
I’m completely new to modding, so I have a few questions: How can I get new game releases if I can’t access the Nintendo eShop? Can I transfer data from an old switch to the modded switch? If so, should I transfer the data before or after modding the switch? How often would you have to update the software to do this? Is it every time Nintendo updates its firmware? Do you update the software before updating the firmware? Do you to download the software over again like you did in the video for every update or is there an easier way to update the software?
You can access the eshop with you stock sysnand. Make sure you don't do any weird things on stock sysnand as you will be banned if it detects any modification. Do you your game backups, saves transferring, modding on emunand. you don't have to update firmware everytime a new version comes out and if you do update, check atmosphere and Hekate supports the new firmware version you are updating to. It's quite simple, just copy over the latest atmosphere, Hekate, sigpatches and firmware files to your SD card and then use daybreak app to update ua-cam.com/video/_IFdTLQaCpI/v-deo.htmlsi=KD9z_Oncg7ugJQzi
@@GrownUpGamingGUG I see. Thank you so much. It just that it took me a lot of time to find an unpatched switch and it would have been a waste of time and money if I got myself banned and the switch bricked. I read somewhere that you can “switch” between a normal switch and the modded switch with the emunand and the sysnand. Do you know any guides on how to do that? Also, I am so sorry for the late reply. I just got the notification today. Thank you for taking the time to respond and answer my questions.
A quick question, what’s the difference between sysnand and stock launcher (looks to me that they boot the same thing), and what’s the difference between emunand and atmosphere?
Per my understanding, sysnand is the place where the original firmware is located, you can boot into custom firmware with this location but it's not recommended as it leaves a trace that you've tempered with it and if you go online afterwards you could get banned. Emunand is like a virtual machine separate from sysnand so you can boot into custom firmware here and do all the mods and play backups here safely. atmosphere is the name of the custom firmware. Stock firmware is the original firmware otherwise known as horizon os.
When I start Atmosphere, the screen goes black and stays that way. Even if you use hekate, it will still work. How can I fix it? Atmosphère ver1.7.1 switch ver18.0.0 Can anyone help me?
this may be a very noob question but if i replace the sd card currently in my switch now with a new one and follow the steps in the video is the jailbreak stored on the sd card. like if i put my old sd card back in will it just be a stock switch again?
The cfw is stored on SD but the jailbreak is done by going into RCM and injecting payload. If you just want to go to stock then you just have to boot normally without going into RCM.
You keep saying that patience is the key. At around 20:17 you keep complaining that downloading is too slow. You're contradicting yourself. Next time, rehearse your instructions first so it won't confuse some of us viewers given how complicated this process is.
Thanks for the criticism. I do like the flow of my videos and the patience is key phrase is something I say to remind myself as I'm not always patient myself. Like a priest will tell you not to sin but he will occasionally sin too right? Is that contradicting himself? And your last statement "next time rehearse yourself..." sounds really demanding like you're paying for my tutorial and I have to meet your expectations? If you phrased it like a suggestion or comment I would be happier. It sounded disrespectful honestly.
Great tutorial. I have got to a point in the video that I cannot go any further, I am guessing this is because I made the switch firmware update to 18.01 prior to my jailbreak attempt. I get to 25:25 and select the CFW ( emuMMC) icon but then does not load and kicks me back home page without launching. I launched the fuse payload and I was able to get home page on switch/ from there when i clicked on the album I received an error message and could reboot. if anyone has any tips please let me know. Recommend doing an update video when there is an update to atmosphere.
make sure atmosphere, hekate, payloads and sigpatches are all updated to the latest. i'd recommend doing the whole process from scratch with the latest update of everything.
nice vid, just to know, is there any way to play online on the emmu mode? i have the nintendo server blocked, but in any pirate server, or even on a ryujinx online (not LAN) with my switch? i mean, for expample i have pokemon scarlet installed by nsp on the switch, and i want to play the raids with people even if they are from emulator, could it be?
Can you tell me if I want to pursue downloading my digital games to my pc, I would need to have them already downloaded to the sd card before adding custom firmware, right? So how do I keep them on my sd card if I have to format the card to get this to work? Just fuzzy about the order of things. Or, do the games have to be downloaded to the internal storage first and only internal storage?

hi got switch playing "borrowed games" lol. Question can i keep it in sleep mode or do i have to always put it into rcm mode before i can use it. Thanks
You can keep it in sleep mode. But if it restarts, if you have AutoRCM on, then you need to inject payload, or if you don't have AutoRCM on, then you need to use the jig and hold vol+ and power on to put the switch in RCM and then inject payload.
Im hoping to do this in a week or so after my Switch SD slot reader part comes in (broke a while back). I do have a few questions: My system firmware is on the latest version 18.0.1, is it still safe to homebrew on latest version? Should I remove my Nintendo account from the Switch, do a factory reset and create like a temp account? I’m kinda worried about accidentally banning my account by mistake since I have a lot of digital purchases that my kids play on their switches. Don’t want to lose those in a ban. As I mentioned, I have 2 kids that play Switches (a lite and a newer patched Switch), but one of them prefers to use the unpatched Switch that I’m working to homebrew. How childproof is the CFW? Could they accidentally brick the Switch if they push any wrong options or buttons? I’m guessing it would be difficult, I also have a homebrewed 3DS and they play it on it since going in the internals of the CFW require button combinations.
I think it's a good idea to factory reset it and then do the jailbreak and backup. If you setup the 90dns correctly the switch will not connect to Nintendo servers so it's pretty safe.
I really appreciate all of your help. One more question. I have switched back to stock firmware, downloaded new games to the internal storage from Nintendo server, but when switching back to cfw/emunand it says the internal storage is empty?
The emunand is like a ghost copy of the stock os system. Even if you installed the games to the sd and not the system, i believe the os still needs a "ticket" showing that the game was installed. There is an option in tinfoil to install the tickets, but i think that only works if it is available in the backup of the games or the emunand was created AFTER you installed the new games. Going online while running emunand can get you banned. My concern is the "no ban" claim. If i remember right, nintendo scans the sd card contents while connected to nintendo servers. Just having these files on sd can result in a ban. I reccommended separate sd cards and using the create partition method instead of the file method in hekate when making the emunand. Switching sd cards is annoying, and you'll need an otg injector, but much less likely to get banned. Look online for otg injectors, but i prefer using an android device (cell phone already on me) and a short usbc-usbc pd cable. There are a few more steps recommended, like dumping the joycon data. I reccommended watching several "demonstration" videos.
When you create the emunand, it creates a copy of the sysnand at that moment. So your emunand is just reflective of the old sysnand+whatever you did on the emunand.
Hello! Question! Is there a way to make the Switch boot up by simply holding the power button like normal? I noticed that I have to plug it into my computer every time I want to turn it on.
no that i know of. you can set it to auto RCM which means the switch boots into recovery mode every time you press the power button but you still need to inject payload when the switch is in this mode. you don't have to plug it into a computer to inject payload, you can use a phone or buy a rcm jig.
Mine has been like that for a long time and the good thing is you don’t need a jig I just connected my rc loader and it’s boots the bad side is when the battery has Completely drained it’s takes hours to get a little Percentage of battery once I boot Atmosphere everything goes back to normal
If you power off the switch you need to inject payload. If you sleep the switch it doesn't. You can inject payload with a phone though as there are payload injector apps for android and iOS.
TYSM, great video! I'm stuck at 25:25 though. When I choose CFW (emuMMC) the Hekate screen loads but then black screen and my switch disconnects from the PC. You know what the issue is?
Once you boot into Hekate you should disconnect from pc anyway. Have you tried launching with fusee.bin payload? Maybe the Hekate launch with emummc cfw script is incorrect.
Maybe your atmosphere files are bad? Just make sure atmosphere, Hekate, payloads and sigpatches are good and in correct location really, I suggest downloading them again.
Everything works fine but I can't boot into anything except Fuse. When I try to return to Stock/OFW I just get an black screen error saying "unknown pkg1 version HOS version not supported"
did you add the hekate_ipl.ini code in the description? worst case you can always go back to stock firmware by disabling autoRCM and just boot the switch normally.
I got stuck on hos panic occured code 06, did the same steps over and over again from the beginning but the result is still the same, could anyone help me with this please 🙏🏻
When I’m injecting the file and I’ve made sure it is the correct file. The Nintendo switch doesn’t turn on. It turns on if I press the on button but it doesn’t load up hekate
When I try to run the NUT server on my PC, it says "could not get title id" from the atmosphere folders. Is there a step I missed? I didn't see him configure anything like this.
hey man followed your guide everything works besides from when I try to backup up my emummc any tips on how to fix it, it says failed to find partition
question real quick if you don't have nintendo online is there a way to play online or do i have to pay nintendo online and if you cant do without paying nintendo online can you play games you downloaded with the tinfoil app on the sysnand
You can't even get on Nintendo servers with cfw without risking a ban so no, you cannot go play on Nintendo servers without paying for nso. If you play backups on sysnand you risk getting banned whenever you go to Nintendo servers again.
Thank you for the video. It got my V1 NS patched and going. Tinfoil was a pain (it wouldn’t connect to my drive over my Internet, but USB worked fine). One question though: If I power my Switch down, to power it back up I need to connect to my PC and inject the payload. Is that normal? Why won’t my Switch just power up automatically into Atmosphere or the Stock if it’s powered down?
If you have AutoRCM, the switch will power on in RCM. At that state, you need to inject a payload for it to boot. You can do this with a phone with usb-c. If you want to power on into stock, turn of AutoRCM. But if you want to boot back into custom firmware, you need to use the jig and slide into the right joy-con and hold vol+ while power on and you still need to inject payload.
@@GrownUpGamingGUG Ahh that makes a bit more sense. Its just if the kids have it. They tend to drain the battery dry if they are out and about, so I’ll switch to stock with AutoRCM off in those instances. Again, thanks for the help. You not only made the process simple, you were also funny (you forgetting that you changed your WiFi password had me laughing)
You only need the jig the first time to get the switch into RCM. Afterwards, you can set AutoRCM in Hekate which puts the switch in RCM automatically every time you boot up the switch. So yes you can use your right joy-con.
I have a few questions to ask because I'm debating if I want to mod my main V1 switch since the rumored switch 2 is coming out later this year: 1. Would I be safe to play online games like splatoon 3 and visit the eshop if I am on stock mode? 2. I have two Nintendo accounts linked to my switch - my main one and a JP one I don't use- would I be safe to play roms on EmuNAND with one of them or do I have to make a new one so I don't get detected by Nintendo? 3. When you download Arms on the EmuNAND side and switch to stock, it disappeared so I'm wondering will the roms not show up on stock mode for online friends or Nintendo to see if they look at my account? Great job on the tutorial, really easy to follow and understand 👍 I know that you can block the Nintendo networks to be more safer but as my second time modding a console, I don't wanna take a chance getting banned.
there's always a risk. you have to know that. 1. if you sysnand is clean, it should be safe to play onine and visit the eshop. 2. don't link Nintendo Accounts on emunand!! what are you thinking? 3. what i install in emunand stays on emunand, that's the purpose. if it showed up in sysnand, that means i messed up. hope it helps!
If you shutdown, and you want to boot into cfw then you need to inject payload. You can plug into computer or use phone with usb-c cable or you can buy a RCM injector.
@@GrownUpGamingGUG Is there any specific way that I need to switch between Emunand and Synsnad? One video said just turning the console off would be enough?
depends on how you setup your switch. if you have autorcm, you would select what to boot with hekate when you inject the payload. if you don't have autorcm on, then when you restart the switch it would launch into sysnand HOS.

All the files are just on the SD card really. Just disable autoRCM in Hekate and just boot normally and you will boot into stock os. Then you can format the SD card in stock os.
I've never used that tool as I've never felt the need. github.com/StarDustCFW/Haku33 there's a part near the bottom of the page regarding "known bugs black screen after 17.0.0" and there is 3 possible solutions you might want to try.

Thank you, you are awesome!
Hey mate, my sd card doesn't format, what could be the issue?
Yes that happens to me with that app sometimes too. I just format it with windows and then go back to the app to format fat32.
@@GrownUpGamingGUGOK cool, it got fixed! But how do i connect to filezilla, i don't know where to find my host or username
When you launch the FTP app on switch, all the info you need is on the screen.
nice video
Thanks! 😊
@@GrownUpGamingGUG good to know. Thanks!
I have a unpatched switch and was wondering after the step by step is done can I update my console in stock mode or leave it un updated and will I still be able to play online
You can update the stock firmware for online play.
90dns setter isn't working for me. Nintendo remains unblocked even after rebooting to apply settings
try manually setting it on internet settings and setting the dns.
The tinfoil link doesn’t work please if you have another link halp
Their website has been down for some time now. There's alternative apps like goldleaf or you can try harder to find tinfoil (nothing is really taken off the internet 😉)
Thanks for this very good tutorial, i love your tutorials, they are simple explained, that is what i love.
I get my switch with a mod chip, i think it will works the same as with the RCM ?
THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT VIDEOS
Thanks for the comment! If you have a mod chip then you don't need to do the first part with the jig to go into RCM.

I've put hours trying to figure out what's wrong with my switch not installing games or apps, and turns out it's the sigpatches that you mentioned, so I'm very grateful.
Glad it helped!

Yes, if you have a mod chip then you don't need to do the first steps to go into RCM.
@@GrownUpGamingGUG Ok thanks i think i dont use my switch online so i will modchip
Yes, it's either mod chip or no cfw for oled switches 😂

Ok you got me
Thanks for doing this i had some issues tho cuz i was doing it with an rcm loader but i fixed it but i still have a question. if you go in launch you have 4 options right like stock and fusee but what are the other 2 for?
I think some people may have use for different launch options. For me, I just use stock sysnand for online play, and cfw fusee emunand for other stuff.
why was everyone making a partition if the emu works on your sd card
File based is easier to backup and transfer to another SD card if needed. People were afraid Nintendo can see the contents of the SD card if it were file based and ban you but I've not been banned. Also some say partition is faster than file based, but I don't feel any difference.
Very chaotic video, full of errors. Maybe cut them out next time? Thank you anyway.
Noted!
What do you mean by errors?
Ugh! I have a switch that’s patched but it’s firmware version out of the box is 2.3.0!! Oof if 3 was a 2 I could’ve maybe modded it!!
If it's patched, doesn't matter the firmware, you still need a mod chip. If it's an unpatched switch, even if you updated to the latest firmware it's still moddable.
Don’t do SD file, SD partition is the better choice for less corruption.
Any proof of this? I prefer SD file as it's easy to backup. So even if I get a corruption (which I've never had before and I've been using it for a long time and swapping out games frequently), it's very simple to just restore it.
@@GrownUpGamingGUG going off of what Sthetix suggested and said.

Can I play online again when my switch is already banned?
No right? Probably no chance
If you're banned you can't play online or go to the online store.
What I do is setup a light theme to the normal Switch OS, and I setup the dark theme for the Atmosphere OS. So that way I know on which OS I am.
That's a good method! Thanks for the tip!
I don’t get it, do you have to inject the payload every single time you reboot?
Yes, that's why I keep the switch in sleep mode rather than turning it off.
I’m completely new to modding, so I have a few questions:
How can I get new game releases if I can’t access the Nintendo eShop?

I see.

Stock firmware is the original firmware otherwise known as horizon os.
hi im really sorry if this is a dumb question but we can only play official games ? like cartridge, not games installed by tinfoil right ?
you can install your backups with tinfoil.
It’s not working:( we get this error message after we want to start the CFW: unknown pkg1 version. HOS version not supported or emummc corrupt!
Make sure the atmosphere, Hekate and payload files are updated and correct.
When I start Atmosphere, the screen goes black and stays that way.
Even if you use hekate, it will still work.
How can I fix it?

this may be a very noob question but if i replace the sd card currently in my switch now with a new one and follow the steps in the video is the jailbreak stored on the sd card. like if i put my old sd card back in will it just be a stock switch again?
It sounded disrespectful honestly.
when i press the power button while holding the volume up it turns on
Then you are not in RCM. Did you put the jig in?

Yes, you need to pay membership to play online for the Nintendo Switch.
Everytime I try to run tinfoil installer, a message saying "corrupt data has been detected" appears. Also, I've already manually installed sigpatches
Most likely your sigpatches aren't correct. Try getting from another source and make sure it matches your current firmware.

hi got switch playing "borrowed games" lol.
I do have a few questions:
My system firmware is on the latest version 18.0.1, is it still safe to homebrew on latest version?
And yes 18.0.1 firmware is fine.
I really appreciate all of your help. One more question. I have switched back to stock firmware, downloaded new games to the internal storage from Nintendo server, but when switching back to cfw/emunand it says the internal storage is empty?
is the sd card full?
Ok. Thanks. I'll just use sleep mode then. This is still pretty cool though.@@GrownUpGamingGUG

Do you always have to inject payload to play on switch or can you turn it off after your done?
If you power off the switch you need to inject payload. If you sleep the switch it doesn't. You can inject payload with a phone though as there are payload injector apps for android and iOS.

They tend to drain the battery dry if they are out and about, so I’ll switch to stock with AutoRCM off in those instances.

i know it might be a dumb question, but can i play with the right controller again or do i need to always have the jig
You only need the jig the first time to get the switch into RCM. Afterwards, you can set AutoRCM in Hekate which puts the switch in RCM automatically every time you boot up the switch. So yes you can use your right joy-con.
I have a few questions to ask because I'm debating if I want to mod my main V1 switch since the rumored switch 2 is coming out later this year:
