    I'm battlepass only and am currently series 3 and 4 complete. I also hoard my caches and only open them whenever there is something in series 4 I want. There is basically no reason at all for me to ever spend money in this game outside of the monthly pass. So I'm in a good spot. But SD's business model seems built exclusively around abusing series 3 players. Seems like a good way to drive people away from the game to me.

      Just gonna share my thoughts here because I envy your position. I started playing mid April. Bought the hit monkey season pass not realizing the pieces I’d need to build around him.. got mysterio early in pool 3. Sera as my first series 3 free card. All I can play is Kitty hit sera. 60 cards to go in pool 3. Wish me luck

      Started playing in miles season I’m f2p and always considered this game to be fair and even between spenders and non spenders and that this game was viable as free to play. I couldn’t imagine starting the game now given how big pool 3 is getting. Monetisation was inevitable but this is a terrible direction. Starting now would be awful and would feel p2w

    So I started playing Snap late December, this last season I got Series 3 complete and I'm about 54% Series 4 and I've got 42% Series 5. I wouldn't say I'm a competitive player in any of these games, BUT I do feel I feel like I've sunk a lot of time into the game because I've found it quite fun - coming from just playing SWGOH that wasn't difficult! I do think the card drop changes are a step in the wrong direction but I also do not agree with some of the complaints as well. Take Dawkhawk for instance, I know there's the datamined pack but let's assume a F2P player is frustrated that Dawkhawk hasn't dropped, surely now all it does is focus you on getting it from Series 4 as we just don't know if or when it will drop to Series 3. I had the same dilemma with Jeff the other day where discussing going for Jeff vs High Evo with someone was seen as a bad move because Jeff is not 'as good' as HE, yet for me he expanded my Control arsenal and I can go for HE next. This idea that cards WILL drop reduces their value at times in the sense of 'oh wait a few months and it'll cost 3k less' so I can get SD thinking that for certain cards (and within certain metas) perhaps letting cards maintain their value isn't a bad choice. I think the issue comes from not knowing if or when cards will drop. Take me and Jeff, if I knew Jeff would be in Series 5 for only a month more, I'd likely have held back. But considering it could be several months, I just didn't see the point in waiting when the other card to go for (HE) is a big bad which we know won't drop.
    Sorry if all of these thoughts aren't tied together well. TL;DR hopefully is I think the idea SD had was good but their execution was bad enough that it will need some rectifying to appease parts of the playerbase.

      Why should they drop them say series 5 to series 4 or from Series 4 to Series 3? Because they were doing it that way for a few months? The game has only been live since October, so there are going to be changes to acquisition.

    • @mchlup
      @mchlup Рік тому

      @@YuGiOhDuelChannel Sorry but what’s your point? I do spend some money on the game, that’s besides the fucking point. The devs are halting the progress of players to obtain the cards even when they hit series 4 because those cards are being held back on purpose for everyone. Every player should be able to have access to cards after a certain time had passed, it’s only reasonable if you want the game to be successful. If you can’t understand why that’s disgusting then you need to re-evaluate your perspective of what makes games successful and the player base growing. Snap is currently doing the opposite.

    I'm happy with the current system but I swear they said in the official snap discord or in a video that they purposefully didn't want people having completed collections back in nov/dec as series 4/5 were being announced

    • @An.Unsought.Thought
      @An.Unsought.Thought Рік тому

      They did. But they made it seem like (and this was before the token shop was even announced) that due to the randomness of the Caches, nobody will have the same collections and some cards will just stay rare. This would have been fine before the token shop because it meant that, although Galactus may have been highly sought after, you probably wouldn't run into him all that much. Less than 1% of games even. Which made not having him or cards like Knull, not as bad. Because you realized most people were in the same boat. But now with the token shop, those "rare cards" are in more than half the players collections because of how highly sought after they are. But now its about either grinding every single day for a month to get a single card or forking over real money at rates higher than they should be to get it now.

    I'm fine with it... The bigger isssue IMO is the randomness in which the cards drop. The randomness limits your deck building potential and takes away from the specific decks you may want to build. Instead of getting a random card, let the player choose the appropriate series card they want; or spawn 5 series appropriate cards and let the player choose from those. Once series 3 complete, carry on as is current.

    I play Galaxy of Heroes every single day since December of 2019, I haven't spent even 1 euro on that game, because I don't want to support this monetization system, I still play it though 4 years later completely f2p, I can't be competitive, I just collect characters on my own pace that could take months of grind.
    Marvel snap on the other hand that I play for 6 months I bought the starter captain america pack and the guardians battlepass. I got the guardians battle pass because I liked the cosmetics e.t.c. I wanted to get the antman one but was disappointed in it, I'm definitely getting the spiderman one too but probably not the July one, so I spent money but only on battlepasses and only if I like the items but I very much believe this is a good system, I manage to get High evolutionary on day 1 so a new release day 1 feels great I cant have every new card on day 1 of course but the ones I want to most I can achieve that and they're only the big bads.

    Inexpensive compared to Galaxy of Heroes is a pretty low bar! Hah. I used to watch you when I played that game, and I eventually realized that spending a bit of money here and there on GoH wasn't bringing me much joy, and it wasn't even keeping me competitive. I then went FtP, and found even spending lots of time and no money I was sinking, rather than treading water.
    Right now I'm pretty much just buying battle passes, though I'm not sure I'll get this pass. I'm series 3 complete, got there then tokens were actually worth buying. That's when I spent the most, back when tokens could buy you a series 3 card. Since the change, I've only bought battle passes. I mostly like them because they are inexpensive, have 4 or so mystery variants, and a new card (which is often a bit to powerful- another problem for free to play).
    I enjoy this game a fair bit for a mobile, freemium game. Still, not sure I want to pay $100+ a year for digital cards. Sure, it's cheaper than paper CCGs, but I still have those from 20 years ago to look back on and pull out of the closet for the occasional kitchen table game with an old friend. Can the same be said of a mobile video game?
    Anyway, all that to say, a few months ago I was happy to have this mobile game be a $100-$200 annually hobby. In the past few months my faith has been shook and my spending has decreased. This has been my pattern in nearly all freemium games. Perhaps I should just swear off of them. But for now I'll keep on playing until I stop having fun, and probably not spend much more if any in the future.

    I think its a great value. It's at a very good balance from pay to win vs FTP friendly. I'm a small spender when it comes to just battle pass. Playing games like MSF and SWGoH this is peanuts compared to those games. When now a days to even UNLOCK a new character in MSF is minimum 50$ USD. I'm spending less than that a month on SNAP and getting far greater value.

  • @An.Unsought.Thought

    I am a F2P player, non-Battlepass... I earn everything. It took me 5 months to become Series 3 complete with min-maxing my gold earned into credits/missions to grow my CL as fast as possible and in turn open as many Caches as past as possible. First off... I noticed absolutely zero difference in card acquisition before and after the Token Shop. I'll tell you this, you don't realize just how fast you get Series 3 cards from the Collector's cache due to how many S3 cards there are total... but its a very steady climb to the point where I'd be waiting for the S3 card I wanted (when they dropped each month) to show up in the shop and sure enough I pulled the card from the Collectors Cache first. Literally after being S3 complete (or when you get under 10 S3 cards to go, the Token Shop is barely useful. Like to the point where I would say if you got lucky and got the S3 card from the free month thing, and you are like 9 or less S3 cards to go... you probably only saved yourself a week of waiting. If that. I remember when there were 4 cards that dropped down to S3 and I pulled each of them literally within 3 days during that first week they dropped. So anyone saying that the Token Shop helps out S3 players, it doesn't. Its an insignificant difference. Trust me I was gaining S3 cards just as fast before they added the Token Shop. Only now do I save my gold for 1200g variants and whenever I get all those Super Rare variants I really want for cards I use a lot (they can also help boost CL level which can help open more Caches), then I'll probably save for bundles that cost gold. Mind you this entirely process I'm describing as a f2p player is at least going to be a year long investment to get to a point when I can save gold for bundles and I still probably won't be S4 or 5 Complete. Granted some cards I don't think should even be in S4 or 5 because I wouldn't want to spent tokens on them anyway.
    Okay so where does the Token Shop help? Arguably the only thing it helps is obtaining Series 4 and more importantly Series 5 cards. Because unlike the S3 cards, its much less likely to pull a S4 card from a Cache... and even far less likely than that to pull a S5. I think I got lucky and pulled Agent Coulson when he was S5, and I pulled Darkhawk and Zabu since they've been in S4. Other than that, I'd have to save up tokens like crazy to be able to get S4 and specifically S5 cards at all. All of which is dependant on me opening up Caches.
    Now Second Dinner does offer bundles with tokens in them. So, what incentive does Second Dinner have to make tokens more accessible or prices lower without lowering the tokens you can earn? Literally nothing. In fact they have the incentive to make token acquisition and by extension card acquisition much more difficult to frustrate players into throwing their paychecks at these overpriced bundles if not the gold shop to artificially speed up the process. So it makes perfect sense why Second Dinner would screw with the drop schedule and decide to keep the more sought after cards in S4 and 5. It's greed. Pure and simple. I refuse to believe they aren't making enough money off their Battle Pass, Gold Shop and Cosmetic Bundles that they can't afford to just keep up with a regular drop schedule. Unless they are planning to release cards straight to S3... Which given their history will be cards that won't see much play anyway. At this point I an surprised the Battle Pass Cards don't cost like 7k tokens just because they were "limited runs" or something.

You can only pull the cards from packs and in many cases you you want pull many of the good cards they are higher rarity and harder to pull. This makes it even hard when you want to build multiple decks from the new set. They even make the crafting of the card even hard to and can takes months to get the crafting material to do. Thats not good at all! The only reason you are saying that is because the Caches are shitty and filled trash and it literally forces you to be in a position where you don't get new cards as often. There shouldn't be a token shop at all! Not unless its purely cosmetic. Here is an idea, take out all the cosmetics from the caches so that its only currency and cards, and then replace the cards from the token shop with the cosmetics that were in the caches. Take the 700 gold variants out of the gold shop since they will be for tokens, and make the super rare 1200 gold variants 1000 gold instead. Maybe then, with a reasonable drop rate, it wouldn't feel so predatory. Second Dinner makes every decision around how they can milk their p2w players dry.

If their business model is to basically charge for cosmetics and a monthly pass ... I don't even understand how they're charging enough to stay in business quite honestly. From a business perspective, they are going to have to increase the monetization, just being realistic here. You can't sell a card one month and then open it up to the free to play market the next month. I do not know what the right amount of time is, but if you're just going to make it available to everyone the next month, most people won't buy it. They must keep some things "exclusive" to the players that pay. As a "free to play" player, if you expect to have full access to what the people are paying have, then I believe you have an unreasonable expectation.

    I'm battlepass only and like 75% of series 3 complete. I don't mind the new system. I always get to infinite, I stay very competitive, I bought High Evolutionary by saving my tokens and I even sometimes buy variant packs with all my saved gold. After buying High Evo and staying with 0 tokens, now I have like 4800 and im planning to buy Spider Ham and Spidermab 2099 if possible. I can stay competitive without spending more money besides battlepasses. After playing Swgoh for years I feel Marvel Snap is very user friendly and 0 pay to win.

    Any monetization is bad monetization.
    Unless you straight-up purchase a videogame, you're getting psychologically manipulated to spend ALL of your capital by these corporations.
    Please be very careful if you're aware that you have compulsive tendencies because you are target #1 of these skinner boxes. There are plenty of beautiful non-exploitative videogames out there.

    Why are people not happy tho? Are we all just mad because they made the game harder to play free? And we are made because we can't just play their game for free? I mean seriously? Does a person who is playing this for free really have any leg to stand on to complain? I mean I would understand complaining if you spend lots of money on this game and they made it where you have to spend more, but that is not the case. They are trying to get people who play the game for free to spend a little cash or this game is dead!

    I'm happy with the current system. I'm only missing 4 cards but I'm sitting on almost 18k tokens so I could get them if I wanted them. I buy the battle pass and 1 or 2 offers a month if I think they have good value. This is 1000% better than MSF.

      I have a strong feeling this is because you're a veteran player who is already p3 complete. This changes are definitely more impactful (downright abysmal to me) to mid-range, new and f2p players forcing us to invest money just to keep up and progress at a decent rate.

      @@xNirex44 I started in October on launch day and I've been pool 3 complete since the end of February. I think there are pros and cons to completing pool 3. I can play any deck I want now and I can save tokens for cards I really want but I still think pool 3 was more fun. You get new cards every couple of days in pool 3 and I enjoyed trying to theory craft good decks around the cards I was still missing. Now I hit infinite on the 2nd or 3rd day of the new season and there isn't that much to do after that other than mess around with weird/fun decks.

    I think them holding back the popular cards isn't a problem, & I'm definitely not surprised either as they have to make money somehow! Many people make infinite with series 3 only decks & making the stronger cards less obtainable means the community isn't flooded with op cards, making the meta a bit more varied. It's the same when buying anything in real life, the better stuff is always more expensive & if you really want it, be patient & save up

    I would say this game is NOT pay to win all. Quite the opposite. I only buy the Battle Pass and I currently own every card I want. Once pool 3 complete Tokens are acquired at a decent rate and we are about to have more ways to get Tokens for free. Honestly monetization wise this game is probably better than 90% of other mobile games.

      @justinowens8005 Рік тому +2

      That is not a lot of money for a whole year. You look at other mobile games, you would spend that much in a month to try to keep up. For example Marvel Strike Force, if you want to have all the new characters at usable levels for Endgame you need to spend probably close to $300 a month. So $120 for a whole year is nothing.

      @@justinowens8005 when you say something cost nothing, that’s a matter of perspective. Although I absolutely agree with you that the cost isn’t high for the amount I spend on things, that I enjoy and entertain me, I can see where the argument is coming from. Just last year I think I spent that amount on just Pokémon go, but that was because in person events and stuff. I don’t mind spending $10 a month if I like the cards in the pass, or 3000 collector tokens to unlock a card I really want to use, I’m currently saving up for HE, I’m halfway there hopefully I’ll have him at the end of the month so I get the argument but it doesn’t affect me whatsoever
