In my opinion, Alan Watts was and is the best spiritual teacher ever: because he didn't keep you busy with spiritual discipline. He said it's right there for all to see

    • @dangerousdiscourse
      @dangerousdiscourse 2 роки тому +95

Yes, but to obtain that awareness, one must go through stages of true, discipline to a daily spiritual process, amongst other things, which is ironic bc, once you reach the plateau of those efforts, you realize it was all right there in the first place. Always has been.

Heard a small 4 mins of how life is more important with oneself in it and it saved my life and allowed me to have the strength to climb out of that hole. Around 15 years ago I discovered Alan's lectures. The only way I've ever been able to explain his impact in simplicity is that Alan Watts has made me think the most interesting thoughts I've ever had. I met an old friend of his name Gerry and her Dog Karmalita in SF area , sweetest lady. She gave my friend & I a ride while we're hitch hiking on our backpacking trip. She told us a lot about Him, the wild side, the friendly side, and everything in-between. Ever since my discovery, I truly believe I've never seen the world, my life, or energy in the same way again. I found Alan's work when I was in a dark place in life and it helped pull me out and here I am 15 years later going through something similar as the past and what decided to pop up today... a beautiful lecture from the man himself. Thank you Alan I wish I could personally thank you for your life's devotion to enlighten the world, as still to this very day your impact has grown larger than you may ever had imagined. Thank you Alan 🙏

You actually hitch-hiked fifteen years ago? It was somewhere around that time that I saw a small group hitching at an onramp, I couldn't believe it. His thinking makes so much sense, but I worry that his very honest depiction of what most people are like will make me into a fatalist--a person too afraid to change or affect society because to challenge the senseless will always fail.

"A human being is a part of the whole, called by us 'Universe,' a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest - a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty." - albert einstien

not so simple i was once fully there but recently I am becoming bitter at the corruption and governments and bad laws i try remember its all necessary like i know is true but it's as if i get lost in the moment have hateful thoughts about the evil who corrupt the innocent and then just too late i realise and go oh damn i need to stop.. Its not something that is permanent or a constant sadly and hate can unfortunately sneak back in especially in this "new normal" i need to 're centre' myself they call it.. It seems like once attained it would be easy and its easy to remember what you know is true but even though we sometimes will react still.. Its ok though you never forget the truth so you are able to re centre yourself and if my preferred sacrament was still available id be able to do that much easier so i guess its a sign to train my unassisted meditation up that would be understandable ✌❤️

I have always thought this way. Now that I’ve found Alan I use him as my voice. And spread it to everyone. I want to help the good to be their best. And to show that there are fake people. Their reality is what I call blank people. And they take your power away.

My mentor, in our Hopi Tewa culture, we are taught to listen and respect and learn as much as we can from all our elders. All elders no matter who they are really. Makes me wonder who their parents were and how their childhood was. The grand design of human beings are extraordinary and extremely sacred and very important to our people. Especially the women in our lives in our tribe and throughout the world.
MAY THE GREAT SPIRIT BE WITH YOU ALL ALWAYS

@@commenteroftruth9790 The stories are very interesting and important for everyone to learn and cherish and are passed down from generation to generation. Some of the stories are so beautiful still while others are very scary and extremely difficult and too powerful to understand and there are others that are not to be talked about. Rituals are extremely sacred and are practiced for centuries for many reasons, not only for our Hopi Tewa people but, for the entire human race and our MOTHER EARTH. Social dances ,men's and women's own separate ceremonies and also together in so many different ways. But one of the most important thing is the planting of our four primary colors of ancient Hopi corn which are White, Red. Yellow and Blue.

The first time I was exposed to Alan Watts was 1967. I am 68. Every once in a while, I find myself needing to go back to listen yet again so I can remind myself that I truly belong here, because I am living with so many that either are living only for their life after death, or are making all of our deaths more probable due to their own blind greed, or both. I wonder sometimes how many endless numbers of worlds in this universe have already died from their own collective madness.
I wonder if there ever will be a time when we can all say that we all belong here, and, still in our stupidity and our ignorance, can say that we permit everyone else to say the same as well.

I actually these days think less in terms of the given year/date - but I make up my own 'Stardate'.
So today I think of as stardate 1332024428
With '13' representing a rough count of 'aeons'
'3' a complete guess at 'epochs/eras' - & then down to the calendar system we recognise currently.
All rather arbitrary - would love to be doing it better - but I prefer this to the much more suffocating constructs such as 'Monday morning'!

I meet in this new generation mostly, overwhelmingly, young adults who think that if they understand the meaning or definition of an idea, then they've "got it". Very sad, very sad. Like myself, they may discover, too late, that life only begins there but we slowly fill in the idea with our own and unique experiences which deepen the idea, the foremost ideas such as our ego, the transiency of everything, and that society is insanity. Alan Watts gives depth to ideas so if you are listening to him you may not think you know, and if you think you know, opportunities are squandered.

It seems there's a progressive sadness that comes out in his later lectures. I wish I could have been in his circle to know what his state of mind was like just before he passed.
There's an odd familiarity, or as Alan would say, hintergedanken, way way back.
