Those are chips, those are SMD Capacitors. You should have used a little more flux on when soldering to the capacitors. It would have made it a little easier instead of trying to drag the solder to the pad. Also, your method can create a cold solder joint. Please clean your tip regularly. Quick question about this install, does the FW need to be flashed first or does it come pre-installed? I bought one and the FW was not present on it, won't light the led when connected to PC, and generally shows no signs of life. When I installed it, I metered all points, and all looks good, but when it turns on, it just boots to stock FW, and runs fine, but no HB. Just wondering if I needed to flash it, or if my chip is just dead.

Preparing to do this soon, do you reckon the "HANDSKIT Soldering Iron" would be alright? It's 60W, and has a temperature knob. Also come with a 0.2mm tip.
If you are competent then yes, I've only just a bought "decent" soldering iron, always used cheap ones off amazon
Hey, loved the video I actually just ordered the chip myself I have a quick question are you able to tell me every tool you used for this?
Small Philips screwdriver, tri wing screwdriver, soldering iron, flux, think that's about it!

Great video man, how hard would you say this is to do? I only have a bit of soldering experience
Bit of practice beforehand and you should be ok, the caps are small but if you can zoom in with a camera it really is pretty simple!
I had no idea this mod was so easy.. I never looked into anything other than oled and lite and those (especially the lite) are super gnarly compared to this!! This mod is pretty easy the only warning I can give you is if you mess up the soldering on the capacitors under the GPU you sometimes Can get away without the little 0201 cap and the switch will keep working, you’ve just gotta do some stability testing after so if you do knock one of the caps off and loose it OR don’t have a fine tip soldering iron/heat station you might be able to just solder without the cap in
i did picofly without microscope and im amateur first ever chip and done it ;d this thing on video is so easy you can do it for sure
Can this same mod be done with a Lite?
@@devinsidell yes just need the correct chip as the cables slightly vary.
@fixingmoddingbuilding I must ask this. wouldn't it have been easier to just feed the modchip through the fan hole of the shield and put tape there to hold it? cutting the shielding makes no sense to me

Just search rp2040, they keep getting removed so just check each day

Hello my friend, I wonder if this one works in oled switch? I bought a new oled some weeks ago and I want to try a chip, could you please let me know it? thanks
This chip doesn't, there is a lot more work that needs going into an oled install.
If you look in the top pinned comment you will see a link to my video installing an oled chip.
nice guide sir
thanks
What about the software in the chip?
Is it something on it already or do you have to install/transfer something to it?
Some come pre installed, others need it adding

ok I have a new problem, I turn on the consol and the LED flashes blue for like 2 minutes, then holds white for maybe 5-10 seconds then goes back to flashing blue for another 2 or so minutes, then it flashes red for half a second and turns off. Any help?

I dont get it. Why they did it the way that the nand chip will go on the other place?

If the mod is done, what can it be used for? Are all the games available? Can I change the aesthetics of the main screen? Great video btw

Hey great video would this work on the v2 switch as well is there anything different i need to do to the v2? and i have my ns on firmware 17 would this work? and do you use non clean flux?

Modchip will work on not software moddable switches like on the oled compared to the og switch right?
Or do i also need a specific firmware version on the oled to be able to modchip it
So this will make any switch moddable?
I have a 2019 lcd model (patched) that i want to grab save files off of, would this allow for that?
Yes will work on any v1 /v2
I thought all day one versions were immune to patches, and can be modded whenever

what happend to the abcd wires? was that method removed here? or is that only on the switch lite hwfly?

Quick question about this install, does the FW need to be flashed first or does it come pre-installed? I bought one and the FW was not present on it, won't light the led when connected to PC, and generally shows no signs of life.
When I installed it, I metered all points, and all looks good, but when it turns on, it just boots to stock FW, and runs fine, but no HB. Just wondering if I needed to flash it, or if my chip is just dead.
The ones I have bought have all come with software installed, however a few people have mentioned they have ones that haven't so would need flashing
Did you figure your issue out? I'm having the same problem.
@@fixingmoddingbuildingI would like to buy the chip too, but what should I do if it doesn't have the firmware pre-installed?
What tin did you use? It seemed to flow really bad… was it like 99,5sn 0,5 cu?
What is the USB C ribbon cable for? Also what is the v2 cable and the v1's difference.
It is if you need to re-flash it. The cable differences are dependant on the orientation of the various on the processor on the switch.
Can you show how did you install the firmware?

Hi, i've seen this video and i've decided to modify my switch. I have a v1 patched. Is it the same model in this video? Would i do everything like in the video?
Yes it should be the same! the only difference between v1/v2 is the which angle the small caps lay which you solder to but even than it wouldn't make it drastically different to this video!
