Superman definitely WOULD vote for Trump, at least if we're talking about the original incarnation. I mean, for all intents and purposes he was a typical mid-20th century red-blooded American man. If anything, Trump would be too progressive for his tastes. Trump is like a 1990s Democrat.

I find it funny how Homelander and later Soldier Boy became popular despite the writers best attempts to make you hate them. It’s like what happened in Watchmen where Rorschach became everyones favourite which Allen Moore is still salty about to this day.
Alan Moore writes a realistic conservative driven by truth, and justice, with a back story that makes his bigotry somewhat sympathetic and then goes on to pee himself and whine about how people don't sympathize with the genocidal freak larper characters bent on distorting the truth to benefit the elite and the "greater good".

@kaptime Well Ryan IS his wife's son, because she was r*ped by basically Superman. That's not a cuck thing, Ryan's existence is a huge part of Butcher's story. I feel like people love things until some UA-camr makes a well-scripted funny video mocking it, then they suddenly hate it.

Imagine you're a writer for The Boys, where the main villain Homelander is tailor-made to be a mirror image of a Rich, White, Anglo-Saxon, Protestant Man Baby, but with Superpowers. However, to much surprise and dismay, he becomes the most popular character of the whole show, beating out your Cadre of cynical, BIPOC, Punisher Clones in terms of recognition and praise. Why? In the comic, Homelander was a good guy that was pushed to being evil by guys like Butcher. By the end he was like "Fine, if you want me to be evil, I'll be evil. Is that what you wanted?" The plane crash in the comics wasn't him walking off and deciding to let them all die, he tried his best to save them but nothing worked and he just made things much worse.
@@ashblossomandjoyoussprung.9917 Yeah i guess, definitely a product of his envionment, especially since his view of a hero was terrible people like soldier
Homelander in the comic was basically a man child in the most literal sense. He was born too strong, and not instilled the values so that he could be a good person. Vaught was too busy getting their product ready. And when they realized they couldn't really punish homelander for his bad actions because he was too strong to be damaged. So he just... goes on. He looks at his public image and tries to live up to it, but he wasn't taught to do that, only to posture as a hero. Homelander is inherently a tragic character. A superman that isn't evil for evils sake, but a superman that had no one around him. And because he had no one to really scold him for his bad behavior, he just rampantly became worse and worse, and got egged on and on by butcher until he lost it.
Homelander was never a fucking good guy. Do you people actually read the shit you write about? Genuinely? Homelander SA's Starlight and wants it covered it. Goes completely insane because of Black Noir, and then decides to try and take over the world. Like seriously he's never portrayed as a good person, like ever.
The most frustrating part of the show is that it's like 85% of the way to being a fucking amazing satire of the exact people who are making it, but that last 15% is entirely composed of hard evidence that they are *not* trying to satirize themselves and actually think the shit they're putting onscreen should be taken seriously. In another world, Stormfront is an incredibly well-written character that cuts deeply into political trend-chasers and exposes just how artificial the entire surface level left-right dichotomy is in America. In this world, she is "bad nazi who pretend vote biden but ackshually vote drump and is raycis". God I'm reliving the disappointment just typing this.

this viewpoint is what made the show compelling to me. It never mattered to me at all how the writers wanted people to perceive the show, only how I did. @@anomie1998It’s a real common pattern I notice with these types of shows. Once they get noticed by the creative void when they get popular, it all goes downhill fast. I really liked the first season, specifically the entire Translucent plotline. I was so excited for a show like that: underdogs using cleverness and planning to take down supers. But I ended up checking out by season 2. I remember the exact moment: When Homelander just deafens Blindspot, that blind superhero trying out for the seven. Not only was it super obvious, but it felt like such a departure from season 1. Whenever Homelander did something awful, it felt like he had to be somewhat sneaky about it, or it had to be in a scenario where there was no chance of a witness saying anything. But in this moment, he basically just ends this poor dude's career and life out in the open. And it's just treated as a gag, there's never any consequences for what happened to this guy. In order for Homelander to get away with this, they'd have to create an alibi, they'd have to actually finish blindspot, as he's wailing and screaming in pain, they'd have to get a team to clean up and transport his body, they'd have to get rid of it, all with however many witnesses within Vaught itself. It was apparent right there, that they just started to give Homelander PR plot armor so he could just commit awful acts right out in the open. I don't think anyone even calls him out for doing it. There's no sense of danger after that, when Homelander starts to arbitrarily get away with doing some things like that, and there's no consequences. You can just tell he'll get away with these things, until the plot says he can't. The show just becomes "Oh, look at Homelander isn't he evil?" And despite how much screentime they dedicate to him, he doesn't even grow as a character. He's always just this horribly messed up human being, he's just a static unchanging monster and it's boring as sin to watch once the initial shock wears off. There should be tension, but instead it's just uncomfortable.

Usually shows fall off during the end of the series. The Boys fell off halfway through the first season and has just been on a continuous fall ever since.
The only good thing from season 3 was Soldier Boy, they wanted to antagonize him so bad despite being more logical and reasonable than them, like they couldn't just wait for the guy to kill off Homelander before they tried to stop him (context: He was planning on killing both Homelander and Ryan but the boys stopped him from doing that because "hur dur evil child killer!!")
The Comic is really good, but I stopped watching the Show after a couple of episodes. Bunjeee asked why it did become so bad, that's easy, the further they went the more they changed the story from the original and so it became unbelievable stupid and shite. It's basically about people having to much power and getting corrupted by it, the racism part is stupid as hell, because if those Super Heroes chose Homelander as their leader they are for Supremacy of Super Heroes, the Comic touches that. ennis is basically a shitlord when it comes to writing superhero comics and whatnot. It's only when he gets onto punisher that he gets serious. and for some reason, thor. his max run on thor is incredibly good.
I'm honestly glad I'm not the only one who thought the comic was much better than the show has been. Because the worst thing this series does is be "safe edgy" from season 2 onwards where as the comic, well, is kinda just a typical Garth Ennis comic.
They're going to have another character inherit the mantle of Black Noir. TBH, I am interested in the story arc, because I am writing a story where something similar happens, where a main character just gets cut down in a shocking moment out of nowhere. It's very interesting to see what works, and what doesn't work about that plotline, so I can try to make it work in the thing I'm writing. Right now, I don't think it's an inherently bad idea, but there's got to be a point to it, and even if you do it out of nowhere, in hindsight it still has to feel climactic and fitting. I think that Black Noir's actor wanted off the show. Which is SUPER weird, because he's mute and they never show his face, he's like the one person you could get away entirely with recasting.
I read the comic years ago and when I heard it was going to be a show I was blown away. The amount of *** crimes on children is flabbergasting. There isnt a chapter that doesnt have something horrifying happen to kids

I feel like Alan Moore wanted Rorschach to be an anti-hero & then changed his mind after writing the fucking thing & decided "erm actually he's a villain..."
I think it’s because they are simply more interesting and entertaining to watch. Whenever homelander is on screen I know he is going to tear someone down or enact some psycho plam or put the fear of god into someone etc…

"What if superheroes were bad as a part of a propaganda scheme by some corporation?"
"Superheroes are pretty gay anyway"
"What if we used critical theory to turn superheroes into villains, but because we cant write, the surrounding characters are hollower than the villains because of lazy self-insertion"

Real
The Comic might not be perfect. But at least they're more honest about what it is.
The comic is very neutral about the ideology behind it, it's legitimately subtle and well written for the most part, the violence is at the same level of the show but it does offer shock value when it is important instead of just ha ha funny gore
The comic also sucks honey badger testicles
@@caruizalfaroyeah there are a lot of times in the show when i see violence or gore like the tiny man regrowing to regular size in someone’s johnson and that guy explodes into a million pieces and I’m just thinking how does that even happen that’s just stupid vs the comics where someone dies and I’m looking at that page like i got ptsd flashbacks, the show just felt like all it’s comedy was half “oh look he likes trump and he likes the man with the tiny mustache and he’s a ignorant redneck racist” and the other half of the comedy was just edgy violence or edgy sex jokes spin off show is filled with hazbin hotel humor

Reddit told me that The Boys is good and deep and smart so now I must day that the Boys is good and deep and smart.
The drop in writing quality between Season 1 and Season 2 of The Boys was insane, this show has been on a downward spiral ever since they started to unironically do what they were meant to be satirizing.
It doesn't help that they lost George Mastras after S1, who was a key writer on Breaking Bad.
That explains a lot actually
@@anomie1998It’s a real common pattern I notice with these types of shows. Once they get noticed by the creative void when they get popular, it all goes downhill fast.
Remember when Westworld was brand new in its’ first season and people were showering praise for it? Remember when RWBY was that nice little series from Month’s imagination that had an interesting world back in the early years and you could watch it for free on UA-cam?
It might be nothing and very well might be but since the mid-2010’s, a show more often than not starts off hot and then it loses sight of itself as it goes on until it becomes the equivalent of meeting the popular chick years after high school where she’s on dope. There are newer shows that don’t suffer from this effect but I wouldn’t know too many since I never believed in the proclamation of “We’re living in a TV Golden Age” that was being pushed out a few years back and not many shows nowadays could get me to go “I need to see this” probably because the ones I’d care for gets cancelled like My Name Is Earl.
Hughie had a very understandble reason for wanting to use Temp V. Even if some of his loved ones like Starlight can fend for themselves, they won't always be around when HE is facing down a supe (as seen when he stupidly followed the head exploding bitch into that alleyway and barely got out without being noticed). Furthermore, it's better to have more manpower that can go toe-to-toe with supes and not be useless dead weight fodder that can be killed at a moment's notice.
This is not a fragile masculinity thing. This is a matter of survival that goes beyond gendered bullshit.
But the writers treated it like Hughie was just jealous of his gf the whole time despite clearly showing us that he had very, very valid reasons for choosing the path he chose.
Agreed. He literally asks Butcher and MM if they would rather have “weak pathetic Hughie” or a Hughie that can take care of himself. He’s going through some insecurities for sure and temp V is killing him, but making it seem like it was about Annie the whole time was dumb as hell.

People who say the series is superior to the comics because of a dumb UA-cam essay are the same people who say "i always had bad vibes about him" on an expose video about a UA-camr (they just recently discovered the dude on the video).
Both are garbage anyway dude
It is better than the comics; the comics are just bad at least the show doesn't blue ball you every fight scene.

Season 1 was decent but season 2 fell off pretty hard. I didn't even bother with season 3.
Yep, s2 was a bellyflop, I stopped part way thru season 3. It's disgusting trash, you made the right choice.
Thank you for diving into this show, Bunjeee. The Boys is fucking obnoxious and the near unanimous praise it's gotten is insane to me.
So the 'race' is Super Heroes, not being black over being Super Heroes. To not get that as a writer is just embarrassing.
its the same reason people praise broken unfinished games, because it agrees with their political leanings and they see it as a propaganda piece.
I was never really for or against The Boys because like a lot of streaming originals, you’re not going to remember them some time later as well as shows like Breaking Bad, The Twilight Zone (Original) and Cowboy Bebop. I never got the hype for it and it never appealed to me.

finally someone saying it. Hated season 1, the twist ending infuriated me, and the only thing that my friend who recommended it would say is "Yea but wasn't it crazy and fucked up???"
Out of curiosity, why did it infuriate you? would you have prefered homelander and butcher have the cliche "you killed my loved one, now I'm going to kill you" dynamic? Personally, I believe the fact they were both in the dark about the truth adds a whole new layer of depth to their relationship and makes it far more complex than it otherwise would've been. just look at the comics for reference: its terrible.
They're doing their best with the source material honestly. I feel like if you hate the show, then you'd despise the comics, because the show had to basically just get rid of everything besides the characters and the bare bones premise of the show in order it to actually be presentable.

Black noir is 100% still alive, season 4 he's gonna come out of nowhere and save the day. These writers dont know what to do if a main character dies
