All you have to do is drive at least 200 miles and do at least 15 warm up cycles (Different from drive cycles) Then the SMOG machine will ignore any permanent codes you have in there. You cannot erase a permanent code in 2010 and newer vehicles. Only the ECU can get rid of it by detecting that the problem has been fixed. Now how long it takes to do that? No one seems to know the answer to that. Point is really you can ignore permanent codes. They are not hurting anyone being in there as long as your check engine light is off.

Thank you - it was a little rushed but I just played it again - drive cycles is not common knowledge at least for me. The smog check tech won't offer the simple just drive it for a while thing that a mechanic does - it's frustrating and ends up costing $$$ while I think something is badly wrong with the car. It is kinda sleazy especially in California that the cars computer does these test / drive cycles which have specific range of aspects that must be met in order to pass a smog check... meaning that you will get charged for a test that isn't what a smog check use to be but something a scanner will provide as far as if it's a pass or not - before going for the test so you just know it will pass... otherwise it's pay again and again for the problem... it's actually crazy!

Small evap leak not fuel cap not purge valve… it seems like it was only when you fill the tank completely, but now it’s showing check gas cap off and on and eventually check engine light. A drive cycle is just a certain way to drive your vehicle that enables it to run it's tests. It's slightly different for every vehicle but most of the time just standard street and freeway driving is enough to perform the tests. Some cars you have to get really specific and try to do it exactly as the drive cycle wants. So really just depends on the car you have.

@@sachskailg2784 - AH OK I thought you said your check engine light was on again after you did the repairs and cleared the codes? Do you have to pass a CA smog?
Permanent DTC's are special codes used so you can't fake a passing emissions test. They don't want you clearing all your DTC's right before you pull in to get the car inspected. With normal DTC's that are not hard faults, you clear the codes and wait for them to come back. Permanent codes are the opposite. You clear the codes and wait for them to go away. They give the PCM enough time to determine if the problem was really fixed, or if you just did a reset. People sometimes get confused because permanent DTC's are not really permanent.
@@AT-wl9yq - Yea Permanent is a bad name for them. Wish they came up with something else. The "We gonna hang around a while to make sure you fixed your junk" codes.
Would have to ask HP tuners on that. If HP tuners strategy to eliminate that code is to not allow the monitor for that code to run then yea it may never clear. Fora PDTC to clear it wants to see the same conditions present when the code set 3-40 times with no error. Or it wants to see the Drive cycle conditions met for that monitored system 3-40 times with no error. If HP tuners gets in the way of that then yea it will be there forever. Do you have to pass an emission test? What state?
Dude you went thru that in seconds…. Clicking and scrolling? Slow down a few seconds and stop talking 100 miles an hour….. I had to get a notepad and rewind every 2 seconds….
That information is wrong. A driving cycle means that the car cooled down to at least 120f and warmed up to at least 170f. Other than that it won't count as a driving cycle, at least on Toyotas 2010+. You could manage to have a water hose blasting cool water on your plugged temperature sensor(no need to remove from the car) to trick the computer that driving cycle happened 😊
What you describe is commonly called a "Warm Up Cycle" a "Drive cycle" is something different. A drive Cycle is a specific way to drive a car to complete the monitor tests. It may actually perform a Warm up cycle while you are doing a drive cycle but generally a warm up cycle does not need any specific driving pattern, in fact you can do it just idling in your driveway.

If you tune a code out with hp tuner will the perm code eventually go away? p0449
@@stevew9563👍u got it
You don't seem to have a whole lot of knowledge about what you're talking
You didn’t help
My car has a permanent code but it won't start so now what do I do I fixed the part but still won't start
What was the part you replaced? And is it a no start or a no crank?
@@stevew9563 Same issue, replaced throttle body, cranks, but no start
This is how to scam the buyers.
