It was mentioned super briefly at the end of talking about the Hellcannon, but it's very much a frontline Stone Thrower. While it does 1 less wound than a normal Stone Thrower, D3 wounds vs D3+1 from a normal Stone Thrower really isn't that big of a difference and it makes the opponent have to consider what to do about it. Plus normal stone throwers (At least the Grudge Thrower) says "The Multiple Wounds (D3+1) special rule applies only to a single model whose base lies underneath the central hole of the blast template" while the Hellcannon simply has D3 wounds with no stipulations that I could find unless it's hidden elsewhere. It's also a Large Target which means it can draw LoS over units giving it a much larger threat range. T6 and Armor 4, and Regen 6 is unlikely to die from normal shooting. Only other artillery it likely to actually kill it, though 5 Wounds is a lot to chew through. It's Misfire Table also has a 33% chance to actually be somewhat of a boon, as 3d6 random movement gives it an average of 10-11 inch movement that the opponent can't react to, and it is no slouch in combat. I don't think the Hellcannon is a must take, tournament winning unit but I think compared to other Stone Throwers it has a significant number of advantages that makes it worth looking at.
Having to take a Leadership test or move (and be unable to fire) is a pretty big downside even at Ld 9, and then it's cost of more than double a regular stone thrower, make it more of a fun choice than a competitive one for me. Your points aren't wrong, and it's not as though you're taking it over other artillery in a WoC army. There's something to be said for long range in an army that totally lacks it. I just wish it were a bit cheaper.
@The_Winslow The price definitely hurts it. 215 is a pretty hefty price tag for something that can potentially do nothing the entire game, especially since it has two chances to "Misfire" by either failing the check or rolling an actual Misfire. I would for sure like to see it's point cost come down slightly.
@@oldworldfanatics I have a quick question. How do mercenary slots actually work?? Can for example Chaos Daemons be fielded as such in the Chaos Warriors list???

Great video, love both your channels! When you talked about the demon prince you said he could join a unit of choas spawn, but doesn't the warp spawned special rule prevent this? I haven't found any units besides the Prince in the army roster that has it. Would love to be proven wrong, i wanted to try and add him to a unit to help survivability.

What about Enchanting Aura BSB in a unit of Chosen Warriors with Banner of Rage? You may get baited but you'll hit anything first so they'll have to think twice about engaging. Also you can screen with your own chaff and use Daemonology to throw the unit up the table as quickly as possible for some fun
Eh I don't think infantry deathstars really work. They're slow even with magic help and the problem isn't them losing the fights they get baited into, it's that your opponent just feeds them cheap trash.
31:00 Wait. It has the same mark as its rider. Those that mean it gets frenzy? And more importantly does it get MR 1 for tzeentch, which may or may not stack? I dont have the rules but Im guessing it wont stack. Or?
No, it's a faction review of the Warriors of Chaos book as it stands. The new AJ doesn't invalidate this and we wanted to get this out before the AJ so we can do a new one later
it's really too bad that dragons were designed in such a boring way. High WS, T,S, attacks, Stomps. high output, high mobility, high tankiness with the current rules. It's just boring design. I love design like wild rider or the Carnosaur where units have a specific goal, rather than just being good at everything.
Thanks for having me!
They say you're never more than 6ft away from a rat, and never more than 3 linked ToW videos away from an Ed!
28:30 the best magic missile in the game, I believe, is on the bastilladon with the Solar Engine. 3D3 S5 AP-2 with 24 inch range.
Might be a bit nitpicky, the issue is it's a 9+ cast at power level 2.
I have however written a 3 Bastilladon/3 Ancient Steg list I'd love to play 👀
@@CloseOrder 2 engines of the gods in that?

Great guest thanks heaps
I don’t like having dragons in 2000 point games. So if I play chaos, it will definitely be a Lord on the chariot still seems very strong.
Great discussion. I agree Daemon Princes should have 5 Wounds, no extra cost.
Great collaboration!
chaos steeds have counter charge, it was in one of the faqs. so chariots with chaos steeds and characters on chaos steeds have counter charge
I think it was just the character mount as the faq is specific that it's to page 59 not the chariot as well

Something to note about the Daemonic mount is that if your marked undivided, I believe you can join a unit of dragon ogors.
As far as I’m aware a character with any mark can join them as long as they’re on a daemonic mount. Dragon ogres don’t have a mark so can be joined.
