      I went to do this last night but there's no metal electric connector in Port A.... Could I get just a new lil piece of copper or whatever and put it there or would I have to replace the whole part?? Any help would be appreciated.

      @Jerry Coronado Get a code tester from Amazon or EBAY that plugs into the connector. It'll operate the light. It's small and causes the light to flash.

    Hey Brian! Huge fan of the channel! Quick question.
    I'm in the process of rejuvenating my 1980 Cutlass Supreme Brougham. Almost got the engine bay complete, this isn't my daily driver so I'm removing some emissions for appearances, she'll more likely just be a show and meet car. I noticed that the charcoal canister had a vacuum line leading up to a switch and two wires. Is that just a warning light to notify when the canister needs service? Or will it affect ignition? Is there any warning switches or sensors I should remove or bypass to eliminate a potential engine light?
    Also, after watching this video I went to look for my OBD and I didn't have one. There's an ashtray in its place haha. Likely due to it being Canadian model I assume?
    Thanks!

    • @ClassicGBodyGarage
      @ClassicGBodyGarage  4 роки тому +1

      If your 80 was one built with an ECM then removing all of the emissions etc will trigger an engine light. You need to remove the computer with harness and pull the ECM fuse.

    • @btchhopperou812
      @btchhopperou812 5 років тому

      That means your cars ECM(or PCM as some also call it) is seeing no problems that it recognizes. By flashing you the #12 only, it is communicating to you that it(the ECM) is functioning as intended, but the absence of additional 'codes' other than '12' doesn't always mean that a problem(s) is not present- it just isn't causing an issue that the ECM can 'see' or detect yet(or ever in some cases. If the car is running ok, enjoy it- if not, other forms of diagnostics can be preformed by a mechanic/technician(although you should make sure the one you choose has experience in this area) doing tests the 'Old fashioned' way LOL.

    • @hankbridges5055
      @hankbridges5055 5 років тому

      The MAP sensor can be bad. Replace it. Clogged injectors can cause lean mixtures. Run fuel injector cleaner in the tank to clean injectors. Check fuel pressure. A leaking EGR can cause lean mixtures. A partially stopped up fuel filter can cause lean mixtures. A leaking carb. base gasket or intake gasket can cause lean mixtures. Mity-vac can check for leaking hoses. A leaking modulator valve hose can cause lean mixtures. Get a Actron CP9690 code tester to check codes. It works on OBDI and OBDII Ford, G.M., Chrysler, and Toyota. It has code-connect to diagnose codes. EBAY has it. It comes in a black pouch. It uses 4 AAA batteries (not included) under the rear cover. It is well-lit. 2000 up is auto-test. Below, you dial in the year etc. It checks live, record, graphing, emissions readiness test, ABS, SRS, oxygen sensor test, transmission code test, and MORE!

      The light only flashes in increments of each single digit. I explain how to read the light flashes as well. 1, 1-2 = 12 You don't add them together. The light flashes once = 1. The light flashes twice = 2 and so on. 24 would mean 1-2, 1-2-3-4 = 24

      Classic G-Body Garage Okay I just done my 1994 Camaro Z28 and when I put the paper clip in the A-B port then turn the key to on position it just blink once very fast and low and then nothing, does that mean my car isn't throwing any codes?? or could it just not work on my system? I read today that you can do it on the 1993 Camaro's with OBD1 but not the 1995's it's aggravating lol

      Is the engine light on when you drive? If not then there are no codes to pull other than the "OK" functioning code which I mention in the video. An ECM will always show they are functioning. OBDII was introduced around 95/96 so the paper clip trick won't work on that system. Make sure your car is the OBDI and not the II. The shape of the plug is different.

    • @justinw523
      @justinw523 6 років тому

      Yes the check engine light is on when driving, I read the Lt1 F-Body form and they say 1993 is the only year on the 4th Gens you can use the paper clip on 94-95 like mine you can't. It sucks lol but I can do it on others with the OBD1 port just not 94-95 F-Body's unless it's a 1993

    Oil of peppermint is a surefire way to keep rodents away, put a drop in the corners of the hood and somewhere under the rear of the car. Also attaching a zinc bar electrically to the metal of the car acts as a sacrificial anode and stops corrosion. If only GM had installed this cheap part!

      Classic G-Body Garage I have and found that there was no solid ground to my mixture control solenoid. So I'm just having issues with that. The only thing I can't find is what warning lamps should have a light bulb on my dash.

    I have a 83 cutlass v6 231 i start the car and tried to read the codes with the paperclip i even have a obd1 gm scan tool but the light stays on and no codes can be pulled i dont think the computer is communicating i made sure its plugged in no loose connections all the light does is stay on

    • @ClassicGBodyGarage
      @ClassicGBodyGarage  6 років тому

      You read the code with the key on without the car running. If it doesn't go through the series of flashes with the scanner or paper clip in place then yes there are other issues. It might be bad.

      Yours must be an early 80 model as GM didn't put OBD systems in all model year 80.

    I have an 84 c10 and can't find plug. Truck was running like normal until it died backing into parking spot. I did some tests and no spark. I am going to check ignition fuse and codes, but there is no ALDL...

    • @ClassicGBodyGarage
      @ClassicGBodyGarage  4 роки тому +1

      Your 84 may not have the OBD system. Trucks had different regulations. If you don't have spark then it might be the coil or pick up module. Check power to the distributor.

    • @johnciulla2581

      Coil tested OK I replaced cap and rotor (needed to be changed anyway) I also checked red wire and that is hot with key on.

    You right That's all you got to do ,, But what do you do when you find a code44 replace oxygen sensor That's an auto x-ray 5000 looking a box that come with and you'll find the OBD1 connector for it, then you can see what the oxygen sensor is actually doing

    Got the paper clips, and did it. Read a 15. Which means coolant temp/low temp. What does that mean?

    • @ClassicGBodyGarage
      @ClassicGBodyGarage  6 років тому

      Temp sensor might be bad. Usually located on the intake manifold up near the water neck.
