- Marvel Snap is an amazing game but I've been spending too much money on it in order to "make content". In this video I explain why I've decided to take a step back and stop my whaling ways.

I think it would be cool if avatars were just locked behind playing a card a certain number of times and if titles were unlocked by doing something particular, like "win a game with negative power on your side". That would make the game a lot more interactive imo, plus removing them from caches would make it feel more rewarding.
This is exactly what I thought. Those things should be earned by completing some kind of achievement.

What an idea this is good like you play 100 games with a card to open avatar 200 for its variant avatar and so on its cool to play with different decks and collect variant avatar
But why make the game better then you can make the game worse and charge you players to fix it?

Look you could spend 5000 a day and get all the series 5 cards..... still struggle to get to infinite. This game is far from p2w. .......
The game is far from p2w,I haven't spent a single penny on this game and I have all series 3 cards and series 4 cards and have 1 series 5 card which is high Evo .even though I am a frequent player,it requires minimal grinding and a bit of luck to acquire most cards in the game .

Love the update you gave us. No need to stress yourself out to compete with other snap content creators. I enjoy your videos for who you are and the way you interact with other content creators, not for the power creep that games do nowadays (like 2K MyTeam) and forced many content creators to fork out hard-earned money just to get some more views. Snap Guesses have been my favorite snap videos recently, keep up the good work!

Some pretty good content creators, like FreddyBabes, also aren't collection complete. This is fine, it makes for slightly different card choices in decks, sometimes original decks and it makes it easier to relate to, as someone that also doesn't have every card. There is no harm in doing that, just make good content and the views will come.
It’s great that you made a video on this that could potentially help other people who are spending too much on anything excessive and especially mobile games. They can be very addicting people can convince themselves they’re not spending a lot but end up spending too much. This can also show people that the creators are people too and can’t afford to have every card. Keep up the great content!
The best content for me is the guess the card videos, so don't feel pressured to spend more in the game! The videos are good regardless
I feel this so much, from May of last year to end of 2022, I spent way too much and started justifying myself for playing because I was paying so much. I don't even enjoy the game anymore, I was playing because I felt like I would waste my money if I didn't keep playing. A few months ago, I finally said I can't stand the game anymore, card acquisition, balance, etc. and just accepted that I spent money and it's over with. I feel a lot better since then! Respect for being transparent about this.
Hopefully this is a wake up call for second dinner. There's nothing that kicks devs into "we gotta fix this" mode than people stopping their whaling
I completely agree with this! I love thé game but their pricing compared to other games just seems so far off
You are very much correct. Compared to other F2P titles, especially smaller games, the prices are ... ambitious, to say the least. However, I hear there are some mobile games that are way worse. I think so much of the disparity, between what players expect to pay and what everything actually costs, is because most of Marvel Snap's playerbase does not come from mobile gaming, but PC or Console.
Only a very small minority is used to paying large sums of money for a few pixels on a screen. Some do it because they have the means, some because they are a content creator. Most people however, probably don't even buy half the season passes, let alone 100 dollar bundles or cosmetics.
I'm happy for you, I just hope you don't leave the game because you are my favorite content creator and I love watching your strategy streams and gaming videos with other youtubers.

Keep the other videos coming, just you playing and talking strategy is fun (and reacting to the play). You don't need to spend money, your play videos are always great. Maybe a series of shorts, reviewing each card, one by one, for under a minute?

I have also stopped spending money on Snap apart from Battle Pass & the very occasional bundle (e.g. the Chavez bundle).
With the current acquisition system it doesn't feel worth it at all.

Thank you for this advice. I'm from Brazil and the prices are very high. Remember that The Collector variant? Here that bundles costs half a month salary. The season pass is too expensive, and I'm preparing for buy my first one, but the cosmetics really don't justify it's prices. Love your content and I'll love to see you more times competing and saying "nice *any card badly played" . Love you. We will von.✊🏾

Same with me I don't get the value of their other bundles.
The worst part about having several series 4 cards, is that you end up getting the worst ones when you finally pull one, so you are right, the odds are constantly stacked against you and always get worse!! Finally got one and it was Negasonic. Lol I have no doubt that the cards are organized by rarity and power. Instance, the likelihood of pulling Dr. doom is very low.
This is the casino model, which will empty your pockets faster than you can blink, and the house never loses.

I think it's nice when not everyone just keeps spending money without questioning and reflecting on what for. So thank you for your openness as a content creator, which in my experience is not a matter of course today. Keep it up

Makes sense. I slowed down my spending as well. Haven't seen much worth in it in all honesty. I'm just addicted to getting good splits on my cards, that's my only drive for spending on this game now.

That said I am so glad your calming down the expense of the game, you are the reason why I and I believe others watch your content. I am a medically retired vet dealing with cancer and I spend about 100-130$ per month and am only missing three cards series 5 cards… and only would want our tail slapping friend :).

Fully agree with you. After pool 3 complete and having all series 4 cards I completely lost passion for crates. The only pool5 I got was Bast on silver surfer season. Sitting on CL6000 I still don't have any big bads and it probably will stay that way for a long time
loved the video. I have basically completely stopped playing snap until they do a major overhaul with their monetization and pack openings. It has never felt good to open packs in snap (to me at least), felt like i never got something I wanted and on top of that, I can just win without even getting new stuff. The last time I played Snap I just ended up spamming a hagatha deck because I wanted to finish my rewards but didnt really want to play. That was the point I realized I wasnt having fun but just trying to FINALLY get a reward I enjoyed from the game.
Fully support this decision, hell if others content creators did the same it would be a clear message to second dinner: the game is good but there's a lot of space for improvement, time to do better.
Good for you. The way the company hides transactions definitely blinds you to the actual cost but it can be clearly seen once you take a step back

@@jeffwirth6356 it actually is for most people. The different currencies like gold etc is quite literally a psychological technique to obfuscate the amount of money you spend instead of things costing actual money.
Marvel Snap does it a teensy bit better with some of the bundles and the pass being straight money instead of gold. But it is still hiding how much you spend, like all mobile games and more and more PC and Console games now.

@@jeffwirth6356 They quite literally are hiding things. You don't seem to realise that nothing costs exactly as much gold as you can buy except the 700 gold crap variants. It is a psychological technique that all mobile games use. Otherwise they would make everything worth real money directly instead of secondary currencies. There are fucking seminars held by those companies where they brag to eachother and teach eachother how to use this and other techniques such as FOMO effectively to get more money out of players. I am not saying it is hard for ME. And people being dumb does not mean they deserve to lose everything. That is a very stupid way of seeing things.
I am also not saying the game is bad, I'm playing it everyday and am enjoying it, you don't have to defend them. They won't give you anything for it.
For that amount of money spent you could have bought every single new AAA game that's came out each month for all of your friends and family and their family and still have some money left over... and what do you get for it? Two or three Series 5 cards worth of tokens and a few cosmetics? Absolutely bonkers.
If you price it out, some of their bundles give you HALF of a Series 5 card in materials for the same price as an entire Hearthstone Expansion (containing hundreds of cards and plenty of cosmetics), it's absolutely insane. They're making absolute bank on this game (and yet they still get stingier and stingier with things like the variable series drops) it's just bonkers, absolutely bonkers.

I just got series 3 complete, and that was my primary goal, so I could try the decks I see on UA-cam. I also have 3 ultimate Variants, but I agree with you that it's way too expensive for very little reward if you are not getting cards. Don't go bankrupt for base card avatars! I am also cutting back on my spending as well.
This video is very well made and amanzingly informative. The value of this game once you are full Series 3 is just not there...
Furthermore, the decision to hold back on Series 4&5 drops is bullsh*t. They will retain good cards on Series 5 more time than they should and same for Series 4. We have already seen that with Darkhawk, Knull and now Jeff (it should drop in June and already announce it will not).
Very hard to keep up with this game when its economy is just unfair. One of the best parts of a card game is enjoying new card releases. And for Snap, it is one of the worst experiences...

I just do the season pass, it feels like a nice balance of supporting the game and getting value, without spending so much I couldn't just quite if I wanted to.

I bought the first two Season Passes for the game - partly because I bought the first one and then had £10 google credit added, which let me get the second one free - and the Welcome bundle with the Captain America Variant, but haven’t spent any more on the game, and still playing it regularly and mostly) enjoying it. There’s been a few Variant bundles that I desperately wanted, but couldn’t justify the pricing! I really wanted the Peach Momoko Mystique card, but not for 30 quid! 😢

Which is a shame, because if the system were better there would be incentive for people to spend their hard-earned money.

My condolences on unlocking Snowguard, sure its licky that you unlocked a series 5 card but the card itself is juat ao bad. Personally Ive unlocked 2 series 5 cards from caches (Im somewhere in the 8ks for my CL). The first was Bast pretty early on and more recently I unlocked Jeff which imo is one of the better series 5 unlocms you could get.
Ive also reigned in my spending though I mostly spent on cosmetics (bundles or shop variants) and very little money on progression. However some of the pricing has just gotten out of hand.
Like the Thor/Sif bundle which just gives you 2 variants and a handful of resources for 5k gold. Yeah the 2 variants are really nice but even if you price them at 1200 gold each thats still 2600 gold for a couple avatars and othwr junk. Also no that the devs have reworked new card releases, so some cards start in series 4, imo itll be easier for all players to get at least a couple of new cards each month.
It’s not hard when you have all series complete or close but when you are starting out you pretty much can’t compete without paying a bit
What I don’t understand is I currently have all series 4 except for one. It’s Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Yet, I went back and checked and the last series 4 I got, Ghost, was actually 90 reserves ago. The max you’re supposed to go between reserves and series 4 is 79, yet I’m sitting at 90 opened and haven’t got her. For now I just stopped opening them until the drop on Tuesday so I have a shot at Stegron and Snowguard also, but the numbers aren’t working for me. Also, I’ve never opened a Series 5 either.

Also, you get diminishing returns on your game as a whole. We are voting with our wallets and if we pay 100 dollars for a bundle, that is what the price is going to be. Saying it is absurd and not spend anything is the only way to change it.

I am starting to reach the same spot. I frequently buy new missions (and subsequently buying gold to do so) but the rewards from reserves just aren't feeling worth what I'm spending. Constantly getting just 100 tokens or an avatar is disappointing.

I swore to myself I’d never spend money on this game when i started playing. After i unlocked the season pass i made sure to only buy that at base price and nothing else.
There's no reward to grinding, the stuff they give you is garbage; titles, avatars, pixel variants of cards nobody plays. Now I just play off-meta decks for fun because climbing the ladder is so soul destroying and pointless.
It all about membership with marvel and few other genres which gives those with it advantage over those without it.
Ben brose is great at making a base game but he is a big corporation shark, he will maximize profit over everything, only after a big backlash he would do anything about monetization hearthstone got a lot of impromevents in the f2p department after he left, even if after a couple of years blizzard got greedy again
As a content creator I spent over $2000 on mtga and got very little back so I'm glad your cutting back on the cost I think you can make great content without being a whale

The loot system is nuts, if you dont have a lot the extra credits and gold helps a lot, but as you get close to a full collection you get nothing for spending
As a fellow content creator but for Yu-Gi-Oh, we can all understand how much these games can take out of you moneywise, I've been playing Duel Links for about just over 6 years now, and the monthy expenditure for that is around 80-107 pound ($150-200 aud), doing the math, i've roughly spent over 5,800-8,000 pounds ($11,000-$15,000 aud). As i tell my chat and other viewers, if you have the means to be spending like this and you want to, do it. But make sure to prioritise and put other things before gaming whether it's money for rent, food, for your family etc. I think if you're easing up on how much you're spending, it can be good in the long run, because now you can explore content down other avenues, for example, you could do things like "can this old deck hold up in the current meta", you're opening a door to a whole new world, keep up the great work nina!
100% agree the reward system in this game is unsatisfying. Considering my last 11 cosmetic reserves have had avatars, i swear the rates they share are fake/wrong.
If I never have to open another fucking randomized box in a video game ever again for the remainder of my natural life, it’ll still be too soon.

About $400 here 😮. Told myself I needed to get all pool 3 (when you could buy with 1k tokens) to know how to play against them better. That turned out to not matter all that much
This should be a reminder to everyone watching to maybe re-evaluate your spending, they are trying to trick people into paying for every bundle and using fear of missing out to get people to pay, its a game and it is okay that you miss some stuff its not a big deal.
Yeah, it's crazy how expensive the game is. And once you're 3 complete, the card chase is non existent, very unfulfilling. They've been losing players since March fairly steadily according to steam. So maybe some changes will come.

I remember getting a series 5 card from collectors reserve and pulling Galactus without having to spend my tokens! I was soo happy! Though I did just spend 6,000 tokens on Thanos. Lol

Yeah... I realized how much even just the daily variants I see on my home screen cost and it's ridiculous. It's a fun game and all, but there's so much crappy RNG that it kinda kills my enthusiasm for the game. They pump out pixel variants for every card it seems and have tons of unreleased variants or rare category variants that could be getting circulated. Choking those cards makes little sense to me
You are a fab UA-cam creator. I agree with your stance, the game is way over priced. I pay £10 a month and that’s enough for me.
I really like the gameplay of snap but the progression system is bizarre. New content behind a massive paywall so you have to spend a fortune to get the cards.

Slight corrections. You are right about the one Series 4 card per set of 40 reserves. The other nine card slots are either Series 3/100 tokens or have the tiny percent chance of being Series 5. Your Series 4 slot can never be taken by a Series 3 or 5.
Also it's 78 reserves max between series 4 draws. First of the first set of 40, then 39, 39 again, and last of the second set of 40
Only series 5 card i have gotten from reserves is also Snowgaurd

They really have to either lower the price of season pass and give better rewards such as including collectors token rather than some random boosters, doesn’t mean to remove the boosters completely but rather let us choose boosters for specific variants we looking to upgrade further. Just my own opinion tho , upon spending on season passes on several games snap is just not really worth the money
