Thank you very much! This is such a brilliant and humbling insight: the observer and the observed arise together, as one seamless movement of reality. There is no world “out there” independent of the mind that perceives it, just as there is no separate self apart from the world it observes. Your analogy of the dream captures this perfectly-Consciousness simultaneously appears as the dreamed world and as the dreamer who walks through it. Thank you, Rupert, for pointing so clearly to this truth.

Yes , pointing to the dream experience was illuminating. Building further on it, just as one has heard of lucid dreaming bringing an unidentified being while dreaming , is there an analogous state in our awake, normal hours in which one palpably experiences the waking occurrences as dream like ? If so, how does the switch occur ?

    • @ArashZaghi
      @ArashZaghi День тому +4

@@Insaan0457 What a beautiful question. What you’re describing is, in fact, awakening or realization. It’s the recognition that, just as in a dream, the dreamer and the dreamed arise together, so too do the observer and the observed in waking life. When this is realized, waking occurrences are seen as unfolding within awareness, just like a dream unfolds within the mind. In traditions, this recognition is what defines an “awakened person”-one who no longer sees the world as separate from themselves but as an inseparable expression of the same Being.

From the perspective of a critique of Rupert Spira’s recent shift toward Ajatavada, the question raised -whether the infinite needing to localize itself to experience itself is inherently limiting-touches a key weakness in this line of teaching.
Ajatavada’s claim that all appearances are illusions, with only the infinite being real, creates a significant paradox. It suggests that the infinite “needs” to appear as localized or fragmented in order to experience itself. But if the infinite is truly infinite, as the question rightly points out, why would it need any such process? Wouldn’t the infinite already contain the knowledge and experience of all possibilities within itself? The need for localization introduces a limitation that contradicts the very nature of the infinite.
    The Flaw in Ajatavada’s Logic
Ajatavada denies the reality of forms while simultaneously relying on the existence of forms to convey its teachings. Spira’s analogy that consciousness must “dream” to experience itself creates a paradox. If the dream is not real, why does the infinite bother with it at all? This implies a gap or a lack within the infinite-a notion that directly undermines its all-encompassing and perfect nature.
Our perspective, rooted in Islamic Irfan and metaphysical clarity, resolves this paradox by recognizing that the apparent forms (the “localization” the question refers to) are not separate from the infinite but are expressions of it. These forms are not “illusions” in the sense of being unreal but are reflections, manifestations, or modes through which the infinite reveals itself. This understanding preserves the infinite’s perfection while affirming the sacredness of its manifestations.
    The Iceberg and Ocean Analogy
To clarify, consider the analogy of the iceberg and the ocean. The iceberg doesn’t exist independently of the ocean; it’s made entirely of water. However, its distinct form arises due to specific conditions. Ajatavada might call the iceberg an “illusion,” but this denies the sacred interplay between form and essence. While the iceberg doesn’t have independent existence, it’s not a falsehood either-it’s the ocean expressing itself in a specific way.
From this perspective, the infinite doesn’t need to “localize” to experience itself; it already encompasses all possibilities. Localization isn’t a limitation but an expression of the infinite’s boundless creativity. Ajatavada’s dismissal of forms as illusory overlooks the profound truth that forms are reflections of the infinite’s attributes and actions (Asma wa Sifat).
    A More Coherent Perspective
To the questioner and Spira’s followers: The infinite doesn’t localize itself because it lacks something or needs to know itself-it localizes, or manifests, as an act of its inherent nature. The infinite reveals itself through forms not out of necessity but as an overflowing of its essence. This revelation doesn’t diminish the infinite; it magnifies its boundless beauty and wisdom.
Ajatavada, in its radical negation, strips the world of meaning and denies the sacredness of the journey. But true realization doesn’t come from dismissing forms as illusions-it comes from seeing the infinite in every form, understanding that the wave is not separate from the ocean and the iceberg is not other than water. This is where Rupert’s recent teachings fall short, while Islamic Irfan offers a more profound, holistic, and coherent approach.

Brilliant response. One thing that I notice about almost all questions in these kinds is forums is that the questioner is desperate to fit the universe to the limitations of their beliefs and desires. Mr.Spira is very kind in his response. I'm sure he's heard this question a thousand times. How do you explain the limitlessness of infinite imagination and states of being to one who has no imagination and doesn't even understand themselves? They come to be told what to know rather than the desire to truly learn through exploration of their own thoughts and perceptions.

We try so much to understand being (infinite consciousness), and seem to leave the idea of what it's doing alone, as if we cannot ever know any more in our finite form. I wish we could know more about how infinite being perceives its dreams, what it is seeking, it's understanding and it's way. The desire to connect with consciousness leads me to experience, that awareness means "I am", though in being "I am" also flows in a direction that takes you along with it (even without further perception or thought). The direction is toward being part of everything, therefore "I am" is also "I am searching". Being isn't love alone all by itself, perhaps it may be searching to appreciate love all together. Thank you Rupert.

It is for precisely this reason (namely, that Reality has no experiential standpoint of its own) that I can't see any point in using words like "consciousness", "awareness", or "pure knowing" as synonymous with Reality Itself.
As I see it, Reality is nothing but Flux.
As such, there is a perpetual effervescence of fluctuations at various degrees of coordination.
Awareness is what naturally occurs at the ontological core of the highly coordinated fluctuations (i.e. untethered organisms with a central nervous system) that we are.

I love these teachings. I would challenge the belief that the “infinite” can’t see itself. The eye seeing itself. Coming to that conclusion is using the finite mind’s understanding of the infinite. We don’t know the modes of perception/knowing/self-experiencing of the infinite. It is certainly possible the infinite is an eye that sees itself. I’m just speculating.

Spira’s evolving teachings reflect a significant philosophical shift. He once suggested that “there is no world out there,” emphasizing that while everything is an illusion, it is still real-just not as it appears. This nuanced perspective acknowledged the world as a manifestation of consciousness, veiled in form but inseparably connected to it. It maintained a balance, affirming both the hidden reality and its appearance.
Recently, however, Spira seems to be moving toward Ajatavada-a radical doctrine of total negation. This perspective suggests that there is nothing “there” but consciousness itself. The apparent world, under this view, is reduced to pure illusion, with the hidden reality of consciousness as the only truth. This departure dismisses the interplay of zahir (the apparent) and batin (the hidden), effectively rendering appearances devoid of any reality or sacred significance.
Such a shift conflicts with the teachings of mystics Spira often quotes, like Rumi and Hafiz. For these mystics, the apparent world is not a falsehood but a reflection of the Divine Names and Attributes-a sacred unveiling of God’s reality. The clouds, in this analogy, are not mere illusions but the effects of God’s attributes of might and majesty (al-Qahhar, al-Jabbar, al-Rahman). To see them as entirely illusory is to deny the purpose and beauty of these manifestations.
This brings us to the analogy of “having the cake and eating it.” Spira employs the wisdom of these mystics, referencing their deep insights, yet shifts toward Ajatavada-a doctrine that inherently negates the very framework that these mystics operate within. Ajatavada, in essence, says there is no “cake” to begin with, but Spira continues to serve slices of that “non-existent cake” to his audience, weaving teachings dependent on the forms he dismisses.
By leaning toward total negation, Spira risks discarding the profound harmony between the hidden and the apparent-a balance central to mystical traditions. The question arises: can the apparent truly be dismissed as mere illusion, or is it an essential aspect of the One Reality expressing itself in countless forms? When the clouds are dismissed entirely, the sky of consciousness loses the depth and texture through which it knows itself. This tension within his teachings remains unresolved, leaving his audience with fragments of wisdom that seem increasingly at odds with the wholeness they seek.

Your reflection is deeply appreciated and offers a thoughtful space to explore the profound relationship between the infinite and its manifestations.
      Let’s delve into this further.
The analogy of the ocean and the iceberg offers a nuanced way to understand existence. The iceberg, while appearing as a distinct form, is made entirely of water-its essence is inseparable from the ocean. Its apparent solidity and boundaries arise due to specific conditions, such as temperature and pressure, but these conditions do not grant it independent existence. When they dissolve, so too does the iceberg’s form, returning to the ocean from which it emerged.
This understanding aligns with the Islamic mystical view (Rumi, Hafez, Baylani, etc..) that appearances-whether clouds, waves, or icebergs-are real but not as they appear. They are reflections of Divine Attributes (Asma wa Sifat), temporary veils through which the infinite reality reveals itself. The iceberg isn’t “nothing,” but neither does it possess intrinsic reality. It is a transient ripple, pointing back to the eternal ocean that is its source.
This is where Ajatavada seems to take an overly reductive stance. By negating all appearances as illusory (Nothing ever happened or even seemed to have happened), it risks dismissing their role as sacred signs pointing back to their essence. Rumi, Blake, and even Goldsmith, whose works you beautifully invoke, never called for the rejection of form. Instead, they celebrated it as a mirror through which the infinite reveals its depth.
In truth, the iceberg is a manifestation of the ocean’s infinite potential. When we see through its apparent solidity, we witness its reality: pure water, inseparable from the whole. This is not to negate the iceberg but to unveil its truth. Ajatavada, in its radical negation, might inadvertently veil this subtle insight.
Rupert’s recent shift to Ajatavada seems to take a more extreme stance, leaning toward denying the iceberg altogether, as if form is a distraction or falsehood. Yet, the mystics remind us that forms-the clouds, the icebergs, the ripples-are not obstructions but manifestations. They are reflections of the infinite’s Attributes, not illusions to be discarded.
The iceberg is not “nothing,” but neither does it possess inherent being. It is a temporary modulation of the ocean, a fleeting expression of its infinite nature. The iceberg owes its entire existence to the ocean and serves as a reminder that all appearances are dependent on their source. Its form points back to the reality that sustains it-the ocean itself (Necessary Being).

Correct. The infinite does not have to appear in the form of a localized mind in order to know itself. It knows itself simply by being itself. However, in order to experience the appearance of a finite world, it needs to create the appearance of a seemingly separate mind - in order to create a seeming point from which to observe the seeming objects from.

I do wonder about the assumption that infinite awareness would need to stand apart from itself in order to know everything, or anything, about our One unified existence. That is a limitation of finite minds. Why assume it is a limitation of infinite awareness?

You are a completely unique perspective that has been created because of the properties that come from having you, I, and everyone else exist. Our existence is, of course, impossible (the paradox). However, our creator (I simply call it God) can, of course, overcome the seeming impossible, and we are the result. Separation where there can be no separation. It is illusory and will always (for all eternity) be illusory, but we are the closest we can get to being separated without out actually being separated. There are no mistakes, but there is still learning. You are the most important thing in existence as far as I can tell, we all are. Ignorance cousin to arrogance is the only enemy we face, and it is the enemy within (our own ignorance) that we must expose with wisdom and love (LAW) God's LAW ❤️🙏RW

So the infinite doesn't have objective experience because that would limit it but it does produce an infinite number of finite minds that have a localised point of view and perceptions. Is it possible that one of those finite minds is like the Christian God that is aware of the experience of all of the other finite minds, loves them, answers prayers, creates universes or mediates the experience of beings, and either creates beings out of it's own stream of consciousness or just co-exists with them? It wouldn't be the infinite ultimate reality but it would be in touch with it like an enlightened being is and an expression of it and it would be the highest being or the higher power. That's something that may or may not be the case but I don't see why it logically can't fit into this world view.

If there is no “world” out there, only the reality and God knows only the reality, doesn’t that essentially mean that He Knows all that can be known? Therefore I don’t think it’s accurate to state that “God knows nothing about the world” because that implies there is something that God doesn’t know about.

    • @19vivianaliz43
      @19vivianaliz43 День тому +2

It’s not that he wouldn’t know about the world or the concept world itself. But rather that because there is no tangible world to know out there, he can only be it, be the knowing of it itself, of this world.
Just imagine God wanting to really get to know a blanket. Cuz it doesn’t exist, he has to first be a blanket for it to “appear”.
So is he knowing the blanket or being it?
It’s kinda like thinking of the fact that you know yourself as a human, but you have never and will never see your own face with your own two eyes without an “external reflection”. Think of it, and this is what happens to God/awareness. With nothing existing but himself, there are no “mirrors” at all, he can only be the world not know about (it).
So in human terms it would be you could say logically incorrect to say that God can know the world as we believe that it exists from this human perspective we use on a daily.
He’s essentially not knowing about concepts like for example the world, but only getting to know himself.
Hope it made sense and helped clear up the idea ❤

Thanks, your answer definitely makes sense and clears things up for me.
I was thinking maybe it’s also applicable on a human level. Maybe we can never “know” because there is nothing “to” know and it is just about “being”. Maybe knowing is just being in disguise. Thanks again, your answer is exceptionally well written, much appreciated🙏

I obviously disagree but I do think that you are partially right in the sense that God is typically found to be an idea. But all ideas are (presumably) made out of the same substance. That means the idea “God exists” has the same substance as the idea “God doesn’t exist” and it is there, on that level, that we start to get a glimpse of reality, That which we previously referred to as God.

Luke 9:58 KJV I Am is all but the perception of men is first person singular limited. If you relax your radius of awareness outward for a moment and hold there, then suddenly retract it back to the middle of your head as a tiny point, you will feel a warm tingling as your body tries to keep up with your reduction in awareness. That is what it feels like to me anyway. I did this spontaneously as Rupert was first talking about "no world out there", just I Am-ness with many "orange-filtering" minds.

The infinite can see the finite while being infinite. Infinite means anything is possible. Jesus objectively subjected himself to himself and thought, O' my God it's me. Jesus was cross eyed/I'd and didn't need spectacles to read/reed himself. Jesus did wear songlasses out of pure intent. Knowing is not the end. It is the beginning of action. We are creators but the power lies in those who know and cannot do. Jesus is both knowing and action. As you all will be.

That is not entirely true! Rupert is one of the greatest teacher but this the only part I disagree with. The absolute reality does have an objective experience and is aware of what ever is created within itself otherwise it means absolute reality is blind to the magnificent play it had created and also that it's not infinitly capable. And that is not the case. The following is an example its not the case. Our minds just like the absolute mind are made of/is consciousness, and so micro resembles the macro and if that the case then when we have a thought that rises up in our minds it is simple made of consciousness and rising in consciousness where consciousness is conscious of it and so is the same for the absolute mind. An object like the water jar appears in universe/the abosulte mind/conciseness which itself made from consciousness and the universal mind is aware of it, just like a thought is made of consciousness yet our consciousness is aware of it.
